  • New Features Of WordPress 3.3 You Must Know

    - by Gopinath
    After months of beta testing, WordPress 3.3 version is going to be released at the end of this month. There are several new features packed in the new version and few of them are going to excite WordPress admins. In this post we are going to discuss about the exciting new features. 1. Drag and Drop Media Uploads One of the biggest improvements in this version of WordPress is it’s all new media uploader. Now you can upload multiple files by just dragging & dropping, instantly resize  the images and filter files by their type. The media upload sports a brand new look WordPress adopted the Pupload plugin to power its media uploader component and it’s written by the same team who created the popular TinyMCE editor plugin. 2. Improved Admin Bar(Toolbar) The admin bar or newly called toolbar has got handful of makeovers. The not so much used items like Search box and other elements are removed to make sure that the bar is not clumsy. The user menu and the related options are moved to the right like how we see in Google’s user bar. Also there are few changes to the colour of the bar to make it more eye friendly. 3. Fly out Admin Menus All the left side bar menus of WordPress admin are now sports a fly out menu style to save a click. In the previous versions if you want to access a sub menu on the left side bar, you need to first click on the category and then choose the menu item from the expanded list. Now on just mouse over you will see a flyout of menu items. 4. Adaptive Admin – Layout Auto Adjust To Fit Various Devices If you own an iPad or any other so called tablets then you are going to love this feature. The admin site of WordPress has got a lot more friendly with tablets and smartphones. WordPress now auto adjusts layout to fit the device through which you are accessing the admin site.  Accessing admin dashboard on your tablets is going to be more fun. 5. Other Features Now that we have read the most useful 4 features here is a small list of other features that may interest you Nice Tooltips are displayed where ever possible to help the newbies to understand the usage of admin site Responsive Layouts jQuery 1.7 and jQuery UI 1.8.16 are the power horses of WordPress Performance improvements This article titled,New Features Of WordPress 3.3 You Must Know, was originally published at Tech Dreams. • Which Aliases do you find most useful or helpful to your Ubuntu experience?

    - by Andy Groff
    Since first becoming an Ubuntu user I have developed a growing list of aliases, and there are some that I cannot imagine being without. This makes me think that there are probably still tons of aliases that I haven't thought to use which could make the lives of me and fellow ubuntu users easier. What aliases do you guys use which are: general - they apply to lots of users helpful - you use them often or they save a lot of time when you do use them

  • Is there a mirror for the daily Natty ISO (/daily-live/current) in Asia?

    - by Jon
    I've been trying to download Natty for days now, but either the internet here in Vietnam is totally shot or the Ubuntu CD server has a lot of traffic, because I can't get it to download faster than about 15Kbps. Does anyone know of a mirror, preferably close to Vietnam, where I could download (zsync) this image faster? Googling hasn't helped me, nor has Ubuntu's list of mirrors (I get stuck in a rabbithole of FTP folders, and nothing seems to point to the daily image).

  • Can the parameters of the Music Lens be edited?

    - by Ryan McClure
    I primarily listen to classical music on my laptop. Since I'm obsessed with specifics with my music, I am precise with how I label my genres (Opera, Symphony, Chorale, etc.). Is there a way to edit the Music Lens so that instead of listing "Blues, Classic, Country..." it could list custom parameters? Could the same be done for the "Decade" parameter? Maybe make it "Century", since I have music from back in the 1400's :)

  • Correct microdata and/or microformats for real estate listings?

    - by Ernests Karlsons
    Given I am running a real estate rentals listing website, what would be the correct microdata or microformats for the listing pages? There is the usual data: address, photos, price, start date, possible end date, person who is renting it out, list of amenities, description etc. Are there also microformats/microdata that can be used in the listing summary page (e.g., page that displays all listings in a particular city)?

  • Is it OK to repeat code for unit tests?

