• Access to CD/DVD Drive is Denied through Windows 7 Explorer (Permission Problem)

  A while ago I started having trouble with my optical drives. Both of them keep showing up in Explorer as CD/DVD drives on boot, but as soon as I put a disc in either one, it suddenly turns into a hard-drive—“local disk” is displayed in the Type column, though the File System column remains UDF/CDFS. (I though that maybe it was a permission issue on the registry key in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet..., but I’m not so certain because of the next test.) When I try to open a disc (of any type), I get an access denied error message. If I open an elevated command-prompt, I am able to access the files. Also, if I kill Explorer and run it from an elevated command-prompt (thus giving Explorer elevated permissions), then I can access the files from Explorer. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the devices without success. The security dialog indicates that there are none set for the drives (no owner and no permissions). I tried setting the owner, but am only able to do so if there is a disc in it (it complains if it is empty), but the settings do not stick (if I immediately open the security dialog after setting it, it is empty again). I tried setting permissions, but that gives an error. I’ve included a screencap-flowchart of the security dialog of one of the drives below. (Yes, I made sure that there are no upper- or lower-filters, and yes, I ran sfc. I also made sure that in the policy editor, “devices: restrict CD-ROM...” is not set.) Does anyone know what the owner and permissions are supposed to be for optical drives and how to reset them?

• Changing the View of a Folder When It Is Opened from Finder

  When I was running OS 10.4 I had all my folders beautifully organized with position and which ones should be opened in View mode and which one in Icon, etc. When I transitioned to 10.6 I found that OS ignored all that information and imposes an awful consequence of changing the view for some folder and that view moving up to all parent folders which don't have their views locked. The only way I can think of to get this functionality back is to either write a program that given a root directory will enumerate it setting the views based upon a static template I have. The other way I thought I could accomplish this is by Folder Actions. Aside from the fact that I don't know AppleScript it seems folder actions cannot be inherited. Since I have 1000s of folders involved here, all being inherited from a single root, I could not possibly manually add that action to each of those folders. What I would like to have is a folder action that whenever I open the folder from Finder, then if it contains any JPG, GIF, etc. type image files that it will automatically open that folder with a view of Icon with a reasonable size to support the number of images. If the folder contains only folders, then to open that folder in the list view. Does anyone have anything that could do this for me? Thank You, -- Mark

• Second CPU missing of Dual Core

  My Lenovo T61 has a dual core CPU. I just noticed that under Ubuntu 10.10 only one CPU is recognized. I know that once both CPUs worked. Not sure since when the second CPU is missing. Maybe since the last kernel update. Currently I am using linux-image-2.6.35-23-generic (for x86_64). What can I do to enable the second CPU again? • Exchange Full Access issue

  I was just hired as a System Admin for a small company. They use Exchange 2010 for their Mail Server. I've never had a permission issue like this with Exchange because I worked for a larger firm with less responsibility before. Their old system admin is LONG GONE, so I can't ask him what he did. The issue: Right now ANYONE can gain access to a mailbox and view the mail in the mailbox. This is disabled by default you say and you have to grant them full access ? You are right, but the old System Admin I guess didn't know what he was doing. SO right now user A can open up user B mailbox with out being granted permission. So here is what I found out. Every user in EMC Full Access Permission has Exchange Server group granted. Within the Exchange Server Group, Domain User's is a Member Of. Within Domain User's all user's are listed as Members. So my guess is because of this all users can access ANY mailbox? Well GOOD News. The company is small (35 people) and they are not computer savvy, so hopefully no one has figured out they can open anyone's mailbox.(From what I can tell no). Next thing I did was with my domain user in EMC, delete Exchange Servers Group in FUll Access Permissions and grant access to my user. I made sure that my memeber was apart of the Exchange Server Group. Went to our OWA site and now I don't have permission to my own mailbox. Re did everything to the way it was with my user and now I'm stuck. Any help? I would think granting a single user that is in the Exchange Server group, Full Access to that mailbox would enable them to open that mailbox???? I guess I am wrong.

