And now the worst part - I need the backgrounds to disappear on mouseleave. I need it to work with any HTML mess possible. The above is just an example and structure of the documents will differ. [tip. Processing the whole html before binding hover and putting some spans etc. is ok as long as it doesn't change the looks of the output document]

  I am wondering if there is a way to do this using Core Animation. Specifically, I am adding a sub-layer to a layer-backed custom NSView and setting its delegate to another custom NSView. That class's drawInRect method draws a single CGPath: - (void)drawInRect:(CGRect)rect inContext:(CGContextRef)context { CGContextSaveGState(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 12); CGMutablePathRef path = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(path, NULL, 0, 0); CGPathAddLineToPoint(path, NULL, rect.size.width, rect.size.height); CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextAddPath(context, path); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextRestoreGState(context); } My desired effect would be to animate the drawing of this line. That is, I'd like for the line to actually "stretch" in an animated way. It seems like there would be a simple way to do this using Core Animation, but I haven't been able to come across any. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could accomplish this goal?

• How to best show progress info when using ADO.NET?

  I want to show the user detailed progress information when performing potentially lengthy database operations. Specifically, when inserting/updating data that may be on the order of hundreds of KB or MB. Currently, I'm using in-memory DataTables and DataRows which are then synced with the database via TableAdapter.Update calls. This works fine and dandy, but the single call leaves little opportunity to glean any kind of progress info to show to the user. I have no idea how much data is passing through the network to the remote DB or its progress. Basically, all I know is when Update returns and it is assumed complete (barring any errors or exceptions). But this means all I can show is 0% and then a pause and then 100%. I can count the number of rows, even going so far to cound how many are actually Modified or Added, and I could even maybe calculate per DataRow its estimated size based on the datatype of each column, using sizeof for value types like int and checking length for things like strings or byte arrays. With that, I could probably determine, before updating, an estimated total transfer size, but I'm still stuck without any progress info once Update is called on the TableAdapter. Am I stuck just using an indeterminate progress bar or mouse waiting cursor? Would I need to radically change our data access layer to be able to hook into this kind of information? Even if I can't get it down to the precise KB transferred (like a web browser file download progress bar), could I at least know when each DataRow/DataTable finishes or something? How do you best show this kind of progress info using ADO.NET?

• Fast JSON serialization (and comparison with Pickle) for cluster computing in Python?

  I have a set of data points, each described by a dictionary. The processing of each data point is independent and I submit each one as a separate job to a cluster. Each data point has a unique name, and my cluster submission wrapper simply calls a script that takes a data point's name and a file describing all the data points. That script then accesses the data point from the file and performs the computation. Since each job has to load the set of all points only to retrieve the point to be run, I wanted to optimize this step by serializing the file describing the set of points into an easily retrievable format. I tried using JSONpickle, using the following method, to serialize a dictionary describing all the data points to file: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f, indent=1) f.close() The dictionary contains very simple objects (lists, strings, floats, etc.) and has a total of 54,000 keys. The json file is ~20 Megabytes in size. It takes ~20 seconds to load this file into memory, which seems very slow to me. I switched to using pickle with the same exact object, and found that it generates a file that's about 7.8 megabytes in size, and can be loaded in ~1-2 seconds. This is a significant improvement, but it still seems like loading of a small object (less than 100,000 entries) should be faster. Aside from that, pickle is not human readable, which was the big advantage of JSON for me. Is there a way to use JSON to get similar or better speed ups? If not, do you have other ideas on structuring this? (Is the right solution to simply "slice" the file describing each event into a separate file and pass that on to the script that runs a data point in a cluster job? It seems like that could lead to a proliferation of files). thanks.

• Visual C++ Assembly link library troubles

  Hi. I'm having a problem having my projects built in VC++ Express 2008... I'm using a library, irvine32.inc/lib. INCLUDE Irvine32.inc works for me at school (On already configured VS environments) by default, but at home (Windows 7 x64) I'm having a boatload of issues. My original post here was that a file that irvine32.inc referenced, in the same folder, 'could not be opened.' Added irvine folder to the include path for specific project, progress. Then I was getting an error with mt.exe, but a suggestion on the MSDN suggested turn off antivirus, and now project does build but when I run a program that does NOT reference anything in irvine32, it tells me repeatedly that my project has triggered a breakpoint, and allows me to continue or break. Continue just pops the same window, break loads another popup telling me that "No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. Source code cannot be displayed." This popup lets me view the disassembly. I tested it with and without working statements, it just throws the same breakpoint on the first line of code. Now, if I run the program when it DOES require something from the include file, in this case, DumpRegs: INCLUDE Irvine32.inc .data .code main PROC mov ebx,1000h mov eax,1000h add eax,ebx call DumpRegs main ENDP END main This gives me 1main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _DumpRegs@0 referenced in function _main@0 1C:\Users\Cameron\csis165\Lab8_CCarroll\Debug\Lab8_CCarroll.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals This does NOT happen when I build a project from the book author's examples, which has the same include statement. I'm baffled. :(

