• MYSQL - Selecting a specific date range to get "current" popular screensavers.

  Let's say I have a screensaver website. I want to display the CURRENT top 100 screensavers on the front page of the website. What I mean is, "RECENT" top 100 screensavers. What would be an example query to do this? My current one is: SELECT * FROM tbl_screensavers WHERE WEEK(tbl_screensavers.DateAdded) = WEEK('".date("Y-m-d H:i:s",strtotime("-1 week"))."') ORDER BY tbl_screensavers.ViewsCount, tbl_screensavers.DateAdded This will select the most viewed ("tbl_screensavers.ViewsCount") screensavers that were added ("tbl_screensavers.DateAdded") in the last week. However, in some cases there are no screensavers, or less than 100 screensavers, submitted in that week. So, how can I perform a query which would select "RECENT" top 100 screensavers? Hopefully you have an idea of what I'm try to accomplish when I say "RECENT" or "CURRENT" top screensavers. -- aka. the most viewed, recently - not the most viewed, all-time.

• Restart IIS7 webapp for debug in VS2008

  I'm developing an ASP.NET asyc generic handler which uses a static System.Threading.Timer instance to feed data to the response output stream while the context is in the asynchronous phase. I'm having issues at startup that I'd like to debug. Currently, because of the long-lived nature of the timer, I'm manually killing w3wp.exe in order to cause the application to restart. I'm aware that there are other ways to do this, but this is the best workflow I can find! Isn't there a way to force a cold start when I hit f5, instead of the standard VS approach of attaching to the existing IIS process?

• iPhone link to map directions using string "current location" not lat and lng for saddr

  I know there are numerous questions about how to construct a sharedApplication link to the maps app specifying the start and end address with coordinates. I've got that working no problem. Has anyone found a way to link with a source address generically specified as "current location". I ask because the scenario I'm working on having Core Location or a UIMapView would only be necessary in order to determine the user location prior to handing off to the map app where the user locating would seem to just happen again. I've tried throwing UTF8'd "Current Location" and "[Current Location]" into the saddr parameter which amusingly starts from Current Montana. I've also tried simply excluding the saddr param. I know this is often tread territory but this particular situation wasn't covered by anything I found searching here or on mapki. Before I add the core location code I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more limited way to tackle this. Thanks

• How do laziness and I/O work together in Haskell?

  I'm trying to get a deeper understanding of laziness in Haskell. I was imagining the following snippet today: data Image = Image { name :: String, pixels :: String } image :: String -> IO Image image path = Image path <$> readFile path The appeal here is that I could simply create an Image instance and pass it around; if I need the image data it would be read lazily - if not, the time and memory cost of reading the file would be avoided: main = do image <- image "file" putStrLn $ length $ pixels image But is that how it actually works? How is laziness compatible with IO? Will readFile be called regardless of whether I access pixels image or will the runtime leave that thunk unevaluated if I never refer to it? If the image is indeed read lazily, then isn't it possible I/O actions could occur out of order? For example, what if immediately after calling image I delete the file? Now the putStrLn call will find nothing when it tries to read.

  Hi, I am looking for a simple way (UDF?) to establish the similarity between strings. The SOUNDEX and DIFFERENCE function do not seem to do the job. Similarity should be based on number of characters in common (order matters). For example: Spiruroidea sp. AM-2008 and Spiruroidea gen. sp. AM-2008 should be recognised as similar. • How do you match only valid roman numerals with a regular expression?

  Thinking about my other problem, i decided I can't even create a regular expression that will match roman numerals (let alone a context-free grammar that will generate them) The problem is matching only valid roman numerals. Eg, 990 is NOT "XM", it's "CMXC" My problem in making the regex for this is that in order to allow or not allow certain characters, I need to look back. Let's take thousands and hundreds, for example. I can allow M{0,2}C?M (to allow for 900, 1000, 1900, 2000, 2900 and 3000). However, If the match is on CM, I can't allow following characters to be C or D (because I'm already at 900). How can I express this in a regex? If it's simply not expressible in a regex, is it expressible in a context-free grammar? Thanks for any pointers!

• PHP array taking up to much memory

  I have a multidimensional array. The array itself is fine. My problem is that the script takes up monster amounts of memory, and since I'm running this on my MAMP install on my iBook G4, my computer freezes up. • JTable filled with database data is not being updated when columns are reordered.

