• Slow insert speed in Postgresql memory tablespace

  Hi, I have a requirement where I need to store the records at rate of 10,000 records/sec into a database (with indexing on a few fields). Number of columns in one record is 25. I am doing a batch insert of 100,000 records in one transaction block. To improve the insertion rate, I changed the tablespace from disk to RAM.With that I am able to achieve only 5,000 inserts per second. I have also done the following tuning in the postgres config: Indexes : no fsync : false logging : disabled Other information: - Tablespace : RAM - Number of columns in one row : 25 (mostly integers) - CPU : 4 core, 2.5 GHz - RAM : 48 GB I am wondering why a single insert query is taking around 0.2 msec on average when database is not writing anything on disk (as I am using RAM based tablespace). Is there something I am doing wrong? Help appreciated. Prashant

• Can squid forward DNS queries to a DNS server?

  This might something be completely impossible to achieve, but before I give it a shot thought I might get some advice from a fellow geek. Would squid proxy DNS queries as well? I would like to forward DNS queries to go through squid and use squid's DNS error page, of course by customizing it. I see the DNS queries are hitting my squid box on UDP port 53. I can setup a port forwarding so that all these queries get sent to squid's port 3128. But would squid understand its a DNS query and forward those queries to the dns server set in squid.conf? I hope my question is clear but please shout up and I would be glad to give you some more info if needed. Thanks guys!

• strange output in ubuntu terminal when running a lex program

  Hi. I'm running a lexical analyzer using lex, and I've got it mostly correct, but my terminal gives strange output once I take out an ECHO statement I was using to help debug the code. Once I take out the ECHO statement, I instead get this: max@Max-Ubuntu:~/Desktop/Compiler Project/project2$ ./a.out <../cmmFiles/expression.cmm }F(ID!=FALSE)ID(NUM);ELSEID(NUM);; It looks like it's only outputting the final line, except with an extraneous } near the beginning, what looks like half an IF token immediately after, and an extraneous ; at the end. Is this some quirk of my terminal, or does removing that ECHO cause my lexer to screw up that badly? I'm hesitant to keep working until I know for sure what's going on here. Thanks for any answers.   I made a package which I can use like this: select * from table(my_package.my_function(99, 'something, something2', 1, 50)) I make use of the package in a stored procedure. Sample stored procedure looks like: insert into something values(...) from (select * from table(my_package.my_function(99, 'something, something2', 1, 50))) a other_table b where b.something1 = a.something1; open cv_1 for select count(*) from table(my_package.my_function(99, 'something, something2', 1, 50)) So I am calling the same package twice. first time to match records with other tables and other stuff and second time to get the count. Is there a way to get the count first time around and put it into a variable and second time around I just pick that variable rather than calling the whole query again? Hope it makes sense.

I want to run a RegEx query in java that gives me the Strings 'UMLS concept ID', semantic type and match map list.   The title for this question pretty much sums up what I'm asking. I've got a list of taxonomy terms, and I'm using a view to display the latest post to each one. I'd like to also display a custom field set up in CCK just under this. Currently, I'm just using "date updated" of the taxonomy term itself which was easy to set up in views. I'd like to drill a little deeper and get the custom "event date" field I've added to the content type last posted to the taxonomy term I'm "viewing". I've got a feeling I'm going to have to write my own database query for this. If (I can avoid that){ How do I set up such a view? } Else{ What's the best practice for including lower level database queries alongside views? }

In the home view (index.haml), I list the Questions like this: - @questions.each do |q| %tr %td =link_to q.title, q Next to each of those, I want to add a link that will create a new Answer and pass the id of the Question in that row (continued from the above Haml code) : %td #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, pass q.id here somehow?} I don't know how to properly pass it and then access it in AnswersController. I tried #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, :question_id => q.id}, but that was just a guess, and I don't know how to access that in AnswersController. I read the Rails API docs, and I know you can add query, too, but I still don't know how to access the value in AnswersController.

The key has been inferred and the definition was created as a read-only table/view." And it decides that the CompletedDateTime field will be this entity primary key. We are using EdmGen to generate the model. Is there a way not to have the entity framework include any field of this view as a primary key? Thanks for help.