• JQuery jqGrid vertical spacing issue in IE

  I have been developing an app to use jQuery's jqGrid plugin, and I thought I had it all wrapped up until I tried to view the grid in IE. In IE, the grid appears with a much larger height in the .ui-jqgrid-view div, but the data itself stays at a smaller size and displays at the bottom of the container div (.ui-jqgrid-view). I need to get the grid to display "properly". I don't care if it is the larger size (that IE displays) or smaller (as in FF)... I just need to have the data fill the grid area. Thanks! • Stall in animation

It displays fine ie drops in from the top but when being removed it stalls just on its way out just for a fraction of second but its noticeable how do i get rid of the stall. • mysql-python stopped working

  This is a rather dumb question but i'am looking at a bizarre situation. I am running fedora and have python 2.6.5 installed. The other day i installed MySQL-python using yum (because i do not have the setuptools module so i cannot build it from source). Anyway yesterday i wrote my entire data access layer in python and it was running fine, i did test it. Today however it gives me an ImportError: No module named MySQLdb The only thing i ever changed was i installed eclipse and pyDev. Any ideas on what went wrong and how i fix it. I tried removing and re-installing MySql-python but that did not help. I did the following import sys print sys.path And it shows me all the paths which are basically pertaining to /usr/local/lib/python2.6 However i was trying to find where the MySQLdb module is installed and it seems that its installed in /usr/lib/python2.5/sitepackages Now i have no idea why it got installed there and why it was working earlier and why it stopped working now. Any ideas on how i should fix it. I did try copying the site-packages folder over to the python2.6 folder but that did not work Help!!

But now I'm facing another problem, namely the error in the title of this question. I'm trying to implement a simple priority queue in C using arrays of queues. However, when I try to declare a function on pcb_pQ structure, I get the above error. I have the structs clearly defined in the heard file. This error is pointing to the function signature in the .c file, namely VOID pcb_pq_enqueue(pcb_pQ* pcb_pQ, pcb* pcb) { But I am not sure why I am getting this error, could someone give me a hand?   How do software houses like Microsoft or anti-virus companies patch/update their software? Anti virus companies dont send the complete executable; only new virus signatures I suppose. Similarly, Ive noticed microsoft sends certain files to the '$NtUninstallKB......$' folder that it creates when it the windows update program runs. I suppose there is an installer in each such folder there that replaces only those dlls that need to be updated or fixed. Questions Is there a universal method for doing this or does each house employ their own methods? I dont want to re-send the entire application to each individual client. Suppose if only certain dlls need to be changed or maybe some more added, how should I go about planning my final compiled application. Do I need to look at separating my application into multiple assemblies? If yes, then is there some compilation method that is allows to pack specific classes into a particular dll? What I have put down here are my thoughts on the subject and I could be wrong. Could anyone throw some light on this please? I am looking at implementing such a deployment and patch management technique for the .net platform. Thanks for your time.

• Adding editFTPnetPRO to SSIS package causes error message

  I'm trying to add some secure FTP code to an SSIS package. I've used the EnterpriseDT product successfully on other .NET projects, so I wanted to incorporate it into an SSIS 2008 package I'm working on. If I create a Script Task (VB), edit the script, choose Project | Add Reference, and select the editFTPnetPRO.dll file, it comes back with this error: No template information found. See the application log in Event Viewer for more details. To open Event Viewer, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer. The application log doesn't contain any pertinent details. I have no idea what this is trying to tell me. I've gone down a couple dead ends searching for this error message and following the prescribed fixes, but nothing has fixed it yet. Any idea what might be going wrong? P.S. - I tried the devenv.exe /installvstemplates fix, which didn't change anything. Update: Here is the error captured in the SSIS package when you try to run it: Error: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. --- System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'edtFTPnetPRO, Version=6.3.1.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0dce1ad63760d80b' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Where is it looking for this file? I tried copying it to the project direcory, the bin folder, and the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.nnnn folder, but it still can't find it, and it won't tell me where it's looking.

  I first want to say I've read the Subversion manual. I've read this question. I've also read this question. Here's my dilemma. Let's say I have 3 repositories laid out like this: DataAccessObject/ branches/ tags/ trunk/ DataAccessObject/ DataAccessObjectTests/ PlanObject/ branches/ tags/ trunk/ PlanObject/ PlanObjectTests/ WinFormsPlanViewer/ branches/ tags/ trunk/ WinFormsPlanViewer/ The PlanObject and DataAccessObject repositories contain shared projects. They are used by the WinFormsPlanViewer, but also by several other projects in several other repositories. Bear with me here. I put an svn:externals definition on the WinFormsPlanViewer/trunk folder like this: https://server/svn/PlanObject/trunk Objects https://server/svn/DataAccessObject/trunk Objects And here's what I see after I do an svn update. WinFormsPlanViewer/ branches/ tags/ trunk/ WinFormsPlanViewer/ Objects/ DataAccessObject/ DataAccessObjectTests/ The PlanObject stuff doesn't even come down in the update! I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but there's an externals definition on the PlanObject/trunk folder also: https://server/svn/DataAccessObject/trunk Objects What's going on here? What am I doing wrong? Are there bad consequences of referencing the PlanObject and the DataAccessObject from the WinFormsPlanViewer using svn:externals when the PlanObject references the DataAccessObject using svn:externals also?

