  • Why I am getting following error when trying to start SDK manager?

    - by rishiag
I have a 64 bit- 20 GB Ubuntu partition which has very less usable space. So I have put Eclipse in my Ubuntu and downloaded sdks to a folder in my another partition. So when I try to start sdk manager, I am getting the following error in my console: Unexpected exception 'Cannot run program "/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb": error=13, Permission denied' while attempting to get adb version from '/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb' I have run chmod recursively on android-sdks directory. If I change the address for sdks to Ubuntu partition, sdk manager starts successfully. Is there anything I can do other than increasing the partition size? Thanks

  • Down to the Wire - Yet More Solaris Things to See at OpenWorld (and JavaOne!)

    - by Larry Wake
San Francisco is bracing for the annual invasion. The airport's jammed, the tweets are flying, and the numbers are crazy: more than 50,000 attendees and 2,500+ sessions, taking over Moscone Convention Center, two streets, Union Square, and seemingly every hotel in town (98,000 hotel room nights). So yeah, it's busy. And it's not just OpenWorld--we've also got JavaOne, MySQL Connect, and four other sub-events going on as well. Speaking of JavaOne, you can find Solaris-related activity there, too -- I've highlighted one hands-on lab below. Here's a last pre-event roundup of activities for consideration; enjoy the show(s)! (Remember, Schedule Builder is your friend; use it with the session numbers below to register.) Monday, October 1st: 3:15 PM - General Session: Accelerate Your Business with the Oracle Hardware Advantage(GEN9691, Moscone North Hall D) John Fowler, head of Oracle's Systems organization, will talk about Oracle hardware technology and how it's co-engineered with other key technologies, including Oracle Solaris. Tuesday, October 2nd: 10:15 AM - Building an IaaS Platform with SPARC, Oracle Solaris 11, and Oracle VM Server for SPARC(CON4431, Moscone South 270)Get the birds-eye lowdown (whatever that means) on how U.S. Cellular  built its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud delivery platform with Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers, Oracle Solaris 11, Oracle Solaris Cluster 4, and Oracle VM Server for SPARC. The session covers the high-level design, business case made, implementation details, and lessons learned. 11:45 AM - Oracle Solaris 11 Panel: Insights and Directions from Oracle Solaris Core Engineering(CON8790, Moscone South 252) This has been one of the livelier Solaris-related sessions in years past (and I'm not saying that just because I get to moderate it this year). A panel of core engineers responsible for a wide range of key Solaris technologies will talk about some of the interesting work they've been doing -- but mostly we keep time open for the panel to take questions from attendees, because that's the fun part. Wednesday, October 3rd: 10:00 AM - Tracing Your Java Application Tuning on Oracle Solaris with DTrace(HOL10214, Hilton San Francisco, Franciscan A/B/C/D) This JavaOne hands-on lab will show how to use the DTrace framework to dynamically trace your Java applications on Oracle Solaris and uncover new tuning opportunities. Thursday, October 4th: 12:45 PM - Oracle Solaris 11: Optimized for Oracle Database, Oracle WebLogic Server, and Java(CON8800, Moscone South 252) Explore how Oracle Solaris 11 has been built to be the best platform for the cloud and enterprise applications, with built-in optimizations to improve performance and deliver unique functionality with Oracle Database, Oracle WebLogic Server, and Java.

  • Can I use multiple email servers at once?

    - by TheLQ
I was wondering: Can you use multiple email servers at once? In this case, I was going to add all the Google Apps MX records then add the MX records of another email server. My goal here is to only use the somewhat expensive Google Apps for only important email addresses (eg all the employees), then use the other cheap email server for other email addresses like webmaster and some other unimportant but needed emails. My thought is that a mail message would try the first 5 Google Apps mail servers, fail, then go to mine and succeed. Would this work? If not, are there any other options?

  • Unable to access my gmail after moving to another country

    - by Gilgamesh
I am completely fed up with google's useless security policy for emails. I hope there is any method to solve this. What is happenibg is that I used to use my gmail account from Turkey and recently I had to move to Sweden. When trying to gain access to the same account from there, google tells me that 'something has changed'since my last access and it is asking that I verify myself using methods that I forgot them all because I created that account two years ago when I had a different phone number and email and when I did not care much to answer the'secret' question. I also tried google's incompetent recovery survey that judged that I did not provide sufficient information for them to give me access again. Is there any way to solve this, please help. I desperately need to access that account. Thanks

  • Mirrored servers in data centers nationwide -- how? [closed]

    - by Sysadmin Evstar
Possible Duplicate: Mirrored servers in data centers nationwide — how? Mirrored servers in data centers nationwide -- how? I flunked my IT interview by getting this question wrong. I thought that in the various metropolitan areas, an "http://google.com" request goes to the ISP's DNS server, which somehow returns an IP address for one of several geographically-nearby http servers, and then something internally rolls over to the next available local Google server. But then, I could not explain where the table of available local Google servers is actually cached, or the details of the IP address rollover. Or how they could manually take some server out of the rotation, from anywhere. So, what should I be reading now so I can ace this question next time? Also, what daemons run on these machines 24/7 to keep all those mirrored database disks synchronized?

