• Validation Rules in Webtesting using VS2010

  I'm creating a simple webtest (Recorded Web performance test) that makes sure that a correct error message is displayed if i try to login with a username that does not exist. However, there are two types of error messages that handle incorrect login info. One is for all the usernames that do not exist and therefore are not allowed, and the other is for usernames that start with the letter 'Q' (which is not allowed for a few reasons). Now what i want to do is use the 'Find Text' validation rule and the test should pass if ONE of the 'Find Text' parameters is found, and in that case i want the second 'Find Text' rule to be ignored so it doesn't fail the test. In other words the test should always pass if one of the 'Find Test' rules is found. How can i achieve that? Is there some if,else statement that i can use for this?

• Make MySQL database replication always use the most free node?

  We started using Multi-Master Replication Manager for MySQL, and I am wondering whether it is possible to to treat this setup like multi-symmetric processing: a process pops off the process queue, and the node (in this case a server) that is most free is selected for the job. It seems that what happens is, the service switches to a slave ONLY when it mysqld crashes or goes away. Is there a way to make database replication for MySQL act in more of a distributed manner? Maybe there is other software besides MMM that can do this? Is there a way to switch the reader role to another server whene mysqld slows down (rather than just when it fails)?

• PHP: Coding long-running scripts when servers impose an execution time limit

  FastCGI servers, for example, impose an execution time limit on PHP scripts which cannot be altered using set_time_limit() in PHP. IIS does this too I believe. I wrote an import script for a PHP application that works well under mod_php but fails under FastCGI (mod_fcgid) because the script is killed after a certain number of seconds. I don't yet know of a way of detecting what your time limit is in this case, and haven't decided how I'm going to get around it. Doing it in small chunks with redirects seems like one kludge, but how? What techniques would you use when coding a long-running task such as an import or export task, where an individual PHP script may be terminated by the server after a certain number of seconds? Please assume you're creating a portable script, so you don't necessarily know whether PHP will eventually be run under mod_php, FastCGI or IIS or whether a maximum execution time is enforced at the server level.

And if it's the first case due to the casting, is there any way to prevent this memory leak from happening? Note: please don't answer "use C++ polymorphism" or similar, I am using this method for a reason.

  I have a django project that runs on a Linux server, and I've been working on it both on Linux and OS X. I've noticed that some of the pages are a bit off, to put it politely, in Internet Explorer, and so I checked out the subversion repository on Windows and tried to run a local server. My media directory has symbolic links to all of the media from each different app, and obviously Windows doesn't know what to do with them. I could simply hard-copy or link everything manually in Windows, but then I wouldn't be able to check that in (since the site runs on a Linux server), so it'd be a pain in the neck. What is typically done in this case?

• Passing big multi-dimensional array to function in C

  Hi, I'm having trouble passing a big array to a function in C. I declare: int image[height][width][3]={}; where height and width can be as big as 1500. And when I call: foo((void *)image,height,width); which is declared as follows: int *foo(const int *inputImage, int h, int w); I get segmentation fault error. What's strange is that if my values are: height=1200; width=290; theres no problem, but when they're: height=1200; width=291; i get the mentioned error. At 4 bytes per integer with both height and width of 1500 (absolute worst case) the array size would be of 27MB which imo isn't that big and shouldn't really matter because I'm only passing a pointer to the first element of the array. Any advice?

  As far as I understand it, there is no way in Scala to have multiple return points in an anonymous function, i.e. someList.map((i) => { if (i%2 == 0) return i // the early return allows me to avoid the else clause doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) }) raises an error: return outside method definition. (And if it weren’t to raise that, the code would not work as I’d like it to work.) One workaround I could thing of would be the following someList.map({ def f(i: Int):Int = { if (i%2 == 0) return i doMoreStuffAndReturnSomething(i) } f }) however, I’d like to know if there is another ‘accepted’ way of doing this. Maybe a possibility to go without a name for the inner function? (A use case would be to emulate some valued continue construct inside the loop.)

• When is a C++ terminate handler the Right Thing(TM)?

  The C++ standard provides the std::set_terminate function which lets you specify what function std::terminate should actually call. std::terminate should only get called in dire circumstances, and sure enough the situations the standard describes for when it's called are dire (e.g. an uncaught exception). When std::terminate does get called the situation seems analagous to being out of memory -- there's not really much you can sensically do. I've read that it can be used to make sure resources are freed -- but for the majority of resources this should be handled automatically by the OS when the process exits (e.g. file handles). Theoretically I can see a case for if say, you needed to send a server a specific message when exiting due to a crash. But the majority of the time the OS handling should be sufficient. When is using a terminate handler the Right Thing(TM)? Update: People interested in what can be done with custom terminate handlers might find this non-portable trick useful.

  Suppose we have a DAG with edges labeled with numbers. Define the value of a path as the product of the labels. For each (source,sink)-pair I want to find the sum of the values of all the paths from source to sink. You can do this in polynomial time with dynamic programming, but there are still some choices that can be made in how you decompose the problem. In my case I have one DAG that has to be evaluated repeatedly with different labelings. My question is: for a given DAG, how can we pre-compute a good strategy for computing these values for different labelings repeatedly. It would be nice if there was an algorithm that finds an optimal way, for example a way that minimizes the number of multiplications. But perhaps this is too much to ask, I would be very happy with an algorithm that just gives a good decomposition.

