  • Problem with jQuery in Internet Explorer 8

    - by Tim Cosgriff
I am trying to get my jQuery functions to work on IE8. I am loading the library from google's servers (http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3/jquery.min.js). The $(function(){}) is never called. Instead, I get an error "Object expected". I opened the developer and ran "typeof $" in the console, and it came up as "undefined". I have tried going to other sites that I know use jQuery (jquery.com), and those all work, is there something I might be missing here?

  • How important is PhD research topic to getting a job?

    - by thornate
EDIT: This has been closed and I realise that I may not have been specific enough with the original title. I ask two questions here: The general one (Does a PhD help get a job?) which has been asked elsewhere, and the specific one (Is it possible to get work outside of the specific research field?). Assume I've already decided going to do the phd. I'm just stressing about the research topic. Well, I'm one year out of university (Mechatronics engineering and Software Eng double bachelors), worked for a few months then got retrenched (yay economy!). It's looking less and less likely that I'll get a job worth having with the job market as it is, so I'm thinking about going back to uni to do a PhD. I figure that by the time I'm done, the job market will have improved and hopefully I'll have something on my resume that is more attractive than spending three years doing customer support for accounting software. So, my question is to people who've done PhD's. Would you say that they were worth the effort? How important is the research topic to future job-seeking success? The idea I have is a computer-sciencey/neural-networks/data-mining thing which I think is very interesting, but not a field I want to be in forever. My potential supervisor claims that employers don't care so much about the topic of the research but rather the peripheral skills that are developed through a PhD; time managment, self-restraint, planning and whatnot. How does this mesh with people's real world experience? I'd appreciate any advice before signing my life on the line for the next three years. See also: Should developers go to grad school? • Should the rfc1034identifier be removed from the CFBundleIdentifier in plist file?

    - by bobo
In my Xcode project's plist file, I can see the value for the key CFBundleIdentifier is: com.mycompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:rfc1034identifier} Obviously I will have to change com.mycompany to the domain name of my company, but I have no idea whether the rfc1034identifier should be removed so that it becomes: com.mycompany.${PRODUCT_NAME} Google did not help answering my question. Does this rfc1034identifier affect the AppID that I should provide in the iPhone Developer program - Provisioning Portal?

  • Losing Session between Classic ASP and ASP.NET

    - by Aaron
The company that I work for is making a transition between classic ASP programs and ASP.NET programs for our intranet software. Eventually, everything will be written in ASP.NET, but because of time constraints, there are still a number of programs that use classic ASP. To compensate we've written features that allow for redirects and autologins between classic ASP programs and ASP.NET programs. I've been starting to see a problem, though, with holding the session state for our ASP.NET software. If a user uses an ASP.NET program, then does work in a classic ASP program, then goes back to that ASP.NET program, often times, the user's authentication for the ASP.NET program is still in place, yet the user's session is lost, resulting in an error whenever a function is performed within the program. I'm trying to capture the loss of the session state in global.asax's Session_End event, which would redirect the user to the login page, but that hasn't worked. Has anyone else faced a similar issue with users moving back and forth between classic ASP and ASP.NET and losing sessions? Is that even my real issue here? It's the only thing that I can see as being a problem. Thanks for any help.

  • Migrating From SQL Server Server 7 To 2005, What should I get excited about?

    - by Jon P
The company I work for has decided to join the 21st century and upgrade our main database cluster from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2005. As a web developer what new whiz-bang features of SQL Server 2005 should I get excited about or get to know? Currently I'm mainly writing CRUD style queries, pretty much exclusively using Stored Procdures for a mixed ASP.net and Classic ASP environment.

  • Does mixing Quartz and OpenGL-ES cause big performance degrade??

    - by Eonil
I have a plan to make a game using OpenGL for 3D world view, and CALayer(or UIView) for HUD UI. It's easy to imagine performance degrade from mixing them, but the document which mention this impact disappeared: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/technotes/tn2008/tn2230.html I cannot find the document on current version of SDK reference. And I got this document: http://gamesfromwithin.com/gdc-2010-the-best-of-both-worlds-using-uikit-with-opengl If you experienced about this, please let me know about performance impact on current SDK.

  • Frame load interrupted error while loading a word document in UIWebView

    - by Mugunth Kumar
I want to load a word document using UIWebView. I used the code provided in http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2008/qa1630.html to load the document. But not all the documents load successfully. Sometimes I get an error Error Domain=WebKitErrorDomain Code=102 UserInfo=0x145bc10 "Frame load interrupted" The error seems to be very sporadic and I get this error only for some documents. However the same document loads correctly in mail.app. What am I missing?

  • How can I use fossil (DVCS) in a home environment?

    - by Mosh
I'm trying fossil as my new VCS, since I'm a lone developer working on small projects. I started testing fossil but I encountered a (probably major newbie) problem. How does one push or pull to another directory (which is easy on Hg). Fossil pull or push commands expect a URL and not a directory. When I start a server in one directory and try to push from another directory I get the "server loop" error message. Any ideas?

If think my question is pretty obvious and almost every developer working with UserProfile should be able to answer it. However, I could not find any help on the django documentation or in the Django Book. When you want to do a UserProfile form in with Django Forms, you'd like to modify the profile fields as well as some User field. But there is no forms.UserProfileForm (yet?) ! How do you do that ?

  • Erlang "must-have" development tools

    - by Jonas
I am not a professional Erlang developer (not yet), but I would like to hear what Erlang development tools are "must-have" in the industry (besides emacs and git/mercurial) ? I do know about a few tools like: rebar, dialyzer, hipe, eunit and edoc but I have no idea if they are used by professional erlang developers or if there are other tools that are "must-have". This question is inspired by Java "must-have" development tools
