Browser dependent problem rendering WMD with Showdown.js?

This should be easy (at least no one else seems to be having a similar problem), but I can't see where it is breaking. I'm storing Markdown'ed text in a database that is entered on a page in my app. The text is entered using WMD and the live preview looks correct. On another page, I'm retrieving the markdown text and using Showdown.js to convert it back to HTML client-side for display. Let's say I have this text: The quick **brown** fox jumped over the *lazy* dogs. 1. one 1. two 4. three 17. four I'm using this snippet of Javascript in my jQuery document ready event to convert it: var sd = new Attacklab.showdown.converter(); $(".ClassOfThingsIWantConverted").each(function() { this.innerHTML = sd.makeHtml($(this).html()); } I suspect this is where my problem is, but it almost works. In FireFox, I get what I expected: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs. one two three four But in IE (7 and 6), I get this: The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs. 1. one 1. two 4. three 17. four So apparently, IE is stripping the breaks in my markdown code and just converting them to spaces. When I do a view source of the original code (prior to the script running), the breaks are there inside the container DIV. What am I doing wrong? UPDATE It is caused by the IE innerHTML/innerText "quirk" and I should have mentioned before that this one on an ASP.Net page using data bound controls - there are obviously a lot of different workarounds otherwise.

how to get jquery.couch.app.js to work with IE8

I have tested this on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate in IE7 and IE8 (in all compatiblity modes) and it fails the same way on both. I am running the latest HEAD from the the couchapp repository. This works fine on my OSX 10.6.3 development machine. I have tested with Chrome 4.1.249.1064 (45376) and Firefox 3.6 and they both work fine. What is the optimum way to secure a company wide wiki?

We have a wiki which is used by over half our company. Generally it has been very positively received. However, there is a concern over security - not letting confidential information fall into the wrong hands (i.e. competitors). The default answer is to create a complicated security matrix defining who can read what document (wiki page) based on who created it. Personally I think this mainly solves the wrong problem because it creates barriers within the company instead of a barrier to the external world. But some are concerned that people at a customer site might share information with a customer which then goes to the competitor. The administration of such a matrix is a nightmare because (1) the matrix is based on department and not projects (this is a matrix organisation), and (2) because in a wiki all pages are by definition dynamic so what is confidential today might not be confidential tomorrow (but the history is always readable!). Apart from the security matrix, we've considered restricting content on the wiki to non super secret stuff, but off course that needs to be monitored. Another solution (the current) is to monitor views and report anything suspicious (e.g. one person at a customer site having 2000 views in two days was reported). Again - this is not ideal because this does not directly imply a wrong motive. Does anyone have a better solution? How can a company wide wiki be made secure and yet keep its low threshold USP? BTW we use MediaWiki with Lockdown to exclude some administrative staff.

jQuery attribute question

I'm trying to select a series of divs one at a time. I'm sure theres a better way to do this, but I gave them all unique rels and I'm using the rels to select them one at a time. I want to move them over the width of the div, then animate it dropping down the screen. Restart list numbering in word for each new list created

Hi, I am exporting content from a jsp page into MS Word using javascript. When the user is in Word there is a table with 10 rows and 2 columns, A & B. The user creates an ordered list in row 1, column A like this: 1 dog 2 cat 3 mouse if the user then creates a second list in row 1 column B is turns out like this: 4 car 5 truck 6 bike instead of: 1 car 2 truck 3 bike Word is set up to continue the numbering in lists from prior lists automatically. I know this can be reset easily but the users dont want to have to do this. They want the numbering of any potential lists created to restarted at 1. when the document is exported into Word and opened in front of them. So this must be set up in the javasctipt code or using a style or something prior to getting into Word. This is what I dont know how to do. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Feena.

ASP.Net MVC 2 - How to set up a Cancel button with client side navigation

For Web Forms I could use the javascript Back() or Go(-1) functions, but they relied on postbacks. I could of course hard code the previous page and controller as I have done above. However I am struggling to find links that explain to me how Url.Action works. Because if I do this, I also need to include an index parameter, and I am not clear how the syntax works for that. It seems odd the amount of coding to do this. Out of curiosity, I am also wondering how you TDD client side code like this.

