  • Allow anonymous upload for Vsftpd?

    I need a basic FTP server on Linux (CentOS 5.5) without any security measure, since the server and the clients are located on a test LAN, not connected to the rest of the network, which itself uses non-routable IP's behind a NAT firewall with no incoming access to FTP. Some people recommend Vsftpd over PureFTPd or ProFTPd. No matter what I try, I can't get it to allow an anonymous user (ie. logging as "ftp" or "anonymous" and typing any string as password) to upload a file: # yum install vsftpd # mkdir /var/ftp/pub/upload # cat vsftpd.conf listen=YES anonymous_enable=YES local_enable=YES write_enable=YES xferlog_file=YES #anonymous users are restricted (chrooted) to anon_root #directory was created by root, hence owned by root.root anon_root=/var/ftp/pub/incoming anon_upload_enable=YES anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES #chroot_local_user=NO #chroot_list_enable=YES #chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list chown_uploads=YES When I log on from a client, here's what I get: 500 OOPS: cannot change directory:/var/ftp/pub/incoming I also tried "# chmod 777 /var/ftp/incoming/", but get the same error.     I am trying to launch VM using a XML. This VM will be having 5 interfaces each connected to certain bridge. Issue here is allocation of these interfaces is random.   • HP to Cisco spanning tree root flapping

    Per a recent question I recently configured both my HP (2x 2900) and Cisco (1x 3750) hardware to use MSTP for interoperability. I thought this was functional until I applied the change to the third device (HP switch 1 below) at which time the spanning tree root started flapping causing performance issues (5% packet loss) between my two HP switches. I'm not sure why. HP Switch 1 A4 connected to Cisco 1/0/1. HP Switch 2 B2 connected to Cisco 2/0/1. HP Switch 1 A2 connected to HP Switch 2 A1. I'd prefer the Cisco stack to act as the root. EDIT: There is one specific line - 'spanning-tree 1 path-cost 500000' in the HP switch 2 that I didn't add and was preexisting. I'm not sure if it could have the kind of impact that I'm describing. I'm more a security and monitoring guy then networking. EDIT 2: I'm starting to believe the problem lies in the fact that the value for my MST 0 instance on the Cisco is still at the default 32768. I worked up a diagram: This is based on every show command I could find for STP. I'll make this change after hours and see if it helps.   • High Jitter in NTP and poll value never goes above 128

    I have a lot of servers syncing to the same NTP servers (4). Not every server is in the same LAN. Some are 3 hops away from the NTP servers and some are 6 hops away. On couple of servers I see that the poll value never touches the 1024 mark and the jitter value is in double digits. Could it be due to the system hardware? These are windows servers (physical) and require as accurate time as possible. Please advice what I should do.   • Sendmail smtp-auth issues

    I'm running into a problem with Sendmail trying to implement SMTP- auth. I"m running 8.14.5 and have saslauthd running under FreeBSD 7.0-R. I don't believe I have starttls enabled (but I also compiled a version with it and have been testing it too - same problem) - just looking for basic auth, but am wondering if my configuration is not compatible with modern mail clients? I don't think I have any certs set up. It seems an older version of Microsoft Outlook Express works fine with SMTP-auth with no problems, but Outlook 2010 won't work, and neither will Eudora (basic settings to not use encryption and use same uid/pw as pop3 account name) When trying to send mail the server reports: "550 571 Relaying Denied. Proper authentication required." Is there some config that I am missing?   • Exchange 2010 forwarded emails by external servers being blocked

    Our users were getting spam messages from their own accounts (same domain/login for example [email protected] to [email protected]). This is preety standard trick and I decided to block it so that anonymous users can't send emails as @company.com. This brought some problems on us like our printers not being able to send emails etc but I solved it with secondary smtp receiver on different port with ip restrictions. However it seems to affect forwarding by some e-mail servers as well: Hi. This is the qmail-send program at home.pl. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. : 89.14.1.26 failed after I sent the message. Also how do I "reassing" back the permissions that was removed? EDIT to clarify: I have a domain domain.com configured as Authorative. Couple of our users are on project for differentcompany.com which is not on our servers or anywhere close. Now when they send an email from their accounts lets say [email protected] to [email protected] that special alias is configured so that any email it receives it forwards to multiple people including a group alias at our domain [email protected] and that group alias puts the email in users mailboxes. After the email is forwarded by [email protected] and it reaches our server it is denied because the forwarding done by the "external" server doesn't affect user information so for the server it seems like the [email protected] was actually sender and it treats it as spam and denies it. The server at differentcompany.com just adds itself to the header that it passed thru it and doesn't modify sender at anyway (seems like this is how forwarding works).     I recently set up a new server with Ubuntu karmic 9.10, and when I created my home directory I chose to make it encrypted. Now, after loading my authorized_keys file into ~/.ssh, it isn't recognized because my home directory isn't decrypted until after I log in. Is there a way to make SSH keys work with encrypted home directories under Ubuntu?

    Hi, I'm experiencing the following: I created a UIView subclass with a CATiledLayer as backing layer by overriding the layerClass method. Everything works fine but when zooming the scroll view keep repositioning itself on its center. It's hardly noticeable when zooming in the center of the content, but unbearable otherwise. The same scroll view works fine when I use as (zoomable) content any other view such as an UIImageView or even a normal UIView with a CATiledLayer with the same properties and delegate of the subclass implementation as sublayer.
