• [wxWidgets] How to store wxImage into database, using C++?

  I have some wxImages and I would like to store them into a BLOB (Binary Large OBject) field in a MySQL database. There are no methods in wxImage nor wxBitmap for obtaining the binary data as an array of unsigned char so I can load into the database. My current workaround is to write the image to a temporary file, then load the BLOB field directly from the file. Is there a more efficient method to load and store a wxImage object into a MySQL BLOB field? I am using MySql C++ connector 1.05, MS Visual Studio 2008, wxWidgets and C++.

• DataNucleus Enhancer flakey?

  I'm creating a GWT app in Google App Engine, and using Google data store. Does anybody else have the problem of the DataNucleus being flakey as all get out? I can save a class, and DataNucleus will do it's thing just fine. If I change ANYTHING in the class (even adding whitespace) and then save, I get the following error: DataNucleus Enhancer completed with success for 0 classes. Timings : input=37 ms, enhance=0 ms, total=37 ms. Consult the log for full details DataNucleus Enhancer completed and no classes were enhanced. Consult the log for full details Once I clean my project, DataNucleus is happy again. Is this common when using eclipse? Is there a workaround?

• Access a content control in C# when using Master Pages

  Good day everyone, I am building a page in ASP.NET, and using Master Pages in the process. I have a Content Place Holder name "cphBody" in my Master Page, which will contain the body of each Page for which that Master Page is the Master Page. In the ASP.NET Web page, I have a Content tag (referencing "cphBody") which also contains some controls (buttons, Infragistics controls, etc.), and I want to access these controls in the CodeBehind file. However, I can't do that directly (this.myControl ...), since they are nested in the Content tag. I found a workaround with the FindControl method. ContentPlaceHolder contentPlaceHolder = (ContentPlaceHolder) Master.FindControl("cphBody"); ControlType myControl = (ControlType) contentPlaceHolder.FindControl("ControlName"); That works just fine. However, I am suspecting that it's not a very good design. Do you guys know a more elegant way to do so? Thank you! Guillaume Gervais.

• Unreachable code detected by using const variables

Is there a good way to have just one variable being constant, deriving the other from it, but not resulting in an unreachable code warning? Note that I need both values, on start of the camera it needs to be configured to the proper Pixel Format, and my image understanding code needs to know how many bits the image is in. So, is there a good workaround, or do I just live with this warning?

  I'm trying to construct a dictionary that contains a series of sets: {Field1:{Value1, Value2, Value3}, Field2{Value4}} The trouble is, I then wish to delete any fields from the dictionary that only have one value in the set. I have been writing code like this: for field in FieldSet: if len(FieldSet[field]) == 1: del(FieldSet[field]) But receive the error "RuntimeError: dictionary changed size during execution". (Not surprising, since that's what I'm doing.) It's not the be-all and end-all if I have to knock together some sort of workaround, but is it possible to do this?

• GAE/J: unable to register a custom ELResolver

  I need to register a custom ELResolver for a Google App Engine project. Since it must be registered before any request is received, as specified by the Javadoc: It is illegal to register an ELResolver after the application has received any request from the client. If an attempt is made to register an ELResolver after that time, an IllegalStateException is thrown. I'm using a ServletContextListener: public class RegisterCustomELResolver implements ServletContextListener { @Override public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sce) { ServletContext context = sce.getServletContext(); JspApplicationContext jspContext = JspFactory.getDefaultFactory().getJspApplicationContext(context); jspContext.addELResolver(new MyELResolver()); } ... } The problem is that JspFactory.getDefaultFactory() returns always null. I've alreay filled a bug report. Any idea for a workaround?

• List service and services status under Win-7

  I have a service monitor app that monitors the status of three other servers app - you know those kind of green, red status stuff, start, stop, etc. The problem is that it shows the wrong state in Windows 7 even if the user is the administrator. The start, stop buttons are disabled and the install button enabled, the status color is grey which is also wrong. The start button should be enabled with the service status showing green - the apps are running. If the application is run with the setting "run as administrator" then it behaves normally. The application is written in Delphi 7 and works perfectly in other versions of Windows. This line of code: OpenSCManager(PChar(sMachine),Nil,SC_MANAGER_ALL_ACCESS) always return 0 under Win7, causing the problem. Any ideas and if possible, any workaround apart from "run as administrator". Regards Ronaldo

• GCJ Creates duplicate dummy symbol

  Hi, I'm trying to build a java application with gcj but getting the error below. multiple definition of `java resource .dummy' gcj versions are 4.4.1 on Ubuntu and 4.3.4 on cygwin/windows XP and I'm building it with gcj --main=my.MainClass --classpath=my my/*java Anyone seen this or know a workaround without installing an earlier version of gcj. If that is the way to do it does anyone know how to do that on cygwin or will I have to build it? • spl_object_hash for PHP < 5.2 (unique ID for object instances)

