• Use Hudson Build Parameter in Grails Build Target

  I have created two Hudson String Parameters in my parametrized build configuration: svnRoot, and svnBranch. I can reference these just fine when specifying my Repository URL: ${svnRoot}/${svnBranch}/subProject. But I have not been able to reference them as part of my Grails Build Target: "build-applet ${svnRoot}/${svnBranch}/appletProject username password" "war --non-interactive". build-applet invokes a Gant script in the Grails project at scripts\BuildApplet.groovy. • Embedded Jetty resourceBase classpath URL

  I'm embedding Jetty in a Spring based application. I configure my Jetty server in a Spring context file. The specific part of the configuration I'm having trouble with is this: <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <property name="contextPath" value="/" /> <property name="resourceBase" value="????????" /> <property name="parentLoaderPriority" value="true" /> </bean> If you see above, where I've put the ????????, I ideally want the resourceBase to reference a folder on my classpath. I'm deploying my application in a single executable JAR file and have a folder config/web/WEB-INF on my classpath. Jetty seems to be able to handle URLs defined in the resourceBase (e.g. jar:file:/myapp.jar!/config/web) but it doesn't seem to support classpath URLs. I get an IllegalArgumentException if I define something like classpath:config/web. This is a real pain for me. Does anyone know of anyway to achieve this functionality? Thanks, Andrew

• Glassfish, railo and coldbox - messed up links?

  I am new to ColdFusion and ColdBox (and programming). I tried to setup ColdBox but some of the links in the sample applications are broken. My configuration is a GlassFish v3 installation with the current Railo OSS. I access my site through Apache 2.2.14. So instead of http://127.0.0.1:8080/railo/ I access my environment trough http://railo/. In Railo I have a webroot mapping / to C:/webapps/myproject/. I have copied the current ColdBox 3M4 to C:/webapps/myproject/coldbox. I can access the dashboard through http://railo/coldbox/dashboard/index.cfm and have access to all options. My problems start the moment I try to open the sample gallery: HTTP Status 500 - type Exception report message description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\webapps\viss-dev\coldbox\samples (Zugriff verweigert) note The full stack traces of the exception and its root causes are available in the GlassFish v3 logs. GlassFish v3 OK, no problem, just enter the link directly: http://railo/coldbox/samples/index.cfm. The site looks plain, who cares - BUT all local links look like this: http://127.0.0.1:8080/coldbox/samples/applications/helloworld/index.cfm (railo is replaced with 127.0.0.1:8080). Looks like trouble. To make my confusion perfect: when I try to access the login app: http://railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm and hit the submit button, I am redirected to this address: http://railo/railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm. I believe that this is not really ColdBox-related, but it manifests itself when I try to use ColdBox, so here I am. P.S.: amazon.de takes too long to ship the ColdBox book :(

• fastest SCM tool available for Embedded software development

  Hi All, In my company, presently we are using Rational clearcase as the Software Configuration Management tool for our Embedded software development. The software is basically for Automobiles, to be specific for Engines (I dont think these information really matters). But I find Clearcase to be very slow is performing any the activities (accesing files, branching and labelling), in addition to which there are various other limitations. We have recently decided to research on some free & open source, distributed version control system which could be able to handle our large projects with speed and efficiency. This tool should be a full-fledged repository with complete history and full revision tracking capabilities, not dependent on network access or a central server. Branching and merging are fast and easy to do. It should have multisite development facility. With these above mentioned requirement, we have come up with some of the tools that are presently available in the market: GIT, Mercurial, Bazaar, Subversion, CVS, Perforce, and Visual SourceSafe. I need everybody's help in finding me an approrpiate SCM tool for me which meets the above mentioned requirements. Thanking you in Advance, Rahamath.

• Biztalk vs API for databroker layer

  My company is about to undergo a large project in which our client wants a large customer portal with a cms, crm implementing. This will require interaction with data from multiple sources across our customers business, these sources include XML office backend systems, sql datbases, webservices etc. Our proposed solution would be to write an API in c# to provide a common interface with all these systems. This would be scalable for future and concurrent projects within the company. Our client expressed an interest in using Biztalk rather than a custom API for this integration, as they feel it is an enterprise solution that any of their suppliers could pick up and use, and it will be better supported. We feel that the configuration work using Biztalk would be rather heavy for all their custom business rules which are required and an interface for the new application to get data to and from Biztalk would still need to be written. Are we right to prefer a custom API solution above Biztalk? Would Biztalk be suitable as a databroker layer to provide an interface for the new Customer portal we are writing. We have not experience with using Biztalk before so any input would be appreciated.

