  Hi, I have a table ClassAttendance and I'm using MSSQL 2005 studentID--attendanceDate---------------------------------------status 1004--------2010-03-17--------------------------------------------------0 1005--------2010-03-17--------------------------------------------------1 1006--------2010-03-17--------------------------------------------------0 1007--------2010-03-17--------------------------------------------------0 1004--------2010-03-19--------------------------------------------------0 1005--------2010-03-19--------------------------------------------------1 1006--------2010-03-19--------------------------------------------------0 1007--------2010-03-19--------------------------------------------------0 1004--------2010-03-20--------------------------------------------------1 as you can see studentID is a foreign Key for a table called StudentData and attendedDate has an unknown number of rows. Can i get the output like below by using a query? I need the dates in one month to be columns and the value of the date columns will be values in the status column. The number of date records per studentID is the same its the number of dates in the attendanceDate filed that is unknown. studentID---------2010-03-17--------2010-03-19------2010-03-20 1004-----------------------------0----------------------0--------------------1 etc. This is for a creating a report so I need to do it in a query. Please help if you can.

  Very complex query been trying to construct it for few days with more real success. I'm using SQL-SERVER 2005 Standard What i need is : 5 CampaignVariants from Campaigns whereas 2 are with the largest PPU number set and 3 are random. Next condition is that CampaignDailyBudget and CampaignTotalBudget are below what is set in Campaign ( calculation is number of clicks in Visitors table connected to Campaigns via CampaignVariants on which users click) Next condition CampaignLanguage, CampaignCategory, CampaignRegion and CampaignCountry must be the ones i send to this select with (languageID,categoryID,regionID and countryID). Next condition is that IP address i send to this select statement won't be in IPs list for current Campaign ( i delete inactive for 24 hours IPs ). In other words it gets 5 CampaignVariants for user that enters the site, when i take from user PublisherRegionUID,IP,Language,Country and Region view diagram

  Our application needs a simple scheduling mechanism - we can schedule only one visit per room for the same time interval (but one visit can be using one or more rooms). • Upgraded activerecord-sqlserver-adapter from 2.2.22 to 2.3.8 and now getting an ODBC error

  I have been using MSSQL 2005 with Rails for quite a while now, and decided to bump my gems up on one of my projects and ran into a problem. I moved from 2.2.22 to 2.3.8 (latest as of writing) and all of a sudden I got this: ODBC::Error: S1090 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Invalid string or buffer length I'm using a DSN connection with FreeTDS my database.yml looks like this: adapter: sqlserver mode: ODBC dsn: 'DRIVER=FreeTDS;TDSVER=7.0;SERVER=10.0.0.5;DATABASE=db;Port=1433;UID=user;PWD=pwd;' Now in the mean time I moved back to 2.2.22 and there are no deprecation warnings and everything seems fine but obviously for the sake of being up to date, any ideas what could have changed in the adaptor that could cause this?

  Hello all. Here at work I have Visual Studio 2005 and Office 2007 installed. I'm trying to install the VSTO package to create a templated Word Document project. I installed the VSTO package via this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=8315654b-a5ae-4108-b7fc-186402563f2b#filelist Whenever I create a new Word Template Office Project I receive an error message informing me that Office 2003 is not installed.   I am using Sql Server 2005 This is a part of my database diagram. I want to perform deletion on my database which will start from tblDomain up tp tblSubTopics. Consider that each table has IsDeleted column which has to be marked true if request was made to delete data. But that data shoud remain their physically. Tables which will have IsDeleted Column are tblDomain tblSubject tblTopic tblSubTopic Now I want, if a user marks one domain as deleted then all the refrence field should also get marked as deleted. i.e. 1 domain is related to 5 subjects, those 5 subjects are related to 25 topics, those 25 topics are related to 500 subtopics and so on. Then how should i mark all these fileds as Deleted. ?

• XSD generation from a MS SQL database using schemas

  I'm willing to use NDbUnit on a MS SQL database which uses schemas. I have to generate the XSD schema from the database. Visual Studio has a tool to do that, but Visual Studio 2005 doesn't include the schema information in the generated XSD. Therefore, NDbUnit fails because the generated SQL queries do not match the database. Worse, when I try to use Proteus, the XSD schema doesn't validate against the database, and Proteus fails with a warning telling that data could be lost if this check was skipped. So, my question is: is there any tool that would generate my XSD schema properly and from the database information?

• erroneous Visual C float / double conversion?

  In Visual C++ i wrote the following sample in a C++ program: float f1 = 42.48f; double d1 = 42.48; double d2 = f1; I compiled the program with Visual Studio 2005. In the debugger i see the following values: f1 42.480000 float d1 42.479999999999997 double d2 42.479999542236328 double d1 by my knowledege is OK, but d2 is wrong. The problem occurs as well with /fp=precise as with /fp=strict as with /fp=fast. Whats the problem here? Any hint how to avoid this Problem? This leads to serious numerical problems.

  Hi, I am about to upgrade my pc, and operating system at the same time. I was wondering what version of Windows 7 to get pre-installed, given that I want to do some ASP.NET development using Visual Studio. Specifically : Will all versions of Windows 7 run an IIS server & be suitable for ASP.NET development ? Are all good for running SQL Server etc ? Will Windows 7 have any probs running old versions of Visual Studio (Ie. 2003 & 2005 versions). Are there any other things I need to consider ? I'm probably going for the 32 bit version of Windows 7. • How can I create different DLLs in one project?