  I have a JTable filled with data of a table of my database (so I used ResultSetTableModel) and using TableRowSorter to sort the rows, as I click in one column of the JTable. The data is displayed in the jTable without problems; But when I sort the JTable by some column table (for example, sorting it by the primary key value), and edit some cell from the sorted jTable, the value changed is the old cell that were in that position before the ordenation of the column. For example: Suppose I have a table with 2 columns - name and age. My table has the following data: c 1 b 2 a 3 when I order i by name in the JTable, it becomes like this a 3 b 2 c 1 if I edit the value "1", after the edition, the table becomes like this a 1 b 2 c 1 It seems that the positions are not being updated in the JTable, and the values are edited considering their original positions.

• Sqlite: Selecting records spread over total records

  I have a sql / sqlite question. I need to write a query that select some values from a sqlite database table. I always want the maximal returned records to be 20. If the total selected records are more than 20 I need to select 20 records that are spread over the total records. It is also important that I always select the first and last value from the table when sorted on the date. I know how to accomplish this in code but it would be perfect to have a sqlite query that can do the same. The query Im using now is really simple and looks like this: "SELECT value,date,valueid FROM tblvalue WHERE tblvalue.deleted=0 ORDER BY DATE(date)" Hope I explained what I need, thanks for your help!

  Hi, Is it possible to use HQL/ICritera to produce a query with the same semantics as the following SQL query: select table1.A, table2.B, count(*) from table1 left join (select table2.parent_id, table2.B from table2 where table2.C = 'Some value') as table2 on table2.parent_id = table1.id group by table1.A, table2.B order by table1.A In particular, what I'd like is to receive rows (that is, objects) from table1 that have no matching rows in table2. However, I only get the rows from table1 that have matches in table2. Is this the meaning of 'LEFT JOIN' in HQL? And if so, how can I get it to join on a subquery? Tnx.

• Django QuerySet filter + order_by + limit

  So I have a Django app that processes test results, and I'm trying to find the median score for a certain assessment. I would think that this would work: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) median_exam = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score')[median:1] median_score = median_exam.score But it always returns an empty list. I can get the result I want with this: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) exams = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score') median_score = median_exam[median].score I would just prefer not to have to query the entire set of exams. I thought about just writing a raw MySQL query that looks something like: SELECT score FROM assess_exam WHERE assessment_id = 5 ORDER BY score LIMIT 690,1 But if possible, I'd like to stay within Django's ORM. Mostly, it's just bothering me that I can't seem to use order_by with a filter and a limit. Any ideas?

However what I really want is to execute a file that is installed by a merge module. How do I do this? I can make changes in the merge module, if this helps things.

  Is there a way to define a default order column from a child collection? In my case, I have a Form entity that has a collection of FormItem entities called FormItems. FormItem has a property called DisplayOrder (int). I want to make sure that any Form entities I return from a method have that collection properly ordered. Is there a way to do this before returning the result? For example, I tried this but the list is not actually sorted: var form = context.Forms.FirstOrDefault(x => x.IsDeleted == false && x.FormName == formName); if (form != null) { form.FormItems.OrderBy(x => x.DisplayOrder); // I can't even figure out a way to cast this next line so that it will compile // form.FormItems = form.FormItems.OrderBy(x => x.DisplayOrder); } return form; Is there a way to do this without using DataLoadOptions?

  I am using Unity with MVC and NHibernate. Unfortunately, our UnitOfWork resides in a different .dll and it doesn't have a default empty .ctor. How I can setup the RegisterType for this Interface in order to pass the two parameters retreived from the web.config? Is it possible?

  Hi, I'm trying to get to know Core Data (I'm a noob at iPhone development) and in order to do this I'm trying to get an object from the fetchedresultscontroller and NSlog it's name (a property of the object). I tried to do it like this: NSArray *ar = [NSArray arrayWithArray:[fetchedResultsController sections]]; Task *t = [ar objectAtIndex:0]; NSLog(@"%@", t.taskName); However, the app crashed with this error: the app crashes with the error Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[_NSDefaultSectionInfo taskName]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3d1f670' I have since learned that you need to use the fetched objects property for this, but then what is sections for? Thanks for any help, sorry if this is a supremely stupid question. I've looked over the documentation but still don't understand.

