    Encountered this error while trying to deploy a SharePoint 2010 project from Visual Studio 2010:Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.All my other projects in the solution deploy just fine. To fix this, I had to retract the offending project (through Visual Studio) and re-deploy.

    Environment: SQL Server 2005 Express Windows 7 When I installed SQL Server, I followed the instructions at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905868.aspx to set my computer's admin account as the SQL Server admin. However, when I try to access a database on my computer through Visual Studio 2008, I get the following error message: --------------------------- Microsoft Visual Studio --------------------------- The database 'Parkinsons' does not exist or you do not have permission to see it.   • PCI-E riser card prevents server from starting at all

    I need to replace the RAID controller in a server, and the new one is PCI Express while the old one was 64bit PCI. The server has both slots, but the riser card that was installed does not contain the PCI Express part. So I bought a new 4x PCI Express riser card (Delock 89103), but the moment I put it into the slot the server does not start up at all. It does not even get to POST, at most the power LED flashed once but nothing else happens at all. It does not power up the server at all. If I remove the riser card it starts up fine. If I put the riser card into a regular desktop computer it seems to work in general. Is there anything else I have to pay attention to when buying a riser card? My naive assumption would be that any PCI Express riser card should work. Or is my riser card likely to be damaged or out-of-spec and the server is just more picky? How do I get it to work, or how can I at least find a riser card that will work with my server? The server mainboard is a Super Micro PDSMi+.

  • Visual Studio IntelliSense for URL Rewrite

    Visual Studio doesn’t have IntelliSense support for URL Rewrite by default.  This isn’t a show stopper since it doesn’t result in stop errors. However, it’s nice to have full IntelliSense support and to get rid of the warnings for URL Rewrite rules. RuslanY has released a Visual Studio schema update for URL Rewrite 2.0 which is available as a free quick download.  The installation instructions (they are quick and easy) can be found here, which also include the schema for URL Rewrite 1.1.   The install takes effect immediately without restarting Visual Studio. A side question commonly comes up.  Can you get URL Rewrite support for Visual Studio Web Server (aka Cassini).  The answer is no.  To get URL Rewrite support in your development environment, use IIS7.  You can set your Visual Studio projects to use IIS7 though, so you can have full debug, F5 or Ctrl-F5 support for IIS.

    URL Rewrite offers tremendous flexibility for customizing rules to your environment. One area of functionality that is often desired for URL Rewrite is to allow a large list of approved or denied IP addresses and subnet ranges. IIS’s original IP Restrictions is helpful for fully blocking an IP address, but it doesn’t offer the flexibility that URL Rewrite does. An example where URL Rewrite is helpful is where you want to allow only authorized IPs to access staging.yoursite.com, but where staging.yoursite.com is part of the same site as www.yoursite.com. This requires conditional logic for the user’s IP. This lesson covers this unique situation while also introducing Rewrite Maps, server variables, and pairing rules to add more flexibility.   • How can I set the default page for an https request?

    We have a website which has a Virtual Directory containing the secure portion of the website. If users come to http://www.mydomain.com, they should get directed to default.aspx of the main site, but if they go to https://www.mydomain.com, they should go to default.aspx of the virtual directory. The default page for the main site works fine, however I can't figure out how to set the default page for https traffic. Right now going to https://www.mydomain.com simply gives me a Page Not Found error. How can I set this up in IIS on Windows Server 2003?

    I'm developing sites based on .NET platform. I usually deploy these sites on my local IIS, so that I can test them and see their functionality before going live. However, each time I restart windows, it seems that sites take a long time to run for the first time. I know about JIT and I'm also aware of this question, but it doesn't answer my question. Does JIT happens every time you restart windows? Is it related to creation of w3wp.exe process? Why sites are so slow for the first request after each restart?

    I am trying to force all traffic on my web site to use HTTPS, using the URL Rewrite 2.0 module added to IIS 7.5. I got that working and now have a need to exclude a couple of pages from using SSL. So I need a rule to rewrite all URL except those referencing this folder to HTTPS. I've been banging my head against the wall on this and am hoping someone can help. [NC,R] I never worked before with ISAPI neither on URL- rewriting. My doubt is How should I proceed after installation. Should I upload .htaccess or httpd.conf file OR This s/w has ISAPI_Rewrite Manager which gives place to edit httpd.conf, Should I write rules on this. Anyways I had tried all these steps but unfortunately I couldn't find any remedies. Any immediate solution will be appreciable.

  • URL rewriting via forward proxy

    I have an app that runs inside my firewall and talks out to multiple end points via HTTP/HTTPS on a non-standard port e.g. http://endpoint1.domain.com:7171, http://endpoint2.domain.com:7171 What I want to do is route these requests through a forward proxy that then rewrites the URL to something like http://allendpoints.domain.com/endpoint1 (port 80 or 443) then on the other end have a reverse proxy that unwinds what I did on the forward proxy to reach the specific endpoints. The result being that I can route existing app requests through to specific endpoints across the internet without having to change my app software. My questions are: is this even possible? is it a good idea, are their better ways to do this? Can this be done with IIS and Apache as the proxies?

