  This is a general how does DataBind work questions... I have a simple page with a GridView that is bound (in the aspx code) to an ObjectDataSource. I can look in the Select() function called by the ObjectDataSource to see that it is called on the initial load and on every post back. I have some logic that happens on post backs that will affect the GridView's data, and I want to call GridView.DataBind() later on in the post back, after I've made some changes. Is there a way to prevent the automatic rebinding that happens on each post back? Does this mean I can't use an ObjectDataSource for this control?

• Do breakpoints introduce delay?

  How is that setting a breakpoint in my code allows the following code to complete which would fail otherwise. Here is the problem. I'm writing an add-on for SAP B1 and encountered following problem. When I load a form I would like to enter some values into the form' matrix. But without a breakpoint (set on a method in which loading a form takes place) the part of code that is executed afterward will fail. That part of code is referencing a matrix that is not yet displayed which results in an exception. This is all clear. But why setting a breakpoint "solves" the problem. What is going on? I suspect that my breakpoint introduces some delay between loading and displaying my form and part of code that references element of that form but I could be wrong.

WHERE 'somestring' LIKE [Property] + '%' Sub Question: Can you access the abstract root alias in a SQLCriterion expression? This is somewhat achievable using the SQLCriterion expression Expression.Sql("? like {alias}.[Property] + '.%'", value, NHibernateUtil.String); However, in the case of class inheritance, {alias} is replaced with the incorrect alias for the column. Example (these classes are stored in separate tables): public abstract class Parent { public virtual string Property { get; set; } } public class Child : Parent { } The above query executed with Child as the root type will replace {alias} with the alias to the Child table rather than the Parent table. This results in an invalid column exception. I need to execute a like statement as above where the property exists on the parent table rather than on the root type table.

My question is this: What are the best practices to use when performing file I/O (this will be from the desktop app to a server and back) and file system navigation in C#? I'm trying to invoke a method with reflection that has a generic return type, like this: public class SomeClass<T> { public List<T> GetStuff(); } I get an instance of SomeClass with a call to a Repository's GetClass<T> generic method. MethodInfo lGetSomeClassMethodInfo = typeof(IRepository) .GetMethod("GetClass") .MakeGenericMethod(typeof(SomeClass<>); object lSomeClassInstance = lGetSomeClassMethodInfo.Invoke( lRepositoryInstance, null); After that, I this is where I try to invoke the GetStuff method: typeof(SomeClass<>).GetMethod("GetStuff").Invoke(lSomeClassInstance, null) I get an exception about the fact that the method has generic arguments. However, I can't use MakeGenericMethod to resolve the return type. Also, if instead of typeof(SomeClass<>) I use lSomeClassInstance.GetType() (which should have resolved types) GetMethod("GetStuff") returns null! UPDATE I have found the solution and will post the answer shortly.

  I've got an application where a shared object needs a reference to a per-request object. Shared: Engine | Per Req: IExtensions() | Request If i try to inject the IExtensions directly into the constructor of Engine, even as Lazy(Of IExtension), I get a "No scope matching [Request] is visible from the scope in which the instance was requested." exception when it tries to instantiate each IExtension. How can I create a HttpRequestScoped instance and then inject it into a shared instance? Would it be considered good practice to set it in the Request's factory (and therefore inject Engine into RequestFactory)?

• Connecting to hosted MySQL server with Java

  Hi, I've been recently trying to connect to a hosted MySQL using Java but can't get it to work. I can connect to a local MySQL with localhost using: connect = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/lego?" + "user=******&password=*******"); (Replacing the astrisks withmy username and password) I can connect to the hosted MySQL database fine with PHP using: mysql_connect('mysql.hosts.co.uk','******','**********'); mysql_select_db('test'); My problem is, I cannot connect via Java. I have an Exception which is caught if the connection doesn't work and this is always printed out. Any ideas why it isn't working? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your time, InfinitiFizz

• What is the "task" in twitter Storm parallelism

  I'm trying to learn twitter storm by following the great article "Understanding the parallelism of a Storm topology" However I'm a bit confused by the concept of "task". Is a task an running instance of the component(spout or bolt) ? A executor having multiple tasks actually is saying the same component is executed for multiple times by the executor, am I correct ? Moreover in a general parallelism sense, Storm will spawn a dedicated thread(executor) for a spout or bolt, but what is contributed to the parallelism by an executor(thread) having multiple tasks ? I think having multiple tasks in a thread, since a thread executes sequentially, only make the thread a kind of "cached" resource, which avoids spawning new thread for next task run. Am I correct? I may clear those confusion by myself after taking more time to investigate, but you know, we both love stackoverflow ;-) Thanks in advance.

