  These days, more and more people watching video online rather than reading. Steve Jobs once said people don’t read anymore. Well, I love books and still read a lot either on books, magazine, iPad, MacbookPro, or whatever the medium shows me letters! But I have to admit, sometimes it’s much easier to understand especially something like How-To by just watching video clips than reading it. And this is why we started our BI Publisher Channel at Youtube last summer. Since then we have uploaded over 10 video clips so far and and now we’re gearing up to add more and more clips. Now, we’re in a middle of finishing up our work for the next 11G 1st patchset release, which should be coming soon and will have a lot of great new features that I can’t wait to talk to you guys about. And of course we’re preparing introduction and How-Top clips. • Oracle Solutions supporting ICAM deployments

  The ICAM architecture has become the predominant security architecture for government organizations.  A growing number of federal, state, and local organizations are in various stages of using Oracle ICAM solutions.  The relevance of ICAM has clearly extended beyond the Federal ICAM mandates to any government program that must enable standards based interoperability like health exchanges and public safety.  The state government endorsed version of ICAM was just released with the NASCIO SICAM Roadmap. • UDF Partition reported full when it is not

  I was using these instructions to setup an external hard disk with udf. I have been able to setup a multi-partition system using those instructions, but I seem to have hit a wall, where the partition is reported as full while writing to the disk. Every other tool available to me reports it as free. Relevant lshw output Here's a screenshot showing the disk: Both the output of df and the file manager (caja) report the disk as free. The most weird part is that on mounting it Windows, Windows can write to the disk easily, and the writes are being read fine back in Ubuntu. However, the used-bytes remains at 34719248K in Ubuntu (It goes higher on Windows, however).

• How do I understand the partition table? (I want to start over.)

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid installed through wubi on my laptop (it came with Windows 7 preinstalled). This was my first foray into Linux, and I'm here to stay. I have no use for Windows, and yet I must manually choose not to boot into it! Should I shrink the Windows partition to something negligible and grow the Linux one using something like gparted or fdisk, and just be content that everything runs? In that case, I need to understand the filesystems. Which is which? Here's the output of $ df -h: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/loop0 17G 11G 4.5G 71% / none 1.8G 300K 1.8G 1% /dev none 1.8G 376K 1.8G 1% /dev/shm none 1.8G 316K 1.8G 1% /var/run none 1.8G 0 1.8G 0% /var/lock none 1.8G 0 1.8G 0% /lib/init/rw /dev/sda3 290G 50G 240G 18% /host I would prefer to start over with a clean install of 10.10 Maverick, but I fear what I may lose. • Accessing ADF Faces components that are read-only from JavaScript

  Almost as a note to myself and to justify the time I spent on analyzing aproblem, a quick note on what to watch out for when working trying to access read-only ADF Faces components from JavaScript.  Those who tried JavaScript in ADF Faces probably know that you need to ensure the ADF Faces component  is represented by a JavaScript object on the client. You do this either implicitly by adding an af:clientListener component (in case you want to listen for a component event) or explicitly by setting the ADF Faces component clientComponent property to true. For the use case I looked at in JDeveloper 11g R1 (11.1.1.7) I needed to make an output text component clickable to call a JavaScript function in response. Though I added the af:clientComponent tag to the component I recognized that it also needed the clientComponent property set to true. Though I remember this as not being required in 11.1.1.6, I like the new behavior as it helps preventing read-only components from firing client side events unless you tell it to do so by setting the clientComponent property to true. Note: As the time of writing, JDeveloper 11.1.1.7 is not publicly available and I put the note in this blog as a reminder in case you ever hit a similar challenge so you know what to do.

  I'm having issue with latest Ubuntu 12.10. Let me make it more clear. I'm having the following partitions in my Laptop. Here ms is for administrative tasks and abc for my friends. When I mount any drive under "abc" user, I cannot access it under my other user "ms". Same as in the case with "ms" user. I found possible reason behind the issue. When I mount any drive under "abc" user, Ubuntu will try to mount it under "/media/abc/volume_name" instead of "/media/volume_name" . • How to start WebLogic Server using default scripts?