  I have a question I don't know if it can be solved. I have one C# project on Visual Studio 2005 and I want to create different DLL names depending on a preprocessor constant. What I have in this moment is the preprocessor constant, two snk files and two assembly's guid. I also create two configurations (Debug and Debug Preprocessor) and they compile perfectly using the snk and guid appropiate. #if PREPROCESSOR_CONSTANT [assembly: AssemblyTitle("MyLibraryConstant")] [assembly: AssemblyProduct("MyLibraryConstant")] #else [assembly: AssemblyTitle("MyLibrary")] [assembly: AssemblyProduct("MyLibrary")] #endif Now, I have to put the two assemblies into the GAC. The first assembly is added without problems but the second isn't. What can I do to create two or more different assemblies from one Visual Studio project? It's possible that I forgot to include a new line on "AssemblyInfo.cs" to change the DLL name depending on the preprocessor constant?

• Query through linked server is very slow

  I have 2 SQL 2005 servers SRV1 and SRV2. SRV2 is the linked server on SRV1. I run a storep proc with params on SRV2 and it is completed immediately. But when I run the same proc through the linked server on SRV1, for example EXEC [SRV1].DB_TEST.dbo.p_sample_proc it takes about 8-10 minutes to complete. After restarting SRV2 the problem is gone. But some time later it returns. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

• Porting a GUI from a pc to a wince device - issue is with the size of the screen

  I have to port a GUI that is currently running on a pc, to a wince device. I have already compiled the code on a win CE platform, the problem is now with the size of the screen of the device which is smaller than some of the dialog boxes of the GUI. I could resize some them in resource view of visual studio 2005. I am unable to proceed further as a lot of screens have bitmaps mapped to them and i cannot just resize the dialog boxes without changing the corresponding bitmaps. What is the best way to proceed- my last resort would be to disable the bitmaps and redraw them at a later stage. is there some method of automatically mapping the size of the screen to all the dialog boxes so that they would automatically resize (alongwith the assocaiated buttons etc)

• Clean way to display/hide a bunch of buttons based on a ComboBox selection

  I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid. Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing. Is there a way to do this? Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons. • ASMX Web Service - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace." message

  I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

• How do I list all non-system stored procedures?

  I want to create a query to list of all user defined stored procedures, excluding the ones that are system stored procedures, considering that: Checking the name like "sp_" doesn't work because there are user stored procedures that start with "sp_". Checking the property is_ms_shipped doesn't work because there are system stored procedures that have that flag = 0, for example: sp_alterdiagram (it is not MSShipped but appears under System Stored Procedures in SQL Server Management Studio). There must be a property, or a flag somewhere since you can see the "System Stored Procedures" in a separate folder in SQL 2005. Does anyone know? • Issues with format in reporting services

  In a report a have a cell that contains a System.Decimal type value. I am using the cells format property to format the value to "D2". This works in VS but not when I run the report on the report server or in my application. If I switch the format string to "0.00" then it works. The confusing part is that it seems that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone have any viable explaination for this? I'm not particularly confortable with saying "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't"! Is this something that might happen when you have a report written in VS2005 but is running using sql server 2008. I ask because I noticed that when we run the report in our application which is using sql server 2005 it works fine but when we run it against the application where the report is VS2005 and the sql server is 2008 that is where the issue occurs.   It has been suggest to me that the use of IF statements in t-SQL batches is detrimental to performance. I'm trying to find some confirmation of this assertion. I'm using SQL Server 2005 and 2008. The assertion is that with the following batch:- IF @parameter = 0 BEGIN SELECT ... something END ELSE BEGIN SELECT ... something else END SQL Server cannot re-use the execution plan generated because the next execution may need a different branch. This implies that SQL Server will eliminate one branch entirely from execution plan on the basis that for the current execution it can already determine which branch is needed. Is this really true? In addition what happens in this case:- IF EXISTS (SELECT ....) BEGIN SELECT ... something END ELSE BEGIN SELECT ... something else END where it's not possible to determine in advance which branch will be executed?

  Hi, Could you please help me,I have an application, in which I do a BULK INSERT the contents of a csv file into a table through stored procedure, the stored Procedure uses BULK INSERT (SQL Server 2005). This Works fine in a standalone system. However when I use the same in a multitier (Web server, Application Server and DB Server) architecture it is throwing 4861 error. Could you please help? The Files are stored in the Web Server. The Translated error message below: " Error – 2147217900:4861: Since it can not be opened for the file \Servername\c$\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\file.csv, It can not be loaded with large capacity. • Manipulating the case of the build macros in Visual Studio: $(TargetDir)

  I've come across a weird problem today in Visual Studio 2005. If I create a new configuration "NewConfiguration" for one of my projects. The output directory referred to by the project in $(TargetDir) is "/path/to/build/area/newconfiguration". Note the loss of capital letters, I'd expect it to be in "/path/to/build/area/NewConfiguration". In another project that I created yesterday, the capital letters are there. Normally this would be a problem, but it's part of a fairly complicated build system where some of it's on unix and we need to worry about case sensitive filename. Does anyone know where the source string for the Visual Studio macros like $(TargetDir) are stored so that I can get the case to be consistent and match what we need for our build system?
