• Posting from JQuery to WCF Service

  Hello, I have a WCF Service (called "myservice.svc") that takes a message from a user and saves it to the database. It returns a response to the user in the form of a number. This operation looks like this: [OperationContract] [WebGet] public string SubmitMessage(string message) { try { // SAVE TO DATABASE return "1"; } catch (Exception ex) { return "0"; } } I want to call this operation from some JQuery. I'm using the approach shown here: $.getJSON( "/services/myService.svc", {message:"some text"}, function (data) { alert("success"); } ); Oddly, the "success" alert is never displayed. In addition, I have set a breakpoint in my WCF service and it is never being tripped. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

• SSRS: Report loading external images, image not found, can I hide the image control

  My SSRS report loads logo images for each customer from a customer number specific folder on the report server. I write an expression, to form my URL to the image based on th customer number. ..."http://localhost/images/" + iCustomerNumber.ToString() + "/logo.gif" I am able to get this working, but the problem I face is, when a particular customer doesn't has an image, then my report shows a red X mark in place of the logo. In this case, I expect to hide the image control itself. Any thoughts???? The other dirty solution will be to ensure that each customer specific folder has the designated image! even if there is no logo for a customer, I'll place a blank.gif or a spacer.gif of probably a square pixel in dimension!.

• Binding scattered/overlapping images to a WPF Canvas

  I am porting a GDI application over to WPF, where I displayed several dozen images onto Form, then drew polygons, circles, rectangles, etc over the top of these images using GDI Pens and Brushes. I'm starting to get the hang of WPF binding and would like to store all of these images and markup graphics in my ViewModel. My VM contains an ObservableCollection of my custom DrawingEntitys, DrawingEntity contains DependencyProperties for BitmapSource, Height, Width, CanvasTopLeftY, and CanvasTopLeftX, that I update frequently in the collection. I know my binding is working, I just can't figure out how to bind and draw this collection onto a Canvas. I've played around with ItemsControl and ItemsSource to death, too many different ways to list here. I can display the DrawingEntity.Bitmaps onto the canvas but Canvas.Top won't bind to CanvasTopLeftY in the DrawingEntity, everything is overlapped at 0,0. I think I'm missing an obvious strategy. Any ideas?

• How many repositories should I use to maintain my scripts under version control?

  I mainly code small programs for myself, but recently, I've been starting to code for my peers on my team. To that end, I've started using a Mercurial repository to maintain my code in some form of version control (specifically, Tortoise-Hg on Windows). I have many small scripts, each in their own directory, all under one repository. However, while reading Joel's Hg Tutorial, I tried cloning a directory for one of my bigger scripts to create a "stable" version and found I couldn't do it because the directory wasn't itself a repository. So, I assume (and please correct me if I'm mistaken) that in order to use cloning properly, I'd have to create a repository for each script/directory. But.. would that be a "good idea" or a future maintenance nightmare waiting to happen? Succinctly, do I keep all my (unrelated) scripts in one repository, or should I create a repository for each? Or some unknown third option?

• Facebox adding commas to input

  I'm using a facebox to display a form inside a lightbox, nothing too exciting (just a couple of datepickers, some textboxes and a checkbox). However, I'm having issues with the postbacks, whenever I post back from the facebox it adds a ',' to the start of the input (so "rabbit" becomes ",rabbit") Now, I saw that there was the same issue with the modalpopup extender from the ajaxcontroltoolkit, so I assume it's a common issue. Can anyone either explain why this is happening, or tell me how to fix it? provide a decent way of fixing this? I have actually done it, and it works very nicely, but I don't really want to answer my own bounty question so someone else give it a go! • Have VB.Net 2010 ErrorProvider Fire on Tabbing Out of BindingSource TextBox on a WinForm

  I have a TextBox control on a Windows Form that uses a DataSource custom object as its BindingSource. I have associated an ErrorProvider with the BindingSource like so: Dim dobExample As New DOExample ExampleBS.DataSource = dobExample epExample.DataSource = ExampleBS The ErrorProvider fires if I type a blank space in the TextBox and then press Tab to move to the next control, which is correct. But it doesn't fire if I just press Tab without entering anything. I want the ErrorProvider to show the Error, even if the TextBox is empty and not just validate when there is text in the TextBox. How do I accomplish this? As an additional bit of info, when I execute the following statement: epDOContact.GetError(TextBox) an empty string is returned even though the TextBox is empty when it is required to be present.

By default the posts are sorted based on "created date". I have a new requirement from the client asking me to change the sorting criteria to "Published date". What is the easiest method to achieve this without using SharePoint Designer . Note: Creating a new view is not a solution as I will not be able to apply the customized design.

  Hi all, I'm using jQuery to post HTTP requests to my PHP page (Apache/Linux, if that matters). I carefully validate on the client so that empty requests are not sent. However on occasions, I'd get an empty request like this: - $_POST collection empty ($_GET collection also empty); - Content-Length is nonzero (a number below 100, consistent with a valid POST from my script) - Content-Type properly application/x-www-form-urlencoded - reading from php://input yields an empty string It's as if $_POST is somehow eaten on the way. I checked the code very carefully - I don't do anything to the contents of $_POST. Any ideas, please?

• How to make TinyMCE work inside an UpdatePanel?

