• Download databasename.bak file

  I have downloaded databasename.bak file from my hosting company, when i tried to restore that DB file in SQL server 2008 it is keep on giving me following error. The media family on device 'C:\go4sharepoint_1384_8481.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241) According to this error and from following link http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm It is clear that either file i am downloading is corrupt or it is getting corrupted on the way? Any idea, why I am keep on receiving this error? I tried almost all ways but unable to fix this problem, please help me.

  I have a good amount of experience with C# and Java at the moment but after education and whatnot I wish to be able in more than just 2 high-level, comparatively limited languages, and from what I've seen languages like C(++) or PHP are in demand at the moment. I've thought about learning the following: C. Very standard, lightweight and available on everything. However very old and mostly procedural. C++. Standard like C but I've read in some places that it encourages bad programming design and use of dodgy libraries - but similar things have been said about C too so I'll take that with a grain of salt. D. Quite new but looks promising, but will it be relevant or applicable in the future though? PHP. With the internet becoming ever more important I think this might be the one to go with, but the code itself isn't very intuitive. CoffeeScript (or plain JavaScript). With Microsoft's new idea of HTML5+JS for everything under the sun this doesn't look like a bad choice. However things do change and I wish to be primarily a software dev, not web dev. So out of the above list, or any others that you could suggest, what would you say I should begin to focus on? What is your opinion on staying with C#?

• How do you get around security warnings when redirecting AppData?

  I've recently set up folder redirection for my user profile in a domain. For now, I've redirected AppData, Desktop, Pictures, Documents and Favorites. So far, so good. But now I've noticed a quite disturbing side effect of the whole thing. Whenever I click any of my pinned elements on the task bar, I get the following warning: The shortcuts get synced as well and are no longer trusted. They're located at \\DFS\UserData\Profiles\OliverSalzburg\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar That seems like it could be a problem when rolling it out to the whole company.

• Exporting a VM running as a Domain Controller

  There is a Microsoft KB article that talks about best practices for running a DC on a VM. One of the notes is "Do not use the Export feature on a virtual machine that is running a domain controller". In order to export a VM, the VM needs to be turned off. If you turn off a DC VM, export it, import it on another server and then power the VM back on, there should be no risk as long as the original (exported) VM is never powered back on. Can someone explain to me why this isn't supported? After doing some searching on Google, the sites I found just regurgitated this line from the KB article, but didn't offer any explanation as to why this isn't supported.

  After installing IIS on my dev system, window xp professional, its asking for username and password while trying to access http://localhost. Can you please help me out. Tried googling and tried may things but could not resolve the issue.   I recently discovered that Active Directory replication started failing about a month ago. If I attempt to Replicate Now from the failing domain controller, I receive The following error occurred during the attempt to synchronize the domain controllers: Access is denied. It is between two servers at a remote site. One is Windows 2003 and the other is Windows 2000; the Windows 2000 machines is experiencing the errors. The domain is older OUR_DOMAIN style. Attempts so far: I disabled Kerberos service on the Windows 2000 server and restarted RPC and RPC locater services have expected settings HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols missing ncacn_nb_tcp on Windows 20003 server (added) Portqry reports okay Firewall disabled netdom resetpwd (and reboot) on Windows 2000 server.

• Locking down a server for shared internet hosting.

  Basically I control several servers and I only host either static websites or scripts which I have designed, so I trust them up to a point. However, I have a few customers who want to start using scripts such as Wordpress or many others - and they want full control over their account. I have started to do the basics - like on php.ini, I have locked it down and restricted commands such as proc, however, there is obviously a lot more I can do. right now, using NTFS permissions, I am trying to lock down the server by running Application Pools and individual sites in their own user, however I feel like I am hitting brick walls... (My old question on Server Fault). At the moment, the only route I can think of is either to implement an off the shelf control panel - which will be expensive and quite frankly, over the top, or look at the Microsoft guide - which is really for an entire infrastructure, not for someone who just wants to lock down a few servers. Does anyone have any guides that can put me on the correct path?

• SCCM for mobile device management returns 404 on /devicemgmt/server.resource

  We have a new Windows Server 2008 R2 machine onto which we have installed SCCM SP2 followed by the R2 package. We have enabled a mobile device management point and enabled distribution points to support mobile devices as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680634.aspx We have also installed the Mobile Device Management Client on to a Windows Mobile 6.1 device. The client on the device fails to connect to the server. Our investigation so far has led us to the URL /devicemgmt/server.resource. However, looking in IIS on the server shows no such URL (in fact nothing apart from the aspnet_client directory) and visiting the URL with a browser returns 404. WebDav is enabled on the Default Web Site in IIS. BITS is installed on the server. Can anyone confirm whether enabling mobile device management will add visible directories to IIS and if so why it might be failing in our case?

  Hi, Has anyone got the google calender sync (http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955) to work on Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2007? I have set up 2 way sync but it only seems to sync from my gmail calender to outlook calender. If I make an appointment in my outlook calender, it doesn't show up in gmail calender. I tried running it as admin, but no joy. I also tried running it in compatablity mode (XP service pack 3). But it still gives me an error when i do a manual Sync that says "Could not connect to microsoft outlook. error -2146959355" Thanks in advance.

  I am a student and i'm experimenting with my own home server running windows server 2008 R2. Now i have a NAS in my network an i can connect with it trough my server but only if i am on the administrator account. My own account is in the administrators group but can't establish a connection with the NAS unless the administrator account has already connected. How do i make my own account connect with the NAS without first connecting with the admin account. The error message on my account: An error occurred while reconnecting Y: to \NAS\Download Microsoft Windows Network: The user name could not be found. This connection has not been restored.

