  • Automating Excel through the PIA makes VBA go squiffy.

    - by Jon Artus
    I have absolutely no idea how to start diagnosing this, and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I'm generating an Excel spreadsheet by calling some Macros from a C# application, and during the generation process it somehow breaks. I've got a VBA class containing all of my logging/error-handling logic, which I instantiate using a singleton-esque accessor, shown here: Private mcAppFramework As csys_ApplicationFramework Public Function AppFramework() As csys_ApplicationFramework If mcAppFramework Is Nothing Then Set mcAppFramework = New csys_ApplicationFramework Call mcAppFramework.bInitialise End If Set AppFramework = mcAppFramework End Function The above code works fine before I've generated the spreadsheet, but afterwards fails. The problem seems to be the following line; Set mcAppFramework = New csys_ApplicationFramework which I've never seen fail before. If I add a watch to the variable being assigned here, the type shows as csys_ApplicationFramework/wksFoo, where wksFoo is a random worksheet in the same workbook. What seems to be happening is that while the variable is of the right type, rather than filling that slot with a new instance of my framework class, it's making it point to an existing worksheet instead, the equivalent of Set mcAppFramework = wksFoo which is a compiler error, as one might expect. Even more bizarrely, if I put a breakpoint on the offending line, edit the line, and then resume execution, it works. For example, I delete the word 'New' move off the line, move back, re-type 'New' and resume execution. This somehow 'fixes' the workbook and it works happily ever after, with the type of the variable in my watch window showing as csys_ApplicationFramework/csys_ApplicationFramework as I'd expect. This implies that manipulating the workbook through the PIA is somehow breaking it temporarily. All I'm doing in the PIA is opening the workbook, calling several macros using Excel.Application.Run(), and saving it again. I can post a few more details if anyone thinks that it's relevant. I don't know how VBA creates objects behind the scenes or how to debug this. I also don't know how the way the code executes can change without the code itself changing. As previously mentioned, VBA has frankly gone a bit squiffy on me... Any thoughts?

  • How do I search the MediaStore for a specific directory instead of entire external storage?

    - by Nick Lopez
    In my app I have an option that allows users to browse for audio files on their phone to add to the app. I am having trouble however with creating a faster way of processing the query code. Currently it searches the entire external storage and causes the phone to prompt a force close/wait warning. I would like to take the code I have posted below and make it more efficient by either searching in a specific folder on the phone or by streamlining the process to make the file search quicker. I am not sure how to do this however. Thanks! public class BrowseActivity extends DashboardActivity implements OnClickListener, OnItemClickListener { private List<Sound> soundsInDevice = new ArrayList<Sound>(); private List<Sound> checkedList; • Custom deleters for std::shared_ptrs

    - by Kristian D'Amato
    Is it possible to use a custom deleter after creating a std::shared_ptr without using new? My problem is that object creation is handled by a factory class and its constructors & destructors are protected, which gives a compile error, and I don't want to use new because of its drawbacks. To elaborate: I prefer to create shared pointers like this, which doesn't let you set a custom deleter (I think): auto sp1 = make_shared<Song>(L"The Beatles", L"Im Happy Just to Dance With You"); Or I can create them like this, which does let met set a deleter through an argument: auto sp2(new Song, MyDeleterFunc); But the second one uses new, which AFAIK isn't as efficient as the top sort of allocation. Maybe this is clearer: is it possible to get the benefits of make_shared<> as well as a custom deleter? Would that mean having to write an allocator?

  • Obtaining kerning information

    - by chadb
    How can I obtain kerning information for GDI to then use in GetKerningPairs? The documentation states that The number of pairs in the lpkrnpair array. If the font has more than nNumPairs kerning pairs, the function returns an error. However, I do not know how many pairs to pass in, and I don't see a way to query for it. EDIT I tried to do the following, however, it still gave me 0. Font* myFont = new Font(L"Times New Roman", 10); Bitmap* bitmap = new Bitmap(256, 256, PixelFormat32bppARGB); Graphics* g = new Graphics(bitmap); SelectObject(g->GetHDC(), myFont); //DWORD numberOfKerningPairs = GetKerningPairs( g->GetHDC(), -1, NULL ); DWORD numberOfKerningPairs = GetKerningPairs( g->GetHDC(), INT_MAX, NULL );

  • Is a web-server (e.g servlets) a good solution for an IM server?