  Hi All, Im wanting to organize a series of dates in the following format. As a bit of context, the dates are the dates of upcoming events that can be added by my users. The format: January 2011 date - event date - event date - event February 2011 date - event date - event date - event with all events in a given month, arranged by the date on which they occur. All of my event dates are stored in my database as unix timestamps. Problem is, i dotn know where id start to develop a function that would order all of my events in this way. Can anyone help me out? • NNTP & Socket - How to interrupt?

  Hi. I'm sending a message to a NNTP server in order to fetch an article's body. I don't want to wait for the answer to complete, cause I only need the first 3 lines from the body. How can I interrupt the transfer and move on to the next article? Now when I request another's article message body, I still get data from the previous one. The only way that worked for me, was to close the stream and reopen it. In my opinion this is a little bit hardcore, cause I have to login to the server every time I need a new file. Any help would be appreciated. Kind Regards.

• WPF datagrid bind to previous row's cell

  Hi, I have a datagrid and one of the columns is going to be a checkbox column. To give the background, the checkbox is going to turn something on / off and each row in the datagrid is going to be for a differernt time (in time order, ascending). Is it possible for one row's checkbox to be bound to the state of the previous row? That way if somebody turns off at 10am it will continue to be turned off until such a time that it is turned on again. Hope that makes sense, any help would be great. Sure this sounds like something that should be do-able with databindings just not sure on the way to do it! Thanks.

  When using a nosql type datastore like Cassandra, how would you return a result set based on a column? e.g. SELECT * FROM Articles WHERE category='blah' ORDER BY datetime DESC is this something that you would store in a sql db and then pull the data from cassandra? Or can cassandra handle this type of query? (assuming millions of rows in a db) From what I understand, cassandra is great at key based lookups, confused if it can and should be used for getting a list of data back and paging that data also (and if it is highly performant)

• Algorithm: efficient way to remove duplicate integers from an array

  I got this problem from an interview with Microsoft. Given an array of random integers, write an algorithm in C that removes duplicated numbers and return the unique numbers in the original array. E.g Input: {4, 8, 4, 1, 1, 2, 9} Output: {4, 8, 1, 2, 9, ?, ?} One caveat is that the expected algorithm should not required the array to be sorted first. And when an element has been removed, the following elements must be shifted forward as well. Anyway, value of elements at the tail of the array where elements were shifted forward are negligible. Update: The result must be returned in the original array and helper data structure (e.g. hashtable) should not be used. However, I guess order preservation is not necessary. Update2: For those who wonder why these impractical constraints, this was an interview question and all these constraints are discussed during the thinking process to see how I can come up with different ideas.

• ASP.Net Custom Field From Query In DataSet

  I added a new query to a table adapter in a DataSet. This query adds another field to the query whcih is a sum from another table. Here is the full query: SELECT (SELECT COUNT(donationID) AS Expr1 FROM Donations AS da WHERE (dn.donorID = donorID)) AS Count, Solicitor, address1, address2, city, companyName, country, donorID, email, first, last, phoneHome, phoneMobile, phoneWork, state, webURL, zip, (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations FROM Donors AS dn order by last The new field is represented in the last part of the query: (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations I can preview the data in the xsd but the last field "SumDonations" is not showing up as a field I can add to my gridview. I rebuilt the website but no luck. What am I missing?

