  • Oracle Tutor: Create Accessible Content for the Disabled Community

    - by emily.chorba(at)oracle.com
    For many reasons--legal, business, and ethical--Oracle recognizes the need for its applications, and our customers' and partners' products built with our tools, to be usable by the disabled community. The following features of Tutor Author and Publisher software facilitate the creation of accessible HTML content for the disabled community.TablesThe following formatting guidelines will ensure that Tutor documents containing tables will be accessible once they are converted to HTML.• Determine whether a table is a "data table" or whether you are using a table simply for formatting. If it's a data table, you must use a heading for each column, and you should format this heading row as "table heading" style and select Table > Heading Rows Repeat.• For non data tables, it is not necessary to include a heading row.GraphicsTo create accessible graphics, add a caption to the graphic. In Microsoft Office 2000 and greater, right-click on the graphic and select Format Picture > Web (tab) > Alternative Text or select the graphic then Format > Picture > Web (tab) Alternative Text. Enter the appropriate information in the dialog box.When a document containing a graphic with alternative text is converted to HTML by Tutor, the HTML document will contain the appropriate accessibility information.Javascript elementsThe tabbed format and other javascript elements in the HTML version of the Tutor documents may not be accessible to all users. A link to an accessible/printable version of the document is available in the upper right corner of all Tutor documents.Repetitive dataIf repetitive data such as the distribution section and the ownership section are causing accessibility issues with your Tutor documents, you can insert a bookmark in the appropriate location of the document, and, when the document is converted to HTML, the bookmark will be converted to an A NAME reference (also known as an internal link). With this reference, you can create a link in Header.txt that can be prepended to each Tutor document that allows the user to bypass repetitive sections. Tutor and Oracle ApplicationsRegarding accessibility, please check Oracle's website on accessibility http://www.oracle.com/accessibility/ to find out what version of E-Business Suite is certified to work with screen readers. Oracle Tutor 11.5.6A and greater works with screen readers such as JAWS.There is no certification between Oracle Tutor and Oracle Applications because there are no related dependencies. It doesn't matter which version of the Oracle Applications you are running. Therefore, it is possible to use Oracle Tutor with earlier versions of Oracle Applications.Oracle Business Process Converter and Oracle ApplicationsOracle Business Process Converter (OBPC) converts Visio, XPDL, and Tutor models to Oracle Business Process Architect and Oracle Business Process Management. The OBPC is one of a collection of plugins to Oracle JDeveloper. Please see the VPAT as the same considerations apply.Learn MoreFor more information about Tutor, visit Oracle.Com or the Tutor Blog. - by Larry Wake
    I know there are a lot of Solaris veterans that still haven't experienced the enormousness that is Oracle OpenWorld. Simply put: if you have a chance to go, you should go. You'll learn a lot, and you'll be in one of the greatest cities in the world at the same time. Even better: if you've got something to share, we might be able to get you in for free. Yep, it's that time already: the Call for Papers for this year's OpenWorld (and JavaOne) is open.  But not for long -- you've only got until April 9th to submit your abstract. As a Solaris person, you'll probably be most interested in participating in one of two tracks: SERVER AND STORAGE SYSTEMS: Oracle Solaris ORACLE DEVELOP: Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux Development All you need to give us right now is a title and an abstract. If your session is accepted, we'll let you know by early June, and you can start to plan to join us in San Francisco from September 30 to October 4. (If you're planning on attending in listen-only mode, be aware that the early registration price is available until March 30.) As is true every year, this is your opportunity to meet the leading Oracle hardware and software engineers, including lots of the Oracle Solaris team, and interact with your peers from all over the world. • Websphere/Oracle 11 - much more Heap Usage than with Oracle 10

    - by swalkner
    Hi all, while testing our application with Oracle 11 (previously, we had Oracle 10), we saw that our server uses much more heap space. It seems as it has something to do with T4CConnection; there are 500 objects of T4CConnection allocated. Someone told me, that Oracle 11 is using SoftReferences to keep the connection pool; but we don't need that. Is that correct? Could that be the problem for the increased heap space? If yes - how can we avoid connection pooling? Thanks a lot!!

  • Can I Have Polymorphic Containers With Value Semantics in C++11?

