    Hi, I am using Boto library to write scripts for automating our jobs on AWS. My script actually starts a hadoop cluster using cloudera scripts and then does some customization. I am having a problem with retries. Seems like very command in my script fails once couple of days. I started adding retry to all the commands, but then the code is very clumsy and difficult to maintain. what do people do in general. Thank you Bala

  • Can't debug Java Windows Services with jhat, jps, jstack

    I frequently showcase the jhat, jps, and jstack tool set to developers on Linux and Mac. However, a developer recently indicated that these are unusable in Windows if the Java app in question is running as a Windows Service. A Sun-filed bug says something very similar, but was closed due to inactivity. I have tested this out for myself, and indeed it appears true, though I can hardly believe it. Here is the setup: Tomcat or similar running as a Windows service with the "Log On As" == "Local System" A user with Admin privileges logged in to the same Windows machine. Admin opens Windows Task Manager, can see java.exe running Admin opens console, types "jps", gets back a list of processes that does not include Tomcat's java service process. As a brute force attempt, get the PID of tomcat as a service from Windows Task Manager. Type jstack < pid . Get a reply: < pid no such process This appears reproducible under Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, and Windows 7. Java versions 1.5 and 1.6 yield the same outcome. Is there a way from the terminal, even though logged in as Admin, to "sudo up" to get JPS and the other tools to see the java service?

  • SQL Server Reporting Services proxy timeout (ASP.NET)

    Morning, We are using SSRS (2005) and have a ASP.NET frontend using the SSRS WebControl. I've boiled the problem down the time it takes for one particular report to be generated is greater than the timeout on the proxy server. It looks like the way the SSRS web control tries to do things is by performing an HTTP request for the report, however the problem with this is the request can timeout potentially before the report has generated. Looking at the HTTP traffic the response is a 504 (gateway timeout). Is there a way to increase the timeout or change SSRS WebControl to use more robust polling mechanism (which isn't dependant on the timeout of the HTTP request). I could be wrong but I don't think ServerReport.Timeout property would resolve the issue we are seeing? Any thoughts? Philip

    Hi, I have a problem with a list in srss 2005. The list is grouping too much information and I dont know how to un-group it. I made a picture to show it. My question is, are there any modules that would help me with this problem as the only module I have found is ws-discovery for Python?     Is there a way to put the usehttpget true/false option for scriptmethods in web.config? I see that even the scriptmethod annotations are placed inline with the code. Is there a way to move this to config as well? Ive seen usehttpget/post option in web.config for webservices but I need the same thing applicable for scriptservices.

I listed my values below. =SUM(Fields!Total_SR.Value)/MAX(Fields!Total_SR.Value, "SeriesGroup")*0.75 cumulative value: =RunningValue(Fields!Total_SR, Sum, "SeriesGroup") / Sum(Fields!Total_SR, "SeriesGroup") I am able to get the Bar to display.     Im using the standard java ws implementation shipped with e.g. java6 (javax.jws.*). I have the following: import javax.jws.*; @WebService(name="Widget") public interface Widget { @WebMethod public @WebResult String getGadget(@WebParam(name = "id") long id) throw MyOwnException; } Is this possible? Do I have to annotate MyOwnException with e.g the @WebFault annotation? During my initial tests I also noticed that, on the client side, the autogenerated MyOwnException was renamed to MyOwnException_Exception and wrapped the "original" MyOwnException. Or if this is a bad idea, are there any recommended Exceptions to throw from a webservice like this?

  • oData/ADO.NET Data Services using LINQ-to-SQL with a decryption layer

    I have written an application using LINQ-to-SQL that submits a web form into a database. I absact the LINQ-to-SQL away using a Repository pattern. This repository has the basic methods: Get(), Save(), etc. As a development of the project, I needed to encrypt certain fields in the form. This was trivial, as I just added the encryption calls to the Get(), Save() methods in the Repository. Now, I want to put an oData layer over it, to allow RESTful extraction from MS Excel 2010 (when it comes out). I have this working, after a few stumbles on useless error messages, etc. However, obviously, those encrypted fields are still encrypted. My repository pattern would have decrypted these for me. As far as I know, I have to directly bind my oData service to the LINQ-to-SQL context for the schema, etc. to work - unless I enter a whole world of pain (any URLs appreciated). Is there a way I can insert my encryption/decryption layer into the request so decryption is done "on the fly"? I looked at the OnStartProcessingRequest() overload of DataService but this doesn't seem that useful.

  • Android Couchdb - libcouch and IPC Aidl Services

    I am working on a native CouchdDB app with android. Now just this week CouchOne released libcouch, described as "Library files needed to interact with CouchDB on Android": couchone_libcouch@Github It is a basic app that installs CouchDB if the CouchDB service (that comes with CouchDB if it was installed previously) can't be bound to. To be more precise, as I understand it: libcouch estimates CouchDb's presence on the device by trying to bind to a IPC Service from CouchDB and through that service wants communicate with CouchDB. It always attempts to install CouchDB from the market. This is because it never actually is able to bind to the CouchDBService. As I understand the purpose auf AIDL generated service interfaces, the actual service that intends to offer it's IPC to other applications should make use of AIDL. In this case the AIDL has been moved to the application that is trying to bind to the remote service, which is libcouch in this case. Reviewing the commits the AIDL files have just been moved out of that repository to libcouch. For complete linkage, here's the link to the Android CouchDB sources: github.com/couchone/libcouch-android Now, I could be completely wrong in my findings, it could also be lincouch's Manifest that s missing something, but I am really looking forward to get some answers!

    I Have a PerformancePoint Server 2007 Dashboard in a Sharepoint 2007 page. In my Sharepoint page, there's 2 Filters who get passed to the Report, and I need to print this report in the page (in another button, not the SSRS one). So what I need is a javascript method that calls the SSRS print button, which is on a named DIV, inside a WebPartZone that only have one WebPart, a PerformancePoint Dashboard Item (don't know the exact name of the webpart).
