• [cocoa] NSSearchField not working as expected

  Hi, I'm trying to follow Marcus Zarra in his book 'Core Data'. In the book, he makes a small sample application, but it doesn't give much help when things don't work out... He starts out by visually designing three entities, and then adding array controllers for each entity to the main nib. Second, he adds a tableview and some other visual components to show data from the array controllers. So far, I have managed to follow, but now he adds a search field to the gui, and binds it to the same array controller as one of the tableviews. Expected behavior would be for the tableview to get filtered when typing in the search field, but nothing happens. How do I find out what's wrong? • 2D colliding n-body simulation (fast Collision Detection for large number of balls)

  Hello I want to write a program for simulating a motion of high number (N = 1000 - 10^5 and more) of bodies (circles) on 2D plane. All bodies have equal size and the only force between them is elastic collision. I want to get something like but in larger scale, with more balls and more dense filling of the plane (not a gas model as here, but smth like boiling water model). So I want a fast method of detection that ball number i does have any other ball on its path within 2*radius+V*delta_t distance. I don't want to do a full search of collision with N balls for each of i ball. (This search will be N^2.) PS Sorry for loop-animated GIF. Just press Esc to stop it. (Will not work in Chrome).

  Hi, I'm having difficulties animating my custom layer property using Core Anmiation. My question is how the presentation of a CALayer is generated. Here is what I have now: @interface MyLayer : CALayer { NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSMutableDictionary* customProperties; @end And when I try to animate the key path "customProperties.roll" using CABasicAnimation and addAnimation:forKey:, it seems that the customProperties variable doesn't get copied from the model layer to the presentation layer, and the customProperties of the presentation layer appears to be nil, failing to update the value for the key "roll". Is there a way to animate values in a dictionary correctly? What is the exact relationship between a model layer and a presentation layer while being animated? Thanks!

• Fine-grained permissions on SVN Repository

  Hello, I'm trying to setup a SVN repo for a whole bunch of users. Different users need to have different levels of access to areas of the repository. A trivial example might be that frontend engineers need access to the "view" and "controllers" but not "model", while backend engineers need access to the "controllers" and "model" but not "view". It needs to be one repository, because (as far as I know) that's the only way to ensure that commits touching multiple modules are atomic. Is there a fine-grained way to control user access to a repository? Thanks!

• Cocoa: getting a Table View cell to send action messages

  I'm really having trouble getting a Cocoa Table View cell to send action messages. At the most basic level, in IB there is an action assigned for the NSTextViewCell object, and after editing and pressing Return nothing happens. So I have an IBOutlet hooked up to the NSTextViewCell, and have been experimenting with NSActionCell messages to it. But the Table View seems to pretty much just ignore them. I've also tried subclassing NSTextViewCell, but the methods I'm seeing all look like they want to pass values to the object from somewhere, not return a value from inside the object to configure its behavior. I'm pretty new to programming and Cocoa -- can someone explain each thing that needs to be overridden and how and where to do it?

All is working well, its a simple web method(external webservice) that gets executed on the server tier(necessary, otherwise clr interop error) But I've ran into the following problems : is it possible to close the proxy one way or another? Because this option is not available in the generated service object in AX (only the webmethods and a tostring). at a certain moment, i ran into a service with faulted state. Normally, you create the service object again, but this didnt solve anything, until i restarted the AOS. Is this normal behaviour? Is the service object cached or something like that on server side?   We got some code that implement printing using Printdocument and it does all the drawing directly on the Graphics object received in the PrintEventArgs. It would be more convenient if the code doing the drawing used another canvas and we would add this canvas to the PrintEventArgs Graphics after. Since the code already depends on the Graphics object I need a canvas with this object. I also need a way to copy the canvas onto the PrintEventArgs Graphics. I can create a Graphicsfrom an Image but as far as I know it needs to be stored on the disk. Any suggestions?

  I am writing my first rails app. It needs to aggregate some data from multiple sites and for each site I have a unique way of getting the data (some provide RSS, some JSON, for some I scrape the HTML etc.). These will run on schedule, probably as a rake task from cron. It seems logical to store the sites and relevant information in a model, but I am not sure where to put unique data retrieval methods. Do I store method names in the model? Do I just name the methods the same as site name and call them that way? Basically, I need a way to read a list of sites and call appropriate method for each site. What is the Ruby on Rails way to do it?

• Why does Sitecore throw a NullReferenceException exception when I redirect to one of its pages?

