• Issues running java in Solaris 9 container

  Hi, I have a solaris 9 container built from a physical server using flarcreate. Everything seems fine, except when trying to trying to run any "java -server" process it fails with the following error This is on a Sunfire T1000 machine running Solaris 10 10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC Running jdk1.5.0_15 Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested -4 bytes for size_t in /BUILD_AREA/jdk1.5.0_15/hotspot/src/os/solaris/vm/os_solaris.cpp. Out of swap space? As far as I can tell I'm not actually out of swap space. Running java in client mode works without a problem. Googles only suggestion is related to x86. Any suggestions? Thanks.

• gitosis always asks for git password

  I've just followed the simple gitosis install instructions on an Ubuntu server, such as these http://blog.agdunn.net/?p=277 On the server I log in as "mark", and into /home/mark/.ssh/ I copied my keyfiles id_rsa and id_rsa.pub from my laptop. I used that id_rsa.pub when initialising the gitosis stuff, and can happily connect locally when logged in as 'mark'. From my laptop though, where I have the same keys, I can't connect. I just get an error: git clone git@support:gitosis-admin.git Initialized empty Git repository in u:/gitosis-admin/.git fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly The server is Ubuntu 9.04, the client is a Win7 laptop with Cygwin and WinSysGit.

• EPM 11.1.2.2 Architecture: Essbase

  Since a lot of components exist to access or administer Essbase, there are also a couple of client tools available. End users typically use the Excel Add-In or SmartView nowadays. While the Excel Add-In talks to the Essbase server directly using various ports, SmartView connects to Essbase through Provider Services using HTTP protocol. The ability to communicate using a single port is one of the major advantages from SmartView over Excel Add-In. If you consider using Excel Add-In going forward, please make sure you are aware of the Statement of Direction for this component. The Administration Services Console, Integration Services Console and Essbase Studio are clients, which are mainly used by Essbase administrators or application designers. While Integration Services and Essbase Studio are used to setup Essbase applications by loading metadata or simply for data loads, Administration Services are utilized for all kind of Essbase administration. All clients are using only one or two ports to talk to their server counterparts, which makes them work through firewalls easily. Although clients for Provider Services (SmartView) and Administration Services (Administration Services Console) are only using a single port to communicate to their backend services, the backend services itself need the Essbase configured port range to talk to the Essbase server. Any communication to repository databases is done using JDBC connections. Essbase Studio and Integration Services are using different technologies to talk to the Essbase server, Integration Services uses CAPI, Essbase Studio uses JAPI. However, both are using the configured port range on the Essbase server to talk to Essbase. Connections to data sources are either based on ODBC (Integration Service, Essbase) or JDBC (Essbase Studio). As for all other components discussed previously, when setting up firewall rules, be aware of the fact that all services may need to talk to the external authentication sources, this is not only needed for Shared Services.

• How do I configure IIS so my Web.config is determined by URL?

  I am running a test rig with IIS6 serving an ASP.NET (and Sharepoint) web site. We have several clients, and so we have custom root Web.config files for each client. For this test rig, I want to just serve straight from the Trunk of our source control. However, I'd like to be able to select different root Web.config files based on the URL (or port or whatever) I use to access the site, so I can just use one checkout of the source and run all the sites with their appropriate settings. Is this possible?

• Remove SID with ICACLS

  I am trying to remove an obsolete SID (the account was apparently deleted). I've tried to run the following on the server (win2003) and a client (win7): icacls c:\path /remove *S-1-5-21-1883347182-1220252494-433279356-1095 /T But I always get the output Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 0 files without it doing anything. How can I get it to work? Update: I've used AccessEnum to get the SID because icacls only says "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." but doesn't show the sid. • How to share internet over VPN and inside a virtual machine (Windows)?