    - by John Dibling
    This is a sequel to a related post which asked the eternal question: Can I have polymorphic containers with value semantics in C++? The question was asked slightly incorrectly. It should have been more like: Can I have STL containers of a base type stored by-value in which the elements exhibit polymorphic behavior? If you are asking the question in terms of C++, the answer is "no." At some point, you will slice objects stored by-value. Now I ask the question again, but strictly in terms of C++11. With the changes to the language and the standard libraries, is it now possible to store polymorphic objects by value in an STL container? I'm well aware of the possibility of storing a smart pointer to the base class in the container -- this is not what I'm looking for, as I'm trying to construct objects on the stack without using new. Consider if you will (from the linked post) as basic C++ example: #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Parent { public: Parent() : parent_mem(1) {} virtual void write() { cout << "Parent: " << parent_mem << endl; } int parent_mem; }; class Child : public Parent { public: Child() : child_mem(2) { parent_mem = 2; } void write() { cout << "Child: " << parent_mem << ", " << child_mem << endl; } int child_mem; }; int main(int, char**) { // I can have a polymorphic container with pointer semantics vector<Parent*> pointerVec; pointerVec.push_back(new Parent()); pointerVec.push_back(new Child()); pointerVec[0]->write(); pointerVec[1]->write(); // Output: // // Parent: 1 // Child: 2, 2 // But I can't do it with value semantics vector<Parent> valueVec; valueVec.push_back(Parent()); valueVec.push_back(Child()); // gets turned into a Parent object :( valueVec[0].write(); valueVec[1].write(); // Output: // // Parent: 1 // Parent: 2 }

  • Galaxy Tab 3 producing continuous LightSensor error in LogCat

    - by Richard Tingle
    I am using a Galaxy Tab 3 as a test device for writing an android app. As such I'm interested in the output of the LogCat which is being filled with these error level messages. The device itself appears to work correctly, apps which rely on the light sensor correctly respond to it and the number in the error itself goes down if the light sensor is obscured. If I wasn't using it to develop apps I wouldn't even be aware of the issue but I believe it is an issue with the device itself not my app: simply plugging the tab 3 into the computer and using Eclipse - ADT to look at the LogCat without any app running leads to these errors being shown. I know I could filter the LogCat to ignore these errors but inconvenience aside; they concern me. A sample of the log cat is below (it generates errors continuously). This is on verbose so it includes some debug level (D/) messages as well as the error level messages (E/). How can I correct the device to no longer generate these errors. 06-11 10:08:45.789: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:45.992: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:46.195: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:46.398: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:46.601: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:46.804: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:47.007: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:47.210: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:47.414: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:47.617: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:47.820: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:48.023: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:48.039: D/dalvikvm(15201): GC_CONCURRENT freed 1947K, 17% free 16973K/20359K, paused 13ms+13ms, total 50ms 06-11 10:08:48.226: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:48.429: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 13 06-11 10:08:48.632: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 13 06-11 10:08:48.632: D/STATUSBAR-NetworkController(472): refreshSignalCluster: data=0 bt=false 06-11 10:08:48.835: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:49.039: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:49.242: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:49.445: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 13 06-11 10:08:49.632: D/STATUSBAR-NetworkController(472): refreshSignalCluster: data=0 bt=false 06-11 10:08:49.648: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 14 06-11 10:08:49.851: E/LightSensor(377): LightSensor::readEvents mPendingEvent.light = 13

  • Need help with testdisk output

    - by dan
    I had (note the past tense) an ubuntu 12.04 system with separate partitions for the base and /home directories. It started acting wonky, so I decided to do a reinstall with 12.10, intending just to do a reinstall to the base partition. After several seconds, I realize that the installer was repartitioning the drive and reinstalling, so I pulled the power cord. I'm now trying to recover as much as I can with testdisk, but it seems that testdisk is finding 100 unique partitions when I run it - they mostly tend to be HFS+ or solaris /home (which I think is just an ext4; I've never had solaris on the machine). I've pasted an abbreviated version of the testdisk output below (first ~100 lines, and then ~100 lines from the middle of the output). Is there a way to combine or recreate the partitions and then data recovery, or some other way maximize what I can recover (ideally as much of the file system as possible)? I really only care about what was in the /home directory - I'd rather not use photorec since I don't have another 2 TB HD lying around to recover to. • How to patch Solaris

    - by Gk.
    I have Solaris 10 and 11 running on my system. I want to update all of them to newest patch. I don't have license or support plan for Solaris yet (the OS is pre-installed on my server). On Solaris 11 I heard I need a support license and a cert to connect to Oracle software repository. What about Solaris 10? Can I fetch patch bundle and install it without connect to Oracle (for both Solaris 10 and 11)? TIA.

