    This is a Canonical Question about Fighting Spam. Also related: How to stop people from using my domain to send spam? There are so many techniques and so much to know about fighting SPAM. What widely used techniques and technologies are available to Administrator, Domain Owners, and End Users to help keep the junk out of our inboxes? We're looking for an answer that covers different tech from various angles. The accepted answer should include a variety of technologies (eg SPF/SenderID, DomainKeys/DKIM, Graylisting, DNS RBLs, Reputation Services, Filtering Software [SpamAssassin, etc]); best practices (eg mail on Port 25 should never be allowed to relay, Port 587 should be used; etc), terminology (eg, Open Relay, Backscatter, MSA/MTA/MUA, Spam/Ham), and possibly other techniques.

  • Smartphone Emulator for checking emails are readable

    Is there an emulator that would enable me to test the appearance of an email as it is being read on a smartphone (without specifying the phone type)? What I would like to be able to do, is to send an email to this emulator, and then scroll down through the email using the emulator. Ive searched online, and any emulators I found are for testing software rather than exploring the visual appearance of email. I'm using Mac OSX - thanks in advance.

I'm trying to send SMS messages from a unix-based machine by sending a mail to [email protected]. This works very fine and messages are received normally. What I want to ask about is, am I able to use this service to send SMS messages to an international number? What about the country code? How will I add it and the format needs ten digits only?   • How to set up hosting on Heroku and email forwarders on a WHM (cPanel)?

    I'm using DNSimple for managing my records, hosting my site at Heroku and I want to use a Linux WHM (cPanel) for managing emails forwarding (DNSimple has that feature, but it's currently not working properly). Hosting works, but I'm having a hard time getting emails to work. Here are my (pseudo-)records: Type Name TTL Points to --------------------------------------------------------- ALIAS | mydomain.com | 3600 | mydomain.herokuapp.com CNAME | www.mydomain.com | 3600 | mydomain.herokuapp.com CNAME | mail.mydomain.com | 600 | <WHM server IP address> MX | mydomain.com | 600 | <WHM server IP address> NS | mydomain.com | 3600 | ns1.dnsimple.com ... | ... | ... | ... NS | mydomain.com | 3600 | ns4.dnsimple.com There are two more records, SOA and TXT, generated by DNSimple, but I don't think those are relevant. When I add an A-record: A | mydomain.com | 3600 | WHM server IP address and change the mail CNAME and MX records to mydomain.com, emails start working, but then the hosting doesn't work anymore. Is this possible to achieve?

  • How long are the default times for greylisting? [on hold]

    In Wikipedia it sais: A mail transfer agent (MTA) using greylisting will "temporarily reject" any email from a sender it does not recognize. If the mail is legitimate the originating server will, after a delay, try again and, if sufficient time has elapsed, the email will be accepted. But how can I find out how long these delays are on my server and on the receiving side? My goal is to speed up email-traffic with partners using greylisting too and speed up the receiving of the first email someone sends to customers on my server.

    I've switched my main domain to point the MX to Google Apps, and my actual domain's server with the lowest MX priority. My idea is to have my primary emails on Google Apps, where the secondary are via Cpanel. Is this even possible? Currently MX records read: 0 Google 4 Google 4 Google 9 Google 9 Google 10 My server I have [email protected] which is added in G. Apps, and [email protected] which is only added in cpanel. Is there anyway to get this to work?

Skydrive only lets you add files up to 50 MB, and while the Dropbox desktop client lets you add really large files, the web interface has a 300 MB limit, so if you were on another PC and wanted to add giant files to your Dropbox, you’d need to split them.     I am trying to workaround CORS restriction on a WebGL application. I have a Web Service which resolves URL and returns images. Since this web service is not CORS enabled, I can't use the returned images as textures. I was planning to: Write a PHP script to handle image requests Image requests would be sent through the query string as a url parameter The PHP Script will: Call the web service with the query string url Fetch the image response (web service returns a content-type:image response) Add the CORS header (Add Access-Control-Allow-Origin) to the response Send the response to the browser I tried to implement this using a variety of techniques including CURL, HTTPResponse, plain var_dump etc. but got stuck at some point in each. So I have 2 questions: Is the approach good enough? Considering the approach is good enough: I made the most progress with CURL. I could get the image header and data with: $ch = curl_init(); $url = $_GET["url"]; curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array('Content-Type:image/jpeg')); //Execute request $response = curl_exec($ch); //get the default response headers $headers = curl_getinfo($ch); //close connection curl_close($ch); But this doesn't actually change set the response content-type to image/jpeg. It dumps the header + response into a new response of content-type text/html and display the header and the image BLOB data in the browser. How do I get it to send the response in the format I want?   • Ws-Security headers using Metro

    I have a web service which implements WS-Security but does not define a policy in the WSDL. I am able to consume this web service successfully using Axis 2 as client. I am trying to consume the same web service using Metro 2 but the wsse:security headers are not going. It works only if the service defines the security policy which is not under my control. I tested this by creating a sample web service and unless I define the policy my metro client never sends the wsse:security headers. Is there anything I am missing using Metro?

