  I want to give my notebook to guests of my little Hotel as an extra service. I love the Ubuntu guest-account and I think that this is the best possible way to help my guests get free internet-access. I found out how to "design" their user-accounts with /etc/skel, but unfortunately I have no clue, how to show them a small introduction to the system and a kind of user-agreement "contract" when they login. I read of xmessage, but this is too minimalistic. I'd like to implement some pictures. Does anyone have any idea of how to make this possible? Would it be possible that the user is logged out automatically if he rejects the user-agreement? Thank you so much in advance, Steve.

  Alright so I've had Linux Ubuntu 12.04 for over a year now and I still don't know anything about it. That only thing I can do with it is use the internet. I want to start streaming games that I play on my computer to Twitch.tv., but I don't know how. All of the downloads are only for windows. I found a website that tells you how to do it, but since I know nothing about linux, I can't do it. I haven't been able to get past the first step yet. Can someone please give me a step by step tutorial on how to do it. Please do not think you are being to specific, because I am sure it will help me. • Rails Launcy - open Chromium

  I'm developing in rails on my computer. I'm just going along with what tutorials say, and I simply cannot find anything about how to use launchy during development on the Internet .. period. There are two problems: I'd like launchy to open Chromium (it opens Firefox). Chromium is set as my default browser. I save files constantly, and launchy will run each time, which is terrible. Is there any way to only get it to run when you actually want? This also applies to guard, but it's not nearly as annoying with guard.

• Scrum Board for a distributed team

  I am looking for recommendations on a digital Scrum Board which can be shared over the internet. I imagine something like a big tablet on which you can draw and which remote users can access, too. I dislike Scrum software because I think one major benefit of a Scrum Board is its physical presence. It should be hard to ignore. The best solution would be two big tablets on which you can draw and which can be synchronized. Has anyone got product recommendations for something like this? Or would you rather use a software? • Ubuntu 13.10 won't boot and hangs on a black screen

  I installed Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit today and I sat on the internet most of the day after installation. I shut the computer down and went bowling with my family. When I came back, I turned on my computer and it came to the boot screen as usual, but then the screen went black and stayed black. Can this be solved or do I have to install Ubuntu 13.04. My dad does not know about this and I do not want to get yelled at for an hour, so I need an answer before midnight mountain time, otherwise I will install Ubuntu 13.04 so I won't get yelled at in the morning.Thanks to anyone who answers this.

  I purchased a windows web host from Godaddy.com When I want to use an Email verification component (that wants to connect to the Internet) on my host, I get an error related to Web Permission denied. (ASP.NET 4) As I search, I found that Godaddy has changed web permission in ASP.NET and restrict some features of that. When I want to take web permission on my site, I get error 500 (Internal Server Error) Can I give permission to an assembly only or solve my problem in another way? I ask this question from Godaddy support team, but I didn't get any answers. Please help me :( Thanks all...

• Java plugin is not working on some sites

  I have icedtea6-plugin installed on my Ubuntu box. The weird thing is, when I am browsing the internet, certain website are able to use the Java and some websites are not. For instance, I am able to log in to my bank at nordea.dk. They use a Java applet to authenticate the user. But when I try to use keepvid.com, it says "Loading Java Applet". And then after a minute or two it says "Error: Please click here to download Java. If you already have Java, please restart your browser and try again." The thing is I've restarted my computer, closed and opened my browser(chromium) and none of it seems to help. Could someone please point me in the right direction to solve this problem? Thanks.

  Source Browsing in FireFox Just casually observed this a few minutes back with my Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3. When you do a view source of any  page in Internet Explorer it just renders as editable inoperative HTML. However in Firefox the hyperlinks are shown clickable and active. When you click on any hyperlink the most obvious and expected output would be that the target page would appear in one of the new tab in the parent browser. However the View Source window refreshed with the HTML source of the new page. I believe this gesture of Firefox would help us to take a journey back into Lynx Text Browsing in a way.

  I am an looking at a few different supplemental learning courses to help me beef up my skills but unsure which one to use. I am interested in PluralSight because I work for the government and they use all Microsoft technologies for the most part. I like the courses on PluralSight but the price tag is pretty hefty. I am not sure how good the courses are because I cannot view the ones I want so I am a tad bit skeptical. I am sure some of you have PluralSight, do you think its a good investment for your learning or should I just stick with books/internet? Any suggestions?