    - by John
    I'm looking at a new app, broadly speaking an IM application with a strong client-server model - all communications go through a server so they can be logged centrally. The server will be Java in some form, clients could at this point be anything from a .NET Desktop app to Flex/Silverlight, to a simple web-interface using JS/AJAX. I had anticipated doing the server using standard J2EE so I get a thread-safe, multi-user server for 'free'... to make things simple let's say using Servlets (but in practice SpringMVC would be likely). This all seemed very neat but I'm concerned if the stateless nature of Servlets is the best approach. If my memory of servlets (been a year or two) is right, each time a client sent a HTTP request, typically a new message entered by the user, the servlet could not assume it had the user/chat in memory and might have to get it from the DB... regardless it has to look it up. Then it either has to use some PUSH system to inform other members of the chat, or cache that there are new messages, for other clients who poll the server using AJAX or similar - and when they poll it again has to lookup the chat, including new messages, and send the new data. I'm wondering if a better system would be the server is running core Java, and implements a socket-based communication with clients. This allows much more immediate data transfer and is more flexible if say the IM client included some game you could play. But then you're writing a custom server and sockets don't sound very friendly to a browser-based client on current browsers. Am I missing some big piece of the puzzle here, it kind of feels like I am? Perhaps a better way to ask the question would simply be "if the client was browser-based using HTML/JS and had to run on IE7+,FF2+ (i.e no HTML5), how would you implement the server?" edit: if you are going to suggest using XMPP, I have been trying to get my head around this in another question, so please consider if that's a more appropriate place to discuss this specifically.

  • Receiving 404 error when trying to get to MVC application in local IIS

    - by Corey Sunwold
    I have an existing web site setup on my local IIS built with web forms setup in this format: -MainSite -Application1 -Application2 -Application3 There are separate applications in each location, so MainSite has an application, and Application1 has another application and so on. This way development on different applications in the same site can be broken out. I want to add a new Application that is MVC instead of web forms. I created a new MVC project which runs in Cassini just fine, but when I create a new IIS application for it and point it to the MVC project I am unable to navigate to it in the browser and get a 404 error. I am expecting to be able to navigate to http://MainSite/NewMVCApplication/. I want the root of NewMVCApplication to point to my Contacts Controller. My global.asax in the new MVC application currently looks like this: public class MvcApplication : System.Web.HttpApplication { public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Root", // Route name "", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Contacts", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); } protected void Application_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); RouteDebug.RouteDebugger.RewriteRoutesForTesting(RouteTable.Routes); } }

  • c# - best way to initialize an array of reference type object

    - by lidong
    I wonder if there is better way to initialize an array of reference type object, like this. Queue<int>[] queues = new Queue<int>[10]; for (int i = 0; i < queues.Length; i++) { queues[i] = new Queue<int>(); } I tried Enumerable.Repeat, but all elements in the array refer to same instance, Queue<int>[] queues = Enumerable.Repeat(new Queue<int>(), 10).ToArray(); I also tried Array.ForEach, but it doesn't work without ref keyword: Queue<int>[] queues = Array.ForEach(queues, queue => queue = new Queue<int>()); any other idea?

  • How to drop/restart a client connection to a flaky socket server

    - by Steve Prior
    I've got Java code which makes requests via sockets from a server written in C++. The communication is simply that the java code writes a line for a request and the server then writes a line in response, but sometimes it seems that the server doesn't respond, so I've implemented an ExecutorService based timeout which tries to drop and restart the connection. To work with the connection I keep: Socket server; PrintWriter out; BufferedReader in; so setting up the connection is a matter of: server = new Socket(hostname, port); out = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(server.getOutputStream())); in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream())); If it weren't for the timeout code the request/receive steps are simply: String request="some request"; out.println(request); out.flush(); String response = in.readLine(); When I received a timeout I was trying to close the connection with: in.close(); out.close(); socket.close(); but one of these closes seems to block and never return. Can anyone give me a clue why one of these would block and what would be the proper way to abandon the connection and not end up with resource leak issues?

ArrayList<Example> examples = new ArrayList<Example>(); Because when we use List we can't use method that only have in ArrayList class like trimToSize() and How I know when to use or not use?

I tried .onclick = new Function("showRapidText('" + itemnum + "')"); and .onclick = new Function("return showRapidText('" + itemnum + "')"); and about 40 other ways but nothing works

I created and started some Threads that each one writes something to a common text file. but the following error appears to me: "The process cannot access the file 'C:\hello.txt' because it is being used by another process." void AccessFile() { int num = 5; Thread[] trds = new Thread[5]; for (int i = 0; i < num; i++) { trds[i] = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(WriteToFile)); } for (int i = 0; i < num; i++) { trds[i].Start(String.Format("{0}: Hello from thread id:#{1}", i, trds[i].ManagedThreadId)); } } void WriteToFile(object message) { string FileName = "C:\\hello.txt"; string mess = (string)message; System.IO.StreamWriter sw = null; FileStream objStream = null; sw = File.AppendText(FileName); if (sw == null) { objStream = new FileStream(FileName, FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.ReadWrite, FileShare.ReadWrite); sw = new StreamWriter(objStream); } sw.WriteLine(mess); sw.Close(); sw.Dispose(); } the AccessFile() method is the starting point. could any one tell me what should i do?

