• Keyboard glitches for some when Ctrl key is pressed

  I'm having some problems with my keyboard, if I press the Ctrl key it glitches for some time. For example, if I press Ctrl and press Tab while it's still glitched the computer shuts down as if i pressed the Power On/Off button. If I press a it "presses" Alt, A and a symbol I can't remember, if I recall correctly it's a currency symbol. If I press Ctrl again it "presses" the ' key. I'm using Windows 8 Single Language 64 bits with a ABNT2 keyboard. The processor is a Intel Celeron G530 with 2 GB of RAM.

  Hi Is there a proxy software for Windows XP that can support HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, IMAP, POP, FTP, etc. (the more the better)? We tried apache mod_proxy but FTP doesn't work through it (at least not all features). Maybe we don't need proxy server for following requirements (we are open for suggestions): - Centralized access point to internet for several users (proxy server?) - Users use Browser (firefox/IE - HTTP, HTTPS), Outlook (SMTP, POP, IMAP) - Logs to see where did users go on internet - Possiblity to connect to FTP server Windows xp, which is used as proxy server, is a virtual machine, and all other users/clients are virtual machines as well (Hyper-V)... • Giving SSH access to a user, and security issues.

  Okay, so I have a VPS and I made an account for a friend so he can host his own domains (using the reseller features in DirectAdmin). He's asking for SSH access, and I know that this is probably a bad idea. Does he have access to my whole server, such as executing commands, accessing my domains that I host on my server? I logged into my SSH using his account details and it let me navigate around all of the root folders/files, and his account is under /home/AccountName/. Is there anyway to restrict his access to his folder only? And the commands he can use?

• How can I offer 2.4 ghz wi-fi in a building with strong interference?

  I have a few access points on one floor of a high-rise building. They support both 2.4 ghz and 5ghz. When I used 2.4 ghz, the channel management features did not seem to work and we experienced frequent problems. When I switched to 5 ghz the problems went away. However, the 5ghz standard is much less accepted. And when clients come in, they want 2.4ghz. What can I do? How can I offer 2.4ghz wi-fi in an area with a lot of interference?

• Suggestions for hosted file sharing services

  Before I pose my question, I will give some insight as per my scenario: I work for a small business (cost is an important factor) Our bandwidth is limited and would not support an in-house FTP server We need to share files (mostly pdf, inDesign, Illustrator documents) to our clients, and as we expand, we are finding that our current locally-hosted FTP solution is too slow and is becoming a detriment to our sales team. What we need is a remotely hosted solution to share files with our clients, specifically with the following features: Greater than 100gb of secure storage The Ability to distribute unique log in credentials to clients, granting access to a personalized directory or folder, while limiting access to other files on the server. A relatively simple web-based UI for clients with limited computer knowledge We have considered a dedicated remote server, and web-based services (box.net, yousendit.com, onehub.com, filesanywhere.com) but I am unsure as per the direction we should be taking - have I left another solution out? • New Vaio laptop, performing a fresh install

  I just purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop (z-series) but being a bit of a power user I really want to get rid of the software which is installed on it. I can go through the Programs and Features and manually select each item I want to get rid of, but it's a really tedious process. I'd much prefer to have a clean Windows install which I can then tweak from the get go. But it doesn't appear that I received a Windows 7 install disc (I bought it through a large reseller so it isn't dodgy as far as I know). I do have the Windows 7 licence key on my laptop underside, will this be valid if I use a Windows 7 install disc from work? Or should I have the Windows 7 disk and I need to go back to the reseller?

• OpenOffice - alternative paragraphs (two PDFs, one source)

  I use OpenOffice to produce a document in PDF format. This document is occasionally revised and reissued. I now need to produce a variant of this document with a small number of paragraphs replaced by other paragraphs. I would prefer to avoid maintaining two separate documents where 95% of the text is the same. In other words, from one ODT file I would like to be able to produce two PDFs with slighly differing content. Are there some OpenOffice features I could use that would help with this?

• Help recovering lost text from a refreshed Chrome webpage (it was in the clipboard as well)? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Chrome: where is the location to save browse temporary files Ok, so here's what happened - and yes, it was pretty stupid by me: I wrote up and submitted a post on Stack Overflow It was not suited to be placed on Stack Overflow as someone pointed out to me, so I deleted the post (this was a few hours ago) I copied the text into a new question page on Super User, but didn't submit it yet I accidentally just refreshed the webpage that had the text, and the question has now been deleted from Stack Overflow I have Lazarus installed, however the Chrome version doesn't have many features and the text was not recoverable from there. I do not have a clipboard manager, but the text was copied to my clipboard - so is there any way to get this back (Windows 7)? Although the post on Stack Overflow was deleted, I suppose it would have existed in my cache - could I recover it from there? Would the post on Stack Overflow exist in an rss feed anywhere? Many thanks, and I hope I can find this - and I am sure that the solution will prove valuable for me (and others) in the not too distant future once again.