• How should I organise classes for a space simulator?

  I have pretty much taught myself everything I know about programming, so while I know how to teach myself (books, internet and reading API's), I'm finding that there hasn't been a whole lot in the way of good programming. I am finishing up learning the basics of XNA and I want to create a space simulator to test my knowledge. This isn't a full scale simulator, but just something that covers everything I learned. It's also going to be modular so I can build on it, after I get the basics down. One of the early features I want to implement is AI. And I want to take this into account as I'm designing my classes so I can minimize rewriting code. So my question: How should I design ship classes so that both the player and AI can use them? The only idea I have so far is: Create a ship class that contains stats, models, textures, collision data etc. The player and AI would then have the data for position, rotation, health, etc and would base their status off of the ship stats.

  One of our clients is getting a bit worried about the new "Do Not Track" feature of Internet Explorer 10. Her site is heavily dependent on php sessions (as I imagine many other sites are). This was what she was reading: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18288710 I need some clarification, will this affect how sessions (or cookies) work on normal web sites that use the PHP $_SESSION array?   Windows died. So, I installed ubuntu, and have had difficulties downloading apps from the internet like skype or realplayer... etc. And It does not recognize my password. I needed to install drivers for my wireless from cd-rom. It does not show where to save new downloaded files and programs, and app and does not show how to install like windows does. So I would like to go back to windows. Window does not not start up anymore and I can not get safe mode with F8. It goes to black screen only and none of other parameters work when press f8! Any help is highly valued.

• I can't click on some things and other problems

  I have some issues with my Ubuntu 12.04 . When I open Ubuntu Software Center, the program opens and than just disappears just when it is opened. My Ubuntu 12.04 won't install any updates because of this error in the picture. Worst of all: I can't click on anything except for programs that from Ubuntu: for example I can't browse the internet via Firefox or Chromium... I can't click on folders. I can't click on things in my Thunderbird mail program. But I can click on Update manager for example... It is just clicking that doesn't work, when I try 'clicking' something with using the tab-button and enter I can click on something - in every case. But that's just too annoying to do. Oh sorry guys I had some screenshots that illustrate the problems, but I can't get them off the 'problem pc ubuntu 12.04' about which I am talking... it's so sad

• dhcp configuration not working ubuntu 11.10

  I am usually behind a proxy server in college so I connect to the ethernet or wifi using manual IPv4 addresses only inside college. I have been trying really hard to get the internet work at home, there is no proxy and I have set the network to use automatic dhcp. It seems like it is not able to connect to the port, It gets disconnected after some time automatically and then tries to reconnect. The same thing is happening with wifi networks also, after some time i see a pop up asking for authentication and ultimately its not able to connect. What might be the problem here. I looked up some similar questions and checked the /etc/network/interfaces file and looks like this: auto lo iface lo inet loopback I have no idea what those lines mean but there is no configuration for eth0 or wlan0. Any help is deeply appreciated. Ubuntu loses it charms due to these small glitches.

• No enable mobile broadband option

  I just migrated from Wubi to actual dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 my machine is an Aspire 4750G. When I had (Wubi) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit the network applet included the "enable mobile broadband" option. Now, I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32-bit) actual install as the 64-bit does not work. And my problem is that it does not show the "enable mobile broadband" option. This is so weird considering that I did not encounter the same problem in Wubi based installation.. Kindly help.. I have managed to connect to the internet via Sakis3G Script, still I find the previous method a lot more convenient..

• Distribution upgrade made Ubuntu unusable

  I installed today a distribution update from 11.10 to 12.04. This however basically ruined the whole OS. After update I lost all the window borders, icons and even access to the internet. I'm also unable to use the default window manager and I had to use the old gnome. The computer is Acer Aspire 5738G laptop, Intel Pentium T4500, Ati Mobility Radeon HD 560v, 4Gb DDR 3. I am using the open source drivers, not proprietary. Does anyone have any idea what could've happened, and how could I fix this. Help is highly appreciated