  I'm running Sitecore 6.1 on Windows 2008, IIS7, and I'm trying to use the URL Rewrite Module to do a redirect. When I enable the rule and hit the URL that triggers it, I get a YSOD. The same rule works perfectly on a non-sitecore site on the same machine. According to the Failed Request Trace, the rewrite module does its thing just fine, but then Sitecore throws an exception, even if the redirect points to another server. This is probably a result of something I have misconfigured, but I just can't understand why it doesn't work. The details from the YSOD are below. • Sending persisted JDO instances over GWT-RPC

  I've just started learning Google Web Toolkit and finished writing the Stock Watcher tutorial app. Is my thinking correct that if one wants to persist a business object (like a Stock) using JDO and send it back and forth to/from the client over RPC then one has to create two separate classes for that object: One with the JDO annotations for persisting it on the server and another which is serialisable and used over RPC? I notice the Stock Watcher has separate classes and I can theorise why: Otherwise the gwt compiler would try to generate javascript for everything the persisted class referenced like JDO and com.google.blah.users.User, etc Also there may be logic on the server-side class which doesn't apply to the client and vice-versa. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. I don't want to have to create two versions of all my business object classes which I want to use over RPC if I don't have to.

I have created a function import in my data model called LogEvent with no return type, and I can see this function in the Model Browser tree at MyModel.edmx MyModel EntityContainer Function Imports LogEvent. I thought I should then be able to call the function in my code as follows: var context = new MyModelEntities(); context.LogEvent(...); But the LogEvent() method is not present. I assume Linq doesn't pre-compile (unless you create a customized delegate and function), so you should be able to dynamically specify which fields you want to filter. It would be nice if you could do something like e["Salary"] like some type of Expando Object.

  Hello, I am using datamapper in a ruby application and I'm facing a problem I do not understand. I have a Appartment model and a Location model. An appartment is at a given location and several appartments can be at the same location. This typically described a 1-n relationship (I guess :-) ) My feeeling is that in the Appartement sql table I need a location_id but I do not want any Appartment pointers within the Location table. For me, Location should live on its own and should not reference appartment. In the Appartement ruby class, I have added: has n, Location but it then creates an appartment_id within the Location ruby class, which I do not want. Would you have any clue ? Thanks a lot, Luc

  I was wondering what the general recommendation is for Entity Framework in terms of data validation. I am relatively new to EF, but it appears there are two main approaches to data validation. The first is to create a partial class for the model, and then perform data validations and update a rule violation collection of some sort. This is outlined at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc716747.aspx The other is to use data annotations and then have the annotations perform data validation. Scott Guthrie explains this on his blog at http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/01/15/asp-net-mvc-2-model-validation.aspx. I was wondering what the benefits are of one over the other. It seems the data annotations would be the preferred mechanism, especially as you move to RIA Services, but I want to ensure I am not missing something.   I usually tend to define the model layer of my apps using POJO's, such as Article, Comment, etc. I was about to implement an AlphabetIndexer in the adapter of one of my ListViews. Right now this adapter accepts a Collection of Articles, which I normally get from my wrapper around an SQLiteDatabase. The signature of the AlphabetIndexer constructer is as follows: public AlphabetIndexer (Cursor cursor, int sortedColumnIndex, CharSequence alphabet) Since this doesn't accept a Collection or something similar, just a Cursor, it got me wondering: maybe I shouldn't be creating objects for my model, and just use the Cursors returned from the database? So the question is, I guess: what should I do, represent data with Collections of POJO's, or just work with Cursors throughout my app? Any input?

  I have a PhoneNumber class that stores a normalized string, and I've defined implicit operators for string <- Phone to simplify treatment of the PhoneNumber as a string. I've also overridden the ToString() method to always return the cleaned version of the number (no hyphens or parentheses or spaces). In any MVC.NET code where I explicitly display the number, I can explicitly call phone.Format(). The problem here is serializing an entity that has a PhoneNumber to JSON; JavaScriptSerializer serializes it as [object Object]. I want to serialize it as a string in (555)555-5555 format. I've looked at writing a custom JavaScriptConverter, but JavaScriptConverter.Serialize() method returns a dictionary of name-value pairs. I don't want PhoneNumber to be treated as an object with fields, I want to simply serialize it as a string.

However, I am running into a lot of issues with first loading the assembly, then using any of the types once the assembly is loaded. The complete file path is: C:\rnd\CloudBerry.Backup.API.dll In Powershell I use: $dllpath = "C:\rnd\CloudBerry.Backup.API.dll" Add-Type -Path $dllpath I get the error below: Add-Type : Unable to load one or more of the requested types. • Cocoa - Enumerate mutable array, removing objects

  Hey there, I have a mutable array that contains mutable dictionaries with strings for the keys latitude, longitude and id. Some of the latitude and longitude values are the same and I want to remove the duplicates from the array so I only have one object per location. I can enumerate my array and using a second enumeration review each object to find objects that have different ids, but the same latitude and longitude, but if I try to remove the object, I'm muting the array during enumeration. Is there any way to remove objects from an array while enumerating so I only enumerate the current set of objects as the array is updated? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks, Howie