  ` My final goal is to have a virtual machine at work in which anything that happen inside (tcp, udp, ping, ...) will use the Internet connection of a computer at home. So, if inside this VM should I open an Internet browser to a site such as "show my IP", my home IP should be printed. I am also looking for a way to debug/develop a software inside this VM, but I would like to tunnel only the connections of this software, not the full graphical interface, this is why a Remote Desktop solution won't fit me. The connection between the both computer should be secured somehow, like in a SSH tunnel. This ultimately should allow me to have a portable VM in which I can connect to whatever networks I have access at home, in a secure way. This is my configuration: At work, I have a LAN-connected desktop computer, with Windows 7 Professional Edition as a host [computer W] On this same computer, I have a Virtual Box machine running Windows XP [computer V] At home, I have a laptop computer, running Windows 7 Home Edition [computer H] This laptop is connected to a Livebox 2 broadband modem by Wifi. What I am trying to do is to sit at work in front of the virtual machine [V], and connect to a webpage as if the request was issued from the laptop [H] at home, and the data should be securely tunneled between the both. But if I am using internet directly inside [W], it should use the normal LAN interface at work. To achieve my goal, I first try using VPN, than SSH tunneling, without success. I first tried to install Teamviewer between [W] and [H]. This is working fine, I can send files, share desktop, etc. Teamviewer has a VPN mode that creates a new VPN network interface with its own IP, both on computer [W] and [H]. This allowed me to connect [H] as a network computer inside [W] and I was able to share files, but not to share Internet. At this point, I tried to use from [W] the Internet as if I was at home. I setup a route (using route add from command line in [W]) in order to instruct each packet going to a given website to pass by the new VPN interface on [W], with the hope it will be forwarded to [H], but the webpage was simply inaccessible. I then tried to setup a Windows VPN connection between [W] and [H], using the Windows 7 VPN feature. [H] was the server and [W] the client. But it failed: I got the "Unable to join a remote PC while trying to VPN" 720 Error when I was setting up the client on [W]. I think the problem is the Livebox 2 that could blocks the packets. But I am not sure of this: 1) with Teamviewer it works fine, 2) Livebox 2 has a configuration page for port mapping that gives the proper configuration to map VPN ports as an example so I guess that it should allow it, 3) I opened the ports 1723 (TCP) and 500 (UDP) according to some forums. Virtual box has a network configuration parameter in which I can use the VPN network interface created by Teamviewer as a bridged connection. This is suppose to work in the sense that all packets issued by the virtual machine [V] is supposed to go directly to [H]. But I had no internet connection inside [V]. Using the NAT mode, [V] has internet. For me this is the feature that I look for: filtering all connections from the virtual box application to the VPN network interface, and the remaining should use the normal LAN interface. Apart from the build-in feature of VBox, I even do not know if it is possible to route the packet from a given application to a given interface. Finally I tried also SSH tunneling, but this is not the solution I looked for. Using an external SSH server (Linux), I was able to create a localhost connection on [W] (or [V]), using something like 'ssh -N -D server[H]' in order to allow a web browser located in [W] to connect to any website using the SOCKS 5 proxy created locally (SOCKS is a build-in feature of SSH). But repeating the same operation on windows, using a windows SSH server inside [W] (I tried freeSSHd), it failed: SFTP worked, but not the SOCKS tunneling, it was like the browser in [H] did not find internet. Finally only Teamviewer looked able to create a VPN between [W] and [H], but I am not able to use it, as I want, I mean using the Internet connection of [H] sitting in front of [W]. I also tried to bridge the VPN interface and the wifi interface inside [H], but it blocked my laptop, and I tried also the Internet Connection Sharing, trying to share on [H] the wifi connection over the VPN interface. This fails also, but it seems because Teamviewer actually use the wifi interface to be able to provide the VPN link, so I guess I am creating a recursive loop. I do not know what to try next...   I have a number of secure emails sent to my outlook 2007 client. most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. today i received two that when i try and open them they crash outlook. i have tried restarting outlook and my computer. please can you give me some ideas of what it could be or how i can troubleshoot this issue. i am working on Vista Utlimate x64. thanks. • How to troubleshoot down terminal service/CITRIX sessions, when the process just won't terminate?