  I'm trying to get unique IDs for object instances in PHP 5+. The function, spl_object_hash() is available from PHP 5.2 but I'm wondering if there's a workaround for older versions. There are a couple of functions in the comments on php.net but they're not working for me. • cmake: Target-specific preprocessor definitions for CUDA targets seems not to work

  I'm using cmake 2.8.1 on Mac OSX 10.6 with CUDA 3.0. So I added a CUDA target which needs BLOCK_SIZE set to some number in order to compile. cuda_add_executable(SimpleTestsCUDA SimpleTests.cu BlockMatrix.cpp Matrix.cpp ) set_target_properties(SimpleTestsCUDA PROPERTIES COMPILE_FLAGS -DBLOCK_SIZE=3) When running make VERBOSE=1 I noticed that nvcc is invoked w/o -DBLOCK_SIZE=3, which results in an error, because BLOCK_SIZE is used in the code, but defined nowhere. Now I used the same definition for a CPU target (using add_executable(...)) and there it worked. So now the questions: How do I figure out what cmake does with the set_target_properties line if it points to a CUDA target? Googling around didn't help so far and a workaround would be cool..

• How can I work around the fact that in C++, sin(3.14159265) is not 0?

  In C++, const double Pi = 3.14159265; cout << sin(Pi); // displays: 3.58979e-009 it SHOULD display the number zero I understand this is because Pi is being approximated, but is there any way I can have a value of Pi hardcoded into my program that will return 0 for sin(Pi)? (a different constant maybe?) In case you're wondering what I'm trying to do: I'm converting polar to rectangular, and while there are some printf() tricks I can do to print it as "0.00", it still doesn't consistently return decent values (in some cases I get "-0.00") The lines that require sin and cosine are: x = r*sin(theta); y = r*cos(theta); BTW: My Rectangular - Polar is working fine... it's just the Polar - Rectangular Thanks! edit: I'm looking for a workaround so that I can print sin(some multiple of Pi) as a nice round number to the console (ideally without a thousand if-statements)

• Any experience on Sitecore CMS using Windows Sharepoint Services?

  Hi guys, I plan to develop a solution based on Sitecore CMS which would allow the client company to manage their documents in a Sharepoint-fashion (versioning, diffs??). Of course, we're after limiting the number of licences required for the project, and the client doesn't yet have licences for MOSS, so we couldn't simply use the Sitecore Sharepoint Connector which from everything I read requires the MOSS installation, and won't work with bare WSS. From what I know Sitecore CMS doesn't version documents as such, but is there a possibility for a workaround? Ideally we'd work with Documents and Files in the same fashion as with normal pages, which enables DIFFs and stuff. Any ideas? Thanks, Marcin B

• iOS localization inconsistency

  I'm localizing an iPhone app for the first time. I've put all my strings into a Localizable.strings file, accessing them via NSLocalizedString from within my code. Works fine. Next, I have a file called info.html that contains the flesh of a UIWebView that I use as an About box. I've put it in the language folders (en.lproj and de.lproj), and added them to my Resources in Xcode. Now, in Simulator, both the Strings, and the html file display in the appropriate language. However, on the device, the Strings appear localized while the html file remains untranslated. This is a strange inconsistency between Simulator and Device! Anybody know of a workaround? (...other than defying the localization system, and using NSLocalizedString to call de_info.html, en_info.html etc. by hand.)

If I cut (dd) and paste (P) a folded subroutine outside the module/end module block, the freshly pasted fold stay closed. If I paste it inside the module/end module block, the newly pasted folded region appears instead unfolded. Can you reproduce the issue (vim 7.2 here) and do you know any workaround/fix ?

• How do I handle a JSON request returning a String in JQuery?

  Hi all, New to json/jQuery so sorry if this has an obvious answer. I'm doing an ajax request in jQuery that's something like: $.ajax({ url: theURL, dataType: 'jsonp', type: 'get', success: function(data) { alert("it's there"); } }); The request asks whether a given object is in a database. If it is, it returns something of the format: { "text": "duck", "canonical_name": "duck", "language": { "id": "en" }} However, if the object isn't there, it returns: Not Found As in...literally that exact string, not in any kind of json format as far as I know. Is there any way I can get my ajax to detect this? Right now it doesn't even seem to be acknowledging that it got anything back in the latter case. The json code wasn't written by me. It can possibly be fixed if this is not the correct format and there's absolutely nothing I can do from my end to work with this, but I'd really like to try to find some kind of workaround if possible.   I have a query of the form SELECT uid1,uid2 FROM friend WHERE uid1 IN (SELECT uid2 FROM friend WHERE uid1='.$user_id.') and uid2 IN (SELECT uid2 FROM friend WHERE uid1='.$user_id.') The problem now is that the nested query SELECT uid2 FROM friend WHERE uid1='.$user_id.' returns a very large number of ids(approx. 5000). The table structure of the friend table is uid1(int), uid2(int). This table is used to determine whether two users are linked together as friends. Any workaround? Can I write the query in a different way? Or is there some other way to solve this issue. I'm sure I am not the first person to face such a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Group by/count in LINQ against SQL Compact 3.5 SP2

