  • Opengl-es picking object

    - by lacas
    I saw a lot of picking code opengl-es, but nothing worked. Can someone give me what am I missing? My code is (from tutorials/forums) Vec3 far = Camera.getPosition(); Vec3 near = Shared.opengl().getPickingRay(ev.getX(), ev.getY(), 0); Vec3 direction = far.sub(near); direction.normalize(); Log.e("direction", direction.x+" "+direction.y+" "+direction.z); Ray mouseRay = new Ray(near, direction); for (int n=0; n<ObjectFactory.objects.size(); n++) { if (ObjectFactory.objects.get(n)!=null) { IObject obj = ObjectFactory.objects.get(n); float discriminant, b; float radius=0.1f; b = -mouseRay.getOrigin().dot(mouseRay.getDirection()); discriminant = b * b - mouseRay.getOrigin().dot(mouseRay.getOrigin()) + radius*radius; discriminant = FloatMath.sqrt(discriminant); double x1 = b - discriminant; double x2 = b + discriminant; Log.e("asd", obj.getName() + " "+discriminant+" "+x1+" "+x2); } } my camera vectors: //cam Vec3 position =new Vec3(-obj.getPosX()+x, obj.getPosZ()-0.3f, obj.getPosY()+z); Vec3 direction =new Vec3(-obj.getPosX(), obj.getPosZ(), obj.getPosY()); Vec3 up =new Vec3(0.0f, -1.0f, 0.0f); Camera.set(position, direction, up); and my picking code: public Vec3 getPickingRay(float mouseX, float mouseY, float mouseZ) { int[] viewport = getViewport(); float[] modelview = getModelView(); float[] projection = getProjection(); float winX, winY; float[] position = new float[4]; winX = (float)mouseX; winY = (float)Shared.screen.width - (float)mouseY; GLU.gluUnProject(winX, winY, mouseZ, modelview, 0, projection, 0, viewport, 0, position, 0); return new Vec3(position[0], position[1], position[2]); } My camera moving all the time in 3d space. and my actors/modells moving too. my camera is following one actor/modell and the user can move the camera on a circle on this model. How can I change the above code to working?

  • How to manage a Closed Source High-Risk Project?

    - by abel
    I am currently planning to develop a J2EE website and wish to bring in 1 developer and 1 web designer to assist me. The project is a financial app with a niche market. I plan to keep the source closed . However, I fear that my would-be employees could easily copy the codebase and use it /sell it to a third party especially when they switch jobs. The app development will take 4-6months and perhaps more and I may have to bring in people after the app goes live. How do I keep the source to myself. Are there techniques companies use to guard their source. I foresee disabling pendrives and dvd writers on my development machines, but uploading data or attaching the code in one's mail would still be possible. My question is incomplete. But programmers who have been in my situation, please advice. How should I go about this? Building a team, maintaining code-secrecy,etc. I am looking forward to sign a secrecy contract with the employees if needed too. (Please add relevant tags) Update Thank you for all the answers. I certainly won't be disabling all USB ports and DVD writers now. But I think I should be logging activity(How exactly should I do that?) I am wary of scalpers who would join and then run off with the existing code. I haven't met any, but I have been advised to be wary of them. I would include a secrecy clause, but given this is a startup with almost no funding and in a highly competitive business niche with bigger players in the field, I doubt I would be able to detect or pursue any scalpers. How do I hire people I trust, when I don't know them personally. Their resume will be helpful but otherwise trust will develop only with time. But finally even if they do run away with the code, it is service that matters after the sale is made. So I am not really worried for the long term.

  • How to make sure you see the truth with Management Studio

    - by fatherjack
    LiveJournal Tags: TSQL,How To,SSMS,Tips and Tricks Did you know that SQL Server Management Studio can mislead you with how your code is performing? I found a query that was using a scalar function to return a date and wanted to take the opportunity to remove it in favour of a table valued function that would be more efficient. The original function was simply returning the start date of the current financial year. The code we were using was: ALTER  FUNCTION...(read more)

  • CodePlex learns to talk to other services!

    CodePlex is now able to talk to other services! For example, if you want CodePlex to tell Trello to update cards on your Trello board, it can do it. Or if you want CodePlex to notify your Campfire chat room when updates are pushed, it can do that too. To start off, we are going to be adding support for the following services: Campfire – Notify a Campfire chat room when commits occur HipChat – Notify a HipChat chat room when commits occur Trello – Add commit summaries to Trello cards by referencing those cards in commit messages Twitter – Notify your Twitter followers when updates are pushed to your project In addition, we will continue to support our existing integrations with Windows Azure – Continuously deploy to Windows Azure on pushes (For Git and Hg projects) AppHarbor – Continuously deploy to AppHarbor on pushes To set up these integrations for your project, navigate to the project settings page as a project coordinator, and click on the services section as seen below:   While we are starting with these six services, the infrastructure is now in place to allow us to quickly roll out new integrations. We would love to hear which services and integrations you would like to see most on our suggestions page. We realize that there are some services and URLs that only make sense for your project to send notifications to. To support this scenario, we plan to add generic web hooks in the near future. Have ideas on how to improve CodePlex? Please visit our suggestions page! Vote for existing ideas or submit a new one. As always you can reach out to the CodePlex team on Twitter @codeplex or reach me directly @Rick_Marron.

  • Is it okay for programmers to be given the task of outlining database requirements?

    - by L'Ingenu
    In my current job, dba's and programmers are divided in tasks. Any code that needs to be written in procedures dba's write, and programmers do only application code. The strange thing is that whenever a task needs to be defined/specced, programmers get the task, and we have to define all the procedures needed and what they should return. Is this a common practice in software development? Are programmers generally the ones tasked with building requirements for the database side?
