It's pretty easy to build one, since all we need to do is to create a circuit that can detect small fluctuations in the electromagnetic field, just like the fluctuations that ghosts cause when they pass by... Naturally, right? So, we build a static charge sensor and will use a Java Embedded app to monitor for changes in the sensor value, running analytics using Java technology on a Raspberry Pi. • How to implement custom texture formats in Android?

  What I know: Android can load PNG, BMP, WEBP,... via BitmapFactory. What I want to achive: Load my own 2D file format (e.g. 1-bit texture with a 1-bit alpha channel) and output a RGBA8888 texture. Question: Is there any interface to achieve this?(or any other way) The resulting image is used as a texture for a 3D model. Why would you do that? Saving phone memory and download bandwidth while expanding the texture at runtime to RAM seems reasonable for very simple textures.

• Ubuntu 12.04 wireless detected, but can't connect to 128-bit WEP enabled microsoft MS-700 base station

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a Presario R 3000. The Wireless card was not detected (firmware missing). Based on several related posts, I downloaded and installed the b43 driver and wireless was finally enabled. However, I am unable to connect to my base station successfully. The base station is configured for WEP 128-bit. I tried both infrastructure mode and ad-hoc mode (with the channel, band, etc. configured). Appreciate any help in trying to get past this.

• How to render a texture partly transparent?

  Good Morning StackOverflow, I'm having a bit of a problem right now as I can't seem to find a way to render part of a texture transparently with openGL. Here is my setting : I have a quad, representing a wall, covered with this texture (converted to PNG for uploading purposes). Obviously, I want the wall to be opaque, except for the panes of glass. There is another plane behind the wall which is supposed to show a landscape. I want to see the landscape from behind the window. Each texture is a TGA with alpha channel. The "landscape" is rendered first, then the wall. I thought it would be sufficient to achieve this effect but apparently it's not the case. The part of the window supposed to be transparent is black and the landscape only appears when I move past the wall. I tried to fiddle with GLBlendFunc() after having enabled it but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Am i forgetting an important step ? Thank you :)

• I need advice on how to debug a cluster

  I'm the only developer of a complex critical software system, written in Visual C++ 2005. It's deployed on a classical Microsoft cluster scenario (active/passive), that has Windows Server 2003 R2. If a server A goes down, the other one (B) starts and take the ownership of its duties. You have to know that: both servers have the same Microsoft patches/fixes, same hardware, same everything. both servers use the same memory storage (a RAID-6 through fiber channel). this software has a main module who launch the peripheral modules. if a peripheral module crashes, the main module restarts it. When I switch the application in one of the two servers (let's say the B server) two of the peripheral modules of the main applications just started to crash apparently without reason about 2 seconds after the start of the peripheral module. What could I do to analyze/inspect/resolve this weird situation?

• Weird sound problems after upgrading to 13.10 (macbook)

  I have been having a very weird problem with my sound lately: 1)My right channel is extremely disorted with relativly loud noises, tested with several headphones. 2) After a while, wiered noises start coming from my speakers 3) playing lots of sounds at once causes the the output to become really mushed, e.g. in lmms or games. all points to a: a fault in my sound card, or b: a fault in alsa or pulseaudio, but I don't know how to find out. I will now try using the alsa-daily, and edit this away depending on my results after a restart

I now that I can use openGL ES. but I have now back ground and in a few weeks I dont think that i'm able to learn that . what about android processing ? could it be used for extensive visualization task like this? or it's limited ? • amixer volume controls applies twice

  The volume increment or decrement is happening double the intended amount using amixer for my alsa driver using ./amixer -c 0 set Master 1- command. This happens becuase by default volume controls apply for both playback and capture moduels. My alsa driver config doesnt enabled any of the capture controls. even there is no capture enabled, the function from simple_none.c returns true for capture channel. • skype crashes, also audio problems 13.10