  We are experiencing high volume of PageIOLatch_SH waits on our database (row counts in the Billions). However it seems that our drive Idle time Percentage hovers around 50-60 percent. CPU usage is nill. The Database Tuning Advisor gives no suggestions for optimization. The query plan (actual) from the single stored procedure used on the database puts the majority of the expense on index seek (yeah I know these should be optimial) operations. Anyone have suggestions of how to increase throughput?

  Can somebody tell me, why does Linq to Entities translate many to 1 relationships to left outer join instead of inner join? Because there's referential constraint on DB itself that ensures there's a record in the right table, so inner join should be used instead (and it would work much faster) If relation was many to 0..1 left outer join would be correct. Question Is it possible to write LINQ in a way so it will translate to inner join rather than left outer join. It would speed query execution a lot... I haven't used eSQL before, but would it be wise to use it in instead of LINQ? Edit I updated my tags to include technology I'm using in the background: Entity Framework V1 Devart dotConnect for Mysql MySql database If someone could test if the same is true on Microsoft SQL server it would also give me some insight if this is Devart's issue or it's a general L2EF functionality... But I suspect EF is the culprit here.

But, I would like to re-use the existing pagination mechanism and just enable the ability to support DataModelSelection on it. I am also assuming that DataModelSelection is capable of tracking a single row in a List, how do we extend this to support a certain action (say deletion, activation ...) of multiple rows. I am a newbie and would appreciate any help on this topic. I have already gone through the samples shipped as part of Seam (booking, message). I have already posted this in seam users forum, but I am yet to get a response

  I have a lot of embedded C/C++/Ada experience and an outdated smattering of Delphi plus some database stuff. Now I have to implement an app in Delphi which can manipulate MySql, Oracle, maybe MS Acess. In short, I need ODBC. I need to programatically created a database, define its structure and populate its contents, then later query its existence and programatically search. I would prefer not to use 3rd party components, unless there is a compelling reason to do so (performance ought not to be an issue for the app, it won't have much data or be run often, at least not in v1.0) . Can anyone point me at a tutorial which can get me up to speed? Thanks

  So, I am learning Javascript while playing white Google Calendar APIs and I just can't figure how this piece of code is working this way: var entriesResult = []; var data = new Date(2010,3,22,17,0,0); var callback = function(result) { var entries = result.feed.getEntries(); if (entries.length != 0) { entriesResult = eventsManager(entries, 0, data); window.alert("inner entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); } } this.service.getEventsFeed(this.query, callback, handleGDError); window.alert("outer entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); eventsManager() is a function that returns an array of Objects. getEventsFeed() it's an API function: it queries the service and pass a "feed root" (a feed with selected items) to the callback function. Why the first alert (inner..) outputs a valid entriesResult.length while the second one (outer..) always outputs a 0? I tought javascript arrays are always passed by reference, what's wrong whit my code? Thank you :)

• YouTube API Get all videos uploaded feed

  Hi Guys, I can't seem to retrieve ALL videos from a particular channel on YouTube, despite the API giving example code that should perform just that. I'm using Java. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads The above rss feed is the URL they suggest using along with the following sample code.. /*init the list*/ String feedUrl = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads"; VideoFeed videoFeeder = null; videoFeeder = serviceobject.getFeed(new URL(feedUrl), VideoFeed.class); Looping this with a for loop suggests 25 entries (as per the RSS). However - the actual number of videos uploaded is significantly larger. (662 at time of writing). My query is how on earth you retrieve everything with the API, not just a subset of the data. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Should I be using a different URL? http://www.youtube.com/GoogleDevelopers#g/a

• Safari will not redirect to querystring URL

  I have a site built with PHP that does a redirect after certain actions are performed. header("Location: http://example.com/accountArea/?v=updated"); I then show a message based on the value of the query string value. In safari (and only in Safari) after the redirect, you will only see a blank page. I have tried using absolute URL and relative URL in my redirect, neither work. I was unable to find a solution by searching the web so I hope someone here is familiar with this.
