  For many projects we had to choose a CMS platform. I came across a few CMS platforms based on .NET. I want to know your experience. Community Server (cannot be called a true CMS) DotNetNuke (DNN) Umbraco Kentico Sitefinity Can you please touch upon the following points: UI customization. Feature extension. Third party extensions Support And most important: how much time it takes to learn, as a programmer and someone who manages the application with little or no programming knowledge. • Display a "Waiting Menssage" before the POST form send

  I have a upload file form, when you hit Submit it send the file to my server, but it takes a while, in the mean time i need to tell the user wait in order to get the file uploaded, because he can press Submit again because there is no menssage to prevent him. So, the user fill a few fields in the form, including a file. When he Send the form it sends the variables via POST to the same page: <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post"> A php script detect the page now have POST variables a do something. In the time between the send action and the page reload i need to display a mensage, how can i do that??? Thanks It will be nice if you now how to trigger that with colorbox. I know how to use it from a link but no from this POST action.

• Is there a tool for generating a DSL parser that does not require a runtime for the resultant parser

  I'm doing a lot of work with a DSLs at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew of a tool that could generate a parser for my bnf specification that does not require a run-time library (pure java source parser)? I'm committed to using XTEXT for a future Eclipse plug-in but I need a nice small version for my library itself and don't want to add another jar dependency. It seems that ANTLR requires a run-time to parse files and I performed a Google search with no avail. Can anyone help out? Thanks, Chris

• comparator with null values.

  Hi, We have some code wich sorts a list of addresses based on the distance between their coordinates. this is done through collections.sort with a custom comparator. However from time to time an adress without coordinates is in the list causing a NullPointerException. My initial idea to fix this was to have the comparator return 0 as dististance for addresses where at least one of the coordinates is null. I fear this might lead to corruption of the order the 'valid' elements in the list. so is returning a '0' values for null data in a comparator ok, or is there a cleaner way to resolve this.

• Detect car acceleration in Android app?

  I want to incorporate some Accelerometer code into a Android application im working and want to see if this is possible. Basically what I need is for the code to detect car acceleration motion. I am not wanting to determine speed with the code but just distinguish if the phone is in a car and has accelerated motion (Hence the car is moving for the first time). I have gone through many different accelerometer applications to see if this motion produces a viable profile to go off of and it appears it does. Just looking for something that popups a "Hello World" dialog when it detects your in the car and its moving for the first time down the street. Any help would be appreciated and a simple yes or no its possible would work. I would also be interested in compensating anyone that is capable of doing this as well. I need this done like yesterday so please let me know. Thank You, JTW

  When connected to a local RVD a sending application is shielded from network interruptions and the send message methods will only block for the time it takes for the message to reach the local RVD process. With remote RVD the sending application is no longer shielded from network interruptions and the send message methods will block for the time it takes to hop across the network to reach the remote RVD process. Is my understanding correct? The documentation is vague regarding remote daemons. I'm mostly concerned with how reliable and performant the send message will be from the perspective of a sending application. Introducing unnecessary blocking on the client side due to sending a message (especially a network hop) is a big no-no in this application. The speed at which the messages reach the consumer is not of the utmost importance. With this in mind is a remote RVD out of the question?

• differences between using wmode="transparent", "opaque", "window" for an embedded object on webpage

  when embedding a Flash object with the <object and <embed tag, there is an attribute called "wmode". It seems that most of the time, wmode="transparent" is the same as wmode="opaque" as the Flash doesn't actually have any transparent color so that the bottom HTML element is to be shown. As a result, "opaque" should be faster than "transparent" since it require less processing for transparency, yet most of the time i see Flash object embedded with "transparent" instead of "opaque". "opaque" is needed so that other HTML element won't be covered up by the Flash object. (such as a menu item that pops up an extra sub-menu won't be covered up by the Flash object). By the way, is there formal documentation for wmode's "opaque", "transparent", and "window"? I was only able to find blogs that describe it but not the formal documentation. thanks.

For min and max values changed listening for these events this.numDownMinLimit.ValueChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.numDownMinLimit_ValueChanged); this.numDownMaxLimit.ValueChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.numDownMaxLimit_ValueChanged); step size set is 0.1 The eventhandler takes some time to complete. If you keep the mouse pressed for a period of time and then release it, the eventhandler still executes with the previous values which were fired. How do we prevent this scenario from occurring? I would like to discard the remaining events which are still in the queue, waiting to be handled, when the user releases the mouse button.

  I'm maintaining a Windows CE app built with the .NET Framework that has about 45 forms. There are 5 'sections' which lead to the function you want. The application is 100% full screen and it is important that it can't be minimized. Since there are so many forms, it's difficult to keep track of which form should be displayed after one is closed. For this, I'm setting the form owner property before showing it, and showing the owner when closing it. I've also been advised that it is best to instantiate all forms when the application loads, and not dispose them to save processing time. I'm not sure about this. My question is, what is the best way to go about showing, hiding forms where you want any 1 form to be in front, full screen all time?