  • Challenges and Opportunities to Drive Change in the Healthcare System Explored at America’s Health Insurance Plans Exchange Conference and Institute 2013

    - by elaine blog
    The program theme at the June America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) Exchange Conference and AHIP’s Institute 2013 was Transforming Our Health Care System: Navigating and Succeeding in the New Marketplace.  Topics included care delivery transformation, innovation for a new healthcare eco system, Health Insurance Exchanges, the nexus of consumerism, retail and healthcare, driving value through improved operations and leveraging technology, data and innovation to transform care. Oracle participated as a sponsor of both conferences, signaling the significant investment and activity Oracle continues to make in helping health plans, providers and government agencies become more efficient and more relevant in the healthcare market place. AHIP is a national trade association representing the health insurance industry. AHIP’s members provide health and supplemental benefits to more than 200 million Americans through employer-sponsored coverage, the individual insurance market and public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.   AHIP advocates for public policies that expand access to affordable health care. Health plans are focusing on the Health Insurance Exchanges and the opportunities they offer to provide better access and higher quality healthcare.  With the opportunities come operational challenges to implementation and innovative technology solutions to consider.   At the Exchange Conference, Oracle hosted a breakfast symposium on “Strategies for Success:  Driving Business Transformation in the Growing Health Insurance Exchange Market”. With Health Insurance Exchanges as catalysts for change, attendees learned about how to achieve integration within an Exchange and deploy new business strategies to support health reform initiatives. Discussion covered steps and processes to successfully establish and implement enrollment systems, quote to card activities, program pricing, claims billing, automated claims processing and new customer service tools. Piyush Pushkar, COO of Benefitalign, an Oracle partner that provides solutions to adopt innovative business models for retail, HIX, consumer-centric health plan and benefits administration, spoke on the state of the Exchanges in the U.S. and the activities health plans are engaged in to support individuals entering the healthcare system, including sales automation, member enrollment automation/portals and integration strategies with the Exchanges. The Oracle and Benefitalign partnership allows seamless integration between a health plan enrollment solution with the HIX individual market and allows for the health plan to customize and characterize the offerings available to the HIX that may or may not be available through other channels.  This approach can benefit the health plan through separation of interests, but also because some state-run HIXs require such separation. Janice W. Young, Program Director, Payer IT Strategies, IDC Health Insights, reviewed a survey of health plans on their investment priorities for this last year as well as this year.  She also identified the 2013-2015 strategies of go/get to market with front end and compliance investments; leveraging existing business processes and internal technologies; and establishing best practices.  Of key interest to the audience was a reform era payer solutions platform overview mapping technologies to support the business operations. David Bonham of the Oracle Health Insurance organization moderated the panel and spoke on Oracle’s presence in healthcare and products for payers to help them drive efficiencies and gain a competitive advantage in an ever changing market. Oracle serves healthcare stakeholders with applications such as billing, rating and underwriting, analytics, CRM, enrollment, and products for processing of health insurance claims including pricing and benefits administration, as well as payment of providers through alternative, non-fee for service reimbursement methods. Oracle in Healthcare….Did you know? More than 80 healthcare payers run Oracle applications. • Oracle Outsourced Repair Solution: The “Control Tower” for the Reverse Supply Chain

