• Amazon EC2 RSA key stopped authenticating - Permission denied (publickey)

  Authenticating to our Ubuntu EC2 instance worked fine until a little while ago. All of a sudden, the key is being rejected. When we create a new instance with the keypair, we're able to connect to the instance perfectly, so it appears to be an issue with the existing instance. Port 22 is open. Any suggestions on what to look at from a configuration standpoint so we can fix this? Any thoughts on how we can get into the box? Here is the SSH debug output. Is there anything obviously amiss? • Capture keystrokes (e.g., function keys) while a messagebox is up

  We have a large WinForms app, and there is a built-in bug reporting system that can be activated during testing via the F5 Key. I am capturing the F5 key with .Net's PreFilterMessage system. This works fine on the main forms, modal dialog boxes, etc. Unfortunately, the program also displays windows messageboxes when it needs to. When there is a bug with that, e.g., wrong text in the messagebox or it shouldn't be there, the messagefilter isn't executed at all when the messagebox is up! I realize I could fix it by either rewriting my own messagebox routine, or kicking off a separate thread that polls GetAsyncKeyState and calls the error reporter from there. However I was hoping for a method that was less of a hack. • Checking if a RoutedEvent has any handlers

  I've got a custom Button class, that always performs the same action when it gets clicked (opening a specific window). I'm adding a Click event that can be assigned in the button's XAML, like a regular button. When it gets clicked, I want to execute the Click event handler if one has been assigned, otherwise I want to execute the default action. The problem is that there's apparently no way to check if any handlers have been added to an event. I thought a null check on the event would do it: if (Click == null) { DefaultClickAction(); } else { RaiseEvent(new RoutedEventArgs(ClickEvent, this));; } ...but that doesn't compile. The compiler tells me that I can't do anything other than += or -= to an event outside of the defining class, event though I'm trying to do this check INSIDE the defining class. I've implemented the correct behavior myself, but it's ugly and verbose and I can't believe there isn't a built-in way to do this. I must be missing something. • Custom IIdentity and passing data from an attribute to a controller

  Here's my scenario: I've successfully created a custom IIdentity that I pass to a GenericPrincipal. When I access that IIdentity in my controller I have to cast the IIdentity in order to use the custom properties. example: public ActionResult Test() { MyCustomIdentity identity = (MyCustomIdentity)User.Identity; int userID = identity.UserID; ...etc... } Since I need to do this casting for nearly every action I would like to wrap this functionality in an ActionFilterAttribute. I can't do it in the controller's constructor because the context isn't initialized yet. My thought would be to have the ActionFilterAttribute populate a private property on the controller that I can use in each action method. example: public class TestController : Controller { private MyCustomIdentity identity; [CastCustomIdentity] public ActionResult() { int userID = identity.UserID; ...etc... } } Question: Is this possible and how? Is there a better solution? I've racked my brain trying to figure out how to pass public properties that are populated in an attribute to the controller and I can't get it.

  Hi I have a DataGridView control and I want to populate it with data. The class of my collection does not contain only simple types that I can map to columns using DataPropertyName. But if I try to write col2.DataPropertyName = "otherclass.Name" I get empty cell. • Custom Event - invokation list implementation considerations

  I'm looking for some pointers on implementing Custom Events in VB.NET (Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5). I know that "regular" (non-custom) Events are actually Delegates, so I was thinking of using Delegates when implementing a Custom Event. On the other hand, Andrew Troelsen's "Pro VB 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform" book uses Collection types in all his Custom Events examples, and Microsoft's sample codes match that line of thought. So my question is: what considerations should I have when choosing one design over the other? What are the pros and cons for each design? Which of these resembles the inner-implementation of "regular" events? Below is a sample code demonstrating the two designs. • Java Generics: Dealing with an intermediate unknown type

  I am trying to figure out a way to deal with a particular problem in a type safe manner, or to put it more specifically without any explicit casts. I have a class that takes in a generic request and returns a generic response like such: public class RetrievalProcessor<Req extends Request, Resp> implements RequestProcessor<Req, Resp>{ private Dao<Req> dao; private RawResponseTransformer<Resp> transformer; @Override public Resp process(Req request) { return transformer.transformResponse(dao.retrieveRawResponse(request)); } } My problem is the following. My Dao object can be many different things REST, JDBC, some other proprietary object. I can't be certain of the type of object that the Dao will return. I do know the type of object my caller would like and that is the Resp type on the generic, and the job of the RawResponseTransformer is to transform that Dao response into something that the caller can consume. The problem I have is I can't figure out a way that feels clean to do that. I have considered putting the intermediate type as part of the definition of the class, but it doesn't seem like the caller should know, or really care, what the intermediate form is. Hoping someone might have a good clean idea for handling this.

This prevents creation of a GUID. • TVirtualStringTree - resetting non-visual nodes and memory consumption

