• Pros and cons IPV6 vs stretched vlans

  I'm having a hard time finding information about whether implementing ipv6 or using a stretched vlan is a better option for geographically dispersed sites is better. Does anyone know: Problems with stretched vlans (mac address broadcasting etc) costs for devices to solve those problems pros for using IPv6 instead EDIT. What I am looking for is pros and cons against implementing the equipment required to implement stretched IPv4 vlans vs simply using IPv6 to solve the same problems. Eg admins stretch vlans instead of route because protocol X can't be routed, but IPv6 can encapsulate protocol X so there is no need to worry about that problem.

• Is Mac OS X a licensed Unix or Unix-like clone that conforms to Unix specification?

  Is Mac OS X developed on a licensed Unix or is it a Unix-like clone that, unlike Linux, conforms to Unix specification well enough to be registered as a Unix OS. Not until Leopard, Mac OS X did not gain the Unix certification. But in Leopard, Terminal still print: GNU bash, version 3.2.48(1)-release (x86_64-apple-darwin10.0) But GNU is GNU's not Unix, and Mac OS X is registered as Unix. That gets me confused whether OS X is unix or unix-like. In other words, is OS X written on top of Unix or a re-write of Unix that is as Unix as it can possible be. May be along the answer someone can provide lineage or other background information. I would also recommend reading How Unix is Mac OS X.

  I would like to know all the permissions a windows domain user have in my network. Is there a way, with a script file or a tool, that can extract this kind of information by checking all the servers and computers in my network? I'm on a Microsoft network with Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows XP, Windows 7. • Advantages to Server Scripting languages over Client Side Scripting languages

  There are numerous advantages to server scripting languages over client side scripting languages in regards to creating web sites that are more compelling compared to a standard static site. Server side scripts are executed on a web server during the compilation of data to return to a client. These scripts allow developers to modify the content that is being sent to the user prior to the return of the data to the user as well as store information about the user. In addition, server side scripts allow for a controllable environment in which they can be executed. This cannot be said for client side languages because the developer cannot control the users’ environment compared to a web server. Some users may turn off client scripts, some may be only allow limited access on the system and others may be able to gain full control of the environment.  I have been developing web applications for over 9+ years, and I have used server side languages for most of the applications I have built.  Here is a list of common things I have developed with server side scripts. List of Common Generic Functionality: Send Email FTP Files Security/ Access Control Encryption URL rewriting Data Access Data Creation I/O Access The one important feature server side languages will help me with on my website is Data Access because my component will be backed with a SQL server database. I believe that form validation is one instance where I might see server side and client side scripts used interchangeably because it does not matter how or where the data is validated as long as the data that gets inserted is valid.

• Using Microsoft's Chart Controls In An ASP.NET Application: Serializing Chart Data

  In most usage scenarios, the data displayed in a Microsoft Chart control comes from some dynamic source, such as from a database query. The appearance of the chart can be modified dynamically, as well; past installments in this article series showed how to programmatically customize the axes, labels, and other appearance-related settings. However, it is possible to statically define the chart's data and appearance strictly through the control's declarative markup. One of the demos examined in the Getting Started article rendered a column chart with seven columns whose labels and values were defined statically in the <asp:Series> tag's <Points> collection. Given this functionality, it should come as no surprise that the Microsoft Chart Controls also support serialization. Serialization is the process of persisting the state of a control or an object to some other medium, such as to disk. Deserialization is the inverse process, and involves taking the persisted data and recreating the control or object. With just a few lines of code you can persist the appearance settings, the data, or both to a file on disk or to any stream. Likewise, it takes just a few lines of codes to reconstitute a chart from the persisted information. This article shows how to use the Microsoft Chart Control's serialization functionality by examining a demo application that allows users to create custom charts, specifying the data to plot and some appearance-related settings. • DBA Command line options

  There are a number of database utilities supplied with the installation of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework based products. These are typically run in interactive mode where the utility prompts you for the values and then executes the required functionality. Did you know that the utilities also have command line options that allow you to run the utility in silent mode as well? You can assess the command line options by specifying the -h option on the command line. Here is an example of the oragensec command line options: oragensec -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> -u <Database Users> -r <ReadRole,UserRole> -l <logfile> -h where: -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> Database connect information for the target database. e.g. spladm,spladm,DB200ODB. -u <Database Users> A comma-separated list of database users where synonyms need to be created. e.g. spluser, splread -r <ReadRole,UserRole> Optional. Names of database roles with read and read-write privileges. Default roles are SPL_READ, SPL_USER. e.g. spl_read,spl_user -l <logfile> Optional. Name of the log file. -h Help The command line options allow the DBA to automate the exeucution either via a script or some utility can than execute utilities. • Problem using Polar Irda device in Windows Server 2008

