LINQ EF not saving to database...

I guess this is a continuation of the last question I asked: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2587542/bulk-insert-and-update-with-ado-net-entity-framework. I am not getting any errors while doing inserts yet no data is actually going into my DB. My DB is a SDF file (SQL CE). Any ideas what to check? Blocking HTML and Javascript from being displayed on my site

I am working on this new social networking site. One of it's various functions is posting. You can post to Facebook and my site, or Twitter and my site. That being said, I couldn't help but try and post HTML as I was testing sql injection. When I did, I noticed that there where ways to manipulate the site to, for instance, using a element to completely screw up the CSS design, or redirect a user to another site using javascript. That being said, I want to make my site a safe environment for my users... not a site that is used to distribute computer viruses, porn, and other things that might make someone tend to stay off of my site. When I searched this topic, I found ways to "strip" the HTML out of the $post variable before submitting it to the database. However, I would just like to make it so you can post any text, including HTML and Javascript, without the browser interpreting it as "run this..." code: I want to display it as plane text. I've seen it on Facebook, and when I looked at it the source code of a post, it showed <, /, and as regular text. I tried "dissecting" Facebook's source code, but found nothing. I have tried using tags such as <pre> and <code>, but because of the lack of ability to style and control them, I gave up and went back to just allowing HTML. I have the following problem. I have a td which I need to add other three elements inside (span,div,p, or any other suggestion) in order to align the three elements inside one next to each other (the content of this elements is text). If all the elements contains a single line of text, then everything its fine. The problem comes when the first to are single line of text and third element contains more than one line of text, then text of third element it would go under first element, but I need it to go under third element. eg. Output desired. Title on element1: (subtitle on element 2) Text on element 3 with several lines of text. Actual output. Parallelizing L2S Entity Retrieval

Assuming a typical domain entity approach with SQL Server and a dbml/L2S DAL with a logic layer on top of that: In situations where lazy loading is not an option, I have settled on a convention where getting a list of entities does not also get each item's child entities (no loading), but getting a single entity does (eager loading). Since getting a single entity also gets children, it causes a cascading effect in which each child then gets its children too. This sounds bad, but as long as the model is not too deep, I usually don't see performance problems that outweigh the benefits of the ease of use. So if I want to get a list in which each of the items is fully hydrated with children, I combine the GetList and GetItem methods. So I'll get a list and then loop through it getting each item with the full cascade. Even this is generally acceptable in many of the projects I've worked on - but I have recently encountered situations with larger models and/or more data in which it needs to be more efficient. I've found that partitioning the loop and executing it on multiple threads yields excellent results. In my first experiment with a list of 50 items from one particular project, I did 5 threads of 10 items each and got a 3X improvement in time. Of course, the mileage will vary depending on the project but all else being equal this is clearly a big opportunity. However, before I go further, I was wondering what others have done that have already been through this. What are some good approaches to parallelizing this type of thing?

Detecting the axis of rotation from a pointcloud

I'm trying to auto-detect the axis of rotation on a 3d pointcloud. In other words, if I took a small 3d pointcloud, chose a single axis of rotation, and make several copies of the points at different rotation angles, then I get a larger pointcloud. The input to my algorithm is the larger pointcloud, and the desired output is the single axis of symmetry. And eventually I'm going to compute the correspondences between points that are rotations of each other. The size of the larger pointcloud is on the order of 100K points, and the number of rotational copies made is unknown. The rotation angles in my case have constant deltas, but don't necessarily span 360 degrees. For example, I might have 0, 20, 40, 60. Or I might have 0, 90, 180, 270. But I won't have 0, 13, 78, 212 (or if I do, I don't care to detect it). This seems like a computer vision problem, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to precisely find the axis. The input will generally be very clean, close to float accuracy.

Does IE completely ignore cache control headers for AJAX requests?