• No access to Windows 2003 admin shares

  This is the environment: Several Win 2003 SP 2 servers and several Win XP SP2 & SP3 clients. All in the same LAN. Firewall is disabled everywhere. No recent Windows updates or configuration changes. This is the problem: Since last Thursday, I log on to any other server or workstation as any regular (non-admin) user and I fail to be able to open ADMIN SHARES ONLY (namely \\server1\c$, \\server1\e$ and \\server1\admin$). The error message is: "\server1\c$ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." I can, however, open the same shares if I use FQDN or IP address: \\server1.domain.local\c$ \\172.0.0.1\c$ Other shares do not have this issue and I can open them without any issue. Any ideas or suggestion would be truly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

• Applications are being opened by IE instead of running normally

  I rewrote the Question to add everything that i tried so far. Many of my applications are being opened by Internet Explorer. (not all) For example when I run Firefox.exe (from shortcut) I get IE run instead, with the following URL http: // %22d/ Browser/firefox.exe%22 (I added spaces to prevent link creation) the shortcut target is: "D:\Browser\firefox.exe" when I attempted to open firefox.exe from it's folder the results were the same as the previous one I attempted to open it by cmd, so i navigated with cmd to the FF path then wrote: firefox.exe the was the same except that the URL was: http: // Firefox.exe/ when i jsut write firefox the result URL was: http: // Firefox/ (is it some kind of parameter or something??) trying the same with chrome resulted the same results as the previous tests. I tried creating a new user (adminstartor) but the problem still there. I tried every registry key with exe on it (not sure if i tried them all) no change I tried removing IE but came back by itself somehow, meanwhile IE is removed, FF and its fellow apps gave me open with window I tried reinstalling the applications but it just no use. Time Line: (as requested from @Daredev) I don't know when it happened because the computer is for the company i work for and it was like that since i got it. (The IT there gave up on the problem lon time ago!). applications were installed already are "firefox" and "XPS viewer" . applications were working after the problem everything except what uses browsing (MS help viewer, XPS viewer, firefox-even I've re installed it-, opera, chrome) that what I thought but after installing Maxthon , comodoDragon this theory was blown away. system info: 1- windows xp professional service pack 3 2- system fully patched: Yes 3- anti-virus up to date: Yes 4- same behavior when booting into safe mode: Yes

• Windows 7 - "Magic" frequent folder

  Every week, I export an mp3 file from audacity into a folder with that day's date (e.g. this past sunday I exported the file to a folder named 20130609). Then I close everything and that's it for a while. Then, I come back a few hours later to upload the file to ftp. I usually have some folders open, so to open a new one, I right click on the folder icon on the taskbar... to open a new folder window and browse to this folder I just created, right? Well I look up a little bit and: So I click it and upload the file, and it actually saves me 30 seconds, which is really awesome... but what in the world? It happens every single week without fail. I create the folder inside the audacity export window. The folder stays on the frequent list until I create a new folder the following week. This was definitely not an advertised feature of Windows 7, and it's extremely handy... but it really just seems like magic to me. How does it work?

• IE8 page reload hangs

  When a 7mb HTM file is first opened (by clicking on the file icon or using Open With), both IE8 and Firefox display this browser file quickly. After the file is closed, Firefox will reopen this file quickly, but IE8 appears to hang during the reopen. Clearing the IE cache does not help. However, IE will reopen the file quickly again only if the File/Open/Browse feature of the menu bar is used (clicking on the file icon can be used only once between computer reboots). Testing suggests that the problem relates to the number of HTML hyperlinks pointing to another part of the file. There are many hyperlinks, but they are not a problem during the first load of the document (between computer reboots). What needs to be fixed to avoid use of the workaround? Using Windows XP SP3 Update 6/23/12 - Controlled testing shows that the number of hyperlinks is not the problem. The way this large file is opened is the difference: 1) from the IE menu bar, File/Open/Browse is consistent and fast (but not as fast as FF). 2) clicking on the file name in the folder (even when IE is the default program for this file type) causes a much delayed load of the file. Creating a smaller file demonstrates the delayed load, but verifies that the load eventually occurs.

• Mac OS X: Applications not responding

  This happens to me several times a day. I'll quit an app, the window will close, but the app won't finish shutting down. It stays open in the dock, and right clicking and force quit show not responding. Force quit won't work. I can't shut the app down. Starting any other app when this happens causes that app to behave in exactly the same way: the icon opens in the dock, but the app is non-responsive and can't be forced to quit. Can't access terminal when this happens, because it locks up just like all the apps. While I haven't tried to open every app, I think any app I try to open when this is happening will lock up. If I relaunch Finder, it too locks up and then the only thing left is to hold down the power button for a hard reboot. Any app that is running while this is happening will continue to run normally unless I try to shut it down. Repairing disk permissions has no effect. I also did a time machine and a full restore on a brand new MbP - and sure enough, after restore, the new MbP suffers form the same problem. Creating a new user has no effect. Any thoughts? Please help MacBook Pro 15" AG 2.53ghz i5 cpu 8gb RAM 500gb HD (over 200gb free)