Is there a way I can re-factor the code to use tail recursion, or prevent the stack overflow.   Ok so I have a regex and I need it to find matches in a multiline string. This is the string I am using: Device Identifier: disk0 Device Node: /dev/disk0 Part of Whole: disk0 Device / Media Name: OCZ-VERTEX2 Media Volume Name: Not applicable (no file system) Mounted: Not applicable (no file system) File System: None Content (IOContent): GUID_partition_scheme OS Can Be Installed: No Media Type: Generic Protocol: SATA SMART Status: Verified Total Size: 240.1 GB (240057409536 Bytes) (exactly 468862128 512-Byte-Blocks) Volume Free Space: Not applicable (no file system) Device Block Size: 512 Bytes Read-Only Media: No Read-Only Volume: Not applicable (no file system) Ejectable: No Whole: Yes Internal: Yes Solid State: Yes OS 9 Drivers: No Low Level Format: Not supported Basically I need to separate each line into two groups with the colon as the separator. The regex I am using is: @"([A-Za-z0-9\(\) \-\/]+):([A-Za-z0-9\(\) \-\/]+).*" It does work but only picks up the first line and separates it into the two groups like I want but it stops at that point. I have tried the Multiline option but it doesn't make any difference. I must admit I am new to the regex world. Any help is appreciated.

  If I have an IEnumerable like: string[] items = new string[] { "a", "b", "c", "d" }; I would like to loop thru all the pairs of consecutive items (sliding window of size 2). IMHO there should be a nice way to do this kind of sliding window operations. I use C# 2.0 and I can imagine that with C# 3.0 (w/ LINQ) there are more (and nicer) ways to do this, but I'm primarily interested in C# 2.0 solutions. Though, I will also appreciate C# 3.0 solutions.

  After much searching the answer seems to be no, but I thought I'd ask here before giving up. For a project I'm working on that includes recording sound, the input levels sound a little quiet both when the route is external mic + speaker and when it's headphone mic + headphones. Does anyone know definitively whether it is possible to programmatically change mic gain levels on the iPhone in any part of Core Audio? If not, is it possible that I'm not really in "speakerphone" mode (with the external mic at least) but only think I am?   I have a very purdy styled search box in my wordpress install, and looking for continuity I want the same for my bbpress forum - currently I'm failing. For WP I have: <div id="search"> <form action="<?php bloginfo('home') ?>" method="get"> <div class="hiddenFields"></div> <p><input name="s" id="s" maxlength="100" size="18" /><input class="submit" id="submit-button" type="submit" value="submit" /></p></form> </div> For bbPress The form 'method="get"' gets kicked out and of-course I need another expression. bbpress generally seems to use: <div class="search"><?php search_form(); ?></div> This wrecks everything - I get no styling attributes at all other than position... I can make it look fine (and consistent) with by removing the - but then it's obviously just a dummy with no search - any ideas to fix the latter?   Hi, I am currently struggling with sIFR and a:hover. I tried different solution with no success either. When I write sIFR.replace(braganza, { selector: 'div#top-nav li', css: 'a { background-color: transparent; color: #FFFFFF; line-height: 13px; font-size: 11px; text-decoration: underline; cursor: pointer; } a:hover { color: #592b02; }', wmode: 'transparent' }); (which seems logical to me), the list items are not rendered at all.   I have a file in a different folder I want to rename in perl, I was looking at a solution earlier that showed something like this: for (<backup.rar>) { my $file = $_; my $new = $_ 'backup'. @test .'.rar'; rename $file, $new or die "Error, can not rename $file as $new: $!"; } however backup.rar is in a different folder, I did try putting "C:\backup\backup.rar" in the < above, however I got the same error. C:\Program Files\WinRARperl backup.pl String found where operator expected at backup.pl line 35, near "$_ 'backup'" (Missing operator before 'backup'?) syntax error at backup.pl line 35, near "$_ 'backup'" Execution of backup.pl aborted due to compilation errors. I was using # Get time my @test = POSIX::strftime("%m-%d-%Y--%H-%M-%S\n", localtime); print @test; To get the current time, however I couldn't seem to get it to rename correctly. What can I do to fix this? Please note I am doing this on a windows box.