• Are less domains better than more domains in active directory?

  A colleague of mine wants to add a domain to our forest. He said it would be good for security. I believe him but I have no idea why it is any better than with just one domain. I read this on Wikipedia but it has no source: "Microsoft recommends as few domains as possible in Active Directory and a reliance on OUs to produce structure and improve the implementation of policies and administration." I have no idea if it's right or not. I was hoping for comments. Thank you.

The thing is i did everything that says in answer but i)I found nothing when i started regedit.exe and searched (F3 or CTRL+F) for BackgroundContainer.dll ii)I made a full scan with AntiVirus Scanner like Microsoft Security Essentials/ Defender and also i scaned my PC with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware,but i found nothing. • TechEd 2010 Day Four: Learning how to help others learn

  I do quite a few presentations, and teach at the University of Washington, and also teach other classes. But I'm always learning from others how to help others learn. At events like TechEd I have access to some of the best speakers around, so I try to find out what they do that works. I attended a great session by allen White, in which he demonstrated a set of PowerShell scripts. He said that Dan Jones of the Microsoft Manageability team told him while he demonstrated a script he needed to provide some visual way to represent the process. Allen used one of the oldest visualizations around - a flowchart. It was the first time I'd seen one used to illustrate a PowerShell script, and it was very effective. I'm totally stealing the idea. All of us are teachers - we help others on our team understand what we're up to. Make sure you make notes for what you find effective in dealing with you, and then meld that into your own way of teaching. • Cannot install new certificate in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2

  We are trying to renew our existing web site certificate on our IIS 7 site under Windows Server 2008 R2, but we continue to get the "Access is denied" error that others have posted. However, when we have gone to implement the common fix of making sure the Administrator group has full access to all folders and subfolders on the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA folder, we get an "Access is Denied" error on changing those permissions. Yes, we are logged in as Administrator user - it just seems to not allow us to modify the group permissions to this folder. Help! We need to renew our certificate before March 2011!

I am storing my conversation history from Communicator in Exchange in the default folder, "Conversation History". I'm using the conversation view in Outlook. And I have a Gmail-like macro to archive my conversations to an "Archive" folder. I want to search all my mail and conversations at once. By default, Outlook is searching in the current folder only. I tried creating a rule to move the conversations to my Archive folder, but couldn't configure it correctly.

• Can't run .net software on Samsung Omnia Pro B7330

  I've got a Samsung Omnia Pro B7330, and am unable to run any program for .net compact framework on it. My last three Smartphones had been HTC brand, and all the programs I tried are just simple winform apps, which ran on all HTC phones. But not on the Omnia. Whenever I try to start an app, I get an "unexpected error" / "NotSupportedException" at: Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleArt() System.Windows.Forms.Control._InitInstalce() System.Windows.Forms.Control..ctor() System.Windows.Forms.Button..ctor() MyApp.InitializeComponents() The proper compact framework 2.0 is already installed in the rom, installing CF 3.5 didn't change anything. • How can you enable forms scripting for outlook 2010 on Citrix servers ?

  I'd like to deploy Office 2010 on Citrix servers, but i can't enable form scripting support. With outlook 2007, it was solved by adding Outlvbs.dll in the office directory, and running msiexec /i {<Outlook GUID>} ADDLOCAL=OutlookVBScript /qb But it seems this does not work anymore with Outlook 2010, I get the following error : Error 2711. An internal error has occured. (OutlookVBScript). I don't get much help from microsoft support site, as there isn't a lot of informations on office 2010 yet. Have anyone succeded in installing and using outlook 2010 with form scripting in a citrix environment ?

• tcpview cannot kill connection/process

  I have a program that sometime misses to close a tcp connection. After the program has ended I can see that the port is taken. TCPViewer shows "non-existent" in the "Process" column. If i try to "End process" or "Close connection" nothing happens. If i reboot the server the port is released. But how can I tell Windows to release this port without a reboot? SOLUTION: It was dw20.exe (Microsoft Error Reporting) that was holding it back.

• FILESTREAM in SQL Server 2008 R2

  Much data is unstructured, such as text documents, images, and videos. This unstructured data is often stored outside the database, separate from its structured data. This separation can cause data management complexities. Or, if the data is associated with structured storage, the file streaming capabilities and performance can be limited. FILESTREAM integrates the SQL Server Database Engine with an NTFS file system by storing varbinary(max) binary large object (BLOB) data as files on the file system. Transact-SQL statements can insert, update, query, search, and back up FILESTREAM data. Win32 file system interfaces provide streaming access to the data. FILESTREAM uses the NT system cache for caching file data. This helps reduce any effect that FILESTREAM data might have on Database Engine performance. The SQL Server buffer pool is not used; therefore, this memory is available for query processing. FILESTREAM data is not encrypted even when transparent data encryption is enabled. • Displaying a Paged Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC

  This article demonstrates how to display a paged grid of data in an ASP.NET MVC application and builds upon the work done in two earlier articles: Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC and Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC. Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC started with creating a new ASP.NET MVC application in Visual Studio, then added the Northwind database to the project and showed how to use Microsoft's Linq-to-SQL tool to access data from the database. The article then looked at creating a Controller and View for displaying a list of product information (the Model). Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC enhanced the application by adding a view-specific Model (ProductGridModel) that provided the View with the sorted collection of products to display along with sort-related information, such as the name of the database column the products were sorted by and whether the products were sorted in ascending or descending order. The Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC article also walked through creating a partial view to render the grid's header row so that each column header was a link that, when clicked, sorted the grid by that column. In this article we enhance the view-specific Model (ProductGridModel) to include paging-related information to include the current page being viewed, how many records to show per page, and how many total records are being paged through.
