  • Tkinter Gui to read in csv file and generate buttons based on the entries in the first row

    - by Thomas Jensen
I need to write a gui in Tkinter that can choose a csv file, read it in and generate a sequence of buttons based on the names in the first row of the csv file (later the data in the csv file should be used to run a number of simulations). So far I have managed to write a Tkinter gui that will read the csv file, but I am stomped as to how I should proceed: from Tkinter import * import tkFileDialog import csv class Application(Frame): def __init__(self, master = None): Frame.__init__(self,master) self.grid() self.createWidgets() def createWidgets(self): top = self.winfo_toplevel() self.menuBar = Menu(top) top["menu"] = self.menuBar self.subMenu = Menu(self.menuBar) self.menuBar.add_cascade(label = "File", menu = self.subMenu) self.subMenu.add_command( label = "Read Data",command = self.readCSV) def readCSV(self): self.filename = tkFileDialog.askopenfilename() f = open(self.filename,"rb") read = csv.reader(f, delimiter = ",") app = Application() app.master.title("test") app.mainloop() Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Search function fails because it refers to the wrong controller action?

    My Sunspot search function (sunspot_rails gem) works just fine in my index view, but when I duplicate it to my show view my search breaks... views/supplierproducts/show.html.erb <%= form_tag supplierproducts_path, :method => :get, :id => "supplierproducts_search" do %> <p> <%= text_field_tag :search, params[:search], placeholder: "Search by SKU, product name & EAN number..." %> </p> <div id="supplierproducts"><%= render 'supplierproducts' %></div> <% end %> assets/javascripts/application.js $(function () { $('#supplierproducts th a').live('click', function () { $.getScript(this.href); return false; } ); $('#supplierproducts_search input').keyup(function () { $.get($("#supplierproducts_search").attr("action"), $("#supplierproducts_search").serialize(), null, 'script'); return false; }); }); views/supplierproducts/show.js.erb $('#supplierproducts').html('<%= escape_javascript(render("supplierproducts")) %>'); views/supplierproducts/_supplierproducts.hmtl.erb <%= hidden_field_tag :direction, params[:direction] %> <%= hidden_field_tag :sort, params[:sort] %> <table class="table table-bordered"> <thead> <tr> <th><%= sortable "sku", "SKU" %></th> <th><%= sortable "name", "Product name" %></th> <th><%= sortable "stock", "Stock" %></th> <th><%= sortable "price", "Price" %></th> <th><%= sortable "ean", "EAN number" %></th> </tr> </thead> <% for supplierproduct in @supplier.supplierproducts %> <tbody> <tr> <td><%= supplierproduct.sku %></td> <td><%= supplierproduct.name %></td> <td><%= supplierproduct.stock %></td> <td><%= supplierproduct.price %></td> <td><%= supplierproduct.ean %></td> </tr> </tbody> <% end %> </table> controllers/supplierproducts_controller.rb class SupplierproductsController < ApplicationController helper_method :sort_column, :sort_direction def show @supplier = Supplier.find(params[:id]) @search = @supplier.supplierproducts.search do fulltext params[:search] end @supplierproducts = @search.results end end private def sort_column Supplierproduct.column_names.include?(params[:sort]) ? params[:sort] : "name" end def sort_direction %w[asc desc].include?(params[:direction]) ? params[:direction] : "asc" end models/supplierproduct.rb class Supplierproduct < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :ean, :name, :price, :sku, :stock, :supplier_id belongs_to :supplier validates :supplier_id, presence: true searchable do text :ean, :name, :sku end end Visiting show.html.erb works just fine.   • Using Ruby on Rails, can a polymorphic database be created in a few steps (with polymorphic associat

    - by Jian Lin
I thought it could be created in a few steps but it can't yet: rails poly cd poly ruby script/generate scaffold animal name:string obj_type:string obj_id:integer rake:migrate ruby script/generate scaffold human name:string passportNumber:string rake:migrate ruby script/generate scaffold dog name:string registrationNumber:string rake:migrate and now change app/models/animal.rb to: class Animal < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :obj, :polymorphic => true end and run ruby script/server and go to http://localhost:3000 I thought on the server then if I create an Michael, Human, J123456 and then Woofie, Dog, L23456 then the database will have entries in the Dogs table and "Humen" or "Humans" table as well as in the Animals table? But only the Animals table has records, Dogs and "Humen" do not for some reason. Is there some steps missing?