    - by Pete
    I wrote some sorting algorithms for a class assignment and I also wrote a few tests to make sure the algorithms were implemented correctly. My tests are only like 10 lines long and there are 3 of them but only 1 line changes between the 3 so there is a lot of repeated code. Is it better to refactor this code into another method that is then called from each test? Wouldn't I then need to write another test to test the refactoring? Some of the variables can even be moved up to the class level. Should testing classes and methods follow the same rules as regular classes/methods? Here's an example: [TestMethod] public void MergeSortAssertArrayIsSorted() { int[] a = new int[1000]; Random rand = new Random(DateTime.Now.Millisecond); for(int i = 0; i < a.Length; i++) { a[i] = rand.Next(Int16.MaxValue); } int[] b = new int[1000]; a.CopyTo(b, 0); List<int> temp = b.ToList(); temp.Sort(); b = temp.ToArray(); MergeSort merge = new MergeSort(); merge.mergeSort(a, 0, a.Length - 1); CollectionAssert.AreEqual(a, b); } [TestMethod] public void InsertionSortAssertArrayIsSorted() { int[] a = new int[1000]; Random rand = new Random(DateTime.Now.Millisecond); for (int i = 0; i < a.Length; i++) { a[i] = rand.Next(Int16.MaxValue); } int[] b = new int[1000]; a.CopyTo(b, 0); List<int> temp = b.ToList(); temp.Sort(); b = temp.ToArray(); InsertionSort merge = new InsertionSort(); merge.insertionSort(a); CollectionAssert.AreEqual(a, b); }

  • Using Dynamic LINQ to get a filter for my Web API

    - by Espo
    We are considering using the Dynamic.CS linq-sample included in the "Samples" directory of visual studio 2008 for our WebAPI project to allow clients to query our data. The interface would be something like this (In addition to the normal GET-methods): public HttpResponseMessage List(string filter = null); The plan is to use the dynamic library to parse the "filter"-variable and then execute the query agains the DB. Any thoughts if this is a good idea? Is it a security problem?

  • RTS style fog of war woes

    - by Fricken Hamster
    So I'm trying to make a rts style line of sight fog of war style engine for my grid based game. Currently I am getting a set of vertices by raycasting in 360 degree. Then I use that list of vertices to do a graphics style polygon scanline fill to get a list of all points within the polygon. The I compare the new list of seen tiles and compare that with the old one and increment or decrement the world vision array as needed. The polygon scanline function is giving me trouble. I'm mostly following this http://www.cs.uic.edu/~jbell/CourseNotes/ComputerGraphics/PolygonFilling.html So far this is my code without cleaning anything up var edgeMinX:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>; var edgeMinY:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>; var edgeMaxY:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>; var edgeInvSlope:Vector.<Number> = new Vector.<Number>; var ilen:int = outvert.length; var miny:int = -1; var maxy:int = -1; for (i = 0; i < ilen; i++) { var curpoint:Point = outvert[i]; if (i == ilen -1) { var nextpoint:Point = outvert[0]; } else { nextpoint = outvert[i + 1]; } if (nextpoint.y == curpoint.y) { continue; } if (curpoint.y < nextpoint.y) { var curslope:Number = ((nextpoint.y - curpoint.y) / (nextpoint.x - curpoint.x)); edgeMinY.push(curpoint.y); edgeMinX.push(curpoint.x); edgeMaxY.push(nextpoint.y); edgeInvSlope.push(1 / curslope); if (curpoint.y < miny || miny == -1) { miny = curpoint.y; } if (nextpoint.y > maxy) { maxy = nextpoint.y; } } else { curslope = ((curpoint.y - nextpoint.y) / (curpoint.x - nextpoint.x)); edgeMinY.push(nextpoint.y); edgeMinX.push(nextpoint.x); edgeMaxY.push(curpoint.y); edgeInvSlope.push(1 / curslope); if (nextpoint.y < miny || miny == -1) { miny = curpoint.y; } if (curpoint.y > maxy) { maxy = nextpoint.y; } } } var activeMaxY:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>; var activeCurX:Vector.<Number> = new Vector.<Number>; var activeInvSlope:Vector.<Number> = new Vector.<Number>; for (var scanline:int = miny; scanline < maxy + 1; scanline++) { ilen = edgeMinY.length; for (i = 0; i < ilen; i++) { if (edgeMinY[i] == scanline) { activeMaxY.push(edgeMaxY[i]); activeCurX.push(edgeMinX[i]); activeInvSlope.push(edgeInvSlope[i]); //trace("added(" + edgeMinX[i]); edgeMaxY.splice(i, 1); edgeMinX.splice(i, 1); edgeMinY.splice(i, 1); edgeInvSlope.splice(i, 1); i--; ilen--; } } ilen = activeCurX.length; for (i = 0; i < ilen - 1; i++) { for (var j:int = i; j < ilen - 1; j++) { if (activeCurX[j] > activeCurX[j + 1]) { var tempint:int = activeMaxY[j]; activeMaxY[j] = activeMaxY[j + 1]; activeMaxY[j + 1] = tempint; var tempnum:Number = activeCurX[j]; activeCurX[j] = activeCurX[j + 1]; activeCurX[j + 1] = tempnum; tempnum = activeInvSlope[j]; activeInvSlope[j] = activeInvSlope[j + 1]; activeInvSlope[j + 1] = tempnum; } } } var prevx:int = -1; var jlen:int = activeCurX.length; for (j = 0; j < jlen; j++) { if (prevx == -1) { prevx = activeCurX[j]; } else { for (var k:int = prevx; k < activeCurX[j]; k++) { graphics.lineStyle(2, 0x124132); graphics.drawCircle(k * 20 + 10, scanline * 20 + 10, 5); if (k == prevx || k > activeCurX[j] - 1) { graphics.lineStyle(3, 0x004132); graphics.drawCircle(k * 20 + 10, scanline * 20 + 10, 2); } prevx = -1; //tileLightList.push(k, scanline); } } } ilen = activeCurX.length; for (i = 0; i < ilen; i++) { if (activeMaxY[i] == scanline + 1) { activeCurX.splice(i, 1); activeMaxY.splice(i, 1); activeInvSlope.splice(i, 1); i--; ilen--; } else { activeCurX[i] += activeInvSlope[i]; } } } It works in some cases but some of the x intersections are skipped, primarily when there are more than 2 x intersections in one scanline I think. Is there a way to fix this, or a better way to do what I described? Thanks

