  Hi Team, I have an interesting database design problem that I formulated while travelling by a bus, coming back from my home. Design a normalized database for a bus ticketing system (not reservation system). In each trip, the conductor of the bus will give tickets to its passengers after collecting fare from them. Passengers travel from a various source places to various destination places. The system must be able to give a report of the places for which the number of passengers was more than 2. Suppose the stops for the bus are L1,L2, L3 and L4 Suppose passenger P1 travels from L1 to L4. P2 travels from L2 to L4. P3 travels from L3 to L4. The report should list only (L3-L4) for which it has more than 2 travelers. Can you please help me to solve the following problems 1) Design a normalized database 2) Write a query for the report 3) Is there any site that gives these kinds of interesting database design questions and answers? • Is there a way to highlight specific words or numbers without inserting a span tag?

  I've got blocks of text with various specs in them and want to have jquery highlight whatever matches a specific pattern without inserting any extra html. The following is the kind of text that I've got to work with. Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 920 (2.66GHz, 8MB cache, 4.8GT/sec)/ Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English/ 640 GB Serial ATA non Raid (7200 Rpm)/ 6GB 1333MHz (3x2GB) Tri Channel Memory/ Display Not Included/ 16X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write)/ 1.8GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260 graphics card/ Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital Audio What I'm hoping jquery can do is highlight some of the basic specs without inserting any extra html. Maybe working off a list of values matching the spec format using some wildcards where neededed? The css to select the correct tag is #list div div div+p or I could just give the p class but would rather not. Is this kind of thing possible?

• How can I get reason of page unloading in javascript's onunload event, in IE?

  There may be different reasons of page unloading: 1 User closes the current window. 2 User navigates to another location. 3 Clicks the Back, Forward, Refresh, or Home button. 4 User submits a form, and then browser starts to unload current page and load page with results of form submitting. (Assuming that the current window is the form's target). 5 and so on... Can I somehow know in onunload handler that the reason of unloading is p.4, i.e. moving to page with results of form submitting? I could define some flag when submiting form, but this does not solve the problem. Because response (on form submit) from web server takes some time, browser doesn't unload the current page immediately and waits response from server. And during this waiting user may close window or navigate anywhere. And I need to know whether was it indeed moving to results page or something else...?

  We are planning to create a new sub-site within our company's intranet site. The intranet is built on SharePoint 2007. My question is this: Suppose I want to add a 3rd-party weather web part to the home page of my new intranet site. Since the new site uses HTTPS, do I need to make sure to find an HTTPS-compliant web part? If I use a standard web part, will users get a "This page contains both secure and non-secure items" error message when they load the page? Thanks in advance!

• Multimap Space Issue: Guava

  In my Java code, I am using Guavas Multimap (com.google.common.collect.Multimap) by using this: Multimap< Integer, Integer Index = HashMultimap.create() Here, Multimap key is some portion of URL and value is another portion of URL (converted into integer). Now, I assign my JVM 2560 Mb (2.5 GB) heap space (by using Xmx and Xms). However, it can only store 9 millions of such (key,value) pairs of integers (approx 10 million). But, theoretically (according to memory occupied by int) it should store more. Can anybody help me, 1) Why is this happening (means Multimap is taking lots of space) ? I checked my code with out inserting pairs in Multimap, it takes only 1/2 MB space. 2) Is there any other way or home-baked solution to solve this space issue ? More clearly, how to solve this memory issue ? Thanks in advance and any idea is perfectly OK for me.

  I was told last night that the following isn't allowed in CSS. <a href="index.php"><div class="button">Home</div></a> .submenu div.button{width:72px; height:20px; float:left; margin:0 20px; font-size:0.9em; font-family:Arial; padding:2px; color:black;} How can i create the look I want for the button and then allow the user to click on it in any other way? What is the best way to do this? It works as it is, but I am being told it's not complient.

• Non-object when adding code into html

  Hello. I am getting the following error: Fatal error: Call to a member function error() on a non-object in /home/gamepla3/public_html/football/result.php on line 177 The line for this is <?php echo $form->error("homescore"); ?> I'm failing to see how this could be the case? The thing worked fine before I added working code into my html document so it looked better. Now I can't get it working?? EDIT. When the code is not within HTML, it works fine. Once I have it within the HTML, it throws back an error? Has anyone seen anything like this before?

