  • How to develop a site for multiple browsers these days ?

    - by Misha Moroshko
I would like to develop a site that works in all major browsers. I wonder what tools are available these days that may help me to check the functionality across browsers. I mean after I add some functionality to my site, I want to check it in all browsers. Are there any tools/software for this task ? I understand that it's impossible to check everything because it is pretty subjective if something works as expected or not, but maybe there are some tools that may found major errors (like IE is not supporting indexOf).

  • Making text align equally in both IE and Chrome

    - by bobo
<style type="text/css"> h2{ font-size:13px; line-height:16px; color:#000000; margin:0; padding:6px 22px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; } div{ border:1px solid black; } </style> <div> <h2> ????????</h2> </div> Pasting the above codes here: http://htmledit.squarefree.com/ You will see that the text stays a little bit higher in the div in IE than in Chrome, I would like to make them consistent. By adding a &nbsp; after the text within the <h2>in IE, the text will automatically move up, which is consistent with Chrome. But I don't quite like this hack, so I would like to know if anybody knows what problem this is and recommends a better way to fix it if possible. Many thanks to you all. Note: this problem does not appear if the text is english only.

  • Microsoft Project opensource alternatives

    - by dcrodjer
I have been recommended to use the Microsoft project as a project manager in my course. But being a opensource fan and linux user what will be the best opensource alternative to this. I have seen this question: Open Source Alternative to Microsoft Project?, which suggests to use openproj. Openproj's last version was released 2 years back so I was thinking otherwise. Also following the wiki project management softwares comparison, I found out there are lot of opensource alternatives. Some software in the list with maximum features I found out are: Endevour eGroupWare (web based) Onepoint Project Project.net Project-Open Redmine web2project (web based) Could anyone recommend what is the best (or most popular) alternative. Thanks

  • Array.sort Sorting Stability in Different Browsers

    - by Boushley
What is the stability of Array.sort in different browsers. I know that the ECMA Script specification does not specify which algorithm to use, nor does it specify whether the sort should be stable. I've found this information on for Firefox https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Core_JavaScript_1.5_Reference/Global_Objects/Array/sort which specifies that firefox uses a stable sort. Does anyone know about IE 6/7/8, Chrome, Safari?

  • .NET Application using a native DLL (build management)

    - by moogs
I have a .NET app that is dependent on a native DLL. I have the .NET app set as AnyCPU. In the post-build step, I plan to copy the correct native DLL from some directory (x86 or AMD64) and place it in the target path. However, this doesn't work. On a 64-bit machine, the environment variable PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE is "x86" in Visual Studio. My alternative right now is to create a small tool that outputs the processor architecture. This will be used by the post-build step. Is there a better alternative? (Side Note: when deploying/packaging the app, the right native DLL is copied to the right platform. But this means we have two separate release folders for x86 and AMD64, which is OK since this is for a device driver. The app is a utility tool for the driver).

  • Why does having a transitional doctype, cause my javascript to fail in WebKit and Opera Browsers

    - by morgenmuffel
Hi all I am trying to get a mouseover script to work, when there is no doctype set the script works fine in all browsers I test, but the site looks like a dogs breakfast However When i set the doctype to transitional (it has to be this doctype) Firefox and IE8 (&compat mode) work fine But Opera and the webkit browsers can only display the popup above the page fold, so if you scroll down the page and go over an image the popup appears above the visible page. And I can't figure out why, there are a couple of instances of document.all in the code, but my attempts to replace these have broken the code, besides the fact it works in Firefox and not Opera makes me think that document.all is not the issue Any help would be appreciated, even just telling me why a doctype would effect Javascript would be a help. Here is the site without a doctype As I can't post 2 links, being a new user and all, follow the link above and change and change the url from noodle3 to noodle to see the site with a doctype

  • jq div display script webkit issues

    - by Tom
$(document).ready(function() { $('#chekboxes a').click(function(e) { $('.visible').removeClass('visible').addClass('invisible'); var thediv = $(this).attr('href'); $(thediv).removeClass('invisible').addClass('visible'); }) }); This simple bit of jq works in FF and not in Chrome and Safari. Despite googling widely, I cannot tell whether there's a way to make it work in Safari and Chrome or not. Does anyone know a fix or what is wrong ? Thanks, Tom

  • Can I get consistent CSS colors across browsers?

    - by Trevor Burnham
I'm testing a new site, and I have a div with background-color: #bbf6bb; That seems innocuous enough to me. And yet, on my MacBook Pro, the color looks very different in Firefox 3.6 vs. Safari 4. In Safari, it's the color I'd expect from the hex value: a pale green. In Firefox, there's a definite bluish tint, making the color turquoise. I'm aware of color inconsistencies that result from different treatment of images across browsers, but in pure CSS? Really? I'm guessing that Firefox trying to correct for my display in hopes of delivering better consistency with print, but I'd much rather have my site look the same hue to my users regardless of their choice of browser. Any ideas? Can someone confirm that Firefox is the culprit here? [Update: This seems to have been a fluke. Specifically, it's a narrow issue with Firefox—see my answer below. I'm puzzled, but relieved.]

  • Where can I find a tool to convert a VS solution to a gcc makefile?

    - by Tim
I know about CMake and bakefile already, but that is not what I am looking for. Is there a tool that will generate a makefile given a VC project? (or at least a first attempt at one) so I don't have to do all the work by hand? Alternatively, is there a tool that makes CMake files? Edit: Following the link below leads me to this: http://www.winehq.org/docs/winemaker That is a great help. I have not tried it yet.
