• Play 2 with Scala or Java?

  I want to develop a big personal project using Play 2 Framework. I am expert with Java language but it seems, with the few articles I read that Play 2 works perfectly and especially with Scala. I've never worked with Scala but I already learned concept as closures, functional programming etc... Learning it would be interesting. I am really motivated for but I wonder if there are some people who have started coding with Play2/Java and have changed for Play2/Scala that could explain their major concrete advantages.

• Can not install Ubuntu 12.04 or 12.10 on Toshiba qosmio x870. Please help!

  I have a new Toshiba qosmio x870 and for the past one week I have been trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB and Live CD without success. I keep on getting this error: Boot failure: a proper digital signature was not found. One or more files on the selected boot device was rejected by the Secure Boot feature. I even tried installing Ubuntu with the Windows installer. After installation and I reboot the PC, first I see the error that points to: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr Status: 0xc000007b Info: The OS couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. When I restart, that the previous error doesn't show up and I see both Windows 8 and Ubuntu (happy that I was successful) but when I click on Ubuntu, it flags an error. This is the first time I'm having a Secure Boot-capable PC. What will be the danger in disabling the secure boot? I'll be happy if I can get assistance from anyone.

• Error installing Package Control for Sublime Text 3 on Ubuntu 14.04

  This is the error. It comes up when I paste and enter the installation code (which I get from the Package Control website) and each time I open up Sublime Text. Package Control Your system's locale is set to a value that can not handle non-ASCII characters. Package Control can not properly work unless this is fixed. On Linux, please reference your distribution's docs for information on properly setting the LANG environmental variable. As a temporary work-around, you can launch Sublime Text from the terminal with: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 sublime_text I had the same problem with Ubuntu 13.04 so it's probably not version-dependent.

When trying to update the installation though (I just tried to do that using the Update Manager), it always fails because I do not have enough disc space remaining. How can I get Ubuntu to update properly on my USB stick?

• I'm trying to install postgresql on 12.04, and it's just not working

  I've got a new installation and I'm trying to get Postgresql working. The database was installed and I started a restoration from a dump on another machine, but that ran into problems because I had forgotten to install the "contrib" package. I used "pg_dropcluster" to drop the old cluster so I could start from scratch, and that's when things went weird. The first manifestation of this was that /etc/postgresql was just empty. I uninstalled the postgresql package and reinstalled, several times, to no avail. Is there something I can do to figure out why apt is confused here? I've done this many times on many systems and never seen anything like this happen.

  We have just released an official certification exam for Oracle ADF Development.  This exam is aimed that those who are already getting hands-on with ADF and would like an official certification of their development skills. I was involved in writing some of the exam questions and this was an interesting experience.  We were looking to test not only a knowledge of the framework, but also a practical application of that knowledge.  Trying to do that in a clear question which related to multiple choice questions was sometimes difficult but I think we’ve produced a testing exam which, if you pass, shows a strong practical knowledge of ADF.   I'm looking at architecture solutions for a mobile project that will have a web-service/app in addition to native apps. I've been looking at various libraries, frameworks, and stacks like jqm, backbone, parse, and meteor. Meteor, sort of an "open stack package framework", is tightly bound with node.js. There is a lot of talk about the benefits of using the same language both client and server side, and I'm not getting it. I could understand if you want to mirror the entire state of a web application on both client and server but struggling to find other wins... Workflow efficiency? I'm trying to understand why client/server language parity is considered to be a holy grail, any explicit examples or links would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  I'm interested in learning what resources there are for integrating Java and Adobe Professional, in general. If it helps, my projects already use the Spring Framework. My boss is particularly interested in being able to fill out a PDF form from within a Java webapp and have that data go directly to our database. She mentioned that .net had a lot of bridges to Adobe Professional. I would rather new projects be in Java so I am eager to find if there are any easy bridges between Java and Adobe Professional. • Why does update-grub not find ubuntu 11.10?

  I've recently installed ubuntu onto my laptop. With the intention of dual booting with windows 7. On installation Grub wasn't loading, the computer continued to boot straight into windows. I loaded a live cd, mounted the installed ubuntu partion (sda6) as /mnt/ and windows boot partition as /mnt/boot Following the second option here: http://ubuntuguide.net/how-to-restore-grub-2-after-reinstalling-windows-xpvistawin7 Through its entirety, so creating a new grub.cfg file. chroot /mnt update-grub Did not find ubuntu, just windows 7 and the windows recovery partition. Thinking this might be a weird quirk that as I was in ubuntu (all be it a live cd) it might not list ubuntu I restarted. Grub loaded but ubuntu was nowhere to be seen. How can I add ubuntu with Grub2? I could have fixed this myself in old grub but I'm pretty much in the dark here. Thanks

I want to rewrite URLs for all dynamic pages, So I installed ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Lite on my web server also I had uploaded the .htaccess file with the basic rules as follows RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^contact\.html$ contactus.php? [NC,R] I never worked before with ISAPI neither on URL- rewriting. My doubt is How should I proceed after installation. Should I upload .htaccess or httpd.conf file OR This s/w has ISAPI_Rewrite Manager which gives place to edit httpd.conf, Should I write rules on this. Anyways I had tried all these steps but unfortunately I couldn't find any remedies. Any immediate solution will be appreciable.