IE event callback object JavaScript

I may be WAY off on my terminology, so please feel free to correct me. Perhaps this is why I cannot seem to find anything relevant. No libraries, please. I have an event handler, which invokes a callback function. Fancy, right? In IE<9 the this object in the handler is the window. I don't know why, or how to access the correct object. if (document.addEventListener){ element.addEventListener(event, callback, false); } else { element.attachEvent('on' +event, callback); } This part DOES WORK. This part doesn't: function callback(event){ console.log(this); } this in IE is returning [object Window], whereas it returns the element that called the callback function in every other browser. This is cut down significantly from my full script, but this should be everything that's relevant. EDIT This link provided by @metadings How to reference the caller object ("this") using attachEvent is very close. However, there are still two issues. 1) I need to get both the event object and the DOM element calling this function. 2) This event is handled delegation style: there may be child DOM elements firing the event, meaning event.target is not necessarily (and in my case, not typically) the element with the listener.

I have to send a name and a link from client side to the server. I thought of using AJAX called by Javascript to do this. This is what I mean. How do you reenable a validation control w/o it simultaneously perform an immediate validation?

When I called this function to enable a validator from client javascript: `ValidatorEnable(document.getElementById('<%=valPassportOtherText.ClientID%>'), true); //enable` validation control the required validation control immediately performed it validation, found the value in the associated text box blank and set focus to the textbox (because SetFocusOnError was set to true). Jquery problem - cant expand the row above in a table

Hi People, What I cant figure out is how I would toggle a row in a table using the one below it. So say I have a table with 2 rows the first contains content and the one below contains a button, when the page loads the content row is hidden and when you click the button it toggles the content row on and off. PHP Redirection with Post Parameters

Hello, I have a webpage. This webpage redirects the user to another webpage, more or less the following way: <form method="post" action="anotherpage.php" id="myform"> <?php foreach($_GET as $key => $value){ echo "<input type='hidden' name='{$key}' value='{$value}' />"; } ?> </form> <script> document.getElementById('myform').submit(); </script> Well, you see, what I do is transferring the GET params into POST params. Do not tell me it is bad, I know that myself, and it is not exactly what I really do, what is important is that I collect data from an array and try submitting it to another page via POST. But if the user has JavaScript turned off, it won't work. What I need to know: Is there a way to transfer POST parameters by means of PHP so the redirection can be done the PHP way (header('Location: anotherpage.php');), too? It is very important for me to pass the params via POST. I cannot use the $_SESSION variable because the webpage is on another domain, thus, the $_SESSION variables differ. Anyway, I simply need a way to transfer POST variables with PHP ^^ Thanks in advance!

Opening a pdf in .NET

In the application we are working on we are trying to implement Help. We have a help pdf document and for the moment it has been deemed acceptable that when users click the help button it just opens the pdf. The application is a desktop app and the pdf file needs to be included in the install somehow and installed on the local machine. I essentially need two things: How would I add this pdf to the application so that it is available on the client machine after install? I can either put it in the resources of the project, or else I could put it in the Application Folder of the client setup installer. How would I open this pdf? I can either open this pdf by just launching the default pdf viewer for the file, or I can use the System.WinForms.WebBrowser tool to display it. However if I choose the second option, I am unsure of how to access the file stored in the resources or find it in the install folder. If you could please provide me with the code to do this (either in VB.Net or C#.Net) that would be great.

Helpful advice on developing a professional MS Word add-on

A few months back I put together a simple proof-of-concept piece of software for a small firm with an idea for a document editing tool. The company wanted this tool to be integrated into Microsoft Word, understandably, to maximize its accessibility to the average user. I essentially wrote the underlying library with all of the core functionality as a C# project, and then used VSTO to get it running inside of Word. It felt like a bit of a duct tape solution, really; but then, I have (practically) zero experience developing tools for integration with MS Office, and it was only a proof of concept anyway. Well, the firm was quite pleased with my work overall, and they're looking to move from "proof of concept" to the real deal. Fortunately, as I said, the core functionality is all there and will only need to be somewhat tweaked and enhanced. My main concern is figuring out how to put together an application that will integrate with MS Word in a clean and polished way, and which can be deployed easily in accordance with a regular user's expectations (i.e., simply running an install program and voila, it's there in Word). I seem to remember reading somewhere that nobody uses VSTO for real professional projects. Is this true? False? What are the alternatives? And what are the tips and gotchas that I should be aware of before getting started on this issue of MS Word integration?