  • HTML table headers always visible at top of window when viewing a large table

    I would like to be able to "tweak" an HTML table's presentation to add a single feature: when scrolling down through the page so that the table is on the screen but the header rows are off-screen, I would like the headers to remain visible at the top of the viewing area. This would be conceptually like the "freeze panes" feature in Excel. However, an HTML page might contain several tables in it and I only would want it to happen for the table that is currently in-view, only while it is in-view. Note: I've seen one solution where the table data area is made scrollable while the headers do not scroll. That's not the solution I'm looking for.

    Hi all, I'm trying to modify a header using Middleware in Pylons to make my application RESTful, basically, if the user request "application/json" via GET that is what he get back. The question I have is, the variable headers is basically a long list. Looking something like this: [('Content-Type', 'text/html; charset=utf-8'), ('Pragma', 'no-cache'), ('Cache-Control', 'no-cache'), ('Content-Length','20'), ('Content-Encoding', 'gzip')] Now, I'm looking to just modify the value based on the request - but are these positions fixed? Will 'Content-Type' always be position headers[0][0]? Best Regards, Anders

  • IIS website is sending multiple content-type headers for zip files

    We have a problem with an IIS5 server. When certain users/browsers click to download .zip files, binary gibberish text sometimes renders in the browser window. The desired behavior is for the file to either download or open with the associated zip application. Initially, we suspected that the wrong content-type header was set on the file. The IIS tech confirmed that .zip files were being served by IIS with the mime-type "application/x-zip-compressed". However, an inspection of the HTTP packets using Wireshark reveals that requests for zip files return two Content-Type headers. Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Type: application/x-zip-compressed Any idea why IIS is sending two content-type headers? This doesn't happen for regular HTML or images files. It does happen with ZIP and PDF. Is there a particular place we can ask the IIS tech to look? Or is there a configuration file we can examine?

    I would like to quickly send email from the command line. I realize there are probably a number of different ways to do this. I'm looking for a simple way to do this from a linux terminal (likely a bash shell but anything should do) and an alternative way to do this on Windows. I want to be able to whip up an email right on the command line or have the flexibility to pipe the message into the command line program. How would you go about doing this?     Hey folks I've deployed an ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 and Windows Server 2008. I've read posts on here, and around the web, but can't get the darn client-side caching to work. I'm trying to cache everything in the /Content folder. So far I've select that folder in IIS manager, and set the appropriate HTTP Response Headers (under Common Headers). I've also checked the web.config file in the /Content folder and the values there are being set. All resources in /Content come back with this (from FireBug): Cache-Control no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Pragma no-cache Content-Type image/png Expires -1 Last-Modified Sun, 11 Oct 2009 19:01:40 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Etag "f318d643a54aca1:0" Server Microsoft-IIS/7.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:40:01 GMT Content-Length 620 Note the Cache-Control and Expires values for this static image being requested. The site is currently compiled in Debug (this will change), but surely that wouldn't make a difference? Obviously I'm overlooking something, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hello. I'm looking into a possible feature for my little to-do application... I like the idea that I can send an email to a particular email address, containing a to-do task I need to complete, and this will be read by my web application and be put in the database... So, when I come to log into my application, the to-do task I emailed will be there as a entry in the app. Is this possible? I have a slice with SliceHost (basically a dedicated server) so I have total control on what to install etc. I'm using Python/Django/MySQL for this. Any ideas on what steps to take to make this happen?

    Hi, I'm trying to automatically retrieve some email from my GMail account for further parsing, but I can't get my head around on how to do that. I've searched the internets and it suggested that I use PHP's imap functions, like this: $server = '{imap.gmail.com:993/ssl}'; $connection = imap_open($server, '[email protected]', 'password'); But using that code, I get: Warning: imap_open() [function.imap-open]: Couldn't open stream {imap.gmail.com:993/ssl} Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any server setting that might be preventing me from making a connection to GMail (I'm using a shared service)? Is the address even right? Has anyone ever managed to do something like this? I've found tons of examples on how to send email via GMail, but very little of retrieving. Any help is much appreciated.

What we really want is to distribute email's delivery between 2 or more servers. I was wondering What kind of aproach/solutions MailChimp , Constant Contact uses to provide a great service ? use many servers ? many IPs ? Our spam policy suspends ANY user/customer that gets 10% bounced . We currently rotate our outgoing Mail Ip once deliveries limit per remote host is reached. Is it the best approach/solution ?
