  • iMac memory limit

    I have an iMac that was from the first generation of aluminum iMacs. The reported model is "iMac 7,1". This iMac's manual says I can put 2 2GB modules, but when this manual was made we don't have modules with more than 2GB and also we had Leopard then, that I suppose can handle less memory than Snow leopard. Today we have 4GB modules, so can I put two 4GB modules and make it 8GB? thanks.

    I received a out of memory error SQL Error: 0, SQLState: 53200 from postgres while trying to upload a 10MB file into a single row with a column of blob-type bytea. Which configuration parameters should be changed to allow inserts of this size, or should this work out of the box without modifications? Is there an option like in informix-db to create so called blob-spaces?

    I have a Linux server containing the os version below: Linux 2.6.32-220.7.1.el6.x86_64 I want to restart it in every 2 days, please help me, I want to do it via crontab. Another help, I used a code below to drop my memory caches in every hour. 0 * * * * /root/clearcache.sh #!/bin/sh sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches But 1st 15 in every hour my server remain so slow after cleaning the caches. My sites do not load during every hour in 1st 15 minutes. In another way if I restart my server then also caches are removed. So I decided to restart my server in every 2 days to drop my caches. Will it be helpful to restart? Or is there any other way to drop my memory caches that will not down my server?

I then logged off and logged back in immediately and I entered that same command and I wasn't asked for a username and password. I want to clear this to test something without restarting my server!   • How to fix Windows 2008 R2 show less memory than available

    I've got Win2008 R2 64bit installed on Dell R410 server with 8GB of RAM. Dell Open Manage shows 8GB total and 4GB available for use, In Windows Control Panel, System i see 64bit and 8GB of RAM while in Windows Task Manager at Performance tab there is 4GB of memory available. Dell support has made some checks and told me that if BIOS shows 8Gb of RAM and indeed BIOS does then it's operational system issue. Tried to search online for resolution but none found. Please help, thanks

  • Java website on Tomcat PHP website on Apache - how to get PHP web pages into Java web pages?

    We have a Java web application deployed on Tomcat. We also setup Apache and mod_proxy_ajp to route web requests (port 80/443) to Tomcat. We would like to deploy a PHP application on the same Apache server - probably under a subdirectory (/var/www/ourapp). Now we would like to access & display web pages from PHP application within web pages generated by Java application. Planning to implement Single Sign-on as well. Example: Web page from java has (JQuery Tabs) and we like to display the PHP web page within a tab while all other HTML comes from java application. Can you please give a overall picture of how to proceed about this? Mainly 1. how we should install/setup our PHP application on same Apache server which is used to route web requests to Tomcat? i.e. either setup sub domain or install in sub directory 2. How to bring PHP pages into present web pages (generated by java). Can we use AJAX requests or should go for Java PHP Bridge/ Querces such applications? Thank you for your time in advance. Regards.

  • HP ML150 G6 upgrading RAM/CPU beyond specs?

    I am being told that some limits on some HP servers can be crossed. Do any of you have any experience with that? A ML150/G6 is limited to 48GB RAM but I have been talking to a German company that guaranties me that this server will be able to be upgraded to 384GB RAM (using 32GB memory modules and 2 CPUs) http://www.compuram.de/en/memory,HP+%28-Compaq%29,Server,Proliant,ML150+G6.htm Can this really be true? The server that I have is using E5504 CPUs but will I be able to upgrade to any CPU that is using a LGA1366 socket? All from a low wattage L5640 all the way to the 6 core, high wattage versions like an X5650? (If cooling and power is adequate ofcause).   • Commit charge peak higher than system limit

    We are seeing some very strange behaviour on our servers and google didn't turn up anything usefull, so I'm tossing it out here. A standard server is configured with 4GB Ram, 2 4GB pagefiles and running windows server 2003. The servers are running 50-120 vb6/.net applications which normally consume no more than 100mb of memory, but will occasionally run up to 300 mb. The issue with a single process spending way too much memory is being traced down somewhere else, but the thing that is baffling us is that the reported peak charge is vastly higher than what we have available. As the image above shows, we are getting reported peaks that are way higher than what the system is actually capable of delivering. This number has been seen as high as 29GB, which makes no sense at all for a system with a limit of 12GB. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?

