  • github repos cloning, but no tags/branches recreated??!!

    I've been cloning a few repos from github that, even though I know they have branches/tags, do not have them once I clone them onto my local drive. strage. I try to list the tags (git tag) but nothing comes up... I would look into .git/refs/tags/ and that too is empty. the repos in question are: http://github.com/jchris/hovercraft.git http://github.com/apache/couchdb.git any ideas? I really need specific tags/branches, and not the HEAD of the master

  • Unable to diligently close the excel process running in memory

    I have developed a VB.Net code for retrieving data from excel file .I load this data in one form and update it back in excel after making necessary modifications in data. This complete flow works fine but most of the times I have observed that even if I close the form; the already loaded excel process does not get closed properly. I tried all possible ways to close it but could not be able to resolve the issue. Find below code which I am using for connecting to excel and let me know if any other approach I may need to follow to resolve this issue.     In my code, I have used ArrayList which stores the number format like '$0.00 to $1,000,000.00' in each index of array list. while iterate in JSP through tag, its values are printing like $0.00 to $1 as a first string, 000 as a second string and 000.00 as a thrid string. but it has to print like '$0.00 to $1,000,000.00'. what will be the problem is?     Suppose I have two separate tables that I watch to query. Both of these tables has a relation with a third table. How can I query both tables with a single, non UNION based query? I want the result of the search to rank the results by comparing a field on each table. Here's a theoretical example. I have a User table. That User can have both CDs and books. I want to find all of that user's books and CDs with a single query matching a string ("awesome" in this example). A UNION based query might look like this: SELECT "book" AS model, name, ranking FROM book WHERE name LIKE 'Awesome%' UNION SELECT "cd" AS model, name, ranking FROM cd WHERE name LIKE 'Awesome%' ORDER BY ranking DESC How can I perform a query like this without the UNION? If I do a simple left join from User to Books and CDs, we end up with a total number of results equal to the number of matching cds timse the number of matching books. Is there a GROUP BY or some other way of writing the query to fix this?

    I have two tables : Product and ProductRateDetail. The parent table is Product. I have duplicate records in the product table which need to be unique. There are entries in the ProductRateDetail table which correspond to duplicate records in the product table. Somehow I need to update the ProductRateDetail table to match the original (older) ID from the Product table and then remove the duplicates from the product table. I would do this manually but there are 100's of records.   • Slow T-SQL query, convert to LINQ to Object

    I have a T-SQL query which populates a DataSet from an MSSQL database. string qry = "SELECT * FROM EvnLog AS E WHERE TimeDate = (SELECT MAX(TimeDate) From EvnLog WHERE Code = E.Code) AND (Event = 8) AND (TimeDate BETWEEN '" + Start + "' AND '" + Finish + "')" The database is quite large and being the type of nested query it is, the Data Adapter can take a number of minutes to fill the DataSet. I have extended the DataAdapter's timeout value to 480 seconds to combat it, but the client still complains about slow performance and occassional timeouts. To combat this, I was considering executing a simpler query (ie. just taking the date range) and then populating a Generic List which I could then execute a Linq query against. The simple query executes very quickly which is great. However, I cannot seem to build a Linq query which generates the same results as the T-SQL query above. Is this the best solution to this problem? Can anyone provide tips on rewriting the above T-SQL into Linq? I have also considered using a DataView, but cannot seem to get the results from that either.

IEnumerable<IList<X>> source; //= ... var results = source.Select(foo.Bar); } The compiler says: The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Enumerable.Select(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable, System.Func)' cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly. It's because, it cannot convert Bar to Func<IList<X>, int, IDictionary<Y, IList<Z>>>. It would be great if I could create type namespace scoped type aliases for generic types in C#. Then I would define Bar not as a delegate, but rather I would define it as an namespace scoped alias for Func<IList<X>, int, IDictionary<Y, IList<Z>>>. public alias Bar = Func<IList<X>, int, IDictionary<Y, IList<Z>>>; I could then also define namespace scoped alias for e.g. IDictionary<Y, IList<Z>>. And if used appropriately:), it will make the code more readable. Now I have inline the generic types and the real code is not well readable:( Have you find the same trouble:)? Is there any good reason why it is not in C# 3.0? Or there is no good reason, it's just matter of money and/or time? I'm working on a asp.net webpage and I want to add a "search function" (textbox where user inputs name or surname or both or just parts of it and gets back all related information). I have two tables ("Person" and "Application") and I want to display some columns from Person (name and surname) and some from Application (score, position,...). I know how I could do it using sql, but I want to learn more about linq and thus I want to do it using linq.   • Cost of logic in a query

    I have a query that looks something like this: select xmlelement("rootNode", (case when XH.ID is not null then xmlelement("xhID", XH.ID) else xmlelement("xhID", xmlattributes('true' AS "xsi:nil"), XH.ID) end), (case when XH.SER_NUM is not null then xmlelement("serialNumber", XH.SER_NUM) else xmlelement("serialNumber", xmlattributes('true' AS "xsi:nil"), XH.SER_NUM) end), /*repeat this pattern for many more columns from the same table...*/ FROM XH WHERE XH.ID = 'SOMETHINGOROTHER' It's ugly and I don't like it, and it is also the slowest executing query (there are others of similar form, but much smaller and they aren't causing any major problems - yet). Maintenance is relatively easy as this is mostly a generated query, but my concern now is for performance. I am wondering how much of an overhead there is for all of these case expressions. To see if there was any difference, I wrote another version of this query as: select xmlelement("rootNode", xmlforest(XH.ID, XH.SER_NUM,... (I know that this query does not produce exactly the same, thing, my plan was to move the logic to PL/SQL or XSL) I tried to get execution plans for both versions, but they are the same. I'm guessing that the logic does not get factored into the execution plan. My gut tells me the second version should execute faster, but I'd like some way to prove that (other than writing a PL/SQL test function with timing statements before and after the query and running that code over and over again to get a test sample). Is it possible to get a good idea of how much the case-when will cost? Also, I could write the case-when using the decode function instead. Would that perform better (than case-statements)?
