  • WCF .Net 4.0 is treating WebProtocolException as an unhandled exception

    Im trying to build an API using WCF and .Net 4, however when I throw the WebProtocolException, it is not displaying a nice error message like it should, instead it is treating it like an unhandled exception. I am using the WebServiceHost2Factory. Has anyone else used WebProtocolException with .net 4? An example of my call is below throw new WebProtocolException(System.Net.HttpStatusCode.BadRequest, "The DateFrom parameter is invalid", new Error() { Code = 6002, Message = "Please ensure your dates are in the following format: yyyy/MM/dd hh:mm:ss" }, null, null);

    I've got a function I wrote quite some time ago that works fine, but I'd like to speed up the process and lessen server load by doing the same job in Javascript. I seem to be able to GET textbox values ok, but I can't seem to SET textbox values (I'm'-a JS noob). Can anyone lend a hand in converting my VB.NET code to it's JS equivalent?   • RSA Encrypt in PHP to decrypt in .NET

    In PHP I am RSA encrypting a message to be decrypted by .NET application... but I keep getting a "Bad Key" exception from .NET.... For RSA encryption, I am using PEAR class Crypt_RSA- encrypting with the public key (which is a modulus, exponent pair) I get from working encryption system in .NET... I guess the easiest question would be- does "Bad Key" mean it is not able to decrypt the message whatsoever? IE, it is not encrypted correctly? The harder question is- Is there anything specific about RSA encryption that causes quirks between .NET and PHP?

    I have written a web scraping program to go to a list of pages and write all the html to a file. The problem is that when I pull a block of text some of the characters get written as '?'. How do I pull those characters into my text file?     I am checking out the OutputCacheProvider in ASP.NET 4.0 and using it to store my output cache into the MongoDb database. I am not able to understand the purpose of Add method which is one of the override methods for OutputCacheProvider. The Add method is invoked when you have VaryByParam set to something. So, if I have VaryByParam = "id" then the Add method will be invoked. But after the Add the Set is also invoked and I can insert into the MongoDb database inside the Set method. public override void Set(string key, object entry, DateTime utcExpiry) { // if there is something in the query and use the path and query to generate the key var url = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(url.Query)) { key = url.PathAndQuery; } Debug.WriteLine("Set(" + key + "," + entry + "," + utcExpiry + ")"); _service.Set(new CacheItem() { Key = MD5(key), Item = entry, Expires = utcExpiry }); } Inside the Set method I use the PathAndQuery to get the params of the QueryString and then do a MD5 on the key and save it into the MongoDb database. It seems like the Add method will be useful if I am doing something like VaryByParam = "custom" or something. Can anyone shed some light on the Add method of OutputCacheProvider?

I have chosen portobuf-net as it seems to be more stable (porto# is still v0.9 or I would have gone for it). Before I start working on it I wanted to be sure that I can achieve this (serializing data using java implementation and deserializing it using potobuf-net). Or is there any list of methods that are specific to portobuf-net implementation?

  • Why Won't My ASP.NET Hyperlink Work in IE?

    I'm making a very simple ad button system using ASP.NET 2.0 The advertisment is a 150x150px square that is displayed on "the r house." (Scroll down a little and you'll see the bright green "Angry Octopus" on the right side of the screen.) Now, I am not the administrator of "the r house." Instead, I am the administrator of angryoctopus.net Therefore, I don't have the ability to change the ad display code on a whim. So I gave "the r house" this snippet of code to display our ad nicely, while still allowing me to customize the back-end code on my end: <iframe src="http://www.angryoctopus.net/Content/Ad/150x150.aspx" frameborder="0" width="150" height="150" scrolling="no" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;"></iframe> You'll find this snippet in the page source to "the r house." On my side, the code looks like this: <asp:HyperLink runat="server" NavigateUrl="http://www.angryoctopus.net/" Target="_top"> <asp:Panel ID="pnlMain" runat="server" BackColor="#D1E231" style="padding: 0; margin: 0" Width="150" Height="150"> <asp:Image runat="server" ImageUrl="http://www.angryoctopus.net/Content/Ad/150x150.png" BorderStyle="None" style="padding: 0; margin: 0" /> </asp:Panel> </asp:HyperLink> ... and there's some insignificant back-end C# code for hit-counting. This looks all well and good from the code standpoint, as far as I can tell. Everything works in Firefox and Chrome. Also, everything appears to work in IE8 in all of my tests. I haven't tested IE7. But when you view "the r house" in IE(8) the hyperlink doesn't do anything, and the cursor doesn't indicate that the hyperlink is even there. Although you can see the target URL in the status bar. I've considered the fact that "the r house" uses XHTML 1.0 Strict could be causing problems, but that would probably effect Firefox and Chrome right? (My aspx pages use XHTML 1.0 Transitional) My only other theory is that some random CSS class could be applying a weird attribute to my iframe, but again I would expect that would effect Firefox and Chrome. Is this a security issue with IE? Does anyone know what part of the r house's website could be blocking the hyperlink in IE? And how can I get around this without having to hard code anything on the r house's website? Is there an alternative to iframe that would do the same job without requiring complicated scripting?