  I use GNU make, I want my source files and object files to be in different folders. As a first step, I want the source files at the root of my project folder, and the object files in a subfolder (say Debug/). The inference rule would be: .ss.obj: echo Assembling $*.ss... $(ASSEMBLY) $(2210_ASSEMBLY_FLAGS) $*.ss -o Debug\$*.obj but in that case, make rebuilds all files all the time, since there are no .obj in the root folder. Is there a way to include a folder for the target in the line .ss.obj? I also tried: $(OBJS_WITH_PATH):$(SRC) echo Assembling $<... $(ASSEMBLY) $(ASSEMBLY_FLAGS) $< -o $@ with $(SRC) as a list of all my sources, $(OBJS_WITH_PATH) built that way: OBJS_WITH_PATH = $(patsubst %.ss,Debug\\%.obj,$(SRC)) but that builds a dependency on all source files for all object files. What I would like is to modify the inference rule I wrote first, to take Debug/*.obj files. What it says now is no rule to make target Debug/asdfasdf.obj.

• How can I dynamically add an <object> tag with JavaScript in IE?

  I have to add either an embed tag for Firefox or an object tag for Internet Explorer with JavaScript to address the appropriate ActiveX / Plugin depending on the browser. The plugin could be missing and needs to get downloaded in this case. The dynamically added embed tag for Firefox works as expected. The dynamically added object tag for Internet Explorer seems to do nothing at all. The object tag needs the following attributes to function properly. id ="SomeId" classid = "CLSID:{GUID}" codebase = "http://www.MyActicexSource.com/MyCuteActivex.CAB#Version=2,0,0,1" Even a general working idea or method would be nice.   Hi there, I'm trying to wrap my head around mongoose, but I'm having a hard time finding any kind of documentation for some of the more advanced query options, specifically the .in and .sort methods. What's the syntax for sorting, for example, a Person by age? db.model("Person").find().sort(???).all(function(people) { }); Then, let's say I want to find a Movie based on a genre, where a Movie can have many genres (in this case, an array of strings). Presumably, I'd use the .in function to accomplish that, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. Or perhaps I don't have to use the .in method at all...?   Hi, First post here in SO. I have a question within the area of CMS (RedDot) and possible integration of some Lotus Notes functionality. I'm very fresh in both areas. From my short research (did not find very much material regarding RedDot) I got the following: Contents in RedDot CMS can be accessed (and modified?) via the RQL API. (basicly xml messages) There exists a API developed for Java (jRQL). Lotus Notes has a developer kit called Lotus Expeditor Toolkit. My vague question is something like this: Is it possible to integrate a some kind of "content approver/manager" or any other useful CMS functionality from Lotus Notes into the RedDot CMS system? In that case I was thinking of using the jRQL and Lotus Expediton Toolkit so that the back end is fully using Java. Or is there any better solution? Regards Fredrik

  I'm in the middle of developing an e-commerce site that is using Paypal as it's payment gateway. All I want to do is run some code before the user heads off to Paypal to pay for their order, but I have no idea how to do it. The user should click a submit button, changes are made (in this case, the status of the order), and then the user is redirected to the payment gateway. Eg: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult GoToPaypal(FormCollection collection) { //change order status //send user to paypal where they pay for their order } So my question is how do you do application stuff and then redirect to paypal's payment gateway? • MIDlet + BlackBerry API = verification error?

  Hi, Is there any way to write a MIDlet, but still use BlackBerry API classes and functions (including the APIs that require code signing)? In particular, I'm trying to use Kuix (http://www.kalmeo.org/projects/kuix). A pure MIDlet + Kuix (so without BlackBerry stuff) works perfectly after I converted the jar/jad to a cod file. As soon as I add BlackBerry API-stuff (CoverageInfo.COVERAGE_DIRECT in this case) I get a verification error when trying to run the cod file: Error starting $name: Module $name has verification error 2410 at offset 9a4f What can I do to solve this?

• Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

I have browsed the internet and found that several trading platforms are available for such function but Bloomberg is not in the data source providers list. So I think these are not suitable for my case. I'm wondering whether there is any open-source engine that I may embed to finish the test?

If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List. I have included the DLLs directly in the application but when the sql ce is installed, its DLLs are in the GAC and have precedence over the local ones and the application crashes. I need the build a setup that would work "even if" the user already had the old buggy version.

  Hi, I am trying to use Shark to profile my app. However, it crashes after I hit "stop" and it analyzes and then goes to "load session". Only once when I decided not to select my app but chose to target "everything" did it actually display some trace. However, I could not reproduce this case. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? Could it be something to do with the wrong version of Shark or my SDK or some other detail? I have the latest SDK and am running 3.1.3 on the phone. The various documentation I've found on google or via Apple's docs don't seem to be terribly helpful, so if anyone has found some that's useful, I'd love to see it. Thanks.