  There are a few common issues reported when starting weblogic server using scripts. 1. User is not able to access weblogic console. 2. After a few days/hours weblogic server stops abruptly. 3. When user closes putty, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 4. When user closes windows command prompt, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 5. Weblogic is started using startManagedWebLogic.cmd/startManagedWebLogic.sh. By default, WebLogic Server does not run in background mode, so after you close the window the process finishes as well. In Linux/Unix based platforms, you need to use: nohup ./startManagedWebLogic.sh <Server> <URL> & In Windows platforms, you need to start Managed Servers using Windows Services: How to Install MS Windows Services For FMW 11g WebLogic Domain Admin and Managed Servers (Doc ID 1060058.1) http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13708/winservice.htm There a few more reasons that could cause similar symptoms, like JVM crash, signals sent by the Operating System, and many other reasons.  But the above steps is the first one to start. • End of Public Updates for Java SE 6

  It's important for developers and systems administrators to either make the transition over to Java SE 7 or to work with Oracle to get updates via the Java SE Support program. Have you updated to Java SE 7? Along with great features (Fork/Join, NIO, Project Coin), Java SE 7 is being updated and patched regularly. Java SE 7 has been out for over a year and is ready to download.  The last publicly available release of Oracle JDK 6 is to be released in February, 2013. This means that after 19 February 2013, all new security updates, patches and fixes for Java SE 6 and Java SE 5 will only be available through My Oracle Support and will thus require a commercial license with Oracle.    In the event you are not ready to migrate to Java SE 7, Oracle offers: Java SE Support for continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JDK 6. Additionally, Java SE Advanced and Suite offers superior diagnostics and manageability tools that minimize the costs of deployment, monitoring and maintenance of Java-based IT environments. The Java SE Support Roadmap reflects an updated timeline for the End of Public Updates for JDK 6. The End of Public Updates date has been extended from November 2012 to February 2013, to allow some more time for the transition to JDK 7. Older releases of Java SE 6 will still be available on the Java SE archive, but will require a commercial license with Oracle for any new security updates, patches and fixes.  Th End of Public Updates for Java SE 6 will not impact the usage, availability, patching of Java SE 6 used for Fusion Middleware 11g and 12c.   I have bought an Asus wireless LAN PC Card WL-100GE model, and I am using lubuntu on my system. While I have no cable connection, currently I cannot access the internet and update my laptop. • Wifi interface changes name seemingly at random

  I'm currently having some issues getting a wireless interface to work continuously under an install of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. Some of the issues I'm experiencing include Connection will drop out after some time after it has initially worked. Interface will be a different name after a reboot. For example, wlan0 will become wlan4 when using the ifconfig -a command. Ubuntu will take a long time to boot, looking for network adapters. The purpose of this build is to function as a web kiosk in a library. The computer is supposed to boot up into a web browser, and allow for browsing of the catalog. For some reason this interface does not appear to be working as it should. Are there any explanations for some of these problems I'm having, and perhaps some solutions? The wireless card appears as this after doing an lspci ... Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI In the /etc/network/interfaces file I have the following configuration for the interface. auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wireless-essid UDwireless wireless-mode Managed Thanks in advance for help on this.

• ADF Hands on Training &ndash; Prerequisites for 22nd March 2011

  For those of you coming to the ADF Hands on training on the 22nd March in London, there was a link to the prerequisites.  Unfortunately, in a reshuffle of content on OTN, this page was removed.  So, over the next day or so I’m hoping to the pull together the relevant information into this blog post.  So keep checking back! Firstly, you need to being your laptop with you to do the hands on exercises.  No laptop, no hands on. Recommended 2GB RAM running Microsoft Windows XP SP2, 2003 Server SP2, Vista (32 bit only), Windows 7 or Linux or Mac 2GHz Processor (less will be acceptable but slower) Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Safari 3.0 and higher, Google Chrome 1.0 or higher Winzip or other extracting software Adobe Acrobat reader Flash (if you want to see dynamic graphs in your application) As for software, you will need have installed JDeveloper 11g.  The hands on instructions are based on 11.1.1.2 (or is it 11.1.1.3)! anyway, either of those or 11.1.1.4 would be required. You also need an Oracle database on your machine and access to the HR schema (which should be unlocked).  Don’t expect to have access to a network and VPN to a database. A simple test, unplug your laptop from your corporate network, run up JDev  and select File –> New –> Database connection and make sure you can connect to HR database and see the Emp/Dept etc tables.  If you can do that, you should be good to go. I would strongly recommend ensuring you have this in place before you arrive on Tuesday. Look forward to seeing you there.