  • TransportWithMessageCredential & Service Bus – Introduction

    - by Michael Stephenson
    Recently we have been working on a project using the Windows Azure Service Bus to expose line of business applications. One of the topics we discussed a lot was around the security aspects of the solution. Most of the samples you see for Windows Azure Service Bus often use the shared secret with the Access Control Service to protect the service bus endpoint but one of the problems we found was that with this scenario any claims resulting from credentials supplied by the client are not passed through to the service listening to the service bus endpoint. As an example of this we originally were hoping that we could give two different clients their own shared secret key and the issuer for each would indicate which client it was. If the claims had flown to the listening service then we could check that the message sent by client one was a type they are allowed to send. Unfortunately this claim isn't flown to the listening service so we were unable to implement this scenario. We had also seen samples that talk about changing the relayClientAuthenticationType attribute would allow you to authenticate the client within the service itself rather than with ACS. While this was interesting it wasn't exactly what we wanted. By removing the step where access to the Relay endpoint is protected by authentication against ACS it means that anyone could send messages via the service bus to the on-premise listening service which would then authenticate clients. In our scenario we certainly didn't want to allow clients to skip the ACS authentication step because this could open up two attack opportunities for an attacker. The first of these would allow an attacker to send messages through to our on-premise servers and potentially cause a denial of service situation. The second case would be with the same kind of attack by running lots of messages through service bus which were then rejected the attacker would be causing us to incur charges per message on our Windows Azure account. The correct way to implement our desired scenario is to combine one of the common options for authenticating against ACS so the service bus endpoint cannot be accessed by an unauthenticated caller with the normal WCF security features using the TransportWithMessageCredential security option. Looking around I could not find any guidance on how to implement this correctly so on the back of setting this up I decided to write a couple of articles to walk through a couple of the common scenarios you may be interested in. These are available on the following links: Walkthrough - Combining shared secret and username token Walkthrough – Combining shared secret and certificates

  • How to perform Cross Join with Linq

    - by berthin
    Cross join consists to perform a Cartesian product of two sets or sequences. The following example shows a simple Cartesian product of the sets A and B: A (a1, a2) B (b1, b2) => C (a1 b1,            a1 b2,            a2 b1,            a2, b2 ) is the Cartesian product's result. Linq to Sql allows using Cross join operations. Cross join is not equijoin, means that no predicate expression of equality in the Join clause of the query. To define a cross join query, you can use multiple from clauses. Note that there's no explicit operator for the cross join. In the following example, the query must join a sequence of Product with a sequence of Pricing Rules: 1: //Fill the data source 2: var products = new List<Product> 3: { 4: new Product{ProductID="P01",ProductName="Amaryl"}, 5: new Product {ProductID="P02", ProductName="acetaminophen"} 6: }; 7:  8: var pricingRules = new List<PricingRule> 9: { 10: new PricingRule {RuleID="R_1", RuleType="Free goods"}, 11: new PricingRule {RuleID="R_2", RuleType="Discount"}, 12: new PricingRule {RuleID="R_3", RuleType="Discount"} 13: }; 14: 15: //cross join query 16: var crossJoin = from p in products 17: from r in pricingRules 18: select new { ProductID = p.ProductID, RuleID = r.RuleID };   Below the definition of the two entities using in the above example.   1: public class Product 2: { 3: public string ProductID { get; set; } 4: public string ProductName { get; set; } 5: } 1: public class PricingRule 2: { 3: public string RuleID { get; set; } 4: public string RuleType { get; set; } 5: }   Doing this: 1: foreach (var result in crossJoin) 2: { 3: Console.WriteLine("({0} , {1})", result.ProductID, result.RuleID); 4: }   The output should be similar on this:   ( P01   -    R_1 )   ( P01   -    R_2 )   ( P01   -    R_3 )   ( P02   -    R_1 )   ( P02   -    R_2 )   ( P02   -    R_3) Conclusion Cross join operation is useful when performing a Cartesian product of two sequences object. However, it can produce very large result sets that may caused a problem of performance. So use with precautions :)

