• Django cannot find my templatetags, even though it's in INSTALLED_APPS and has a __init__.py

  I just installed django-compress (http://code.google.com/p/django-compress) into /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/compress. I added 'compress' to INSTALLED_APPS. In my template file, I wrote {% load compressed %}. I got the error: 'compressed' is not a valid tag library: Could not load template library from django.templatetags.compressed, No module named compressed I verified that there is an init.py in compress, as well as in compress/templatetags/. I tried putting the compress directory into PYTHONPATH. I ran python and wrote "import compress" and that worked. Your suggestions would be very appreciated! What else can I try?

• Modularizing web applications

  Hey all, I was wondering how big companies tend to modularize components on their page. Facebook is a good example: There's a team working on Search that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc.. There's a team working on the news feed that has its own CSS, javascript, html, etc... ... And the list goes on They cannot all be aware of what everyone is naming their div tags and whatnot, so what's the controller(?) doing to hook all these components in on the final page?? Note: This doesn't just apply to facebook - any company that has separate teams working on separate components has some logic that helps them out. EDIT: Thanks all for the responses, unfortunately I still haven't really found what I'm looking for - when you check out the source code (granted its minified), the divs have UIDs, my guess is that there is a compilation process that runs through and makes each of the components unique, renaming divs and css rules.. any ideas?   Previously there have been questions on what makes a good team lead and what makes a good programming team, but I can't find any questions on what makes a good programmer. I believe the answer to this question is especially important in the context of hiring. Hiring the best people you can afford only works when you are able to identify who the best people are. Being able to consistently identify the best people is only possible when you know what makes the best people the best people. The easy answer is "smart and gets things done" (see "Done, and Gets Things Smart" for an interesting response). But surely there is more to being a good software developer than this aphorism. So, what makes a good software developer a good software developer? (Note: For the purposes of this question, I'm not interested in how to actually tell if somebody is a good software developer.)

  Hi, I'm trying to convert this c code(http://nashruddin.com/OpenCV_Eye_Detection) to the python code, but in c style, he used cvROI thing, since ROI functions are not supported by python-opencv, I tried cvGetSubRect so Here is the eye detection part of the code : eye_region = cvGetSubRect(image,cvRect(face.x,int(face.y + (face.height/4)),face.width,int(face.height/2))) eyes = cvHaarDetectObjects(eye_region,eyeCascade,memo,1.15,3,0,cvSize(25,15)) for e in eyes: cvRectangle(image, cvPoint( int(e.x), int(e.y)), cvPoint(int(e.x + e.width), int(e.y + e.height)), CV_RGB(0, 255, 0), 1, 8, 0) return image; When I run this code, It draws rectangles irrelevant places. I thought, eye_region coordinates are wrong, and tried some coordinates, but it didn't work. Any idea ? Note :Face detection method works very well, and it's code is same with the eye detection method.

• fast, clean, C, timsort implementation?

  Does anyone know of a clean implementation of timsort? The Python sources contain a description and code for the original timsort, but it is understandably full of python-specific calls. I have a smoothly varying 2D array of double floats that I would like to sort as quickly as possible. It ought to contain a lot of monotonically increasing and decreasing runs. I'd like to try timsorting the rows individually, and then merging the sorted rows. If you know of a better sort technique, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!