• Connecting Error to Remote Oracle XE database using ASP.NET

  Hello, I have installed Oracle XE on my Development machine and it is working fine. Then I installed Oracle XE client on my Test machine which is also working fine and I can access Development PC database from Browser. Now, I want to create an ASP.Net application which can access that Oracle XE database. I tried it too, but it always shows me an error on my TEST machine to connect database to the Development Machine using ASP.Net. • Netbeans (PHP) catching syntax error on xml declaration

  Hello. I've just installed and configured Netbeans to work with PHP (including xdebug), and almost everything is working as intended, except that I've been getting "errors" in the IDE after I edited the default webpage template to comply with xhtml 1.1. The template is this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="${project.encoding}" ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=${project.encoding}" /> <title></title> </head> <body> </body> </html> These are the errors I receive (I can't post images yet). Page is created OK, character encoding is inherited from project's settings as expected. It's probably something to do with the xml declaration on top of the document, but I don't really know how to "tune" Netbeans to ignore it and not show the 3 errors on every page I create. The warning is there because NB does not recognize the xhtml 1.1 DTD, so it falls back to html 4.01, which does not support the xmlns attribute in the html tag - and that's the only thing I could find searching around. It will be fixed in the next version, so I'm not worried about it. I know there's nothing wrong with the markup, but there's probably something I'm missing in NB configuration, and I would like to get rid of those messages because they pretty much take all the space I reserve for errors/warnings/tasks. So is there any way I can either make NB recognize this xml declaration or make it ignore these specific "errors"? Thanks.

• Retrieve property from classpath inside POM

  For my current project I want to integrate a maven plug-in for database migrations. For this plug-in to work, however, I have to obtain the database settings inside my POM. My database settings are currently placed inside a hibernate.properties file, positioned in a directory that is marked as maven resource. For a variety of reasons I do not want to duplicate my database configurations in both the pom and hibernate.properties. I'm aware that maven offers a "filtering" ability which makes it possible to specify the database settings as property inside my POM, and reference them inside my hibernate.properties as ${property_name}. But as I'm using multiple maven profiles, with different property resources, this is not a suitable solution. Instead I'd like my database configurations to be loaded from a property file inside my classpath (e.g. classpath:hibernate.properties), and use these properties in my migration plug-in configuration. I have already tried the org.codehaus.mojo » properties-maven-plugin, but this plug-in only accepts absolute locations. Is there a plug-in which can scan all my maven resources for a certain property?

• Optional Member Objects

  Okay, so you have a load of methods sprinkled around your systems main class. So you do the right thing and refactor by creating a new class and perform move method(s) into a new class. The new class has a single responsibility and all is right with the world again: class Feature { public: Feature(){}; void doSomething(); void doSomething1(); void doSomething2(); }; So now your original class has a member variable of type object: Feature _feature; Which you will call in the main class. Now if you do this many times, you will have many member-objects in your main class. Now these features may or not be required based on configuration so in a way it's costly having all these objects that may or not be needed. Can anyone suggest a way of improving this? At the moment I plan to test in the newly created class if the feature is enabled - so the when a call is made to method I will return if it is not enabled. I could have a pointer to the object and then only call new if feature is enabled - but this means I will have to test before I call a method on it which would be potentially dangerous and not very readable. Would having an auto_ptr to the object improve things: auto_ptr<Feature> feature; Or am I still paying the cost of object invokation even though the object may\or may not be required. BTW - I don't think this is premeature optimisation - I just want to consider the possibilites.

• Can I use a specific model from within a behavior in CakePHP?