This is accessed through project properties configuration manager menu. I would like to know if this feature is the same in the professional version and the express edition of MVS 2010 in terms of speed optimization. I have the express edition. Also, I would like to know if C programs run with the same speed as in both the professional and express editions.     I was doing some rounding calculations and happened upon a question. How can I express the highest quantity less than 1 for a given floating point type? That is, how I write/represent value x such that x < 1, x + y >= 1 for any y > 0. In fractions this would be x = (q-1)/q where q is the precision of the type. For example, if you are counting in 1/999 increments then x = 998/999. For a given type (float, double, long double), how could one express the value x in code? I also wonder if such a value actually exists for all values of y. That is, as y's exponent gets smaller perhaps the relation doesn't hold anymore. So an answer with some range restriction on y is also acceptable. (The value of x I want still does exist, the relationship may just not properly express it.)

    Hi, I am using Visual Studio 2010 Express on Windows 7. I recently installed GitExtension and it seems to work fine (cloning and branching and what not). I expected it to show up on Visual Studio Express when I opened VS, but it does not. I have searched online and found a few references to the same problem recommending to use VS Extension manager to download the Git plugin for 2010. However, when I tried to use Extension manager on VS to access and install GitExtension plugin nothing related to Git showed up. Any suggestions to make the GitExtension show up on VS 2010 Express on Windows 7? Really appreciate any help.

  • Does DefaultAppPool run with special elevated privilegs on IIS?

    I'm running a piece of code within a web page that queries the IIS metabase using ADSI. The code is as simple as this: DirectoryEntry iisNode = new DirectoryEntry("/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/MyAspWebsite-1-128886021498831845"); foreach (DirectoryEntry de in iisNode.Parent.Children) { System.Console.WriteLine(de.Name); } This works fine when I run the page/site under the DefaultAppPool on IIS7/W2K8. However when I create my own app pool and leave the properties the same as the default app pool, this code fails with the following error: Caught: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException Failed to parse virtual directory: /LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/MyAspWebsite-1-128889542757187500 System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070005): Access is denied. What special privileges does the DefaultAppPool have? I don't see any documented. I need this to work in non default app pools, but without giving the entire worker process elevated privileges. I've also tried using the username and password parameters of the DirectoryEntry constructor, by using the Admin on the machine that IIS7 is running on, but that didn't change anything. I'll also note that this works fine on IIS6 and W2K3. Any help is appreciated.

  • Convert IIS / Tomcat Web Application to a multi-server environment.

    I have an existing web application built in .Net, running on IIS that leverages a java servlet that we have running on Tomcat 5.5. We need to scale the application and I'm confused about what relates to our situation and what we need to do to get the servlet running on multiple servers. Right now I have 4 servers that can each individually process results, it almost seems like all I should have to do is add the ajp13 worker processes from three additional machines to the machine hosting the load balancer worker. But I can't imagine it should be that easy. What do I need to do to distribute the Tomcat load to the extra three machines? Thanks. Update: The current configuration is using a workers2.properties configuration file. From all of the documentation online I have not been able to determine the distinction between the workers.properties and the workers2.properties. Most of the examples that I have found are configuring the workers.properties and revolve around adding workers and registering them in the worker.list element. The workers2.properties does not appears to have a worker.list element and the syntax is different enough between the workers.properties and the workers2.properties that I'm doubtful that I can add that element. If I just add my multiple AJP workers to the workers2.properties file do I need to worry about the apparent lack of a worker.list element? [ajp13:localhost:8009] channel=channel.socket:localhost:8009 group=lb [ajp13:host2.mydomain.local:8009] channel=channel.socket:host2.mydomain.local:8009 group=lb [ajp13:host3.mydomain.local:8009] channel=channel.socket:host3.mydomain.local:8009 group=lb A couple of side notes... One I've noticed that sometime Tomcat doesn't seem to reload my changes and I don't know why. Also, I have no idea why this configuration has a workers2.properties and not a workers.properties. I've been assuming that it's based on version but I haven't seen anything to back up that assumption.

  • Persistent Issues on small business network using Cisco 871W and Catalyst Express 500

    Being the most qualified (read: still not qualified) to solve our persistant network issues, I've turned to serverfault for guidance. I've done some searching, reading related documentation on cisco.com and tried a bit of troubleshooting. Here is the config: 100mb synchronous connection from a business internet provider (tested multiple times at 100meg at the source) Cisco 871W wireless point & router is where the WAN connection starts (this serves all our wireless). The only wired connection in the 871W is the Catalyst switch listed below. Cisco Catalyst Express 500 (24TT) is where all the wired connections terminate. About 20 Windows workstations and servers (AD/Webservers only). Some services in EC2 including mail and other web servers/apps. I've been TOLD cabling internally should be gigabit-ready. Here are the problems: generally slow download rates from the internet to the desktop/laptop frequent "page cannot be displayed" errors in browsers-sometimes 3 or 4 reloads are necessary... often times CSS wont load or other content requiring the browser to connect to a different server. slow speed within the LAN from workstation to workstation copying files. I would expect extremely fast data transfer workstation to workstation / server to workstation in this simple network. Several things I need to admit: I'm not primarily a network guy. Funding is relatively low, I need to be the guy that finds the solution. I understand most of the terminology and most of the technology. Implementation is where I fail due to lack of experience. Getting to the point: I'm wondering whether experienced network admins think that our small network should be sufficiently served with our current hardware if configured properly... or if we should purchase new equipment and start fresh? If starting fresh is the plan, whatever that new equipment may be is a likely different question entirely. If I haven't provided enough information, I will happily do some troubleshooting and update with the results. I have experience using wireshark and some other tools. Please let me know what you think would be most helpful and thanks in advance. EDIT: I forgot to add that the Cisco applicance will not finish loading the SDM Express console. It hangs every time at the "populating modules... DHCP". It eventually crashes and closes. I've rebooted the hardware and this still happens.