  I was trying to install a Linux OS to an partition alongside Windows 8 and Ubuntu, but I got confused and I just canceled the installation. Then I booted into Windows 8 and deleted the 20GB partition that I created. When I restarted the computer I got stuck at the following error message: error: no such partition grub rescue> I don't know what to do. I do not want to lose any data. Please help! Sorry for not selecting any answers, I overrited Linux with Windows XP and then repaired the Master Boot Record for Windows 8 and deleted XP, I'm now staying at Windows 8.

• System crashes when internet connection is unplugged

  When i first tried to install any ubuntu newer than 10.04 on my netbook (Acer aspire one 722 11,6" WXGA - C-60 Dual Core APU - AMD Radeon HD 6250 - 1x HDMI - 2GB DDR3 - 320GB - 802.11bgN - 6CELL2.2 - BT 3.0 - VGA Webcam), it would fail to boot. I found out that the only fix to this was linking it to the internet via lan-cable during the installation. However, after installing ubuntu 12.04 successfully my system is crashing everytime i unplug the lan-cable. My first thought was disabling the netbook´s w-lan (via the band at the top) but it was not fixing the problem. Looking on the taskmanager ('top') during the process brought no further insight, no process was exploding or something like that. As i am out of guesses help would be really appreaciated. • How to install Edubuntu on a system with low memory (256 Mb)?

  I'm preparing an old system with 256 Mb RAM to send it to some children. It doesn't have Ethernet controller and there are no Internet access at the destination. I've chosen Edubuntu for obvious reasons and modified it with UCK trying to minimize memory usage just to install, let alone using it yet. But Ubiquity won't start even in openbox (edited /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf) because there are no space left on /cow right after booting. I've already deleted things like ibus, zeitgeist, update-manager (no network access after all), twisted-core, plymouth logos. I'm thinking about creating a swap partition on HDD, can it be later added to expand this /cow ? Is there a package for the text-mode installation which is used on Alternate CDs? I don't want to re-create Edubuntu from an Alternate CD. This behavior is reproducible in VM limited to 256Mb RAM.

• PHP composer question

  just getting started with composer and I have a couple of questions. When I use composer to add a dependency, the dependency gets added to my folder's Vendor directory. The newly added package not only comes with the source code for that package, but all packagist required files for the developer to test and add that package to packagist repo (composer.json, .travis.yaml, license, readme.md, etc). For my project, do I need to keep the vendor's required packagist files in my project? Can I clean the package folder structure up a little? I added the package, Slim micro framework, which nests the source files three directories deep upon installation, ../vendor/slim/slim/Slim/(source Files). Is it worth moving these files to the top Slim directory like: ../vendor/Slim/(source files)? Or will this ruin the integrity of the package?

  Recently I've installed StarCraft 2 via playonlinux. The installation was absolutly no problem, everything was fine. But if I want to start the game now, it crashes. • Choppy window movement in Gnome 3.4 on Ubuntu 12.04

  I have been using Gnome 3.2 since Ubuntu 11.10 was released and it has always been perfectly smooth and performed extremely well, much better than Unity. After doing a clean installation of Ubuntu 12.04, Gnome 3.4 performs less well. If just one window of a relatively simple application, such as Gnome Terminal, is opened and moved around, the movement is sometimes very choppy, but the rest of the time it's perfectly smooth. The times when it's choppy seem to be when part of the window goes off the bottom or right side of the screen. Also, if there are multiple windows open, it is almost always choppy. These facts suggest to me that it's something to do with the compositor. Unity works perfectly smoothly. Memory usage is only at about 500-600MB, out of 3GB, even with a few things open. The graphics card is the on-board Intel graphics on the Core i5 M450. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem? Thanks

• How can I optimise ext4 for reliability?

  As ext4 was introduced as more reliable than ext3 with block journals, is there any chance to suppose it 100% reliable? What if enabling block journaling on it, which is disabled by default? As friend's guide to explain my case in more detail: I have an embedded linux device, after installation keyboard and monitor is detached and it works standalone. My duty is to make sure it has reliable file-system so with errors there is no way for manual correct faults on device. I can't force my customer to use a ups with each device to ensure no fault by power-failure. What more can ext4 offer me besides block journaling? Thanks in advance.