  • The model item passed into the dictionary is of type ‘mvc.Models.ModelA’ but this dictionary require

    - by Malcolm Frexner
I have this annoying mistake in some of my builds. There is no error in the project, because if I build again, then the problem disappears. The message only appears, when the site is deployed to a Windows 2008 Server. I first thought that it might be an issue with temporary files, but thats not the case. I deployed the build to a different web and the error still appears. The error appears on random actions of the site. Most of the time builds are ok, but each 3rd or 4th build produces runtime errors. I build using a WebdeploymentProject in release mode. Views are precompiled. It's not http://stackoverflow.com/questions/178194/in-asp-net-mvc-i-encounter-an-incorrect-type-error-when-rendering-a-page-with-the, because views have totally different names. How I can debug this problem or how I can get help for this? • Simple jquery ajax call leaks memory in ie.

    - by Thomas Lane
I created a web page that makes an ajax call every second. In Internet Explorer 7, it leaks memory badly (20MB in about 15 minutes). The program is very simple. It just runs a javascript function that makes an ajax call. The server returns an empty string, and the javascript does nothing with it. I use setTimout to run the function every second, and I'm using Drip to watch the thing. Here is the source: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load('jquery', '1.4.2'); google.load('jqueryui', '1.7.2'); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> setTimeout('testJunk()',1000); function testJunk() { $.ajax({ url: 'http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/test', // The url returns an empty string dataType: 'html', success: function(data){} }); setTimeout('testJunk()',1000) } </script> </head> <body> Why is memory usage going up? </body> </html> Anyone have an idea how to plug this leak? I have a real application that updates a large table this way, but left unattended will eat up Gigabytes of memory. Okay, so after some good suggestions, I modified the code to: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load('jquery', '1.4.2'); google.load('jqueryui', '1.7.2'); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> setTimeout(testJunk,1000); function testJunk() { $.ajax({ url: 'http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx/test', // The url returns an empty string dataType: 'html', success: function(data){setTimeout(testJunk,1000)} }); } </script> </head> <body> Why is memory usage going up? </body> </html> It didn't seem to make any difference though. I'm not doing anything with the DOM, and if I comment out the ajax call, the memory leak stops. So it looks like the leak is entirely in the ajax call. Does jquery ajax inherently create some sort of circular reference, and if so, how can I free it? By the way, it doesn't leak in Firefox. Someone suggested running the test in another VM and see if the results are the same. Rather than setting up another VM, I found a laptop that was running XP Home with IE8. It exhibits the same problem. I tried some older versions of jquery and got better results, but the problem didn't go away entirely until I abandoned ajax in jquery and went with more traditional (and ugly) ajax.

  • In Ruby, how to I read memory values from an external process?

    - by grg-n-sox
So all I simply want to do is make a Ruby program that reads some values from known memory address in another process's virtual memory. Through my research and basic knowledge of hex editing a running process's x86 assembly in memory, I have found the base address and offsets for the values in memory I want. I do not want to change them; I just want to read them. I asked a developer of a memory editor how to approach this abstract of language and assuming a Windows platform. He told me the Win32API calls for OpenProcess, CreateProcess, ReadProcessMemory, and WriteProcessMemory were the way to go using either C or C++. I think that the way to go would be just using the Win32API class and mapping two instances of it; One for either OpenProcess or CreateProcess, depending on if the user already has th process running or not, and another instance will be mapped to ReadProcessMemory. I probably still need to find the function for getting the list of running processes so I know which running process is the one I want if it is running already. This would take some work to put all together, but I am figuring it wouldn't be too bad to code up. It is just a new area of programming for me since I have never worked this low level from a high level language (well, higher level than C anyways). I am just wondering of the ways to approach this. I could just use a bunch or Win32API calls, but that means having to deal with a bunch of string and array pack and unpacking that is system dependant I want to eventually make this work cross-platform since the process I am reading from is produced from an executable that has multiple platform builds, (I know the memory address changes from system to system. The idea is to have a flat file that contains all memory mappings so the Ruby program can just match the current platform environment to the matching memory mapping.) but from the looks of things I'll just have to make a class that wraps whatever is the current platform's system shared library memory related function calls. For all I know, there could already exist a Ruby gem that takes care of all of this for me that I am just not finding. I could also possibly try editing the executables for each build to make it so whenever the memory values I want to read from are written to by the process, it also writes a copy of the new value to a space in shared memory that I somehow have Ruby make an instance of a class that is a pointer under the hood to that shared memory address and somehow signal to the Ruby program that the value was updated and should be reloaded. Basically a interrupt based system would be nice, but since the purpose of reading these values is just to send to a scoreboard broadcasted from a central server, I could just stick to a polling based system that sends updates at fixed time intervals. I also could just abandon Ruby altogether and go for C or C++ but I do not know those nearly as well. I actually know more x86 than C++ and I only know C as far as system independent ANSI C and have never dealt with shared system libraries before. So is there a gem or lesser known module available that has already done this? If not, then any additional information as to how to accomplish this would be nice. I guess, long story short, how do I do all this? Thanks in advance, Grg PS: Also a confirmation that those Win32API calls should be aimed at the kernel32.dll library would be nice.