  Running a CITRIX presentation server farm, version 4.5.6 on Windows 2003 sp2. In the CITRIX Access Management Console, I sometimes get a session that shows it's in a down state - but has none of the normal info associated with it (user name, applications, client name, idle time, etc...). It does say which servers it's on, so I check out that server's terminal services manager. I can see the down session but cannot reset it. I get: (Error 7024 - the requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset, or delete operation.) So I go to the task manager and look up the processes running under that session id. I see it's one of my published apps, but when I try to end the process - it simply does nothing and the process remains. Any way to get rid of these sessions without a server reboot?

• Deploying in windows 2008 [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How is software deployed via Active Directory? I have trying to deploy a programs, mapped network drives and taks schedule job. I didn't manage to start a script on log on PC until I did it in Default Domain Policy. But when I did that I have installed programs on my server too. And mapped network drives, etc. So I don't know how to manage to do all of that but not to install anything on server over GPO. I still didn't manage to deploy a schedule task job on clients. I manage to put it on server bit not on clients. I need that schedule task because I need to update software on clients every week. I can't manual update flash player, adobe reader, firefox, etc on clients. And People useing client PC even doesn't know how to do it if they have abillity. Clients doesn't have admin rights.

When I login to my office Windows PC using vpn, I would like to connect to this office Linux desktop using VNC Client and be able to see all the Linxu desktop which had my 4 open terminals executing the programs. How to use VNC to view Desktop of Linux PC and all the terminals associated to that which I opened to execute my programs?

• connection refused with nfs server.

  Hi All, I have an issue with NFS. I have two rhel4 servers. sys1 and sys2. I have a directory exported from sys1 and sys2 is the nfs client trying to access the mount. I'm able to mount, but after a certain amount of time I get "RPC: Remote system error: Connection refused." and then I restart nfs services, quotas, deamon, mountd and lockd. Then it works fine again. Any way to fix this. Thanks.

  I'd like to ask if someone of you knows the exact meaning of JEE. That's because a collegue of mine was asked this question in a job interview, and was "unable to answer properly"... to speak with his interwiewer's words. And when he told me what he said to his interviewer I got really surprised, since it was more or less what I would have answered myself - in a concise form, the first paragraph of this article. J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) is a Java platform designed for the mainframe-scale computing typical of large enterprises. Sun Microsystems (together with industry partners such as IBM) designed J2EE to simplify application development in a thin client tiered environment. J2EE simplifies application development and decreases the need for programming and programmer training by creating standardized, reusable modular components and by enabling the tier to handle many aspects of programming automatically. That seems not to be enough, since the interviewer asked for "more precise and less general definition". Is there really a more precise definition for JEE? Or did my colleague just find the fussiest-interviewer-ever? :)

• thunderbird - how to have emails erased automatically removed from gmail?

  I understand that by connecting via imap to my gmail account with thunderbird, whatever i do in thunderbird would be reflected in gmail. Yet, if i delete emails in thunderbird, those emails are still present in gmail, even after a while. I set my account preferences in thunderbird under the option "leave messages on the server?" to: "until i delete them". Did i understood imap wrong, or did i set up something wrong? I would really like to be able to clean up my gmail account via a desktop client, such as thunderbird, as it is much more responsive, and i have 4gb of messages to clean up.

  I'm using mod_rewrite to send requests from the client to a backend server. I've seen in the rewrite log that Apache sets a sid (Session Identifier?) and rid (request identifier?) and shows them in the logs. Would it be possible to send the rid to the backend server as a http header? that way I can link a request in the apache with a request in the backend server.   Last week I had a question here about suexec / suphp but I tried to accomplish too much. I'm going to narrow the scope a bit and try again. I'd like to configure a LAMP server to host multiple clients. I'd like it to seem (from the client's viewpoint) just like any other shared hosting environment. Web sites in their home directory, no need to muck around with file ownerships to get pages served, etc. It would seem that a configuration that involves suexec and suphp is the way to go(?) I'm specifically looking for a current/modern guide on how to accomplish this (I'll be using CentOS if it matters) and I'm afraid I need more than a link to Apache docs. Are there any good How-To's out there? The few I've found have been pretty out of date, but it is quite possible my search was weak.

