  • Application Engineering and Number of Users

    - by Kramii
Apart from performance concerns, should web-based applications be built differently according to the number of (concurrent) users? If so, what are the main differences for (say) 4, 40, 400 and 4000 users? I'm particularly interested in how logging, error handling, design patterns etc. would be be used according to the number of concurrent users.

  • Using HTML Canvas for UI elements?

    - by Tower
Hi, I have a couple of UI elements such as buttons in my web application. I was going to use CSS3's transitions to animate the transition from one background-image to another. I figured out that it's not possible with the current transitions draft at least. So, I was wondering if it would make sense to use Canvas as the button. I'm sure it can handle events, so, I see no problems here. Are there any?

  • Easiest way to find previous instance of an application

    - by Yogi Yang 007
I have rewritten a VB6 based application developed in Delphi, which should have only one instance running. How can I do this with minimum of code? In VB6 we just have to use one single line of code If App.PrevInstance Then 'Take some action End If On goggling I did find a solution but it is very length and we have to mess with .drp file. I do not want to do that. I want something simpler.

  • Changing keyboard layout on application focus

    - by Anonymous Coward
Hi Everyone As everybody knows the en-US Keyboard-layout is the best one for programming. So I'd like to use it in my IDEs. But since I live in a non-en-US country I need the de-CH layout for all other applications. Now I wonder if it is possible to set the layout depending to which application currently has the focus. If that is possible, can a human brain adapt to such a behaviour or is it just confusing? cheers, AC

Is it possible to create a custom button -- web user control? I want certain java scripts to trigger when buttons are clicked. If so, are there any articles out there that explain the basics? • Is web-browser to Excel interprocess communication possible

    - by Abiel
Is is possible to write a browser plugin (one that requires the user to install something is OK) that would allow interprocess communication between the browser and a running instance of Excel (on Windows)? For example, suppose I want the user to be able to click something within their browser, and then have a piece of text drop into the selected cell in Excel as a result. This is certainly possible to do with a regular desktop application and Excel, but I'm not sure if it is possible with a browser, for security reasons.