  For example, In an ActivityA there's a button to create an Intent that will start ActivityB in a new task, like this: Intent i = new Intent(this, ActivityB.class); i.setData(Uri.parse("http://www.google.com")); long timestamp = System.currentTimeMillis(); i.putExtra("ts", timestamp); i.addFlag(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Log.d(TAG, "Sending: " + timestamp); startActivity(i); Then in ActivityB's onResume() method, there's this code to check the timestamp: long timestamp = getIntent().getExtras().getLong("ts"); Log.d(TAG, "Receiving: " + timestamp); Now the first time I invoke ActivityB from ActivityA I get the following logs: Sending: 120006000 Receiving: 120006000 Then if I left ActivityB running in the background (by pressing Home button), and start ActivityA then invoke ActivityB again, the following is printed: Sending: 120013000 Receiving: 120006000 It seems although ActivityB is brought to front by the new Intent. The extra field in the intent is being left behind. Is this a bug or an intended behavior?

So, as it says to do in the documentation, I've added this code in my config/routes.rb file: resources :dimensions do collection do get "search" end end I've also defined in the dimensions_controller file: def search @dimensions = Dimension.all respond_to do |format| format.html # search.html.erb format.json { render json: @dimensions } end end I then stopped and restarted the rails server, but when I navigate to /dimensions/home, I'm still getting this error message: Couldn't find Dimension with id=search Also showing that my parameter is: {"id"=>"search"} So am I just missing another bit of code that gives the instruction to interpret /dimension/search as a collection action as opposed to the show action? • Hudson + gitolite + virtual host on staging server

  I have a Ubuntu server which I want to be my continous integration server (for the Zend Application based projects) and the staging server as well. The team is pushing source files to the repository: /home/git/repositories/testing.git Then Hudson does the build, and the master branch is exported (maybe cloned is a better word) by git hudson plugin to: /var/lib/hudson/jobs/test/workspace/ The workspace contains .git folder as well, which is not necessary on my staging website. How do you set up virtual host to see the staging version of the content of the repository? Does the virtual host point to the workspace, or shall I export the files to another directory? What about the permissions and security? Hudson is the owner of all the workspace files. Do I have to do some post-build actions to set up access? P.S. If this question is more apropriate to serverfault, please migrate.

• SVN update returns nothing, while it should

  Hi everyone, First some background information; I've set up my SVN repository on my local server at home using VisualSVN Server. Using SSH on (or via php/shell script), i am able to check out a folder from this repository to the webserver, all goes well. Also updates and other svn commands execute normaly and return their messages. Now comes the problem, and I'm struggling with this for a few days now. Before I execute the checkout command *svn co http://server_home/folder*, I want to make sure no conflicts are going to happen, so I execute *svn status [folder_on_webserver]*. But this doesn't return the result as expected, it returns nothing. When I execute * svn status --show-updates [folder_on_webserver]* it returns the following: * newfolder * 13 anotherfolder * 13 yetanotherfolder * 13 . Status against revision: 16 As you can see it misses the svn codes (A,U,D). Does somebody knows why the svn update command and the svn codes doesnt work?

• Which technology(s) / language(s) to write linux web application/service? [closed]

  I am currently playing with some open source home automation software www.domotiga.nl The software is built in Gambas2 (a graphical programming language similar to visual basic). I am considering building something similar or porting domotiga to a server based application/service. The application would need a web front end and i will likely be developing in debian (arm). But i'm not sure if php or python are suitable for server based applications which need to be always running (collecting data etc) rather than just running when accessed. Which technology(s) / language(s) would you suggest i look into? I used to do a lot of Visual Basic, then VB.NET, now C# and have played with php a few years back- but don't really want this to sway the decision too much as i should be able to pickup whatever language if i decide to proceed.

• Handling static files with Django / lighttpd

  I know that there is already a question (actually some more) about this, but the answers to them didn't help me out very much, as I am pretty new to lighttpd. I have one folder which contains .pdf-files. When doing a HttpResponseRedirect to the locations of one of those .pdf-files, the user should be able to download the .pdf file (or view it in the browser). Right now, Django just redirects to my "home" html page, without showing any pdf-file. Somehow, I will have to tell lighttpd that Django shouldn't handle this directory anymore. Is this the only thing I need to do? If yes, how should i do it?