• Binding backward-kill-word to Ctrl+w

  I'm trying to switch from prolonged use of Tcsh to recent exploration of Bash. I've managed to port over all my favorite features, except for Ctrl+w which treats spaces and slashes as word boundaries, most likely backward-kill-word. In Bash however readline deletes all the way to the first space, deleting all slashes between. I've tried many various combinations of \C-w: backward-kill-word in both .inputrc and .bashrc using bind but I can't get it to work the way I want. Funny enough, through Putty from Windows at work I can use Alt+Backspace, which also the manual says is the default binding, to produce the exact behavior I want. But in Terminal.app on my Macs at home this does not work. Same goes for any FreeBSD or Linux server I happen to be logged into from Terminal.app. So I turn to superuser for help.

• How to activate Windows 8 Pro license with Releae Preview installed?

  So I'm one of the many who downloaded the Release Preview (64-bit). I now got the ISO to install Windows 8 Professional (64-bit) and a product key (note: I didn't get these from either Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or Microsoft's web Store), everything legal. However, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant only gives me the option to Store my personal files which means that I'll have to say goodbye to both my Program Files and their respective configurations. I just want to input the Product Key and activate the license, why isn't this possible? Even "Add Features to Windows 8" doesn't accept the key. Do I really need to backup all of my stuff and make a clean install?

• Windows 7 Explorer - Activate mouse focus to be able to scroll in tree and file view?

  I'd like to be able to scroll in the tree view without having to click in it. Is there a way to do this? I have once used a tool that generally gives focus to the window underneath the mouse cursor, but this caused some other glitches so I would like to achieve this without an extra tool. I also think that there are programs that embed the Windows Explorer and offer more features, including the behaviour I would like to have. But maybe a registry value change is all that is needed?

  I love AutuCAD. It's powerful, easy to use, and fits engineering mind. It rocks when you want to draw 2D diagrams and shapes and one the cool features I like about it, is its snapping power. You draw a simple rectangle, then you can very easily create a circumscribe circle around it. However, new version of it are becoming really heavy (in size) and need high tech hardware, because of its powerful 3D capabilities, and rendering engines coming with it. I only want the 2D part of AutoCAD. Is there any software out there, which resembles AutoCAD (like having a console, where you can type L and get the line tool, or having snapping capability, etc.), but is small in size? In other words, what software can be named as AutoCAD 2D alternative?

• Formula in table header cells

  I have a table in Excel 2007 that I want to summarise, in a similar fashion to a Pivot Table, but for various reasons I can't use a pivot table. I like the "Format as table" features of sort and filter buttons, automatic formatting etc, so have used that to create a simple table: A B C N +-----------+------------+------------+-------+------------+ 1 | | 01/01/2010 | 01/02/2010 | ... | 01/12/2010 | +-----------+------------+------------+-------+------------+ 2 | CategoryA | 15 | 545 | | 634 | 3 | CategoryB | 32 | 332 | | 231 | 4 | CategoryC | 5 | 234 | | 644 | | ... | | | | | 27 | CategoryZ | 2 | 123 | | 64 | +-----------+------------+------------+-------+------------+ The numbers are retrieved from a "back-end" pivot table using GETPIVOTDATA(). All that works fine. Now, the problem is that I can't seem to use formulas for my column headings in these new "smart" tables - they are converted to text or just broken. For example if in B1 I put NOW(), I don't get the date, I get 00/01/1900. Is there any way of getting a formula to work in the auto tables? Or do I have to use standard tables and manually alternate-colour my rows etc?

• Preventing apps to access info from wifi device?

  Browsers like Chrome and Firefox can use my wifi device to get information about the surrounded APs and pin point my physical location using Google Location Services, I know these browser always ask for permissions to do this, and that these features can also be "turned off". But I was wondering if there's a better way to prevent ANY application to access this information from my wifi device. I don't like anyone on the internet knowing where I live, and I am worried some software could do the same as these browsers but without asking for permissions. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.

