• Have a set a cgi scripts shared by multiple domains

  Goal: Have multiple domains share a set of cgi(perl) scripts Environment: Apache 2.0 on a dedicated Cent OS server. (Apache configuration files generated by cPanel) I have dozens of domains on the dedicated server. The domains set up by cPanel under VirtualHost section. I have almost no knowledge of Apache. Most of what I do is taken care of by cPanel. I would like to put a set of scripts under one directory (perhaps under / or /opt ) and for each of the domains, under the individual cgi-bin, I would like to create a symbolic link to this common directory. This way I am hoping to avoid having to keep a copy of scripts for every domain. Since Apache config files are generated by cPanel, I would not like to manually make changes to those. Beside, I could mess things up. I see that cPanel recommends use of include files rather than changing the httpd.conf Perhaps I need to have the following of symbolic links enabled in the cgi-bin directory and allow the web server user execute the scripts not owned by it. May be I am making things more complicated than they are. I would be glad to use any other means to achieve my goal. • Windows 7 32bit resolution is limited for HDTV monitor

  I have a small Magnavox HDTV that i am using to test a Frankenstein PC build. The goal is to eventually connect to my old rear projection HDTV which supports 1080i via component input. The goal is also not to buy anymore stuff, otherwise i will just buy a smartTV and be done. I have a ATI Radeon HD 3450 with component out adapter YPrPb. The monitor supports 1080p, but over analog component out, should only go upto 1080i. I have had this working with another setup. On this particular setup, i have Windows 7 32bit, with the latest 12.8 catalyst drivers installed. the windows splash screen starts in 480p, then switches to 480i when the login prompt is shown. When try to change the resolution, 720x480 is the maximum value of the slider. I have also tried the "list all modes" and that also maxes out at 720x480. There are two options for this monitor in the devices seciton, Generic PNP monitor, and Generic non-PNP monitor. Neither setting fixes this. Any ideas on how to get 1080i?

• reaching constant video bitrate by using ffmpeg

  We use ffmpeg and a transcoding script for transcoding and want to make some batch files which we can use for transcoding. For example I use a parameter called video_kbit and if I am writing in 30000 it should reach 30 Mbit. Of course if I use 6000 as parameter it should reach 6 MBit as well, so I have one script which reaches every video bitrate I want. As my settings are now, I only reach 18.1 Mbit. Only when I use 15000 as a parameter I am reaching my goal for a constant video bitrate of 15 MBit. If I use 8000 as parameter I get 10.1 MBit as a result. So under 15000, I get a higher bitrate and over 15000, I get a lower bitrate than I want. My presettings are: ffmpeg -threads "4" -i "$2" -f mp4 -c:v libx264 -crf 1 \ -bufsize 30000k -maxrate ${FC_PARAM_video_kbit}k \ -acodec libfaac -ac 2 -ab ${FC_PARAM_audio_kbit}k -ar 44100 \ -pix_fmt yuv420p -vf scale=${FC_PARAM_width}:${FC_PARAM_height} -y "$3" And I am using these parameters: FC_PARAM_video_kbit = 30000 FC_PARAM_audio_kbit = 192 FC_PARAM_width = 1920 FC_PARAM_height = 1080 I have tried using a higher bufsize and using profile:v and level settings, but nothing got me near the constant video bitrate of 30000 Mbit. Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions for a better way to reach my goal?

• Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

  I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better. Please, edit this post and improve it if you find something missing!

• Coldfusion autorestart

  Coldfusion is automatically restarting, a lot. It comes in waves, everything seems fine for a while then the server struggles for a few minutes, restarts a lot then settles down again. I have Fusion Reactor installed, but when CF goes down FR stops logging so it's not really helping. Looking through the archived logs just shows gaps in the logs. These are all the occourances of the phrase "Coldfusion started" today. Looking at the logs for the hour between 9am and 10am (more than 15 restarts in the hour), the CPU never went over 44% usage and the Memory never exceeded 53% usage - in the recorded stats at least. There is no JDBC tracking at the moment, so I'll add that to tracking and see if it's MySQL causing a problem, but can anyone help me narrow down the problem, what would cause Cold Fusion to auto restart, and I'm assuming the auto restart is only happening because Fusion Reactor is installed. It's a Red Hat 5 LAMP stack running Coldfusion 9 and Fusion Reactor 4.5.2

• Log files for group policy application deployment

  I'm looking into using group policy to deploy a couple of applications. I want to have the log of each installation written to a shared folder on a file server for tracking purposes. I can create the log if I pass the appropriate parameters. For example: msiexec /i Package.msi /l*vx c:\Package.log However using group policy for the deployment, you can't pass any parameters to the installation file. Is there anyway to specify the log file location in the process of creating the msi package?

• Maven antrun with sequential ant-contrib fails to run

For this special approach I wanted to use the maven-antrun-plugin, for the sequential iteration and jar packaging through the dirset, we need the library ant-contrib. Poor asset tracking has left me with a couple of un-locatable machines and I would like to know who used them last.   For some reason, ipvsadm does not seem to be equally balancing the connections between my real servers when using the wlc or lc schedulers. One real server gets absolutely hammered with requests while the others receive relatively few connections.   I'm studying Tor and its capability to provide anonymity and bypass censorship, especially when used by people of repressive countries. I'm wondering about one thing. The nodes that are part of the "Onion Network" are limited and they're public. So, in an oppressive regime, couldn't be possible that someone with a blacklist just put a firewall blocking in this way TOR traffic? (and tracking down who's using it?)
