  I had reason to meet up with someone I don't see very often a bit ago. In the course of the conversation, he told me he bought an iPad. I don't know if I was expected to ooh and ahh, but I didn't. After he finished saying how cool it was and how much he and his wife liked it, I commented "no Flash and no Silverlight" after which followed this: Him: "You don't need it, HTML5 can do everything Flash and Silverlight does" Me: "Wait... you're telling me that the iPad converts existing Flash content into HTML5 and then renders it?" Him: "No, but once all the existing sites are converted to HTML 5 it'll be fine and we don't need Flash... or Silverlight" 'all the existing sites' ... huh ... I didn't get a notice, maybe they're doing them alphabetically or something :) Ok Spanky... you keep drinking that Kool-Aide from Steve, I've got mine... it's blue with Silverlight:

• Need more RAM?? Running VMmachine + ubuntu

  So I looked but im running ubuntu in vm machine and its running at a snails pace and I installed the 64bit ver. Running windows 7 64bit the down side is that I only have 2GB of ram installed.....bummer huh I know the answer is im going to need more ram I just want to confirm... Or is there an tip that I can do change some settings to make it run faster in VM? I just want verification on what steps I can take if any to speed things up? Thanks Experts!

• KDE Sometimes Glitches On Wakeup

  Well, a picture is work 1k words: Looks bad, huh? I am using the 331-updates latest 331.67 drivers from NVidia's website on a Dell Latitude e6400. Everything else is up-to-date. This only happens when I resume from sleep, or I switch to a VT and back. It also doesn't ALWAYS happen, which I find odd. Graphics Card: Nvidia Quadro NVS160M UPDATE AFTER TESTING: This problem only exists with KDE (specifically QT). I can go into Unity or Mint or any non QT-based GUI and it works perfectly with no resume errors. UPDATE: This only happens when I use KWin (and KDE). I have upgraded to 14.04 and the problem is not occurring as frequently. Also, sometimes this effect doesn't happen, but instead the top menu bar simply goes out of focus with the rest of the screen goes blank.

Make it so damned difficult to cancel your windows phone dev account subscription, that you will just give up trying and pay as the easy route out.Very sad that it has come to this. Usually I would not approach an open forum such as my site for such issues, but the sad state of their affairs leaves me with no choice. Here is the issue, last year, I opened a WPDev account, for which you have to pay. Seeing that its been a year, I haven’t submitted anything, I didn’t want to renew my account and pay the fee. I guess if I ever write a WP app, I will reopen the subscription. Sounds about right huh? fair? So, what would you expect? Login to your account, find the subscription, hit cancel! • Google Maps keeps displaying in Spanish

• WHy CAps lock is too slow to turn off in Ubuntu?

  *TH*is is a strange problem. *NO*tice how the beginning of my sentences include two capitals? Well, over the years I have developed a terrible habit... and it may be too late to fix. Instead of holding shift like a normal person to capitalize my works, I hit Caps Lock, then hit the letter, then hit Caps Lock again. PRetty weird huh? I Took an official government typing test recently and scored 99 words a minute, so it hasn't been a huge hindrance until now that I use Ubuntu. IN Ubuntu, often when I do my crazy method of typing, the Caps LOck won't turn off fast enough. IT's not my keyboard. I didn't have this problem in WIndows. IT's extremely annoying. Is there a cure for this? Took the question from Ubuntu forums because it's just explaining the same problem I am having here.

  Sometimes there are so many changes to the environment in which we work and live in that something will escape our attention. In discussing functionality with a client today, the topic of Site Directory came up and the comment of “well, we use it but it is too bad it is not available in 2010” was made … and huge sense of huh?!? came to me. Well, the item that escaped me came to light (and I know there are others).  So researching about it was not only an option it was/is my duty. • Can't remove c:/ubuntu folder pleas help?

  hi today i downloaded ubuntu with wubi-installer on my windows 7 machine but after restarting pc and booting in ubuntu installer my pc shuts down while installing because my laptops battery was gone empty i forgot to plug in my adapter so ubunutu fails to install, then i booted in windows 7 to uninstall ubuntu from add/remove programs en reainstall but the uninstaller did not fully remove the files i still have i folder in my c:/ubuntu when i double click on that folder my explorer.exe stops responding and than i need to open the task manager to kill the explorer.exe procces and restart it and right clicking does the same thing i cant do anyting with c:/ubuntu folder to reinstall ubuntu with wubi i have used unlocker1.9 to remove the folder but i get an error saying Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error HUH ! please help please :( EDIT: Okay i fixed my problem after following this instruction ! i don't understand why you people did not ask me to do this but it's okay i forgive you my poeple LoL !