  • Just what SQL Azure needed? A compelling business feature–Reporting

  • Organizing single page code well with Notepad++

    - by Hudson
    I've a c# file that will contain, most likely 10,000+ lines of code. I'd like to break this file into tabbed segments, so I can organize each method into a certain tab and label the tab something like : initial setup, helper functions,execution logic,list structures,global variables, etc. If I were using PHP I would have separate files and use include(); to include the separate files. What can be done, following the same style, with c#?

  • Are closures with side-effects considered "functional style"?

    - by Giorgio
    Many modern programming languages support some concept of closure, i.e. of a piece of code (a block or a function) that Can be treated as a value, and therefore stored in a variable, passed around to different parts of the code, be defined in one part of a program and invoked in a totally different part of the same program. Can capture variables from the context in which it is defined, and access them when it is later invoked (possibly in a totally different context). Here is an example of a closure written in Scala: def filterList(xs: List[Int], lowerBound: Int): List[Int] = xs.filter(x => x >= lowerBound) The function literal x => x >= lowerBound contains the free variable lowerBound, which is closed (bound) by the argument of the function filterList that has the same name. The closure is passed to the library method filter, which can invoke it repeatedly as a normal function. I have been reading a lot of questions and answers on this site and, as far as I understand, the term closure is often automatically associated with functional programming and functional programming style. The definition of function programming on wikipedia reads: In computer science, functional programming is a programming paradigm that treats computation as the evaluation of mathematical functions and avoids state and mutable data. It emphasizes the application of functions, in contrast to the imperative programming style, which emphasizes changes in state. and further on [...] in functional code, the output value of a function depends only on the arguments that are input to the function [...]. Eliminating side effects can make it much easier to understand and predict the behavior of a program, which is one of the key motivations for the development of functional programming. On the other hand, many closure constructs provided by programming languages allow a closure to capture non-local variables and change them when the closure is invoked, thus producing a side effect on the environment in which they were defined. In this case, closures implement the first idea of functional programming (functions are first-class entities that can be moved around like other values) but neglect the second idea (avoiding side-effects). Is this use of closures with side effects considered functional style or are closures considered a more general construct that can be used both for a functional and a non-functional programming style? Is there any literature on this topic? IMPORTANT NOTE I am not questioning the usefulness of side-effects or of having closures with side effects. Also, I am not interested in a discussion about the advantages / disadvantages of closures with or without side effects. I am only interested to know if using such closures is still considered functional style by the proponent of functional programming or if, on the contrary, their use is discouraged when using a functional style.

  • Can't change color of sprites in unity

    - by Aceleeon
    I would like to create a script that targets a 2d sprite "enemy" and changes their color to red (slightly opaque red if possible) when you hit tab. I have this code from a 3d tutorial hoping the transition would work. But it does not. I only get the script to cycle the enemy tags but never changes the color of the sprite. I have the code below I'm very new to coding, and any help would be FANTASTIC! HELP! hahah. TL;DR Cant get 3d color targeting to work for 2D. Check out the c#code below using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; public class Targetting : MonoBehaviour { public List targets; public Transform selectedTarget; private Transform myTransform; // Use this for initialization void Start () { targets = new List(); selectedTarget = null; myTransform = transform; AddAllEnemies(); } public void AddAllEnemies() { GameObject[] go = GameObject.FindGameObjectsWithTag("Enemy"); foreach(GameObject enemy in go) AddTarget(enemy.transform); } public void AddTarget(Transform enemy) { targets.Add(enemy); } private void SortTargetsByDistance() { targets.Sort(delegate(Transform t1,Transform t2) { return Vector3.Distance(t1.position, myTransform.position).CompareTo(Vector3.Distance(t2.position, myTransform.position)); }); } private void TargetEnemy() { if(selectedTarget == null) { SortTargetsByDistance(); selectedTarget = targets[0]; } else { int index = targets.IndexOf(selectedTarget); if(index < targets.Count -1) { index++; } else { index = 0; } selectedTarget = targets[index]; } } private void SelectTarget() { selectedTarget.GetComponent().color = Color.red; } private void DeselectTarget() { selectedTarget.GetComponent().color = Color.blue; selectedTarget = null; } // Update is called once per frame void Update() { if(Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.Tab)) { TargetEnemy(); } } }

  • What's new in EJB 3.2 ? - Java EE 7 chugging along!