  Note – Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c DBaaS is platform agnostic and is designed to work on Exadata/non-Exadata, physical/virtual, Oracle/non Oracle platforms and it’s not a mandatory requirement to use Exadata as the base platform. Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) is an important trend these days and the top business drivers motivating customers towards private database cloud model include constant pressure to reduce IT Costs and Complexity, and also to be able to improve Agility and Quality of Service. The first step many enterprises take in their journey towards cloud computing is to move to a consolidated and standardized environment and Exadata being already a proven best-in-class popular consolidation platform, we are seeing now more and more customers starting to evolve from Exadata based platform into an agile self service driven private database cloud using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Together Exadata Database Machine and Enterprise Manager 12c provides industry’s most comprehensive and integrated solution to transform from a typical silo’ed environment into enterprise class database cloud with self service, rapid elasticity and pay-per-use capabilities.   In today’s post, I’ll list down the important steps to enable DBaaS on Exadata using Enterprise Manager 12c. These steps are chalked down based on a recent DBaaS implementation from a real customer engagement - Project Planning - First step involves defining the scope of implementation, mapping functional requirements and objectives to use cases, defining high availability, network, security requirements, and delivering the project plan. In a Cloud project you plan around technology, business and processes all together so ensure you engage your actual end users and stakeholders early on in the project right from the scoping and planning stage. Setup your EM 12c Cloud Control Site – Once the project plan approval and sign off from stakeholders is achieved, refer to EM 12c Install guide and these are some important tips to follow during the site setup phase - Review the new EM 12c Sizing paper before you get started with install Cloud, Chargeback and Trending, Exadata plug ins should be selected to deploy during install Refer to EM 12c Administrator’s guide for High Availability, Security, Network/Firewall best practices and options Your management and managed infrastructure should not be combined i.e. EM 12c repository should not be hosted on same Exadata where target Database Cloud is to be setup Setup Roles and Users – Cloud Administrator (EM_CLOUD_ADMINISTRATOR), Self Service Administrator (EM_SSA_ADMINISTRATOR), Self Service User (EM_SSA_USER) are the important roles required for cloud lifecycle management. Roles and users are managed by Super Administrator via Setup menu –> Security option. For Self Service/SSA users custom role(s) based on EM_SSA_USER should be created and EM_USER, PUBLIC roles should be revoked during SSA user account creation. Configure Software Library – Cloud Administrator logs in and in this step configures software library via Enterprise menu –> provisioning and patching option and the storage location is OMS shared filesystem. Software Library is the centralized repository that stores all software entities and is often termed as ‘local store’. Setup Self Update – Self Update is one of the most innovative and cool new features in EM 12c framework. Self update can be accessed via Setup -> Extensibility option by Super Administrator and is the unified delivery mechanism to get all new and updated entities (Agent software, plug ins, connectors, gold images, provisioning bundles etc) in EM 12c. Deploy Agents on all Compute nodes, and discover Exadata targets – Refer to Exadata discovery cookbook for detailed walkthrough to ensure successful discovery of Exadata targets. Configure Privilege Delegation Settings – This step involves deployment of privilege setting template on all the nodes by Super Administrator via Setup menu -> Security option with the option to define whether to use sudo or powerbroker for all provisioning and patching operations. Provision Grid Infrastructure with RAC Database on Compute Nodes – Software is provisioned in this step via a provisioning profile using EM 12c database provisioning. In case of Exadata, Grid Infrastructure and RAC Database software is already deployed on compute nodes via OneCommand from Oracle, so SSA Administrator just needs to discover Oracle Homes and Listener as EM targets. Databases will be created as and when users request for databases from cloud. Customize Create Database Deployment Procedure – the actual database creation steps are "templatized" in this step by Self Service Administrator and the newly saved deployment procedure will be used during service template creation in next step. This is an important step and make sure you have locked all the required variables marked as locked as ‘Y’ in this table. Setup Self Service Portal – This step involves setting up of zones, user quotas, service templates, chargeback plan. The SSA portal is setup by Self Service Administrator via Setup menu -> Cloud -> Database option and following guided workflow. Refer to DBaaS cookbook for details. You also have an option to customize SSA login page via steps documented in EM 12c Cloud Administrator’s guide Final Checks – Define and document process guidelines for SSA users and administrators. Get your SSA users trained on Self Service Portal features and overall DBaaS model and SSA administrators should be familiar with Self Service Portal setup pieces, EM 12c database lifecycle management capabilities and overall EM 12c monitoring framework. GO LIVE – Announce rollout of Database-as-a-Service to your SSA users. Users can login to the Self Service Portal and request/monitor/view their databases in Exadata based database cloud. Congratulations! You just delivered a successful database cloud implementation project! • Simple MySQL Query taking 45 seconds (Gets a record and its "latest" child record)

  I have a query which gets a customer and the latest transaction for that customer. Currently this query takes over 45 seconds for 1000 records. This is especially problematic because the script itself may need to be executed as frequently as once per minute! I believe using subqueries may be the answer, but I've had trouble constructing it to actually give me the results I need. SELECT customer.CustID, customer.leadid, customer.Email, customer.FirstName, customer.LastName, transaction.*, MAX(transaction.TransDate) AS LastTransDate FROM customer INNER JOIN transaction ON transaction.CustID = customer.CustID WHERE customer.Email = '".$email."' GROUP BY customer.CustID ORDER BY LastTransDate LIMIT 1000 I really need to get this figured out ASAP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