  • Stop Rails from unloading a module in development mode

    - by Gareth
I have a module in my Rails app that lives in /lib module MyModule mattr_accessor :the_variable class << self def setup yield this end end end From my environments/#{RAILS_ENV}.rb file I can then set an environment-specific value for the_variable: MyModule.setup do |my_module_config| my_module_config.the_variable = 42 end This is lovely, and it seems to work (almost) fine. The problem is that in development mode, Rails via ActiveSupport::Dependencies unloads a load of modules, and reloads them in time for the new request. This is usually a great behaviour because it means you don't need to restart your localhost server when you make a code change. However, this also clears out my initialised the_variable variable, and when the next request comes in the initialiser (obviously) isn't run again. The net effect is that subsequent requests end up having MyModule.the_variable set to nil rather than the 42 that I'm looking for. I'm trying to work out how to stop Rails unloading my module at the end of the request, or alternatively find another way to cleanly provide environment specific configuration for my modules. Any ideas? :-/

  • Rails 3: habtm migration, primary key issue

    - by Brian Wigginton
I'm trying to setup a migration file for a habtm relationship, however when I run the migration I'm getting the following error: Primary key is not allowed in a has_and_belongs_to_many join table (parts_vehicles). Here is my migration file (20110111035950_create_parts_vehicles.rb): class CreatePartsVehiclesJoinTable < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :parts_vehicles, :id => false do |t| t.integer :part_id t.integer :vehicle_id end end def self.down drop_table :parts_vehicles end end The documentation example states to use :id => false to disable a primary key from being generated, but I'm still getting the error.

  • disabling transactional fixtures in Rspec has no effect

    - by Dia
Due to a legacy database I'm using, I'm stuck with MySQL using MyISAM, which means my tables don't support transactions. This is causing the tests to fail, since table data generated (I'm using factory_girl for fixtures) by the tests are not reverted for each scenario. I discovered that Rspec exposes the config.use_transactional_fixtures config setting in spec_helper.rb. which is set to true by default. When I set it to false, I don't see any effect on my tests; they still fail due to duplicate records. Isn't that setting supposed to automatically unroll any changes made to the DB? Or am I supposed to do that manually?

  • Sintra app in a gem

  • How can I make the Rails 3 router localize URLs using localization files?

    - by edgerunner
What I'd like to be able to do is: in config/routes.rb resources :posts in config/locale/en.yml en: resources: posts: "posts" new: "new" edit: "edit" in config/locale/tr.yml tr: resources: posts: "yazilar" new: "yeni" edit: "duzenle" and get I18n.locale = :en edit_post_path(3) #=> /posts/3/edit I18n.locale = :tr edit_post_path(3) #=> /yazilar/3/duzenle I'd also like Rails to match any of these routes anytime and pass the associated locale in the params hash such that when I navigate to /yazilar , the request should be routed to the posts#index action with the :tr locale in the params hash. Any simple or complex way of doing that?

  • Improving the join of two wave file?

    - by kaki
I have written a code for joining two wave files. It works fine when i am joining larger segments but as i need to join very small segments the clarity is not good. I have learned that the signal processing technique such a windowed join can be used to improve the joining of file. y[n] = w[n]s[n] Multiply value of signal at sample number n by the value of a windowing function hamming window w[n]= .54 - .46*cos(2*Pi*n)/L 0 I am not understanding how to get the value to signal at sample n and how to implement this?? the code i am using for joining is import wave m=['C:/begpython/S0001_0002.wav', 'C:/begpython/S0001_0001.wav'] i=1 a=m[i] infiles = [a, "C:/begpython/S0001_0002.wav", a] outfile = "C:/begpython/S0001_00367.wav" data= [] data1=[] for infile in infiles: w = wave.open(infile, 'rb') data1=[w.getnframes] data.append( [w.getparams(), w.readframes(w.getnframes())] ) #data1 = [ord(character) for character in data1] #print data1 #data1 = ''.join(chr(character) for character in data1) w.close() output = wave.open(outfile, 'wb') output.setparams(data[0][0]) output.writeframes(data[0][1]) output.writeframes(data[1][1]) output.writeframes(data[2][1]) output.close()

  • how to model a many to many relationship

    - by Maulin
Here is the scenario, Articles have many Comments Users can write many Comments for many Articles The comments table contains both user_id article_id as foreign keys My models are set up like so class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments has_many :articles, :through => :comments class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments has_many :users, :through => :comments class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :users belongs_to :articles My routes.rb has the following code map.resources :articles, :has_many => :comments map.resources :users, :has_many => :comments which produces the following routes new_article_comment edit_article_comment new_user_comment edit_user_comment etc... This is not what I want (atleast not what I think I want), since comments must always be related to users and article, how can I get a route like so new_user_article_comment edit_user_article_comment Then I could just do new_user_article_comment_path([@user, @article]) to create a new comment