  • Alienware m15x (older model) BSOD investigation

    A frined of mine asked me to help him with an Alienware m15x laptop that had a little service history. It was bought in june 2008, serviced in january 2009 for a random fps drop problem, Alienware returned it saying nothing was wrong. The laptop still had hiccups, but after juggling a few drivers and settings, the fps drops weren't as noticeable. Eventually it died in Sept. 2009. It would not boot up locking itself on a white/gray screen. (i think it was overheating .. clocking in 100 degrees Celsius). So back to Alienware it went. They replaced the GPU and all was fine. Up until these blue screens started showing up. One other thing that was updated was the HDD and a Windows 7 reinstall, in August. From then on it seems to have started its BSOD. Could this be the culprit? Why? 0_o The original Windows was Vista but it was upgraded with a digital download/purchase of Windows 7 Home Premium and activated after installing windows. No errors on the old HDD, just on the latest installation. LE:Due note that now the old HDD is used to see if issues re-occur. So please, I am in need of someone who can interpret these windows dump files: Minidump I may have come to some conflicting conclusions. So if someone can clarify each dump/date and the probable cause/error it had; and a final conclusion or solution, we would be very grateful.   • System Lags/Freezes when under high usgage

    I am not sure if its my GPU / Memory or Hard drive thats failing. For example if I'm runnning more than one instance of chrome and running an application that takes up a lot of resources, my system will start to lag and freeze. When I launch Photoshop the GPU feature disables automatically, this also lags when I click on menus and when working on documents in Photoshop. I really dont know where to start, if i should buy a new graphics card or test the memory or could it be my OS drive?     I am interested in getting the spec of a machine, because I am thinking getting a similar server. What I am mostly interested in knowing is the number of cores / CPUs / etc., the amount of memory, the speed of the CPUs, the CPU cache size, and any other detail which is important for performance. My question is two-fold: Which parameters should I be interested in other than the ones I specified above? Is there an easy way to read them off the machine in Linux? cat /proc/cpuinfo reveals a lot about the CPUs, for example... What about memory (would rather not rely on top), etc?

    I've installed Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10, 2x8GB, DDR3-1600, PC3-12800, CL10, DIMM and my BIOS picks up that there is 16GB, Windows says there is 16GB, CPU-z says there is 16GB. But it only says I can use 4.99GB out of 16GB. Motherboard is P55-GD65 (MS-7583) Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600*/2000*/2133* (OC) DRAM, 16GB Max Windows (Above screenshot specifies that I am on a System type: 64-bit OS) CPU-z Microsoft says that the physical memory limit on a 64 bit win7 professional operating system is 192GB.   • Windows 7 unreasonable ram usage

    I have a fresh install of windows 7, and my ram in normal startup goes up to 2.5 GB. I looked at task manager, and there's at least 1.5 GB missing from there and in resource monitor as well. No indication of what's using that ram. Can someone tell me how I can find out what's consuming my memory? I believe it's a virus but none of the free antivirus programs tracked it down. EDIT I added the pictures bellow. If this is normal usage of windows 7 as some answers imply... then I don't get this at all. P.S My windows 8 Installation was running bellow 2.5 gb actually it was 1. something, until recently that I transferred some files from another computer which had the same problem that mine has now. I deleted windows 8 and installed 7, since i would do that anyway. And now I'm getting high memory usage in windows 7 as well.

  • Why aren't there 8gb RAM modules yet?

    Why is RAM module development seemingly stuck at the same size for a while now (a couple of years)? I bought 2x2gb modules 2 years ago, and now it's all the same size, with prices even bigger. I want more memory, because I work a lot on my computer and I just need it. What is going on? Hardware/memory progress was being made constantly until these couple of years, and I'm a big computer user for over 15 years. Why isn't here 4gb/8gb modules yet? I would gladly replace my DDR2 motherboard for a DDRX one if it had at least 4gb DDRX modules for a reasonable price. Now we have a situation with very cheap usb drives reaching 64gb size, and a ram modules with pathetic 2gb size. Sounds like some sort of conspiracy.

  • How much ram to be able to convert large (5-6MB) jpegs? [closed]

    I've got a project where we want to be processing large jpegs (5-6MB) with apache and php (using GD library). My understanding is that the server converts the image into a BMP making it quite ram heavy and currently we're unable to do it with our 1gb of memory. Here's the error we get: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 17408 bytes) How much ram should we be looking at running with to process images of this size? Edit: As Chris S the purist highlighted below, my post is apparently vague. I am doing the most basic and common manipulation of an image, say turning it from a 4352px x 3264px jpg of 5mb in size, to a 900px x 675px file.

  • Find the model of my motherboard without opening the computer [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Find out what the motherboard on my computer is I need to find the model of my motherboard so I can find what soundcard/chip it uses so I can get some drivers for it. Is there anyway to get this from inside XP? I looked through device manager but haven't seen anything that would tell me. I built the system over a year ago and don't have any receipts to check what it was.