  I'm trying to write a behavior that will give my models access to a simple workflow engine I've devised. The workflow engine itself works as a CakePHP model, with workflow data stored in the database just as any other model data is stored. Basically what I want to do is have the behavior use the workflow model whenever an action is called on the base model. For example, if the edit() action is executed for Posts, then the Post (with the behavior attached) will trigger the workflow behavior with its own model name, action, and id as arguments (e.g. [Post, edit, 1]). Then the behavior will invoke the functionality of the Workflow model, which has a record for what to do when edit is run on Posts (e.g. send e-mail to users who are subscribed to that post) and will carry that out. My question is, what is the proper way to invoke model/controller methods from within the behavior? The model to be used from within the behavior will always be Workflow, but the behavior should be usable from basically any model (aside from Workflow itself). I know I could run SQL queries directly from the behavior, but of course this is not the Cake way :-) Or, am I going about this in the wrong way? I want to store a certain amount of logic in the database so that it is easily configurable by different users, and not have endless configuration checks within the model/controller logic itself so that workflow steps can be easily added/changed/removed in the future.

• Jetty embedded: How to run the same config as with `mvn jetty:run-exploded`?

  Hi, I'd like to have the same Jetty server configuration, created programatically. When I run mvn jetty:run-exploded, my app works fine. When I run it from my code, the static content is not loaded. I know that I have to add a static content Servlet, so I tried: Server server = new Server(8080); Context ctx = new Context( server, "/", Context.SESSIONS ); DefaultServlet defaultServlet = new DefaultServlet(); ServletHolder defaultSH = new ServletHolder( defaultServlet ); defaultSH.setInitParameter( "resourceBase", "./"); ctx.addServlet( defaultSH, "/img" ); ctx.addServlet( defaultSH, "/css" ); ctx.addServlet( defaultSH, "/js" ); I am assuming that the pwd is in the webapp's "root", i.e. where the WEB-INF dir is. • Preferred way of application initialization

  Do you guys have your own little framework for project startups ? I mean, every time one needs to do the same things at the beginning: Context initialization - ideally after arguments are processed. Sometimes without interactive user input, sometimes with input reader. Sometimes we need to load properties, sometimes not. Then we need to get a class out of context and run its method. Programming....programming until writing shell script to place everything on classpath. It's true that it differs according to the actual needs. But it seems to me, that I'm doing always almost the same, again and again from the scratch. Sometimes I realize that I'm postponing my work just because I don't want to do these annoying startups. It would be great if there was some kind of universal Main class doing reflection to specified bean, context initialization, argument parsing, interactive user input reading and have the programmer do the important things...All setup might be done via spring configuration. I think I'll have to do it by myself. I'd appreciate your ideas

• What ORM for .NET should I use?

  I'm relatively new to .NET and have being using Linq2Sql for a almost a year, but it lacks some of the features I'm looking for now. I'm going to start a new project in which I want to use an ORM with the following characteristics: It has to be very productive, I don't want to be dealing with the access layer to save or retrieve objects from or to the database, but it should allows me to easily tweak any object before actually commit it to the database; also it should allows me to work easily with a changing database schema It should allows me to extend the objects mapped from the database, for example to add virtual attributes to them (virtual columns to a table) It has to be (at least almost) database agnostic, it should allows me to work with different databases in a transparent way It has to have not so much configuration or must be based on conventions to make it work It should allows me to work with Linq So, do you know any ORM that I could use? Thank you for your help. EDIT I know that an option is to use NHibernate. This appears as the facto standard for enterprise level applications, but also it seems that is not very productive because its deep learning curve. In other way, I have read in some other post here in SO that it doesn't integrate well with Linq. Is all of that true?

• C# TcpClient, getting back the entire response from a telnet device

  I'm writing a configuration tool for a device that can communicate via telnet. The tool sends a command via TcpClient.GetStream().Write(...), and then checks for the device response via TcpClient.GetStream().ReadByte(). This works fine in unit tests or when I'm stepping through code slowly. If I run the config tool such that it performs multiple commands consecutively, then the behavior of the read is inconsistent. By inconsistent I mean sometimes the data is missing, incomplete or partially garbled. So even though the device performed the operation and responded, my code to check for the response was unreliable. I "fixed" this problem by adding a Thread.Sleep to make sure the read method waits long enough for the device to complete its job and send back the whole response (in this case 1.5 seconds was a safe amount). • Visual Studio opening .xml files in Notepad