  • If 'Architect' is a dirty word - what's the alternative; when not everyone can actually design a goo

    - by Andras Zoltan
Now - I'm a developer first and foremost; but whenever I sit down to work on a big project with lots of interlinking components and areas, I will forward-plan my interfaces, base classes etc as best I can - putting on my Architect hat. For a few weeks I've been doing this for a huge project - designing whole swathes of interfaces etc for a business-wide platform that we're developing. The basic structure is a couple of big projects that consists of service and data interfaces, with some basic implementations of all of these. On their own, these assemblies are useless though, as they are simply intended intended as a scaffold on which to build a business-specific implementation (we have a lot of businesses). Therefore, the design of the core platform is absolutely crucial, since consumers of the system are not intended to know which implementation they are actually using. In the past it's not worked so well, but after a few proof-of-concepts and R&D projects this new platform is now growing nicely and is already proving itself. Then somebody else gets involved in the project - he's a TDD man who sees code-level architecture as an irrelevance and is definitely from the camp that 'architect' is a dirty word - I should add that our working relationship is very good despite this :) He's open about the fact that he can't architect in advance and obviously TDD really helps him because it allows him to evolve his systems over time. That I get, and totally understand; but it means that his coding style, basically, doesn't seem to be able to honour the architecture that I've been putting in place. Now don't get me wrong - he's an awesome coder; but the other day he needed to extend one of his components (an implementation of a core interface) to bring in an extra implementation-specific dependency; and in doing so he extended the core interface as well as his implementation (he uses ReSharper), thus breaking the independence of the whole interface. When I pointed out his error to him, he was dismayed. Being test-first, all that mattered to him was that he'd made his tests pass, and just said 'well, I need that dependency, so can't we put it in?'. Of course we could put it in, but I was frustrated that he couldn't see that refactoring the generic interface to incorporate an implementation-specific feature was just wrong! But it is all very Charlie Brown to him (you know the sound the adults make when they're talking to the children) - as far as he's concerned we don't need to worry about it because we can always refactor. The problem is, the culture of test-write-refactor is all very well and good - but not when you're dealing with a platform that is going to be shared out among so many projects that you could never get them all in one place to make the refactorings work. In my opinion, sometimes you actually have to think about what you're doing, and not just let nature take its course. Am I simply fulfilling the role of Architect as a dirty word here? I believe that architecture is important and should be thought about before code gets written; unless it's a particularly small project. But when you're working in a team of people who don't think that way, or even can't think that way how can you actually get this across? Is it a case of simply making the architecture off-limits to changes by other people? I don't want to start having bloody committees just to be able to grow the system; but equally I don't want to be the only one responsible for it all. Do you think the architect role is a waste of time? Is it at odds with TDD and other practises? Can this mix of different practises be made to work, or should I just be a lot less precious (and in so doing allow a generic platform become useless!)? Or do I just lay down the law? Any ideas/experiences/views gratefully received.