Hello there, I've got, what I would consider, a simple test web site. A single page with a single button. Here is a copy of the source I'm working with if you would like to download it and play with it. When that button is clicked, it creates a JavaScript timer that executes once a second. When the timer function is executed, An AJAX call is made to retrieve a text value. That text value is then placed into the DOM. What's my problem? IE Caching. Crack open Task Manager and watch what happens to the iexplorer.exe process (IE 8.0.7600.16385 for me) while the timer in that page is executing. See the memory and handle count getting larger? Why is that happening when, by all accounts, I have caching turned off. I've got the jQuery cache option set to false in $.ajaxSetup. I've got the CacheControl header set to no-cache and no-store. The Expires header is set to DateTime.Now.AddDays(-1). The headers are set in both the page code-behind as well as the HTTP Handler's response. Anybody got any ideas as to how I could prevent IE from caching the results of the AJAX call? Here is what the iexplorer.exe process looks like in ProcessMonitor. I believe that the activity shown in this picture is exactly what I'm attempting to prevent.

Add something to symbol in dynamicly loaded swf (ActionScript 3)

I have a program written in Flash Builder with Flex 4.6 sdk and swf movie with some symbols inside. Those symbols moving around the stage. What I need is load that swf in my program and replace one of those symbols to my bitmap and show whole swf in flashContainer. c# creating a database query METHOD

I'm not sure if im delluded but what I would like to do is create a method that will return the results of a query, so that i can reuse the connection code. As i understand it, a query returns an object but how do i pass that object back? I want to send the query into the method as a string argument, and have it return the results so that I can use them. Here's what i have which was a stab in the dark, it obviously doesn't work. This example is me trying to populate a listbox with the results of a query; the sheet name is Employees and the field/column is name. C++ game loop example

Can someone write up a source for a program that just has a "game loop", which just keeps looping until you press Esc, and the program shows a basic image. Storing large numbers of varying size objects on disk

I need to develop a system for storing large numbers (10's to 100's of thousands) of objects. Each object is email-like - there is a main text body, and several ancillary text fields of limited size. A body will be from a few bytes, to several KB in size. Each item will have a single unique ID (probably a GUID) that identifies it. The store will only be written to when an object is added to it. It will be read often. Deletions will be rare. The data is almost all human readable text so it will be readily compressible. A system that lets me issue the I/Os and mange the memory and caching would be ideal. I'm going to keep the indexes in memory, using it to map indexes to the single (and primary) key for the objects. Once I have the key, then I'll load it from disk, or the cache. The data management system needs to be part of my application - I do not want to depend on OS services. Or separately installed packages. Native (C++) would be best, but a manged (C#) thing would be ok. I believe that a database is an obvious choice, but this needs to be super-fast for look up and loading into memory of an object. I am not experienced with data base tech and I'm concerned that general relational systems will not handle all this variable sized data efficiently. (Note, this has nothing to do with my job - its a personal project.) In your experience, what are the viable alternatives to a traditional relational DB? Or would a DB work well for this?

Custom API requirement

We are currently working on an API for an existing system. It basically wraps some web-requests as an easy-to-use library that 3rd party companies should be able to use with our product. As part of the API, there is an event mechanism where the server can call back to the client via a constantly-running socket connection. To minimize load on the server, we want to only have one connection per computer. Currently there is a socket open per process, and that could eventually cause load problems if you had multiple applications using the API. So my question is: if we want to deploy our API as a single standalone assembly, what is the best way to fix our problem? A couple options we thought of: Write an out of process COM object (don't know if that works in .Net) Include a second exe file that would be required for events, it would have to single-instance itself, and open a named pipe or something to communicate through multiple processes Extract this exe file from an embedded resource and execute it None of those really seem ideal. Any better ideas?

redirect web app results to own application

Is it possible to redirect a web apps results to a second application? I cannot parse the html source. It contains the javascript functions that execute the queries but all the content is probably server side. I hope this makes sense. The owner has made the script available but I am not sure how this helps. Can I using .net call the site and redirect results perhaps to a file or database? the app accesses one of googles apis and performs searches/queries and returns results which are displayed on the site. Now all the javascript functions that perform these queries are listed in the source but I do not know javascript so it does not make much sense to me. I have used the documentation which uses the oauth protocol to access the api and have implemented that in my web app but it took me nearly a week to get the request token right and now to send requests to the api, sometimes I get one result back and sometimes none. It is frustrating me and the owner of the web app has given use of his script but he says all that happens is that my browser interacts with the google api and not his server. So I thought why not have my web app call his, since his interacts with the API flawlessly and have the results sent to my app to save in a database. I have very little experience here so pardon my ignorance

Can't get findnext property of range class error

I am trying to parse a report in Excel 2007. It is basically a report of accounting charge exceptions. The report has sections with a header for each type of exception. There are types of exceptions that are deleted from the report. I'm using a Do While loop to find each header and if the section needs to be deleted I have it do so. If nothing needs to be deleted the code works fine, but right after a section is deleted I get an "Unable to get the FindNext property of the Range Class" error. Are reads and (transactional) writes faster for entities of the same group than otherwise?