  So I'm happily working on a project making heavy use of custom .xml configuration files this morning. All of a sudden, whenever I double-click an .xml file in Solution Explorer, it opens in Notepad instead of within Visual Studio. Thinking that it was the Windows file associations, I right-clicked on a file in Explorer, selected Open With Choose Defaults, and selected Visual Studio 2008. But the problem remains -- now when I open a file from Explorer, Visual Studio Opens, then it opens Notepad. Needless to say, this is very frustrating, and Google is not much help. Has anyone else ever had this problem, and what did you do about it? Notes: This only happens for .xml files. Other text files (.config, .txt) open within Visual Studio just fine. This has nothing to do with Windows file associations, as Windows open up VS2008 just as it should. This is some crazy problem internal to Visual Studio. I've also tried Tools Options General Restore File Associations. No luck. Nothing present in Tools Options Text Editor File Extension This is what my "Open With" menu looks like for .xml files. As you can see, "XML Editor" is set to the default.

• Side by side madness - running binaries on different computer (with a twist)

  Here's my configuration: Computer A - Windows 7, MS Visual Studio 2005 patched for Win7 compatibility (8.0.50727.867) Computer B - Windows XP SP2, MS Visual Studio 2005 installed (8.0.50727.42) My project has some external dependencies (prebuilt DLLs - either build on A or downloaded from the Internet), a couple of DLLs built from sources and one executable. I am mostly developing on A and all is fine there. At some point I try to build my project on computer B, copying the prebuilt DLLs to the output folder. Everything builds fine, but trying to start my application I get The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).... The event log contains two of those: Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system. plus the slightly more amusing Generate Activation Context failed for some.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully. At this point I'm trying my Google-Fu, but in vain - virtually all hits are about running binaries on machines without Visual Studio installed. In my case, however, the executables fail to run on the computer they are built. Next step was to try dependency walker and it baffled me even more - my DLLs built from sources on the same box cannot find MSVCR80.DLL and MSVCP80.DLL, however the executable seems to be alright in respect to those two DLLs i.e. when I open the executable with dependency walker it shows that the MSVC?80.DLLs can be found, but when I open one of my DLLs it says they cannot. That's where I am completely out of ideas what to do so I'm asking you, dear stackoverflow :) I admit I'm a bit blurry on the whole side-by-side thing, so general reading on the topic will also be appreciated.

• Why delete-orphan needs "cascade all" to run in JPA/Hibernate ?

  Hello, I try to map a one-to-many relation with cascade "remove" (jpa) and "delete-orphan", because I don't want children to be saved or persist when the parent is saved or persist (security reasons due to client to server (GWT, Gilead)) But this configuration doesn't work. When I try with cascade "all", it runs. • WPF - Why doesn't Microsoft supply a decent set of most-used controls ?

  I've been playing with WPF for some months now, and I quite like it. But one of the things I don't get is why MS doesn't put a little more effort in helping developers by supplying basic controls, and I need to get this off my chest :) For example, I figure most applications somewhere will need to let you edit some properties - for configuration or whatever. What would be the most used types in a proprety-grid editor ? text numbers (byte, float/double, int, etc) colors ....etc. So why isn't there even something as simple as a control to edit numbers ? Like a generic NumericUpDown control that allows you to type in numbers (no text, no pasting invalid input) or spin them up/down according to some given rules (decimal, floating point, min/maxvalue) ? Why isn't there a generic colorpicker, so people get the same user-experience in every application ? Why isn't there a standard implementation of a SearchTextBox, a BreadCrumb-control, or all these other standard control types users have gotten accustomed to the last 10 years ? (..but at least they DID have the time to implement a generic splashscreen - because everyone knows that greatly increases user-productivity....) The well-known ideal is always to give people the same user-experience over different applications. So even if some of those controls would be easy to make - it would be preferred to have one version over different applications. I see people all over the internet trying to do the same stuff over and over again. Okay, so MS started a WPF Toolkit project on Codeplex that tries to implement some controls, but only did so half-heartedly and is completely dead by now (last update of the roadmap dates back to Mar 21 2009). The result of this is that a lot of people starting a WPF-project end up spending a lot of time on trying to figure out how to create some generic controls and get really frustrated. Wasn't the mantra "Developers, developers, developers!" ..? /Rant