  I have an app that loads records from a binary log file and displays them in a virtual TListView. There are potentially millions of records in a file, and the display can be filtered by the user, so I do not load all of the records in memory at one time, and the ListView item indexes are not a 1-to-1 relation with the file record offsets (List item 1 may be file record 100, for instance). I use the ListView's OnDataHint event to load records for just the items the ListView is actually interested in. As the user scrolls around, the range specified by OnDataHint changes, allowing me to free records that are not in the new range, and allocate new records as needed. This works fine, speed is tolerable, and the memory footprint is very low. I am currently evaluating TVirtualStringTree as a replacement for the TListView, mainly because I want to add the ability to expand/collapse records that span multiple lines (I can fudge it with the TListView by incrementing/decrementing the item count dynamically, but this is not as straight forward as using a real tree). For the most part, I have been able to port the TListView logic and have everything work as I need. I notice that TVirtualStringTree's virtual paradigm is vastly different, though. It does not have the same kind of OnDataHint functionality that TListView does (I can use the OnScroll event to fake it, which allows my memory buffer logic to continue working), and I can use the OnInitializeNode event to associate nodes with records that are allocated. However, once a tree node is initialized, it sees that it remains initialized for the lifetime of the tree. That is not good for me. As the user scrolls around and I remove records from memory, I need to reset those non-visual nodes without removing them from the tree completely, or losing their expand/collapse states. When the user scrolls them back into view, I can re-allocate the records and re-initialize the nodes. Basically, I want to make TVirtualStringTree act as much like TListView as possible, as far as its virtualization is concerned. I have seen that TVirtualStringTree has a ResetNode() method, but I encounter various errors whenever I try to use it. I must be using it wrong. I also thought of just storing a data pointer inside each node to my record buffers, and I allocate and free memory, update those pointers accordingly. The end effect does not work so well, either. Worse, my largest test log file has ~5 million records in it. If I initialize the TVirtualStringTree with that many nodes at one time (when the log display is unfiltered), the tree's internal overhead for its nodes takes up a whopping 260MB of memory (without any records being allocated yet). Whereas with the TListView, loading the same log file and all the memory logic behind it, I can get away with using just a few MBs. Any ideas?

• Domain transfer from Yahoo to Godaddy. Google apps downtime

  I am moving my domain from Yahoo to Godaddy (cause yahoo charges ridiculously hugh amounts than others). My problem is I use this domain for Google apps and one of those is my custom email. So here are a few questions that I have - 1) Godaddy told me there is going to be a 48 hours of downtime. Is there anything that I can do to minimize the downtime? 2) Will I lose all the email that I get during this downtime? or they be stored in the cloud and bulk emailed me once my domain is up with Godaddy? If they are lost is there any workaround to forward them to my gmail during the downtime (i know sounds stupid, but I have to ask). Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• vbCrLf in Multiline TextBox shows up only when .Trim() is called

  I have an ASP TextBox with TextMode set to MultiLine. I'm having problems with preserving the vbCrLf characters when a user tries to put line breaks into the text. When a button on the page is pressed, I'm taking the text from the control, trimming it using String.Trim, and assigning that value to a String property on an object (which, in turn assigns it to a private internal String variable on the object). The object then takes the value from the private internal variable and throws it into the database using a stored procedure call (the SP parameter it is put into is an nvarchar(4000)).   I have few Question for which I am not able to get a proper answer . 1) Why should we call SuppressFinalize in the Dispose function when we dont have a destructor . 2) Dispose and finalize are used for freeing resources before the object is garbage collected. Whether it is managed or unmanaged resource we need to free it , then why we need a condition inside the dispose funtion , saying pass 'true' when we call this overriden function from IDisposable:Dispose and pass false when called from a finalize. • How can I implement NHibernate session per request without a dependency on NHibernate?

  I've raised this question before but am still struggling to find an example that I can get my head around (please don't just tell me to look at the S#arp Architecture project without at least some directions). So far I have achieved near persistance ignorance in my web project. All I am modifying is the Exercise 1 Solution program from the Notepad tutorial.

  I am using Symfony 1.3.2 with Propel ORM on Ubuntu 9.10. I am incorporating memcache to the website. I have modified the setup() method in apps/frontend/ProjectConfiguration.class.php like this: class ProjectConfiguration { public function setup() { // original SF generated code here .. require_one sfConfig::get('sf_lib_dir').'/MyCache.class.php'; myCache::init(); } } my cache singleton is implemented something like this: class MyCache { private static memcache = null; private static inited = false; public static init() { if (self::$inited) return; self::$memcache = new Memcache(); if (self::$memcache->connect('localhost', 11211) { // Do some stuff .. self::$inited = true; } } } Warning: Memcache::connect(0memcache.connect0): Can't connect to localhost:11211, Connection refused(111) in /path_to_class/MyCache.class.php This happens for both CLI (e.g. running SF tasks) or for web access through the browser. Does anyone know how to resolve this (I suspect its something to do with Linux user privileges). As an aside, I am aware that SF prvoides an sfAPCache wrapper class for cacheing. I am intentionally not using it for two reasons: I cannot find any comprehensive (and up to date) docs on this class I want to learn the memcache API directly, since I will be accesing it from other languages.

• VPN networking issue

  I have 2 servers hosted in the cloud. One an application server, one a VPN server, both running Win2008. Both have a local IP address assigned by DHCP in different network subnets, 10.227.55.0 (VPN) and 10.231.5.0 (App Server). These servers can ping each other. My VPN client connects in to the VPN server (using a L2TP connection on a Win7 client). It is assigned an IP Address from the VPN server's static pool (the VPN server takes 192.168.100.1, the client is given 192.168.100.2). The client can ping both the 192.168.100.1 address of the VPN server, and its 'local' IP address (10.227.55.X). What the client can't do is ping the App Server. How can I configure routing so that my client can access the App Server, without hard-coding any of the DHCP IP addresses anywhere? thanks Duncan

• Laravel - public layout not needed in every function

  I have just recently started working with Laravel. Great framework so far! However I have a question. But since no view is needed in this function, how do I tell Laravel not to include the layout in this function? The best solution that I my self have come a cross (don't know if this is a bad way?) is to unset($this -> layout); from function post_index()... To sum up my question: how do I tell Laravel not to include public $layout in certain functions, where a view is not needed? Thanks in advance, fischer