  Ive always had problems with skype ususally with audio, trying to keep the usb headphones set correctly. Wha tive found is that when i see the Pulseaudio server in the audio list in Skype, and thats my only option, Skype works good,...stable and reliable. Second issue: Its been crashing a bit, just locks up and the only thing to free it up is a reboot,.. These problems are under the new release 13.10. so concider this a bug report. DEVELOPERS: You all need to make a good channel for people to report bugs,.... OK thats all/

  We've uploaded our track Turnover two times. This because one of the tracks was uploaded on a Swedish radio channel and we wanted to see how many listeners it generated. Our question to you is if we can put together the two songs so we get the amount of listeners, likes, comments and repost into one? It would be great if you could fix this. We want to save the URL from the one with most listeners since the link to that track still is uploaded on Swedish National Radio P3s site.

  I've got several div id's, each containing a different client. I want to be able to click the delete button and using ajax and jquery delete the specific div from the database. I'm getting success in AJAX but it's not deleting anything from the DB. • Can you recommend an effective and cheap CDN for video streaming?

  I am looking for a streaming CDN recommendation. Cost and performance are my chief concerns. Video viewers may be all over the globe, with the, US, Europe, Russia and South America topping the list (yes, I know that leaves out a little :-). I saw the following list of streaming CDNs in LinkedIn: Akamai, BitGravity, EdgeCast, Highwinds, Internap, Level3, Limelight, Mirror Image, Move Networks, Qbrick, SimpleCDN, StreamZilla, Swarmcast (streaming via HTTP), WINK Streaming... (+Amazon's S3 and CloudFront) Can anyone recommend any of these or others? Or a different type of technology (e.g. P2P).

• NOT LIKE not working on comparison to a column

  Data is fairly large and takes few minutes to run it every time, so its taking a lot of time debugging this problem. When I run like concat('%',T.item,'%') on smaller data it seems to identify items properly. However, when I run it on the main DB (the code shown), it still shows many(maybe even all) of the exceptions. • How can unit testing make parameter validation redundant?

  We have a convention to validate all parameters of constructors and public functions/methods. For mandatory parameters of reference type, we mainly check for non-null and that's the chief validation in constructors, where we set up mandatory dependencies of the type. The number one reason why we do this is to catch that error early and not get a null reference exception a few hours down the line without knowing where or when the faulty parameter was introduced. As we start transitioning to more and more TDD, some team members feel the validation is redundant. Uncle Bob, who is a vocal advocate of TDD, strongly advices against doing parameter validation. His main argument seems to be "I have a suite of unit tests that makes sure everything works". But I can for the life of it just not see in what way unit tests can prevent our developers from calling these methods with bad parameters in production code. Please, unit testers out there, if you could explain this to me in a rational way with concrete examples, I'd be more than happy to seize this parameter validation!

In PHP i used to do a lot of Singleton object but this pattern has not the same signification in Java that it has in PHP. So i wanted to go for an utility class (a class with static method) but my chief doesn't like this kind of classes and ask me to go for services object. So my guess was that a service object is just a class with a constructor that implement some public methods... Am i right ?

  I am getting the following error during a web service request to a remote web service: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. --- System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure. Is there anyway to ignore this error, and continue. It seems the remote certificate is not signed. • Best way to mock WCF Client proxy

  Are there any ways to mock a WCF client proxy using Rhino mocks framework so I have access to the Channel property? I am trying to unit test Proxy.Close() method but as the proxy is constructed using the abstract base class ClientBast which has the ICommunication interface, my unit test is failing as the internal infrastructure of the class is absent in the mock object. Any good ways with code samples would be greatly appreciated.

• VisualVM over ssh

  I've read Visual VM remotely over ssh but I think I've not fully understood because it was not working for me :-( Please can someone give some example? ssh -D 9696 [email protected] and visualvm.exe -J-Dnetbeans.system_socks_proxy=localhost:9696 -J-Djava.net.useSystemProxies=true starts visualvm, but no processes of external machine are shown (only the local ones like visualvm itself). Moreover sometimes (but not always) I got the message "channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused" in my ssh window. Any help?