    - by arungupta
    EJB 3.1 added a whole ton of features for simplicity and ease-of-use such as @Singleton, @Asynchronous, @Schedule, Portable JNDI name, EJBContainer.createEJBContainer, EJB 3.1 Lite, and many others. As part of Java EE 7, EJB 3.2 (JSR 345) is making progress and this blog will provide highlights from the work done so far. This release has been particularly kept small but include several minor improvements and tweaks for usability. More features in EJB.Lite Asynchronous session bean Non-persistent EJB Timer service This also means these features can be used in embeddable EJB container and there by improving testability of your application. Pruning - The following features were made Proposed Optional in Java EE 6 and are now made optional. EJB 2.1 and earlier Entity Bean Component Contract for CMP and BMP Client View of an EJB 2.1 and earlier Entity Bean EJB QL: Query Language for CMP Query Methods JAX-RPC-based Web Service Endpoints and Client View The optional features are moved to a separate document and as a result EJB specification is now split into Core and Optional documents. This allows the specification to be more readable and better organized. Updates and Improvements Transactional lifecycle callbacks in Stateful Session Beans, only for CMT. In EJB 3.1, the transaction context for lifecyle callback methods (@PostConstruct, @PreDestroy, @PostActivate, @PrePassivate) are defined as shown. @PostConstruct @PreDestroy @PrePassivate @PostActivate Stateless Unspecified Unspecified N/A N/A Stateful Unspecified Unspecified Unspecified Unspecified Singleton Bean's transaction management type Bean's transaction management type N/A N/A In EJB 3.2, stateful session bean lifecycle callback methods can opt-in to be transactional. These methods are then executed in a transaction context as shown. @PostConstruct @PreDestroy @PrePassivate @PostActivate Stateless Unspecified Unspecified N/A N/A Stateful Bean's transaction management type Bean's transaction management type Bean's transaction management type Bean's transaction management type Singleton Bean's transaction management type Bean's transaction management type N/A N/A For example, the following stateful session bean require a new transaction to be started for @PostConstruct and @PreDestroy lifecycle callback methods. @Statefulpublic class HelloBean {   @PersistenceContext(type=PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED)   private EntityManager em;    @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW)   @PostConstruct   public void init() {        myEntity = em.find(...);   }   @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW)    @PostConstruct    public void destroy() {        em.flush();    }} Notice, by default the lifecycle callback methods are not transactional for backwards compatibility. They need to be explicitly opt-in to be made transactional. Opt-out of passivation for stateful session bean - If your stateful session bean needs to stick around or it has non-serializable field then the bean can be opt-out of passivation as shown. @Stateful(passivationCapable=false)public class HelloBean {    private NonSerializableType ref = ... . . .} Simplified the rules to define all local/remote views of the bean. For example, if the bean is defined as: @Statelesspublic class Bean implements Foo, Bar {    . . .} where Foo and Bar have no annotations of their own, then Foo and Bar are exposed as local views of the bean. The bean may be explicitly marked @Local as @Local@Statelesspublic class Bean implements Foo, Bar {    . . .} then this is the same behavior as explained above, i.e. Foo and Bar are local views. If the bean is marked @Remote as: @Remote@Statelesspublic class Bean implements Foo, Bar {    . . .} then Foo and Bar are remote views. If an interface is marked @Local or @Remote then each interface need to be explicitly marked explicitly to be exposed as a view. For example: @Remotepublic interface Foo { . . . }@Statelesspublic class Bean implements Foo, Bar {    . . .} only exposes one remote interface Foo. Section 4.9.7 from the specification provide more details about this feature. TimerService.getAllTimers is a newly added convenience API that returns all timers in the same bean. This is only for displaying the list of timers as the timer can only be canceled by its owner. Removed restriction to obtain the current class loader, and allow to use java.io package. This is handy if you want to do file access within your beans. JMS 2.0 alignment - A standard list of activation-config properties is now defined destinationLookup connectionFactoryLookup clientId subscriptionName shareSubscriptions Tons of other clarifications through out the spec. • Can I place the Ubuntu One for Windows home sync folder anywhere on C:\ during installation?