  I have an SSH+Samba server so people can access its files from anywhere on the network. I thought it would be also interesting to provide access through a web interface, so they can access the files even when they don't have access to the VPN or a Samba/SSH client. Something like the Ubuntu One or Dropbox web interface. The http server could be on the same machine as the SSH+Samba, so it should just provide access to local files and some way to login with their username/password. Someone knows any software like this?

• How to Be a Software Engineer?

  My problem is kind of weird so please bear with me. I have been working in a start up concerned basically with mobile development since my graduation 2 years ago. I develop apps for iOS but it's not really relevant. The start up structure is simply founders developers, with no middle-tier technical supervision or project management whatsoever. A typical project cycle of ours is like this: meet with a client send very vague recruitment to an outsourced graphics designer dig in development right after we get the design, no questions asked then improvise improvise improvise! It's not that we are unaware that stuff like requirements analysis, UML, design patterns, source code control, testing, development methodologies... etc. exist, we just simply don't use them, and I mean like never. The result is usually a clunk of hardly-maintainable yet working code. Despite everything we are literally flourishing with many successful apps on all platforms and bigger clients each project. The thing is, we want the chaos and we're looking for advice. How would you fix our company technically? Given that you can't hire project managers or team leaders just because we are barely 5 developers, so it wouldn't be a justified cost for the founders, but one-time things like courses, books, private training... etc is an option. Lastly, if it's relevant, we are based in Egypt. Thank you a lot in advance.

• NFSv3 Asynchronous Write Depends on Block Size?

  I am trying to figure out if my NFSv3 deployment is performing SAFE asynchronous writes. I suspect that it is doing strictly synchronous writes, as I am getting poor performance in general. I used Wireshark to look at the 'stable' flag in write calls, and look for 'commit' calls. I noticed that, with especially large block sizes, writes to appear to be performed asynchronously: dd if=/dev/zero of=/proj/re3/0/zero bs=2097152 count=512 However, smaller block sizes appear to be performed strictly synchronously: dd if=/dev/zero of=/proj/re3/0/zero bs=8192 count=655360 What gives? How does the client decide whether to tell the server to perform writes synchronously or asynchronously? Is there any way I can get smaller block sizes to be performed asynchronously?

• Recovering OST file without profile

  We have a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and offer this solution to many customers. Recently, a customer had his personal Exchange server crash (which is what made him our customer). He called some technician to see if he could repair his server before calling us, but this said tech wasn't able to do anything for them. Now that all his mailbox are on our server, he would like to transfer his old emails over to the new profile, but the tech deleted all profiles on the client machines while trying to repair his Exchange server. So my customer still has the OST files but they are not related to any profiles. Is there any way to re-attach them to a profile, or to convert them into PST files that he could then import into his new profile? The only thing I found were third party software that could to the conversion, but I am wondering if Microsoft has any tools that could re-attach the OST to a new profile. I have also tried the scanpst.exe and scanost.exe to no avail. Thank you

  Hi All, Does anyone experience this problem of corrupted .WAR file after it has been copied over the network share ? this is .WAR file (Web Archive) the J2EE application file (.WAR file is compressed with the same zip algorithm i think ?) Scenario 1: Windows Server 2008 x64 transfer into Windows XP using RDP client (Local Devices and Resources) Scenario 2: Windows XP 32 bit transfer into Windows Server 2003 x64 using shared network drive (port 445 SMB ?) for both of the scenario it always failed / corrupted (the source code seems to be duplicated at the end of line when you open up in the Eclipse / Java IDE). but when in both scenario i compressed the file into .ZIP file everything is OK. can anyone explains why this problem happens ?