• A class meant for an alfresco behavior and its bean, how do they work and how are they deployed trough eclipse

  (This is a partial repost of a question asked 10 days ago because only 1 part was answered(not included), I've rewritten it into a way better question and added 3 more tags) where do I put the DeleteAsset.class or why isn't it being found? I've put the compiled class from the bin of the workspace of eclipse into alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/com/openerp/behavior/ and right now it's giving me Error loading class [com.openerp.behavior.DeleteAsset] for bean with name 'deletionBehavior' defined in URL [file:/home/openerp/alfresco-4.2.c/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/cust??om-web-context.xml]: problem with class file or dependent class; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/openerp/behavior/DeleteAsset (wrong name: DeleteAsset) when I put it in there. • MVC2 EditorTemplate for DropDownList

  I've spent the majority of the past week knee deep in the new templating functionality baked into MVC2. I had a hard time trying to get a DropDownList template working. The biggest problem I've been working to solve is how to get the source data for the drop down list to the template. I saw a lot of examples where you can put the source data in the ViewData dictionary (ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"]) then retrieve them in the template itself (var sourceValues = ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"];) This works, but I did not like having a silly string as the lynch pin for making this work. Below is an approach I've come up with and wanted to get opinions on this approach: here are my design goals: The view model should contain the source data for the drop down list Limit Silly Strings Not use ViewData dictionary Controller is responsible for filling the property with the source data for the drop down list Here's my View Model: public class CustomerViewModel { [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public String CustomerCode{ get; set; } [UIHint("DropDownList")] [DropDownList(DropDownListTargetProperty = "CustomerCode"] [DisplayName("Customer Code")] public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> CustomerCodeList { get; set; } public String FirstName { get; set; } public String LastName { get; set; } public String PhoneNumber { get; set; } public String Address1 { get; set; } public String Address2 { get; set; } public String City { get; set; } public String State { get; set; } public String Zip { get; set; } } My View Model has a CustomerCode property which is a value that the user selects from a list of values. I have a CustomerCodeList property that is a list of possible CustomerCode values and is the source for a drop down list. I've created a DropDownList attribute with a DropDownListTargetProperty. DropDownListTargetProperty points to the property which will be populated based on the user selection from the generated drop down (in this case, the CustomerCode property). Notice that the CustomerCode property has [ScaffoldColumn(false)] which forces the generator to skip the field in the generated output. My DropDownList.ascx file will generate a dropdown list form element with the source data from the CustomerCodeList property. The generated dropdown list will use the value of the DropDownListTargetProperty from the DropDownList attribute as the Id and the Name attributes of the Select form element. So the generated code will look like this: <select id="CustomerCode" name="CustomerCode"> <option>... </select> This works out great because when the form is submitted, MVC will populate the target property with the selected value from the drop down list because the name of the generated dropdown list IS the target property. I kinda visualize it as the CustomerCodeList property is an extension of sorts of the CustomerCode property. I've coupled the source data to the property. NOTE: you have to override the CreateMetadata method of the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider for the DropDownListAttribute.   I'm using jqGrid with the filter toolbar, i need to set an initial default filter value to one of the fields so that only rows with status 'Open' are displayed by default, but the user can display Closed rows if desired. At the moment i have a workaround like this setTimeout(function() {$('#gs_Status').val('Open');$("#eventsGrid")[0].triggerToolbar()},500); but it results in a second request and is pretty bad really. Does anybody know how to do this?

  I want to use the marquee effect on a TextView, but the text is only being scrolled when the TextView gets focus. That's a problem, because in my case, it can't. I am using: android:ellipsize="marquee" android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever" Is there a way to have the TextView always scroll its text? I've seen this being done in the Android Market app, where the app name will scroll in the title bar, even if it doesn't receive focus, but I couldn't find this being mentioned in the API docs.

• How to Enable ActiveX in Chrome?

  I read that early builds of Chrome supported ActiveX, but was later restricted to certain MIME types (for support for say Windows Media Player). I then read Google was going to enable ActiveX strictly for the Korean market. How do I (re)enable this in Chrome? Our web based product relies on ActiveX controls from 3rd parties to play custom video. This limits us to IE. We'd love to support Chrome also, but find it impossible w/o ActiveX support.

I sent it to my samsung star/corby via data cable, but when I try to open the wgt file on my phone it says it can't open it, because it doesn't know the filetype. When I choose Download, it saves it as "u7WYuJME.pdf(2).part", which is a valid PDF file. When I choose "Open with Preview", it downloads it but does not open it. Can I change something so that Firefox opens it correctly?