  • How to implement message queuing and handling in AWS with NServiceBus

    - by Pete Lunenfeld
I am creating a new ASP MVC order application in the Amazon (AWS) cloud with the persistence layer at my local datacenter. I will be using the CQRS pattern. The goal of the project is high availability using Queue(s) to store and forward writes (commands/events) that can be picked up and handled asynchronously at my local datacenter. Then, ff the WAN or my local datacenter fails, my cloud MVC app can still take orders and just queue them up until processing can resume. My first thought was to use AWS SQS for the queuing and create my own queue consumer/dispatcher/handler in my own c# application to process the incoming messages/events. MVC (@ Amazon) -- Event/POCO -- SQS -- QueueReader (@ my datacenter) -- DB Then I found NServiceBus. NSB seems to handle lots of details very nicely: message handling, retries, error handling, etc. I hate to reinvent the wheel, and NServiceBus seems like a full featured and mature product that would be perfect for me. But on further research, it does NOT look like NServiceBus is really meant to be used over the WAN in physically separated environments (Cloud to my Datacenter). Google and SO don't really paint a good picture of using NServiceBus across the WAN like I need. How can I use NServiceBus across the WAN? Or is there a better solution to handle queuing and message handling between Amazon an my local datacenter?

  • Squid + Dans Guardian (simple configuration)

    - by The Digital Ninja
I just built a new proxy server and compiled the latest versions of squid and dansguardian. We use basic authentication to select what users are allowed outside of our network. It seems squid is working just fine and accepts my username and password and lets me out. But if i connect to dans guardian, it prompts for username and password and then displays a message saying my username is not allowed to access the internet. Its pulling my username for the error message so i know it knows who i am. The part i get confused on is i thought that part was handled all by squid, and squid is working flawlessly. Can someone please double check my config files and tell me if i'm missing something or there is some new option i must set to get this to work. dansguardian.conf # Web Access Denied Reporting (does not affect logging) # # -1 = log, but do not block - Stealth mode # 0 = just say 'Access Denied' # 1 = report why but not what denied phrase # 2 = report fully # 3 = use HTML template file (accessdeniedaddress ignored) - recommended # reportinglevel = 3 # Language dir where languages are stored for internationalisation. # The HTML template within this dir is only used when reportinglevel # is set to 3. • video and file caching with squid lusca?

hello all i have configured squid lusca on ubuntu 11.04 version and also configured the video caching but the problem is the squid cannot configure the video more than 2 min long and the file of size upto 5.xx mbs only. here is my config please guide me how can i cache the long videos and files with squid: > # PORT and Transparent Option http_port 8080 transparent server_http11 on icp_port 0 > > # Cache Directory , modify it according to your system. > # but first create directory in root by mkdir /cache1 > # and then issue this command chown proxy:proxy /cache1 > # [for ubuntu user is proxy, in Fedora user is SQUID] > # I have set 500 MB for caching reserved just for caching , > # adjust it according to your need. > # My recommendation is to have one cache_dir per drive. zzz > > #store_dir_select_algorithm round-robin cache_dir aufs /cache1 500 16 256 cache_replacement_policy heap LFUDA memory_replacement_policy heap > LFUDA > > # If you want to enable DATE time n SQUID Logs, use following emulate_httpd_log on logformat squid %tl %6tr %>a %Ss/%03Hs %<st %rm > %ru %un %Sh/%<A %mt log_fqdn off > > # How much days to keep users access web logs > # You need to rotate your log files with a cron job. • Voice Recognition Connection problem

    - by user244190
I,m trying to work through and test a Voice Recognition example based on the VoiceRecognition.java example at http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/app/VoiceRecognition.html but when click on the button to create the activity, I get a dialog that says Connection problem. My Manifest file is using the Internet Permission, and I understand it passes the to the Google Servers. Do I need to do anything else to use this. Code below UPDATE: Ok, I was able to replace my emulator image with one from HTC that appears to come with Google Voice Search, however now when I run from the emulator, i'm getting an Audio Problem message with Speak Again or Cancel buttons. It appears to make it back to the onActivityResult(), but the resultCode is 0. Here is the LogCat output: 03-07 20:21:25.396: INFO/ActivityManager(578): Starting activity: Intent { action=android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH comp={com.google.android.voicesearch/com.google.android.voicesearch.RecognitionActivity} (has extras) } 03-07 20:21:25.406: WARN/ActivityManager(578): Activity is launching as a new task, so cancelling activity result. 03-07 20:21:25.968: WARN/ActivityManager(578): Activity pause timeout for HistoryRecord{434f7850 {com.ikonicsoft.mileagegenie/com.ikonicsoft.mileagegenie.MileageGenie}} 03-07 20:21:26.206: WARN/AudioHardwareInterface(554): getInputBufferSize bad sampling rate: 16000 03-07 20:21:26.256: ERROR/AudioRecord(819): Recording parameters are not supported: sampleRate 16000, channelCount 1, format 1 03-07 20:21:26.696: INFO/ActivityManager(578): Displayed activity com.google.android.voicesearch/.RecognitionActivity: 1295 ms 03-07 20:21:29.890: DEBUG/dalvikvm(806): threadid=3: still suspended after undo (s=1 d=1) 03-07 20:21:29.896: INFO/dalvikvm(806): Uncaught exception thrown by finalizer (will be discarded): 03-07 20:21:29.896: INFO/dalvikvm(806): Ljava/lang/IllegalStateException;: Finalizing cursor android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor@435d3c50 on ml_trackdata that has not been deactivated or closed 03-07 20:21:29.896: INFO/dalvikvm(806): at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCursor.finalize(SQLiteCursor.java:596) 03-07 20:21:29.896: INFO/dalvikvm(806): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.run(Native Method) 03-07 20:21:31.468: DEBUG/dalvikvm(806): threadid=5: still suspended after undo (s=1 d=1) 03-07 20:21:32.436: WARN/IInputConnectionWrapper(806): showStatusIcon on inactive InputConnection I,m still not sure why I,m getting the Connect problem on the Droid. • Why are emails sent from my applications being marked as spam?