• TeamCity output artifacts not published to IIS7 folder

  I am trying to set up TeamCity to build and deploy an ASP.NET MVC application. I have the setup running successfully on other servers using TeamCity 4.5, but the new server is running TeamCity 6, and I am having trouble getting it to work as expected. TeamCity manages to get the files from source control, and the project (Visual Studio Solution 2008 set to "Build") builds and outputs the necessary files as expected. The problem seems to be with my artifact paths, as the output files are not copied to the website folder. My solution consists of dozen projects, of which the "Web" project is the interesting one in this case. The build checkout directory is C:\TeamCity\buildAgent\work\7da320cebf0ee541, and the "Web"-project is found in C:\TeamCity\buildAgent\work\7da320cebf0ee541\Web I have set up my build configuration with the following artifact paths (relative from checkout directory to the folder containing the website): Web/bin=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging/bin Web/Content=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging/Content Web/Views=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging/Views Web/Media=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging/Media Web/*.aspx=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging Web/*.asax=>../../../../inetpub/wwwroot/staging (I've tried with more ../ just in case, but it didn't make a difference).   I have implemented the ability to upload, download, delete, etc. using the FtpWebRequest class in C#. That is fairly straight forward. What I need to do now is support sending arbitrary ftp commands such as quote SITE LRECL=132 RECFM=FB or quote SYST Here's an example configuration straight from our app.config: <!-- The following commands will be executed before any uploads occur --> <extraCommands> <command>quote SITE LRECL=132 RECFM=FB</command> </extraCommands> I'm still researching how to do this using FtpWebRequest. I'll probably try WebClient class next. Anyone can point me in the right direction quicker? Thanks! UPDATE: I've come to that same conclusion, as of .NET Framework 3.5 FtpWebRequest doesn't support anything except what's in WebRequestMethods.Ftp.*. I'll try a third party app recommended by some of the other posts. Thanks for the help!

• Static library woes in iPhone 3.x with categories and C libraries

  I have a static library (let's call it S) that uses a category (NSData+Base64 from MGTwitterEngine) and a C library (MiniZip wrapped by ZipArchive). This static library is used in an iPhone 3.x project (let's call it A). To be able to use the MiniZip library I included its files in project A as well as the static library S. If not I get compilation errors. Project A works fine on the simulator. When I run it on the device, I get unrecognized selector errors when the category is used. As pointed out here, it seems there's a linker bug that affects categories in iPhone 3.x (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1147676/categories-in-static-library-for-iphone-device-3-0). The workaround is to add -all_load to the Other Linker Flags of the project that references the static library. However, if I do this then I get duplicate symbol errors because I included the MiniZip libraries in project A. A workaround is to include the category files in project A as well. If I do this, project A works well in the device, but fails to build on the simulator because of duplicate symbol errors. How should I set up project A to make it work on the simulator and the device with the same configuration?

• Load Spikes on a Apache MySQL Server with Wordpress MU

  Hi there, I am trying to investigate the reasons for some mysterious load spikes on a Linux Apache server (2.2.14) running PHP 5.2.9 on a dedicated server with enough processing power and memory. My primary web application is a Wordpress MU (2.9.2) installation. I have investigated and ruled out DOS attack, MySQL or Apache configuration issues. The log files don't give me anything of interest, except to tell me that there is severe load. The load (which can go up to 100) just seems to come and go. It helps that I have a script that checks every 3 minutes for the load, and restarts Apache. Restarting it helps, and the server comes back, till it happens again. There seems to be no set time frame, or visitor numbers on the site that can trigger this. Even a low number of concurrent visitors (20) can trigger it. I am almost convinced that there is a rewrite loop somewhere that is causing Apache to go mad. Apache is trying to serve something that is causing it to spawn more and more processes till it keels over. My question is: Given that I am convinced that this is a rewrite issue or something similar, how can I try and figure out what the issue is? What should I monitor? Apache logs are voluminous, and not very helpful. Of course, if this is not the issue, then at least knowing what to look for will help me eliminate this as an issue and look for something else.