  I'm attempting to use the Polar IrDA device with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Although they dont make explicit drivers for it, I figured the Windows 7 x64 drivers would do. http://www.polar.fi/en/support/downloads?product=&category=Software&documenttitle=Polar+IrDA+USB+Adapter+drivers&document=/gip/PKBStoGIP.nsf/web_cat/C225742500419A8AC2257458003D3F40 The device has a yellow warning icon in Device Manager. A developer can record sound at the same time they're capturing a transaction or by adding sound after recording, on a frame-by-frame basis. The sound editor in UPK 3.6.1 allows developers to perform a variety of editing functions: play, insert sound or silence, delete, adjust amplification, and import or export sound files, just to name a few. Internally, Oracle Product Management is using this functionality to create "UPK-casts" for enablement purposes. We do this by capturing PowerPoint slides, then adding sound, allowing us to create our own recorded "webcasts". Because we develop these independently, we control the content and have more flexibility to edit the content as needed. Whether it's a change to a single frame or an entire topic, we can react quickly, providing our users with the most up-to-date information. • SharePoint and COMException (0x80004005): Cannot complete this action

  I ran into a small issue today working on a deployment.  We were moving a custom ASP.NET control from my development environment into a SharePoint layout page on a staging environment .  I was expecting some minor issues to arise since I had developed the control in an ASP.NET website project, but after getting everything moved over we got an obscure COMException error the that looked like this: Cannot complete this action. Please try again. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Cannot complete this action. [COMException (0x80004005): Cannot complete this action. .Lengthy stack trace goes here. Everything in the custom control was built using managed code, so we weren't sure why a COMException would suddenly appear. The control made use of an ITemplate to define its UI, so there was a lot of markup and binding code inside the template. As such, we started taking chunks of the template out of the layout page and eventually the error went away.  It was being caused by a section of code where we were calling a custom utility method inside some binding code: <%# WebUtility.FormatDecimal(.) %> Solution: It turns out that we were missing an Assembly and Import directive at the top of the page to let the page know where to find this method.  After adding these to the page, the error went away and everything worked great.  So a COMException (0x80004005) Cannot complete this action error is just SharePoint's friendly way of letting you know you're missing an assembly or imports reference.

I went on the dd-wrt web site and I read the wiki, but I didn't see any files or instructions on how to change the firmware. The router database lists my router, but as I said: no files. In addition the "Supported" column lists "wip", what is wip? • Logging in user in Windows 2008 server using LogonUser fails on LogonType LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE

  I am using LogonUser function to logon an account to Windows 2008 R2 server on a domain with clusterring. When using LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE as LogonType, I successfully login. When using LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE as LogonType, Login fails, EventViewer says: An account failed to log on. Logon Type: 5 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: thename Account Domain: thedomain Logon ID: 0x1009371c Logon Type: 5 Failure Information: Failure Reason: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine. • Setting static IP on CentOS without system-config-network

  Background information: I have a problem installing system-config-network. It appears it cannot find an update to sqlite (checks every mirror and comes back empty handed.) I have tried the skipping broken option and package cleanups from yum-utils. Since I cannot get it installed, I decided to set an ip manually from console. A quick Google search comes back empty handed as for an easy how-to guide that works. What do I need to do for a currently configured DHCP ip to change it to a Static IP from console. Thanks, Josh

Since I worked as integrator on this app, my tasks involved integrating design assets in all screens, and so I had an insider view on all the screens (and that is really a LOT of screens :) Seeing some comments about the app made me understand that most users out there don’t realize how rich the application is, and how many features are available. So without further ado, here we go, a list of Twitter for WP7 protips: (note: I will extend the list if I think of new stuff, and maybe add some screenshots later). Check the dark theme in the application settings! Select a tweet, menu, Translate. Search, Nearby looks for tweets near you Custom searches can be saved. They synch up with web twitter too! Multi language support, independant from OS. supports EN, FR, DE, IT, ES Multiple accounts are supported, simply define them in the Settings Even without a Twitter account, experience is super rich. Trends, Suggested, Nearby, searches etc... Select a tweet, then press Replies To to see the whole conversation Compose, menu, Hashtags. Enter a hashtag and press Add. List is saved for the next time. Select a tweet with location info (like my own). Press the location name to see all Nearby tweets Want to remove location information just for one tweet? Press on the Places button in app bar then Clear Place Settings, General to toggle between Username/Fullname display, Relative/Absolute date/time and more Upload a picture directly from compose screen to TwitPic, yFrog or TweetPhoto (service selection in Settings) Settings, About, Support to see a log of app errors and email it to support (use wisely please) Tap your username to see your profile. • How to create an NFS proxy by using kernel server & client?

  I have a file server that exports as NFS. On an Ubuntu machine I mount that, then try to export it as an NFS volume. When I go to export it, I get the message: exportfs: /test/nfs-mount-point does not support NFS export How can I get this to work, or at least get more information as to what the problem is? Exact steps: Unbuntu 12.04 mount -f nfs myfileserver.com:/server-dir /test/nfs-mount-point [Works fine, I can read & write files] /etc/exports contains: /test/nfs-mount-point *(rw,no_subtree_check) sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart Stopping NFS kernel daemon [ OK ] Unexporting directories for NFS kernel daemon...