  Hello, I am using LINQ-To-Entities in C# and run queries against a SQL Compact Server 3.5 SP2. What I try to achieve is a simple group by with an additional where clause which includes a Count(). var baseIdent="expression"; var found=from o in ObservedElements where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent==baseIdent group o by o.ID into grouped where grouped.Count()==1 select new {key=grouped.Key, val=grouped}; foreach(var res in found){ //do something here } This query throws the famous exception "A parameter is not allowed in this location. Ensure that the '@' sign and all other parameters are in a valid location in the SQL statement." When I either omit the where clause OR directly enter the expression "expression" in the query (where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent=="expression") everything just works fine. Does anybody know how to solve this? Workaround would also be fine? Thanks in advance, Sebastian

• Reformat a YouTube URL using jQuery

  I am using the YouTube Channel jQuery script to pull in data from a YouTube channel. Then I'm using an iFrame on the page to display the videos without leaving the site. The only problem is that the URLs the Channel plugin is pulling in don't quite work with my iFrame concept. They load the whole YouTube page instead of just the video. I figured out a workaround that basically I reformat the URL and tell it to display fullscreen and to autoplay will do what I would like it to do. The URLs are currently formatted like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxx&feature=youtube_gdata and I need them to be rewritten as http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxxx?fs=1&autoplay=1 I've seen a couple of similar topics here on SO, but given my limited jQuery and regex talents I wasn't able to get anything to work for my purposes.

In WPF implementation of RelayCommand or DelegateCommand classes there is a such eventhandler /// <summary> /// Occurs whenever the state of the application changes such that the result of a call to <see cref="CanExecute"/> may return a different value. /// </summary> public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged { add { CommandManager.RequerySuggested += value; } remove { CommandManager.RequerySuggested -= value; } } but in SL subset of namespaces there are no CommandManager class. And this is where I'm stuck. I haven't yet found an workaround for this in MVVM adoptation for SL (PRISM is so complex for me yet). Different simple HelloWorldMVVM apps don't deal with at all.   Hello, I'm writing a MIDlet using the Kuix UI toolkit, and I want to make changes to the toolkit depending on whether the current device is a touch screen device. (These changes include making buttons bigger, for easier tapping.) Is there a way to detect whether the device has a touch screen using J2ME (MIDP 2)? [edit] as a (crappy) workaround I check for the screen height instead. A screen width a height of higher than 240 is likely a touch screen... Please let me know if there are any more effective ways.

• How to render the properties of the view model's base class first when using ViewData.ModelMetadata.

  When I use the ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties in order to loop the properties (with an additional Where(modelMetadata => modelMetadata.ShowForEdit && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(modelMetadata))), and thereby create a generic edit view, the properties of the view model's base class are rendered last. Is it possible to use a clever OrderBy() or is there another way to first get the properties of the base class, and then the sub class'? Reverse won't do the trick since the ordering of each class' properties is perfectly fine. A workaround would of course be composition + delegation, but since we don't have mixins, it's too un-DRY IMHO, why I seek a better solution if possible.

• How can I set the minDate/maxDate for jQueryUI Datepicker using a string?

  jQueryUI Datepicker documentation states that the minDate option can be set using "a string in the current dateFormat". So I've tried the following to initialize datepickers: $("input.date").datepicker({ minDate: "01/01/2010", maxDate: "12/31/2010" }); However, this results in my datepicker having a selectable date range that goes from 11/06/2015 to 12/17/2015. I've checked the current dateformat and its mm/dd/yy, which is supposed to mean 2 digits for the month, 2 for the day, and 4 for the year, separated by slashes. I've also tried including dateFormat: "mm/dd/yy" in the inizialization statement. I've also checked the values for minDate and maxDate afterwards and they ARE being set to the values I want: 01/01/2010 and 12/31/2010. I want to be able to set min/maxDate with strings because I'm being passed these values as strings from somewhere else. Maybe someone knows why this happens and how to solve this, or a workaround to achieve this, perphaps changing the format of the date strings or something?