  • What's the best way to learn .NET?

    I've been developing Java EE for quite a while now. I've used WebLogic, Tomcat, Spring, and Hibernate extensively, so I have a mental model of what features are available and how things are developed and deployed. The problem that I have with .NET is that I don't have a clear mapping of its features onto Java EE. Here's what I know so far: Java EE - .NET Java - C# JAR - DLL WAR - ? (deployment in general) EAR - ? (deployment in general) Tomcat - IIS web server JSP - ASP? JDBC - ODBC JMS - MSMQ JTA - Microsoft Transaction Manager So much of the functionality that WebLogic handles appears to be dispersed throughout the Windows OS. My confusion kicks in when I see the waves of books at Borders - VB.NET, ASP.NET, C#, etc. If I'm not a VB programmer, would it be possible to stick with C# and write enterprise apps that are the equivalent of what I'm used to with Java EE? If there were a Top Three list of books to learn from, what would they be? The code behind is connected to the protected void Wizard1_NextButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) event. There are two items on the screen (two rows inside the table).   • JQuery Menu plugins under ASP.NET MVC seem to only work in Chrome, but not in IE & FireFox

    Recently, I was trying to prototype some jQuery-based menu into ASP.NET MVC. Just to name two examples here: plugins.jquery.com/project/columnview www.filamentgroup.com/lab/jquery_ipod_style_and_flyout_menus/ Their demo page looks great, but when I integrate their sample code into MVC, the script no longer works in IE and FireFox, but it seems to work just fine under Google Chrome. Can someone kindly enough to point out what I missed? I will be honest here. I am still new to JavaScript, so it is still a learning phase to me, so any help is highly appreciated. I have placed a copy of my VS2010 solution zip file @ http://db.tt/0UNDkN Here is what I did. In the Site.Master, I have something like <body> <div class="page">{truncated...}</div> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ScriptContent" runat="server" /> </body> And inside View file, I have the following <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <div id="original"> {some demo block, copied from javascript demo} </div> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content3" ContentPlaceHolderID="ScriptContent" runat="server"> <script type="text/javascript" src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.columnview.js") %>" /> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#original').columnview(); }); </script> </asp:Content> Compiled the code and ran it under IE. Ideally, it should work like the demo in www.christianyates.com/blog/jquery/finder-column-view-hierarchical-lists-jquery, but in reality, it only displays unordered list in plain view. (If you download the solution file and run it, you should be able to repro this as well). Next, tried with FireFox, not working either, same result as IE. Finally, when I try it under Google Chrome 4.1 (lastest version), and the script displays just fine. Really puzzling here :-/ Thank you for reading :D

  • Target .NET 3.5 C++/CLI in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

    Has anyone had any success converting a VS 2008 C++/CLI (vcproj) project to a VS 2010 project (vcxproj), whilst maintaining .NET 3.5 as the target framework? I haven't been able to do this and get the project to build successfully. The project compiles fine in VS2008 as .NET 3.5, and fine in VS2010 as .NET 4.0, but I am unable to target .NET 3.5 in 2010. The IDE doesn't seem to provide an option for it, and modifying the vcxproj file by adding <TargetFrameworkVersion>v3.5</TargetFrameworkVersion> causes compilation to fail with the folling error: Error 1 error C1001: An internal error has occurred in the compiler. According to this link, there is apparently some differences in compilers used between VS2008 and 2010, but manually editing the project file was still suggested as a solution. Does anyone have any idea on this?