  I'm trying to do something that many people seem to have been able to do but which I am unable to implement any solution. The TinyMCE control works pretty well in an asp.net form until you enclose it with an UpdatePanel, which then breaks after postback. I have tried some fixes like the RegisterClientScriptBlock method, but am still unsuccessful, I still lose the tinyMCE control after postback. Below is a full test project (VS 2008) provided with a Control outside UpdatePanel and one inside, with a button on each to generate postback. Also in the project I have a EditorTest control which include commented code of some calls I tried, in case it gives anyone any ideas.   I need to write something in my html code to convert digits of form 0123456789 to ?????????? (Arabic digits). the number of visitors is generated by blog service. and I want to convert its digits to Arabic. Counter: ????? ????????????? : <BlogSky:Weblog Counter /> ??? the Persian part of above code mean 'Number of visitors' and 'Persons' (from left to right). but digits are represented in latin (0123...). Is it possible to write something like a function in html? i want it to be a global one for using in weblogs. Note: I don't know anything about web programming languages. (and don't want to learn!). • Selecting a UserControl from XAML

  I'm working on a problem right now where I need to embed a UserControl inside another UserControl. But, I need to determine at runtime which embedded UserControl to instantiate. This implies to me that some form of data binding and/or template selection mechanism has to be invoked, but I'm not sure how to proceed with the pure XAML approach. If I was to do this with code, I would define some sort of container control in the parent UserControl, and then in the code-behind, implement some logic which would instantiate the appropriate child UserControl and then insert it as Content into the specified container in the parent UserControl. Can this be done using only XAML, or is some sort of code-behind required?

  I scraped a bunch of pages using wget -m -k -E. The resulting files have names in the form foo.php?bar.html. Apache guesses everything after the ? is a query string, is there a way to tell it to ignore the ? as the query string delimiter (and see foo.php?bar.html as the requested file and not foo.php)? To save you a trip to wget manpage: -m : mirror recursively -E : foo.php?bar becomes foo.php?bar.html -k : convert links in pages (foo.php?bar now links to foo.php?bar.html inside of all the pages so they display properly)

• How to make strtotime parse dates in Australian (i.e. UK) format: dd/mm/yyyy?

  I can't beleive I've never come across this one before. Basically, I'm parsing the text in human-created text documents and one of the fields I need to parse is a date and time. Because I'm in Australia, dates are formatted like dd/mm/yyyy but strtotime only wants to parse it as a US formatted date. Also, exploding by / isn't going to work because, as I mentioned, these documents are hand-typed and some of them take the form of d M yy. I've tried multiple combinations of setlocale but no matter what I try, the language is always set to US English. I'm fairly sure setlocale is the key here, but I don't seem to be able to strike upon the right code. Tried these: au au-en en_AU australia aus Anything else I can try? When form will created meaning onLoad it will display blank value(text box is empty). But now we want to check that number is existing then concate with some random number. • How does a virtual machine work?

  I've been looking into how programming languages work, and some of them have a so-called virtual machines. I understand that this is some form of emulation of the programming language within another programming language, and that it works like how a compiled language would be executed, with a stack. Did I get that right? With the proviso that I did, what bamboozles me is that many non-compiled languages allow variables with "liberal" type systems. In Python for example, I can write this: x = "Hello world!" x = 2**1000 Strings and big integers are completely unrelated and occupy different amounts of space in memory, so how can this code even be represented in a stack-based environment? What exactly happens here? Is x pointed to a new place on the stack and the old string data left unreferenced? Do these languages not use a stack? If not, how do they represent variables internally?

  I'm trying to accomplish an undock effect for a custom Swing JComponent. By default the component is used inside a form along with other components. I want to be able to maximize this component to use the whole screen and then be able to dock it again. • Databind List Of Objects To A WinForms DataGridView, But Not Show Certain Public Properties

  I'm not even sure if i'm doing this correctly. But basically I have a list of objects that are built out of a class. From there, I am binding the list to a datagrid view that is on a Windows Form (C#) From there, it shows all the public properties of the object, in the datagrid view. However there is some properties that i still need accessible from other parts of my application, but aren't really required to be visible in the DataGridView. So is there an attribute or something similar that I can write above the property to exclude it from being shown. P.S. Im binding at runtime. So i cannot edit the columns via the designer. P.P.S. Please no answers of just making public variables (Although if that is the only way, let me know :)).

Additionally, any of these numbers (and any preceding .) may be missing.   I'm looking for something like the Windows Media Player control that can be hosted on a form. The WMP doesn't work for me because I need a control that can play a continuously-appended playlist of AVI files in sequence, so that the transition from one file to the next happens seamlessly (i.e. without any glitches or pauses in the video and audio). With WMP, there's always a delay between files of half a second or so. Does anyone know of a control (it can be either commercial or open-source) that can do this? I assume anything like this wraps DirectX, and that's OK too.

  We are building a website that contains a large number of database tables that need to be edited by the CMS administrator. Some of the tables are fed by form submissions from users on the front end of the website. Some of the tables are purely in the CMS and are used to create custom modules on the front end of the website. Although there is a forms module in Drupal, I think our requirements cannot be met by it. Does anyone know of a system that allows forms to be saved to a CRUD style database with the following features? Export of all database fields. View a summary of the records in a filterable table. With paging You can have one to many relationships in records eg To code this manually for 10 forms is A LOT of work. Particularly the one to many relationships. If there is a powerful module available it would save us writing one.