  Greetings! I am using the ASP.NET FileUpload control to allow users to upload text files to our web server. Everything works great in terms of saving the file to where we wanted, etc, using the SaveAs() method of the control. But we were caught off guard by one seemingly simple caveat: the original timestamp of the uploaded file was lost such as the date last modified and date create. The date last modified and date created become the actual date and time when the file is saved to the server. My question is: is there anyway to retain the original timestamp by setting some attributes that I am not aware of yet or is it possible to read the metadata of the file to get its original time stamp? Any in-sight and suggestions are greatly appreciated. John

• Android: custom view onClickEvent with X & Y locations

  Hi, I've got a custom view and I want to get the X and Y coordinates of a user click. I've found that I can only get the coordinates from the onTouchEvent and an onClickEvent won't fire if I have an onTouchEvent. Unfortunately the onTouchEventfires when the user drags the screen as well as clicking. I've tried to differentiate between the two, but I still get the code firing when I'm dragging: public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { int action = event.getAction(); if (action == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN) { //fires on drag and click I've had a look at this but as I mentioned above I don't think the solution there will work as I can't get the onClick and the onTouch events working at the same time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong in this respect, is there a normal way of dealing with capturing user input on custom events? Should I be able to use the onClick and onTouch events at the same time?   I am having an problem. First time working with a windows server, do you know if there is any problem in character coding? My document is set to content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" but it's giving me funny words... you can check it here. This site is a pure HTML with few includes but anything else is just HTML. I can convert them to HTML entities but that is basically wasting my time. I never had this problem with any website I did except for this. Some others said "The problems seems to be that you have converted the text into utf-8 twice.". But how would Coverted it twice since dreamweaver should convert it for me but in this case it doesn't.

• How to ignore/prevent javadoc folder from validation during Eclipse Build?

  In my war is a huge javadoc folder. There is no point in validating it since javadocs are produced by Sun(Oracle) javadoc utility. I have forgotten how I did it the last time. I need to tell Eclipse build not to validate that particular folder. Reasons why I need it: 1. the html produced by Sun javadoc generation utility does not meet the requirement that Eclipse uses - there is a bug report in Eclipse but Eclipse responds that Sun javadoc generator non-compliance is not their fault and that Eclipse intends to stick to their strict compliance. Which results in lots of html errors listed in the problems tab. 2. the javadoc folder is a remote link and high activity on that link is using up my cpu resource, and because it is a link to a remote location, that cpu high activity is sustained for long time until it finishes scanning the whole 35MB javadocs.   I have a blog, and I have been considering publishing a sitemap for it, which would include the index page, archives page, and an entry for each individual blog post. Is this ever a bad idea? Is it a good (or useful) idea? I'm particularly interested in the <changefreq> element: I edit posts from time to time, and while that's not a common occurrence, I don't want to set a particularly infrequent change frequency that prevents search engines like Google from indexing the edits. (The sitemaps protocol says that search engines may still crawl the pages more frequently, but has no further details on the matter.)

• jQuery/Javascript framework efficiency

  My latest project is using a javascript framework (jQuery), along with some plugins (validation, jquery-ui, datepicker, facebox, ...) to help make a modern web application. I am now finding pages loading slower than I am used to. After some js profiling (thanks VS2010!), it seems a lot of the time is taken procesing inside the framework. Now I understand the more complex the ui tools, the more processing needs to be done. The project is not yet at a large stage and I think would be average functions. At this stage I can see it is not going to scale well. I noticed things like the 'each' command in jQuery takes quite a lot of processing time. Have others experienced some extra latency using JS frameworks? How do I minimise their effect on page performance? Are there best practices on implementation using JS frameworks? Thanks

• AJAX ModalPopup Pops Behind (Under) Page Content (Negative z-index)

  I am having an issue with the AJAX ModalPopupExtender in version 40412 of the AJAX Control Toolkit (http://ajaxcontroltoolkit.codeplex.com/releases/view/43475). The first time the ModalPopup is made visible it works correctly. The z-index is set to 6001 (and the background Div's z-index is set to 6000) and the Popup appears above everything else. If the cancel button within the ModalPopup is clicked, it also has the correct functionality, the display is set to "none" and the ModalPopup is no longer visible. However, when the Popup is triggered again, the z-index is only set to 2000 which is still visible above everything else, but if it is canceled and triggered again it is set to -2000 which is not visible (the z-index is decreasing by 4000 each time). I'm not sure why this is happening. Any ideas how to fix it? Special circumstances: There are multiple ModalPopup's on the page. All ModalPopups are triggered in code-behind through partial-page postbacks (using the .Show() method) ModalPopupExtenders are within the same UpdatePanels that are displayed as popups

• Severe issues with document.GetElementById

  I've been using document.GetElementById succesfully but from some time on I can't make it work again. Old pages in which I used it still work but things as simple as this: <html> <head> <title>no title</title> <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementById("ThisWillBeNull").innerHTML = "Why is this null?"; </script> </head> <body> <div id="ThisWillBeNull"></div> </body> </html> Are giving me "document.getElementById("parsedOutput") is null" all the time now. It doesnt matter if I use Firefox or Chrome or which extensions i have enabled or what headers I use for the html, it's always null and I can't find what could be wrong. Thanks for your input =)

How to do so that ListView appearance under Windows XP is the same as under Vista?

  Hello, I just created a PHP page that spits outs some data from my database in an XML format. This data is fetched from a flex application I made. I had spent a long time formatting my tables and database information and do not want anyone to be able to simply type www.mysite.com/page_that_spits_out_XML.php and steal my data. However, at the same time I need to be able to access this page from my flex application. Is there a way I can prevent other people from doing this? Thank you!