bind event handler on keydown listen function JavaScript jQuery

I am trying to bind a handler to an event. The event is a keydown function. The handler will listen for hit variables to produce one of two conditions. The 1st condition (odd number of hits) will perform 1 function, the 2nd (even number of hits) will perform another function. To elaborate, the 1st function will scroll to one element, the 2nd will scroll to another element. My syntax may be the wrong approach, but it works for the 1st condition, but not the 2nd. I think I have the conditional statement in the wrong place. How can I rewrite this to work as intended? Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it referenced. (Probably because nobody else would want to do such a daft thing, I admit). So, I have a page with three iframes in it. An event on one triggers a javascript function which loads new pages into the other two iframes; ['topright'] and ['bottomright']. However, javascript in the page that is being loaded into iframe 'topright' then needs to send information to elements in the 'bottomright' iframe. window.frames['bottomright'].document.subform.ID_client = client; etc But this will only work if the page has fully loaded into the bottomright frame. So what would be the most efficient way for that code in the 'topright' iframe to check and ensure that that form element in the bottomright frame is actually available to write to, before it does write to it? Bearing in mind that the page load has NOT been triggered from the topright frame, so I can't simply use an onLoad function. (I know this probably sounds like a hideously tortuous route for getting data from one page to another, but that's another story. The client is always right, etc...:-))

SPWorkflowCollection on SPListItem is always empty

Hi I'm having a problem relating to Sharepoint workflows and the associated task list. I have 2 custom workflows that we created for our product. They both use the same Task list that has a custom content type that inherits from the Task content type. Now I have a case where a running workflow has been deleted via the list has been deleted or the document, this results in orphaned tasks. I want to overwrite the Task lists OnDeleting event, so that users can cleanup their tasks so that it won't contain unneccessary orphaned tasks. So my item deleting looks like this public override void ItemDeleting(SPItemEventProperties properties) { SPListItem currentListItem = properties.ListItem; } The problem is that when I go into debug mode and check the currentListItem.Workflows.Count field then it's always 0. It doesn't matter which workflow I initiate or what task i look at, the SPWorkflowCollection returned is always empty :( I was wondering if this might be related to a bug in our custom workflow where it's not wired up properly (but it finishes correctly and tasks are deleted when a workflow is terminated) or am I looking at this the wrong way ?

[jQuery 1.4] move one div over another

I have two div elements that are twins (i.e. their dimensions and contents are identical). I want to move of those div-s over another, so that their corners are at exactly the same coordinates. What I try to do is: var offset = $('div#placeholder').offset(); $('div#overlay').css('position', 'absolute').css('left', offset.left + 'px').css('top', offset.top + 'px') -- but this causes the overlay to be exactly (or almost exactly, taking subpixel accuracy into account) 16px below the placeholder (below, i.e. overlay_top = placeholder_top + 16px). I'm aware that offset() gives position relative to the document, and position: absolute sets position relative to body element, but compensating for body offset() doesn't help much (I'm getting 8px offset, equal to margins): offset.top -= $('body').offset().top; offset.left -= $('body').offset().left; Also, compensating for body margins (in case they were different that offset() didn't help, as they were set to 8px). Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong here? UPDATE: Take a look at here - I'm getting the same result in FireFox 3.6.3 and Opera 10.10.

How to correctly load dependent JavaScript files

I am trying to extent a website page that displays google maps with the LabeledMarker. Google Maps API defines a class called GMarker which is extended by the LabeledMarker. The problem is, I cant seem to load the LabeledMarker script properly, i.e. after the Google API loads and I get the 'GMarker not defined' error. What is the correct way to specify the scripts in such cases? I am using ASP.NET's ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptInclude() first for the google API url and then immediately after with the LabeledMarker script file. The initial google API loader writes further script links that load the actual GMarker class. Shouldnt all those scripts be executed before the next script block(LabeledMarker script) is processed. I have checked the generated HTML and the script blocks are emitted in the right order. <script src="google api url" type="text/javascript"></script> ... (the above scripts uses document.write() etc to append further script blocks/sources) ... <script src="Scripts/LabeledMarker.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Once again, the LabeledMarker.js seems to get executed before the google API finishes loading.

I am using the DOM extension to parse an xml file containing xml namespaces. I would have that namespace declarations are treated just like any other attribute, but my tests seem to disagree.