    - by Brian
Hi. I have 2 web apps running on the same server. The first is www.nimikri.com and the other is www.hourjar.com. Both apps share the same IP address (75.127.100.175). My server is through a shared hosting company. I've been testing my apps, and at first all my emails were being delivered to me just fine. Then a few days ago every email from both apps got dumped into my spam box (in gmail and google apps). So far the apps have just been sending emails to me and nobody else, so I know people aren't manually flagging them as spam. I did a reverse DNS lookup for my IP and the results I got were these: 100.127.75.in-addr.arpa NS DNS2.GNAX.NET. 100.127.75.in-addr.arpa NS DNS1.GNAX.NET. Should the reverse DNS lookup point to nimikri.com and hourjar.com, or are they set up fine the way they are? I noticed in the email header these 2 lines: Received: from nimikri.nimikri.com From: Hour Jar <[email protected]> Would the different domain names be causing gmail to think this is spam? Here is the header from one of the emails. Please let me know if any of this looks like a red flag for spam. Thanks. • Linq to XML Read and output XML generated from lookup list

    - by Greg S
    I am trying to use XML created from a lookup list in SharePoint as a datasource for a treeview. It is in the form of : <NewDataSet> <test_data> <ID>1</ID> <Title>MenuItem_1</Title> <child_of /> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>2</ID> <Title>Subitem_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_1</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>3</ID> <Title>Subitem_2</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_1</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>4</ID> <Title>MenuItem_2</Title> <child_of /> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>5</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_2</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>6</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_2</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>MenuItem_2</child_of> </test_data> <test_data> <ID>7</ID> <Title>Subitem_2_2_1</Title> <Action>http://www.google.com</Action> <child_of>Subitem_2_2</child_of> </test_data> </NewDataSet> There may be N tiers, but the items relate to the parent via the <child_of> element. I can't seem to figure out how to write the LINQ in C# to nest the menu items properly. A friend recommended I post here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Image Hover-HTML CSS

    - by LostSchemer
    I am having trouble creating a different image to appear when you place your curser over the original image. Heres my code without the rest of my listed buttons: <nav class="buttons"> <ul> <li class="left"> <a class="home" href="www.google.com"> <img src="img/Home_2.png"></a></li> </ul> </nav> Css: .buttons img{width: 190px; margin:0px; padding:0px; margin:0 auto; margin-top:55px;} .buttons ul{list-style-type: none; margin:0px; padding:0px} .left{float:left} .home:hover {background: url(../img/Home_crack.PNG)} Any suggestions? EDIT: Okay great suggestions, however when I hover over the "home button" now the stuff in the float tweeks out. Heres the code with the full float properties: HTML: <nav class="buttons"> <ul> <li class="left"> <a class="home" href="www.google.com"> <img src="img/Home_2.png"></a></li> <li class="left"> <a href="www.google.com" class="menu"> <img src="img/Menu_2.png"></a></li> <li class="right"> <a href="www.google.com" class="about"> <img src="img/About_2.png"></a></li> <li class="right"> <a href="www.google.com" class="contact"> <img src="img/Contact_2.png"></a></li> </ul> </nav> CSS: .buttons img{width: 190px; margin:0px; padding:0px; margin:0 auto; margin-top:55px;} .buttons ul{list-style-type: none; margin:0px; padding:0px} .left{float:left} .home:hover img{display:none} .home:hover {background: url(../img/Home_crack.PNG);} .right{float:right} Basically i wanted to separate 4 buttons.... one in the left float and one in the right float, then on the hover, the buttons would change to a different image....With the new img{display:none} the left float rapidly flashes.
