• Subsumption architecture vs. perceptual control theory

  I'm a new person to AI field and I have to research and compare 2 different architectures for a thesis I'm writing. Before you scream (homework thread), I've been reading on these 2 topics only to find that I'm confusing myself more.. let me first start with stating briefly what I know so far. Subsumption is based on the fact that targets of a system are different in sophistication, thus that requires them to be added as layers, each layer can suppress (modify) the command of the layers below it, and there are inhibitors to stop signals from execution lets say. PCT stresses on the fact that there are nodes to handle environmental changes (negative feedback), so the inputs coming from an environment go through a comparator node and then an action is generated by that node, HPCT or (Hierarchical PCT) is based on nesting these cycles inside each other so a small cycle to avoid crashing would be nested in a more sophisticated cycle that targets a certain location for example. My questions, am I getting this the right way? am I missing any critical understanding about these 2 models? also any idea where I can find simplified explanations for each theory (so far been struggling trying to understand the papers from Google scholar :< ) /Y

• How can I re-enable the typing break in 11.10?

  I've just upgraded to beta 2 of Oneiric/11.10 and the typing break has gone. I've gone into the system settings and looked in "Keyboard Layout" and "Keyboard" and can't find anything. Has it just been dropped? Is there some hidden way to re-enable it? Update: Thought I'd write an update based on some stuff that has happened since this question (and the two answers) were written. Workrave has now been re-instated in oneiric-backports and for 12.04 (how to enable backports). It works fine, though if you want to put it in your systray then you need to allow it in there. The easy/lazy command line way to allow workrave into the notification area is to do something like: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" But read this question if you want a more detailed explanation about what you're doing here. Meanwhile the Gnome typing break has been split out into an app called DrWright, however it has not (at time of writing) been packaged for 11.10 (or later). And as mentioned in the other answer, another option is RSIBreak. It is a KDE app but works fine in Unity.

  I am trying to move messages from a rather large mailbox to an archive mailbox. However I run into errors all the time. the command I am executing is Export-Mailbox -Identity MAILBOX_FROM -TargetMailbox ARCHIVE -TargetFolder ARCHIVE_FOLDER -StartDate 2009-02-01 -EndDate 2009-02-28 -DeleteContent -Confirm:$false I can copy/move some messages, but run into frequent "an unknown error has occurred" (statuscode -1056749164) I run the console as administrative user, and all permissions are set right, as far as I can tell. I've restricted the start and end dates in case the number of messages moved/deleted should create problems. Anything I am missing in my setup? Corrupted messages? Over-limit message sizes?

• Does openssl errno 104 mean that SSLv2 is disabled?

  I want to check if my server has SSLv2 disabled. I am doing this by attempting to connect remotely with openssl with the following shell command. openssl s_client -connect HOSTNAME:443 -ssl2 Most literature I could find on the Internet says if I see something similar to the following error then SSLv2 is properly disabled. 29638:error:1407F0E5:SSL routines:SSL2_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:s2_pkt.c:428: I do get the above error when connecting to my Ubuntu server with SSLv2 disabled in Apache Apache but when I connect to my Windows Server 2008 R2 server with SSLv2 disabled in the registry I get the following output and error. CONNECTED(00000003) write:errno=104 I can't find any literature explaining this output and error. If anybody could explain to me if and why this output and error means that SSLv2 is properly disabled, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

• How can I set Windows Server 2008 juntion points to Every Read Allow?

  We have apps running on Windows Server 2003 and now 2008 as well. Unfortunately some of our code relies on inspecting the Documents and Settings directory which no longer exists in Windows 2003. It looks like there are "Junction Points" set up for backwards compatibility - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb756982.aspx. But it seems like nothing I can do can get me access. I basically need to be able to call from a command line on both 2003 and 2008: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Which translates in Windows 2008 to : C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe I've tried setting up my own "Documents and Settings" folder in 2008 but it won't let me as that seems to be reserved for these Juntion Points.

  I've installed nvidia-current using the Additional Drivers application in Ubuntu 12.04. I need those drivers so I can use accelerated WebGL. • Setting execute permission on a Fedora 11 (host and guest) shared folder file is not working for me.

  I have set up a VirtualBox Fedora 11 (i386) guest on my Fedora 11 (x86_64) host system with shared folders enabled. I mount the shared folder successfully with the recommended "mount -t vboxsf share /shareddir -o rw,exec,uid=500,gid=100" command. I can successfully read and write files in the share from the guest but I cannot set the execute bit on any file in the share from the guest system. Nothing in GoogleSpace seems to address my issue let alone provide a solution. fwiw, selinux is disabled on both the guest and host and the shared folder is an ext4 file system.