  I'm trying to use reflection to get a specific MethodInfo of a class, but am unsure how to differentiate between the two following methods: public class Test { public IBar<T1> Foo<T1>(); public IBar<T1, T2> Foo<T1, T2>(); } How can I get a reference to the different Foo methods, assuming I know the number of type parameters? Just calling typeof(Test).GetMethod("Foo") will throw an exception that the method name is ambiguous and there aren't a differing number of parameters to check.

  I have a struts2 action with an @Secured({"ROLE_ADMIN"}) to secure the execute method. In the execute method i assign a message to a member variable of the action, then return SUCCESS and end up on the jsp page. On the page I retrieve the actions member variable with <sroperty. private String greeting; public String execute() throws Exception { this.greeting="Hello"; return SUCCESS; } // getters and setters for greeting ... <s:property value="greeting" /> The problem is when the secured annotation is present the jsp shows nothing for the member variable but when @Secured is removed the whole thing behaves properly and shows the message that was set into the member variable. It appears that the actual security is working ok but when enabled via the annotation the member variable (or maybe the instance of the action) is not making its way onto the value stack. I cant see any error messages.

  Hi, I looking to optimize an existing Makefile. It's used to create multiple plots (using Octave) for every logfile in a given directory using an scriptfile for every plot which takes a logfilename as an argument. In the Moment, I use one single rule for every kind of plot available, with a handwritten call to Octave, giving the specific scriptfile/logfile as an argument. It would be nice, if every plot has "his" octave-script as a dependency (plus the logfile, of course), so only one plot is regenerated if his script is changed. Since I don't want to type that much, I wonder how I can simplifiy this by using only one general rule to build "a" plot? To make it clearer: Logfile: "$(LOGNAME).log" Scriptfile: "plot$(PLOTNAME).m" creates "$(LOGNAME)_$(PLOTNAME).png" The first thing I had in mind: %1_%2.png: %1.log $(OCTAVE) --eval "plot$<2('$<1')" But this seems not to be allowed. Could someone give me a hint?

• IE7 not digesting JSON: "parse error"

  While trying to GET a JSON, my callback function is NOT firing. $.ajax({ type:"GET", dataType:'json', url: myLocalURL, data: myData, success: function(returned_data){alert('success');} }); The strangest part of this is that my JSON(s) validates on JSONlint this ONLY fails on IE7...it works in Safari, Chrome, and all versions of Firefox. If I use 'error', then it reports "parseError"...even though it validates! Is there anything that I'm missing? Does IE7 not process certain characters, data structures (my data doesn't have anything non-alphanumeric, but it DOES have nested JSONs)? I have used tons of other AJAX calls that all work (even in IE7), but with the exception of THIS call. An example data return here is: {"question":{ "question_id":"19", "question_text":"testing", "other_crap":"none" }, "timestamp":{ "response":"answer", "response_text":"the text here" } } I am completely at a loss. Hopefully someone has some insight into what's going on...thank you!

  Hey guys Just wondering what you'd suggest as the best platform for developing a business application for a tablet device. The application needs to be multitouch, have access to a maps API, a database on the device. It will not be going on sale in the app store or Androids market, it is purely for specific business task and not for the general consumer. Obviously the options seem to be iPhone OS and the iPad or Android and an Android tablet device. The form factor for the end product requires something in the region of 8 inch+ screen and enough processing power to provide a good experience for the end user. Any help would be much appreciated.   Hi! I have a aspx file that suppose to write to a file in the server while loading. On the local machine it works fine, but when i deploy it to a live server it gives me an exception "Access to the path 'd:\DZHosts\LocalUser\asafz83\www.asafz83.somee.com\lala.htm' is denied." WHen i asked my serverAdmin for the reason - he told me to remove any impersonation from my web.config file. Well, my web.config file doesn't contain any impersonation, so i'm really confused: What can i do in order for this sealy-stupid application to work? thanks!

  I'd like to override the Dispose method of generated proxy (ClientBase) because of the fact that disposing of a proxy calls Close and can throw an exception when the channel is faulted. The only way I came up was to create a partial class to my generatedproxy, make it inherit from IDisposable. : public partial class MyServiceProxy : IDisposable { #region IDisposable Members public void Dispose() { if (State != System.ServiceModel.CommunicationState.Faulted) Close(); else Abort(); } #endregion } I did some test and my Dipose method is indeed called. Do you see any issue with this strategy? Also, I don't like the fact that I'll have to create this partial class for every generated proxy. It be nice if I was able to make my proxy inherit from a base class...