  • How to measure how long is a function running?

    - by rhose87
    I want to see how long a function is running. So I added a timer object on my form and I came out with this code: private int counter = 0; //inside button click I have: timer = new Timer(); timer.Tick += new EventHandler(timer_Tick); timer.Start(); Result result = new Result(); result = new GeneticAlgorithms().TabuSearch(parametersTabu, functia); timer.Stop(); and: private void timer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { counter++; btnTabuSearch.Text = counter.ToString(); } But this is not counting anything. Any ideas?

  • Most efficient way to maintain a 'set' in SQL Server?

    - by SEVEN YEAR LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE
    I have ~2 million rows or so of data, each row with an artificial PK, and two Id fields (so: PK, ID1, ID2). I have a unique constraint (and index) on ID1+ID2. I get two sorts of updates, both with a distinct ID1 per update. 100-1000 rows of all-new data (ID1 is new) 100-1000 rows of largely, but not necessarily completely overlapping data (ID1 already exists, maybe new ID1+ID2 pairs) What's the most efficient way to maintain this 'set'? Here are the options as I see them: Delete all the rows with ID1, insert all the new rows (yikes) Query all the existing rows from the set of new data ID1+ID2, only insert the new rows Insert all the new rows, ignore inserts that trigger unique constraint violations Any thoughts?

  • Store date object in sqlite database

    - by bnabilos
    Hello, I'm using a database in my Java project and I want to store date in it, the 5th and the 6th parameter are Date Object. I used the solution below but I have errors in these 2 lines : creerFilm.setDate(5, new Date (getDateDebut().getDate())); creerFilm.setDate(6, new Date (getDateFin().getDate())); PreparedStatement creerFilm = connecteur.getConnexion().prepareStatement("INSERT INTO FILM (ID, REF, NOM, DISTRIBUTEUR, DATEDEBUT, DATEFIN) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)"); creerFilm.setInt(1, getId()); creerFilm.setString(2, getReference()); creerFilm.setString(3, getNomFilm()); creerFilm.setString(4, getDistributeur()); creerFilm.setDate(5, new Date (getDateDebut().getDate())); creerFilm.setDate(6, new Date (getDateFin().getDate())); creerFilm.executeUpdate(); creerFilm.close(); Can you help me to fix that please ? Thank you

  • Is it possible to create a throttle function that can take in as parameters another function (that also has parameters), and the time delay

    - by Stan Quinn
    So I've already written a function that works (based on underscores throttle) for functions that don't take in a parameter, but I'd like to make it generic enough to pass in a function with a variable number of parameters. Here's what I have: (function () { var lastTime = new Date().getTime(); function foo() { var newTime = new Date().getTime(); var gap = newTime - lastTime; // Travels up scope chain to use parents lastTime. Function has access to variables declared in the same scope console.log('foo called, gap:' + gap); lastTime = newTime; // Updates lastTime //console.log(x); //x++; } var throttle = function(func, wait) { var result; var timeout = null; // flag updated through closure var previous = 0; // time last run updated through closure return function() { //func, wait, timeout, previous available through scope var now = new Date().getTime(); var remaining = wait - (now - previous); if (remaining <= 0) { clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; previous = now; result = func.apply(this, arguments); //func is available through closure } return result; }; }; document.addEventListener("scroll", throttle(foo, 1000)); //document.addEventListener("scroll", throttle(foo(5), 2000)); }()); But I'd like to modify foo to foo(x) and get this to work (function () { var lastTime = new Date().getTime(); function foo(x) { var newTime = new Date().getTime(); var gap = newTime - lastTime; // Travels up scope chain to use parents lastTime. Function has access to variables declared in the same scope console.log('foo called, gap:' + gap); lastTime = newTime; // Updates lastTime console.log(x); x++; } var throttle = function(func, wait) { var result; var timeout = null; // flag updated through closure var previous = 0; // time last run updated through closure return function() { //func, wait, timeout, previous available through scope var now = new Date().getTime(); var remaining = wait - (now - previous); if (remaining <= 0) { clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; previous = now; result = func.apply(this, arguments); //func is available through closure } return result; }; }; document.addEventListener("scroll", throttle(foo(5), 2000)); }());