• Permission denied for cvs server via ssh

  I cant create a new project by importing a java project via eclipse onto my cvs server via internet. I created a directory as root called /priv/cvs/. Then i called "cvs -d /priv/cvs/ init". I created a user named cvs and a groups called cvs. The repository is owned by cvs and in group cvs. Then i created a user "ben" and his only group is cvs. I "chrooted" the user "ben" accessing only the cvs functionality by not allowing to access the server via ssh with password, only by using a public key which is added in his home directory on the server in file authorized_keys2. the contect of authorized_keys2 is as follows: no-port-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,command="/usr/bin/cvs server" ssh-rsa [public_key_content] rsa-key Connecting to the server works pretty fine. Eclipse asks for the passphrase for the private key to connect to the server. Authentication works and eclipse is able to run cvs commands. But when importing my project by using Team-Share Project. I get the error: The server reported an error: Permission denied projectname: cvs server: cannot open /priv/cvs/CVSROOT/config: Permission denied projectname: Cannot access /priv/cvs/CVSROOT The access right for the cvs root (/priv/cvs/) is set to 770. Which means that the owner, which is cvs and the group participants of the group cvs are allowed to read and write. Why do i get Permission denied? When i set the folder to 777, which means read/write to ALL, then it works. But i dont want that. I only want cvs users read/write to this folder? Is there something i misunderstood about access rules?

  Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it.   I am playing with the unix hexdump utility. My input file is UTF-8 encoded, containing a single character ñ, which is C3 B1 in hexadecimal UTF-8. hexdump test.txt 0000000 b1c3 0000002 Huh? This shows B1 C3 - the inverse of what I expected! Can someone explain? For getting the expected output I do: hexdump -C test.txt 00000000 c3 b1 |..| 00000002 I was thinking I understand encoding systems..

• Appengine filter inequality and ordering fails

  I think I'm overlooking something simple here, I can't imagine this is impossible to do. I want to filter by a datetime attribute and then order the result by a ranking integer attribute. When I try to do this: query.filter("submitted >=" thisweek).order("ranking") I get the following: BadArgumentError: First ordering property must be the same as inequality filter property, if specified for this query; received ranking, expected submitted Huh? What am I missing? Thanks.

• Factory(:user) hits database?

  Playing around with factories, which I read weren't supposed to hit the database, allowing you to avoid having your controller specs interacting with the DB. But when I fire up the Rails console in test and use a factory to create a sample user, I noticed an actual user gets created in the database. Huh? (Using Rails 2.3.8 and Factory Girl 1.2.3.)

  Hi all, I have just setup two servers running 10.04 server and have installed the ubuntu-desktop as follows: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop The problem is even though it says it has installed it will not auto-start... I've tried this: sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.conf /etc/init/gdm.disabled sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.disabled /etc/init/gdm.conf To enable/disable it but still not joy. Any ideas? Thanks, Ben

• Acer M5 481pt 6488 use of touchscreen stylus

  I am wanting to do some basic drawing with Adobe Illustrator using a touchscreen stylus. I was looking at an answer to a different question, and Ben Richards had made mention that laptops that support digitizer (possibly wrong terminology) technology is superior. I tried a quick search to see if my model supports that, but I couldn't find anything. How can I find out if my laptop supports this technology? Thanks a bunch!

• ubuntu gnome short cut keys

  Hi, I have done something quite silly and not sure how to fix it. I modified some of the gnome keyboard short cuts and was trying to disable the "Run Application" command. In the process I assigned it to the delete key and every time I hit delete the "Run Application" window comes up. It would not normally be a problem but the "Keyboard Shortcuts" no long has the short cut in the window so I can't disable it. Any help advice would be appreciated. Cheers Ben