    - by John Murphy
    By Hannes Sandmeier, Vice President of cMRO and Depot Repair Development Smart businesses are increasing their focus on core competencies and aggressively cutting costs in their supply chains. Outsourcing repairs can enable a business to focus on what they do best and most profitably while delivering top-notch customer service through partners that specialize in reverse logistics and repair. A well managed “virtual service organization” can deliver fast turn times, lower costs and high customer satisfaction. A poorly managed partner network can deliver disaster for your business. Managing a virtual service organization requires accurate, real-time information and collaboration tools that enable smart, informed and immediate corrective action. To meet this need, Oracle has released the Oracle Outsourced Repair Solution to provide the “control tower” for managing outsourced reverse supply chain operations from customer complaint through remediation to partner claim settlement. • Web-Applikationen entwickeln mit Oracle Application Express

    - by britta.wolf
Danach fordern Sie Ihren persönlichen Workspace (Arbeitsbereich) an. Innerhalb weniger Minuten bekommen Sie per Mail die Bestätigung und eine Aufforderung, die Account-Erstellung zu finalisieren. Und dann kann es los gehen...!

Winners are selected based on the uniqueness of their business case, business benefits, level of impact relative to the size of the organization, complexity and magnitude of implementation, and the originality of architecture. The awards were presented during Oracle OpenWorld 2012 and following winners are for the category of ADF & Fusion Development. Micros – an OPN Platinum partner – has been working closely with Oracle product management teams in applying industry best practices in the development of their solutions. Their current application suite for the hospitality industry was built on Oracle Forms and the Oracle database running on MS Windows. The next generation of this suite is being developed and released in modules that are now based on Oracle FMW (including ADF) 11g technologies and Oracle Database 11g all running on Oracle Linux. The primary driver was that of modernization and hence the reason Oracle ADF was selected to provide a rich UI for business processes that could be served up through traditional methods or through mobile devices globally. SOA Suite & ADF allowed for loosely-coupled services that could evolve with the needs of the business. Micros's application innovations includes the use of business application portlets that have been published from ADF Faces Task Flows generated using WebCenter portlet libraries  & Oracle Metadata Services (MDS) with multi-layered customizations using Oracle WebCenter Composer. PCS (Marfin Egnatia Bank of Greece) – PCS Wealth Management is a WM Software Solution, which captures and automates the WM business processes allowing Service Providers to allocate enough time and effort into Customer Service and Investment Strategies, under Advisory or Execution-Only Services. The Product is built upon the latest Web Technologies and ensures Best Practices covering all functional expectations, meeting local regulatory requirements and discovering successful opportunities for the WM Customers' Portfolios. The new unified Wealth Management system offers an unparalleled User Interface taking full advantage of the user friendly ADF Faces Components to a great extent, all serving Private Banking purposes. The application offers a true Account Officer Cockpit with shallow navigation, one-click access to informed decisions and a perfect customer service. ADF Grids and Pivots, the Data Visualization Components, as well as the Calendar and Map Components are cleverly used to help the user eliminate the usage of Excel, Outlook and other systems. PCS's application is unique in the way it leverages the ADF Faces data visualization components to create a truly attractive and insightful dashboard for their application. PCS Wealth Management Demo Qualcomm – Qualcomm, a $17B per year company, designs and sells semiconductor products for wireless telecommunications, mobile and computing markets. In addition, Qualcomm companies provide various hardware and software products to facilitate the design, development and deployment of phones and the applications that run on them. Qualcomm’s challenge has been to not only develop and deploy new business system functions to keep pace with customer demand, but also to provide a customer collaboration capability that is sufficiently robust, easy to use, and flexible to meet emerging and future needs. Qualcomm has taken successful steps in building and deploying the customer engagement platform Ieveraging various Oracle technologies including Fusion Middleware (ADF, SOA, OBIEE) and their proven ERP foundation of EBS and 11g databases. The new platform delivers a more unified and “seamless” business solution with a consistent, modern “look and feel” all based on standard business processes which facilitate efficient collaboration with Qualcomm and its customers. The look and feel leverages ADF in innovative ways and includes hover over navigation, custom pagination components, and skinning. Qualcomm has exposed a services layer that provides significant functionality including order-to-ship, quote-to-order, customer on-boarding and contract validation. Qualcomm's creative designs leverage Oracle's SOA Suite to integrate with Oracle EBS and desperate applications to provide a rich user interface through the use use of Oracle ADF Faces Rich Client Components providing a self-service solution to their customers.