• PHP: Mapped Network Drives

  Hello all, I have mapped a network drive to a computer in my home network. Now I am trying to access it via PHP - I did this quick test: echo opendir('Z:\\'); This gives me: Warning: opendir(Z:\) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No error in C:\wamp\www\webs\tester-function.php on line 3 What have I done wrong here? I don't want my users typing in the UNC path so is there a way to get the UNC path for them and maybe that will work when I try to access it? This is possible in Microsoft languages but I am not sure how to get PHP to do this - maybe using a cmd.exe command? Please note, the mapped drive does exist as I can see it and I can access it. It also does not appear to be a permissions problem as I am assuming it would of complained about this IF it could access that drive...right? Thanks all for any help

• How do you set a cookie to be accessible across the entire domain in Javascript

  I suppose there should be a way to set a cookie to be accessible from the entire domain nevermind from which directory you are setting the cookie. Say in mypage.com/blue/index.php y set the cookie "colour=blue;" this way: document.cookie = "colour" + "=" + "blue" + "; expires=" + expireDate.toGMTString() + "; path=/"; Using this code, the cookie retrieval function in mypage.com/home.php can't access the content of the cookie. If it was just from first level directories that the cookie needs to be set, we would be ok by doing path=../ instead of path=/ But how do you go about writing generic code that sets a cookie that is accessible from any page in that domain not minding how deep in the file structure is the page the cookie is being set from?

• Why are items being placed below?

  This is really confusing and I have never had this occur. For my computer, it is fine. But for anyone else's computer I have tried, it screws up. So on my site, designatease.com , the second bar down, it places the fifth item down below the first four. I am not sure why it is doing this. I want them to span across the bar but the stop at about half way. Help me out SOF. • How do I debug my emacs crash on Windows?

  I use emacs on windows (at work) and on linux (at home). On the windows machine, I'm using emacs 23.1 (from here: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/windows/emacs-23.1-bin-i386.zip). It just crashed right now. Recently, I've taken a healthy interest in debugging on windows (using WinDbg), so I really want to try my hand at this ready-made crash :) Can someone tell me where (or if at all) I can get the symbol files (.pdb) for emacs for windows? On linux, I compile my emacs from source so symbols aren't really a problem...

• How do I get the current Application Name (in terms of IIS) in a classic asp Web application

  I have a classic asp application which retrieves the current application name and sets an Application variable containing that name. This name is important (I wont go into why) and is essentially the friendly name in IIS. The problem is, the implementation used to get this name is flawed, it a) assumes the home directory contains the string wwwroot, and b) assumes the folder name is the same as the application name. I can no longer guarantee these conditions. I would have thought the application name is know at run-time but I can't seem to find it in either Session or Application variables (at application start up entry point in global.asa). Any ideas?

• root path for multiple controllers on rails routes

  I have two resource controllers where I am using a slug to represent the ID. (friendly_id gem). I am able to have the show path for one resource on the route but not for two at the same time. ie. root :to => 'home#index' match '/:id' => "properties#show" match '/:id' => "contents#show" Basically I want urls like, # Content domain.com/about-us domain.com/terms # Property domain.com/unique-property-name domain.com/another-unique-property-name Whatever resource I put on top works. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advace if you can help.

• Web and stand-alone apps development tendency

  There is a strong tendency of making web apps and even seems that very soon a lot of features will be available online so that for every day use people will have all necessary software free online and they will not need to install any software locally. Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? Please do not consider this question not connected with programming, as I really would like to have a little statistics from professional programmers who are aware from nowday’s tendency of software and programming. However on my host's apache 1.3.41 server, I get the following error: [Sat Mar 5 21:42:14 2011] [alert] [client [ip]] /home/_/public_html/mysite.com/.htaccess: RewriteRule: cannot compile regular expression '^/?([^/]+?)?/?([0-9]+?)/([0-9]+?)$'\n I imagine it's something quirky about the apache version as other sites on this host use mod_rewrite without a hitch. I've tried removing the +followSymlinks line, even the rewrite engine line. I haven't tried removing the conditions cause I don't think I should have to, I'm probably wrong.
