• Given a few strings, how many strings can be lexicographically least by modifying the alphabet?

  Number of strings can be huge as in 30000. Given N strings, output which ones can be lexicographically least after modifying the english alphabet. e.g. acdbe...... for example if the strings were: omm moo mom ommnom "mom" is already lexicographically least with the original english alphabet. we can make the word "omm" least by switching "m" and "o" in the alphabet ("abcdefghijklonmpqrstuvwxyz"). the other ones you cant make lexicographically last, no matter what you do. any fast way to do this? I have no ways to approach this except try every single possible alphabet

  Hey I am trying to shift elements forward sending the last element in the array to data[0]. I did the opposite direction but I can't seem to find my mistake in going in this direction.   hii, i am working on SNMP from last few days,i have develope a small application(SNMP Agent) which * Run on 161 port. * Have a tree structured OID support. * Respond to all Get,GetNext,Set Pdu Request types. * Tested with some SNMP Managers(free available) by get and set the values of the OID's. BUT,now question is when i tried it with Cacti it will not respond anything,but detect windows snmp service..it just respond to the requests of the SNMP Managers. So,Is it mandatory to provide mib with SNMP Agent??.

• Options for header in raw byte file.

  I have a large raw data file (up to 1GB) which contains raw samples from a USB data logger. I need to store extra information relating to the file (sample rate, description, trigger point, last seek position etc) and was looking into adding this as a some sort of header. The header file should ideally be human readable and flexible so I've so far ruled out some sort of binary serialization into a header. I also want to avoid two separate files as they could end up separated when copied or backed up. I remembered somebody telling me that newer *.*x Microsoft Office documents are actually a number of files in a zip. Is there a simple way to achieve this? Could I still keep the quick seek times to the raw file?

  Hi everybody! I've been working with swing for the last 2 years, but i'm still not satisfy with my own work. The apps are "fast" enough, but the development isn't enough "clean". Can you recommend me any real world project, book, or something similar that shows me how a real world swing app work. May be a framework, something structured, etc. For example, i'm thinking i may code a "window manager" that has all the window of the app in an unified resource, may be cached, etc. I think all those good ideas must be implemented already.   Hello GNU Emacs 23.1.1 I am wondering is there a way to display the path of the file in the status bar, instead of just the filename. I have to open many files in many directories, and sometimes I forget what directory they are in. Just easier to display the some of the path in the status bar if that is possible. Sometimes my directory paths are very long. for example /projects/clientserver/trunk/src/client/client.c like this in the status bar, just display the last two directories. /src/client/client.c Many thanks for any suggestions,

  In my application I generate files at random opportunities. To ensure a unique naming, I tried to use the nano seconds since 1.1.1970: long time = DateTime.Now.Ticks; String fileName = Convert.ToString(time); Console.WriteLine(fileName); Now I observed something weird. Why is the output like that? I mean why are the last 4 numbers always the same? • Indexed key vs indexed separate columns, which one is faster ?

  In MYSQL, from a pure performance perspective, if I have a table with large amount of data with 10/1 read/write ratio. is it faster in read/write performance to have 4 search criteria in separate columns and all indexed or have them combined in to one single string acting as a key and store in one indexed column ? e.g. say this table with 5 columns, first name, last name, sex, country and file where the first four columns will ALWAYS be given as a part of search parameters in a search or have a table with two columns, key and file. where the value of key can be john-smith-male-australia ?? I don't quite get the pros and cons. the point I try to stress is the fact that all parameters will be given.in a search.

  sudo easy_install ibm_db-1.0.1-py2.5-linux-i686.egg only works after sudo apt-get install python-dev. Some troubles to find that out in the first place ... Downloaded from IBM site v9.5fp5_linuxia32_dsdriver.tar.gz and pointing IBM_DB_DIR and IBM_DB_LIB to the clidriver(/lib) dir -- is this needed/correct one? -- libdb2.so(.1) is in there... • Working with multiple jQuery libraries and Prototype.

  Ok, i saw some other posts about this sort of thing, but not exactly related. This is not what I want to do, but need to do unfortunately. We have in this order right now Prototype 1.6 jQuery 1.2.6 with noConflict on jQuery with j I need to add jQuery 1.4.2 in that mix as well. It will always be the last one loaded. No option. I am thinking there is an easy way to reference all of the columns in a particular data frame aka: DF3<-DF[!(DF[,]==-999.000),] or DF3<-DF[!(DF[,(2:4)]==-999.000),] but obviously these do not work And out of curiosity, bonus points if you can me why I need that last comma before the ending square bracket as in: ==-999.000),]

• Are self-described / auto-descriptive services loosely or tightly coupled in a SOA architecture ?

  I consider a self-described / auto-descriptive service as a good thing in a SOA architecture, since (almost) everything you know to call the service is present in the service contract (such a WSDL). Sample of a non self-described service for me is Facebook Query Language (FQL http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FQL), or any web service exchanging XML flow in a one String parameter for then parsing XML and performing treatments. Last ones seem further more technically decoupled, since technically you can switch implementations without technical impact on the caller, handling compatibility between implementations/versions at a business level. On the other side, having no strong interface (diluted into the service and its version), make the service tightly coupled to the existing implementation (more difficulty to interchange the service and to ensure perfect compatibility).   I am trying to wrap a c++ class (let's call it "Spam") written by someone else with swig to expose it to Python. After solving several problems, I am able to import the module in python, but when I try to create an object of such class I obtain the following error: foo = Spam.Spam('abc',3) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "Spam.py", line 96, in __init__ this = _Spam.new_Spam(*args) NotImplementedError: Wrong number of arguments for overloaded function 'new_Spam'.   Hello, I have worked with Ruby on Rails for the last four years. So far I have used textmate for writing the code. This is working great as long as I don't need to do any decent presentation. I was wondering if there is any WYSIWYG editor out there that can intergrate with Rails. Something like Dreamweaver with the ability to browse Objects etc. If I have opened the _show.erb I create a div and selete @user.email. etc. Any suggestions?

  Hi Guys, I am trying to create a little php script that can make my life a bit easier. Basically, I am going to have 21 text fields on a page where I am going to input 20 different numbers. In the last field I will enter a number let's call it the TOTAL AMMOUNT. All I want the script to do is to point out which numbers from the 20 fields added up will come up to TOTAL AMMOUNT. Example: field1= 25.23 field2= 34.45 field3= 56.67 field4= 63.54 field5= 87.54 .... field20= 4.2 Total Ammount= 81.90 Output: field1+fields3=81.90 Some of the fields might have 0 as value because sometimes I only need to enter 5-15 fields and the maximum will be 20. If someone can help me out with the php code for this, will be greatly appreciated.

• How do I release an object allocated in a different AutoReleasePool ?

  Hi, I have a problem with the memory management in Objective-C. Say I have a method that allocates an object and stores the reference to this object as a member of the class. If I run through the same function a second time, I need to release this first object before creating a new one to replace it. Supposing that the first line of the function is: NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; This means that a different auto-release pool will be in place. The code to allocate the object is as follows: if (m_object != nil) [m_object release]; m_object = [[MyClass alloc] init]; [m_object retain]; The problem is that the program crashes when running the last line of the method: [pool release]; What am I doing wrong ?