  • data parsed to database Nokogiri rails

    - by Charlie Allombert
So I'm just getting started with Nokogiri and Rails I have the following which returns the name of someone. TEST.rb: require 'nokogiri' require 'open-uri' url = "http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1439629/" doc = Nokogiri::HTML(open(url)) puts doc.css("div#wrapper [...too long...]")[0].text Now I created a table in my DB on rails and want to send the returned name to the actor table in the name column! How would I do that ? I can't seem to find atutorial on this... My goal would eventually be to have a rails form where I'd input an IMDB link which would return title and so on... • Dynamically changing validations in Rails

    - by user94154
I have a model with a validation. At runtime, I'd like to change a value of the validation. For example: in the model bid.rb: class Bid ActiveRecord::Base @foo = Foo.find(1) validates_inclusion_of :amt, :in => [email protected], :message => "must be between 1 and #{@foo.bar}" end and in the application_controller (pseudocode): if today == 'wednesday' Foo.update(1, :bar => 10) else Foo.update(1, :bar => 5) end However, this setup isn't working. The "foo" attribute never updates. It seems that the validation code is set only when the dev server starts and then doesn't change.

  • rails contoller defaults to respond with application/xml in production

    - by Dave Paroulek
I have a standard contacts_controller.rb with index action that responds as follows: respond_to do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @contacts } end In development, it works as intended: when I browse to http://localhost:3000/contacts, I get an html response. But, when I start the app using capistrano on a remote ubuntu server and browse to the same url, I get a xml response? If I go to http://remote_host:8000/contacts.html, then I see the html response. If I comment out the format.xml { render :xml => @contacts }, then I see the desired html response. Pretty sure I'm missing something subtle about difference between rails development and production modes? Any ideas about what I'm overlooking? Thanks, - Dave

  • ncurses - expect: sleep executes at wrong time

    - by rahul
I have some ncurses apps that I need to automate to test repeatedly. I am placing the "sleep" command between "send" commands. However, what i see is that all the sleep's are executed in the beginning before the screen loads. expect concatenates the sends (I see that at the screen bottom during sleep) then issues them together. I have tried sending all keys with "send -s" or "send -h". That marginally helps. I've replaced "-f" on line 1 with "-b" - again a tiny difference. Why isn't "sleep" pausing at the right time. Incidentally, my programs have a getc() loop, so i can't use "expect" command. I tried that too. #!/usr/bin/expect -f spawn ruby testsplit.rb #expect set send_human {3 3 5 5 7} set send_slow {10 1} exp_send -s -- "--" exec sleep 3 send -s "+" send -s "=" sleep 1 send -h -- "-" send -h -- "-" sleep 1 send -h -- "v" interact

  • can rails send data to browser chunk by chunk?

    - by Nik
Hello all, I have a very large dataset (100,000) to be display, but any browser I tried that on including chrome 5 dev, it make them choke for dozens of seconds (win7 64bit, 4gb, 256gb ssd, c2duo 2.4ghertz). I did a little experiment by some_controller.rb def show @data = (1..100000).to_a end show.html.erb <% @data.each do |d| % <%= d.to_s % <% end% as simple as that it chokes the browsers. I know browsers were never built for this, so I thought to let the data come in chunk by chunk, I guess 2000 per chunk is reasonable, but I wouldn't want to make 50 requests each time this view is called, any ideas? It doesn't have to be chunk by chunk if it can be sent all at once. Best,

  • Rails is caching when I don't want it to. Why?

    - by ryeguy
Rails is caching the index method of one of my controllers. It's a very simple application and only has like 2 controllers and a handful of actions each. The weird thing is I don't have any caching in my application at all, at least not explicitly. The pages get uncached if I restart passenger. Does rails do some kind of automatic page caching? There are no files in the public directory The page is returning a 200 header I have no caching blocks in my views (I use haml, if that matters) I have no action, controller, or page caching defined The request is hitting rails, verified by the production log I have the following in my production.rb: config.cache_classes = true config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_view.cache_template_loading = true

  • Rails streaming file download

    - by Leonard Teo
I'm trying to implement a file download with Rails. I want to eventually migrate this code to using S3 to serve the file. I've copied the Rails send_file code almost verbatim and I cannot seem to get it to stream a file to the user. What happens is that it sends 'a' file to the user, but the downloaded file itself simply contains the text.inspect of the Proc: # What am I doing wrong here? options = {} options[:length] = File.size(file.path) options[:filename] = File.basename(file.path) send_file_headers! options render :status => 200, :text => Proc.new { |response, output| len = 4096 File.open(file.path, 'rb') do |fh| while buf = fh.read(len) output.write(buf) end end } Ps: I've read in a number of other posts that it's not advisable to send files through the Rails stack, and if possible serve using the web server, or in the case of S3 use the hashed URL it can provide. Yes, we really do want to serve the file through the Rails stack.