What advantage is there to designing child-parent relationships, which allow us to do writes in transactions, when there is never a real concern for consistency and contention and those sort of more complex issues? Does it make writes and reads faster? Consider my situation where there are many .png images that are referenced to one mosaic layer, and these .png images are written just once by a single user. The user can design many mosaic layers and her mosaic layers and referenced image entities are never changed/updated, they are just deleted some time in the future. Other users can come to the web project site and interactively view the mosaic layer as different layouts/configurations of the images as they play (query) with different criteria. So reads should be very fast. So there is no real worry of contention, or users conflicting with one another with writing new image entities. And because of that I am assuming there is no "requirement" for the .png image entities to be grouped by their same mosaic layer in child-parent relationship. However, perhaps, since the documentation says they are stored close to one another, if the many image entities were grouped as children to a single mosaic layer parent than this has the advantage that the writing (in transaction) and reading will happen much faster?

However I just realize it is quite tricky, because I want the user select for example tag1, tag2 and tag3, with the mouse. Instead now they disappear when the mouse rolls out from the puppet image. Any guideline ? thanks

jquery form extension ajax

I need to get the comment that the user submitted to be displayed in the respective div that it was submitted from. I can either set this as a hidden field in the form, or as text in the ajax-process.php file. I can't work out how to get the response from ajax-process.php into something I can work with in the script, if I run the following it appends to all the forms (obviously). The only way I can think to do it is to repeat the script using individual DIV ID's instead of a single class. Subversion (svn) beginner's questions

Hello, Here's what i'm trying to do. I have a project in /var/www/project. I'd like to use svn for this project. I've installed SVN on my debian server for this purpose, but i don't understand how to use it and the googling got me even more confused. I'd like to create a repository /var/svn/project and use it. After some changes occur, i'd like to export all the code back to /var/www/project. Now here's what i've done: i've created a repository: svnadmin create /var/svn/project i've imported the code: svn import /var/www/project file:///var/svn/project -m "Initial import" i've checked out the code with "Versions" client Everything seems to work fine, but ... If i go to /var/svn/project, there are no source files from my project there or in any subdirectory. Although the svn client is able to checkout all of those files. So i've read that in svn, files are not stored separately neither in berkley db nor in fsfs filesystems. Then the question is ... how do i export the source back to /var/www/project? If i do an svn export command on the /var/svn/project directory, it says i'm not in a working copy :(

Git + SoA, one repo or many?

Normally, when I start up a new application, I'd create a new git repository for it. That's well accepted and plays nice with Github when I want to share my code. At work, I'm working in a service oriented architecture. One very common pattern is to add some code to two different applications at the same time - perhaps adding a model with a RESTful interface to one and a web frontend for managing it on another. Using separate git repositories has some warts in this case. Here are what I see as the downsides of doing separate repositories: I have to commit twice I can't correllate related commits very well No single place to go back and trace history - I'd love to be able to bring up all my commits for the day in a single place Forgetting to pull one repo or another is a gotcha On the other hand, I've used perforce a lot and its one giant repository model has lots of warts too. Perforce has features designed to let help you with those, git doesn't. Has anyone else run into this situation? How did you handle it? What worked well, and what didn't?

Pass the return type as a parameter in java?

I have some files that contain logs of objects. Each file can store objects of a different type, but a single file is homogeneous -- it only stores objects of a single type. I would like to write a method that returns an array of these objects, and have the array be of a specified type (the type of objects in a file is known and can be passed as a parameter). Roughly, what I want is something like the following: public static <T> T[] parseLog(File log, Class<T> cls) throws Exception { ArrayList<T> objList = new ArrayList<T>(); FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(log); ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(fis); try { Object obj; while (!((obj = in.readObject()) instanceof EOFObject)) { T tobj = (T) obj; objList.add(tobj); } } finally { in.close(); } return objList.toArray(new T[0]); } The above code doesn't compile (there's an error on the return statement, and a warning on the cast), but it should give you the idea of what I'm trying to do. Any suggestions for the best way to do this?