• Script for creating directories and subdirectories on SBS 2008

  I have a small business server 2008 and have a directory named LAWFILES. I have a 6 digit file system (eg 106568) and I create a directory to store anything to do with the file (documents, outlook emails, PDFs, WAV files, ect.) I group 100 files in a 4 digit directory (eg 1065) for quicker access. My new years resolution is to organize these directories. I used to have a script the batch created directories and sub directories but it didn't work the last time I tried it (2 years ago). I would like to run a batch file that would ask for the 4 digit directory name (eg 1065) and then create that directory and 100 subdirectories (106500 - 106599) each of which contained subdirectories named "Documents," "Correspondence" & "Email-Voicemail" Can anyone suggest where I would go to find a scripting language that would be available to accomplish this? I am using snapshots for the backups but they are stored on local hard drive. I need a better backup scenario where I can recover in the event of a harddrive failure. • Windows 2012 remote access can't connect

  I have installed Windows Server 2012 for about 9 months ago. Earlier I could connect to my server with an external IP perfectly, but the license for the remote desktop services has ended. First, I thought it was the reason, why I couldn't use my server as RDP-server, to which users may connect. But, than in web I read, that it's possible to use windows native features, just to remove the RDP services, which are trial and the server will work as RDP-server, but with some limitations ( for e.g. such free RDP service may accept only 1 connection and other connection will be disconnected etc ). Is it true, that it's possible? If yes, please give a piece of advice, how should I repair it. Because I don't want to use TightVNC or other stuff. Thanks!

• Encrypted TrueCrypt volume in file with decoy content?

  I've been reading about the encryption features of TrueCrypt, including the feature to have an encrypted volume inside a file with any name. For example, I can create an encrypted volume inside a file named music.mp3. However, the file won't really play when I try to open it in a music player. Is there a way to add "decoy" content to music.mp3 so that someone who doesn't know its got encrypted content can double click on it and music will play? Obviously it doesn't have to be music, but also images, decoy test document, etc. etc.

• IE Search Provider: Specifying gTLD / Country-Specific Site

  I am based in the UK, and as such typically use google.co.uk as my search engine. However, my employer is based in continental Europe, and thus my internet proxy is located overseas. As a result, IP geo-location presents a location outside of the UK. Google detects this, and as a result will redirect my searches from the address bar to a foreign Google domain. This leads to "local" answers having a higher ranking, many of which are not written in English language! Is there a specific search provider / URL I can give to IE which will use a specific gTLD of google (.co.uk), rather than performing the location-based redirect?

• List processes with their launching command line

  I'm looking for a Windows feature or third-party tool that can produce a list of active processes (as in the task manager) with the command line used to start each process. e.g. if I launch "php.exe -q script.php" in a command line, during the execution of my process, I'd like to see this command in the list and not only "php.exe" Tasklist, process explorer, taskinfo... can't give this information and/or make it available in a text format. • How to keep memory consumption below 500 MB or less than 25 processes at background on netbook?

  I bought a netbook yesterday, (I'm loving it) but I will never understand why they need to be a lot of processes running on background. I worry about other users who have no idea about it and continue using their computers with occasional choppiness due to 70 processes on background occupying most of the memory I'd like to keep my memory consumption below 500MB (I have 1 GB) is this possible? What are your ideas for this to work? I always run Microsoft Security Essentials at startup and real time protection, how many features can I disable to reach my goal memory usage?

• Restrict second screen to certain window/application

  I have a system with two screens. On the primary screen, I want to use Windows in a normal way. On the secondary screen, I want to display a window of a certain application and nothing else. In no case should anything else than this specific window show up on the secondary screen: no other applications, no dialog boxes. If possible, I want to restrict the mouse pointer to the primary screen as well. I tried UltraMon, but I think my requirements go beyond its features. Any ideas?

• Login-time quota for VPN users

  I have configured Routing and Remote Access Service in Windows Server 2003 as the VPN server. VPN users are defined in Active Directory which is running on this server too. How i can configure the server to give each user a limited download size (for example 1GB) and does not authenticate them when they exceeds their download quota. The VPN server should also disconnect the users that reach their quota. Update: Apparently a third-party RADIUS server could provide this feature. One solution I have found is TekRADIUS but it is commercial. FreeRADIUS is a open-source free RADIUS server but I am not sure if it could these kind of features.

Since Exchange is getting more and more of a monster to maintain and is basically the only thing running on a Windows VM Server, I'm looking for an alternative with the following properties: Server based back-end that that can be installed / deployed on my machine and is not dependent on any third party services (e.g. Google Calendar). (Easy) import of existing Outlook calendars, either via some feature of Exchange or by ex- and importing from Outlook. Roughly the basic features of the Outlook calendar (categorizations, series, etc) Synchronization with the iPhone over wireless without a hitch (e.g. double or missing entries) Any recommendations?