• Ubuntu + latest samba version, symlinks no longer work on share mounted in windows

  I just apt-getted (apt-got?) the latest software for my Ubuntu 9.10 linux box, and I noticed that samba was the included in the update. After the install, the symlinks in my home directory no longer work when mounted as a drive in my linux box. They worked literally seconds before I did the update. All my normal directories work just fine. Viewing the directory listing on the command line, all the files, dirs & links have the exact same permissions, yet this is the error I get: Location is not available L:\LinkDir is not accessible. Access is denied. I looked on the forums, and i saw this option for the smb.conf follow symlinks = yes wide symlinks = yes unix extensions = no I put those in, but they had no effect. Has anyone had this problem yet?

• How do I capture my second monitor using avconv?

  With this command: avconv -f x11grab -s 2560x1440 -i :0.0 I can stream video from my main monitor. I also have a second, 1080p monitor on which I do my gaming. I want to stream from that monitor. This doesn't work: avconv -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -i :0.1 I assume I have to use -i :0.0 and somehow specify that it should capture 1920x1080 pixels from X position 2560 and Y position 0.   On one of my servers (2008 R2) powershell refuses to run executables without extension, so typing cmd (or &cmd) in command prompt results in folowing error message: The term 'cmd' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet Invoking executable one of the following ways pops out separate window (which executes asynchronously in respect to parent). I've tried that in x86 version of powershell and in x64 one. I've tried -Noprofile argument. PATH seems to be OK. It includes System32 and all. The only way I've managed to execute cmd inline form powershell is opening standard cmd.exe shell, executing powershell.exe from it and executing cmd /c echo test from it. Inception, huh? What should I try next?

  I am using netfilter_queue to pick up certain packets from the kernel and do some processing on them. To, the netfilter queue, I need all packets from a particular source except UDP packets with src port 2152 & dst port 2152. I try to add the iptable rule as iptables -A OUTPUT ! s 192.168.0.3 ! -p udp ! --sport 2905 ! --dport 2905 -j NFQUEUE --queue-num 0 iptables throw up an error of Invalid Argument. Querying dmesg, I see the following error print ip_tables: udp match: only valid for protocol 17 I have tried the following variation with the same error thrown. iptables -A OUTPUT ! s 192.168.0.3 ! -p udp --sport 2905 --dport 2905 -j NFQUEUE --queue-num 0 Can you please advise on the correct usage of the iptables command for my case.

Intel OpenCL SDK is installed and working. Iteration of avaliable OpenCL devices shows 2 entries for Intel. As recommended I installed AMD APP SDK 2.6 first and then the fglrx driver.   The problem: the computers [Xbox 360 and a Kubuntu 12.04.1 laptop] can't access Internet through a recently-installed desktopless Debian 6 laptop (which is wirelessly connected to a WLAN station) but addresses are successfully given by dnsmasq. The attempts: 1.1) /etc/dnsmaq.conf conffed according to http://wiki.debian.org/HowTo/dnsmasq: add lines interface=eth0 dhcp-range=192.168.0.50,192.168.0.150,255.255.255.0,12h 1.2) Follow http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/rhel-fedora-linux-internet-connection-sharing-howto/ and use their script to setup iptables. 2) Follow the Ubuntu Internet Gateway Method (iptables) at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing recommended and which worked at Share internet in Linux. The Debian laptop was rebooted many times and between each attempt, with and without the script auto-executing via /etc/rc.local. While adding the iptables-restore command to that file I disabled the script.

• How do I deploy a charm from a local repository?

  I am trying to run the Charm tutorial from the juju documentation by creating a new charm from a local repository. I started by installing the charms from bzr to my local ubuntu 12.04 desktop running in a virtual machine. The new file structure is the following: ubuntu@ubuntu-VirtualBox:~$ find charms/precise/drupal/ charms/precise/drupal/ charms/precise/drupal/hooks charms/precise/drupal/hooks/db-relation-changed charms/precise/drupal/hooks/install charms/precise/drupal/hooks/start charms/precise/drupal/hooks/stop charms/precise/drupal/metadata.yml charms/precise/drupal/README When I install the mysql charm, which was downloaded from the remote charm repository, it works fine. • How to safely backup MySQL using VSS-based backup solutions

  One of my clients is running MySQL on a Windows Server 2008 system. Their regular backups are performed using StorageCraft's ShadowCopy, which uses the VSS service to perform backups of open files. Some investigation indicates that MySQL is not entirely VSS-aware, and that the tables need to be locked prior to the shadow operation, then unlocked afterwards. There is a post at http://forum.storagecraft.com/Community/forums/p/548/2702.aspx which indicates the steps that need to be performed, however the user had some difficulty in performing them and no follow up solution was ever posted. Specifically, they succeeded in writing a batch file to lock the database, however once the batch file returns from MySQL it drops the connection and thus relinquishes the lock. I'm looking for a method that I can send the MySQL command FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK, then perform the backup, then send UNLOCK TABLES when the backup is complete. Alternatively, I can exclude the MySQL data storage folder from backup, and schedule a mysqldump backup into a folder that will then be backed up by VSS. Can I have some recommendations please?
