  • A strange bug, is Mysql asynchronous?

    Hello, I have a strange bug. I launch a PHP Unit test Suite. At the beginning, it executes a big query to initialize the database. If I put a breakpoint just after the execution of the sql, there is no problem and my tests pass. If I don't put any break point, they don't pass and say that the tables don't exist! It works as if the sql query was asynchronous! Do you have an idea of the bug? Or how to debug that? Thanks a lot in advance for your help, I'm lost! Farf

  • Running commands though PHP/Perl scripts as a priviledged user on Linux.

    Background: I am writing a script for a company that will allow users to create FTP accounts through a web interface. In the background, the script must run a bunch of commands: Add the user to the system (useradd) Open and edit various files mail the user via sendmail and a few other things... I'm basically looking for the most secure way of doing this. I've heard of the setuid method, the sudo method, and of course, running httpd as a priviledged user. There will be sanity checks on the data entered of course before any commands are executed (ie. only alphanumeric characters in usernames) What is the method used by the popular scripts out there (webmin for example), as it must be fairly secure?

Simple class for example: class Foo { protected $_bar; public function setBar( $value ) { $this->_bar = $value; } } And here is the question: $obj = new Foo(); var_dump( empty( $obj ) ); // true $obj->setBar( 'foobar' ); var_dump( empty( $obj ) ); // false Is it possible to change class's behaviour with testing it with empty() function so it will returns true when object is not filled with data ? I know about magic function __isset( $name ) but it is called only when we test specific field like: empty( $obj->someField ); but not when test whole object.

  • ctype_alpha but allow spaces(php)

    I was wondering if one can allow spaces in a textfield when checking it with ctype_alpha. Since ctype_alpha only allows alphabetical letters, I don't know how to let the user enter space in the field. I did try using ctype_space but that didn't work. I simply want the user to be able to type only alphabets and they have a choice to include spaces if they "wish." I hope I will not have to use regexp as I am very new to all of this and hope to learn it at a later date.   • MySQL Query Where Column Like Column

    I'm working on a small project that involves grabbing a list of contacts which are stored for each group. Essentially, the database is set up so that each group has a primary and secondary contact stored as, unsurprisingly, Group.Primary and Group.Secondary. The objective is to pull every Primary and Secondary contact for each Group and display them in a sortable table. I have the sortable table all worked out, but I have come across a small problem. Each primary and secondary field can have more than one contact separated by a comma. For instance, if Primary contained 123,256 , it would need to pull both Contacts with IDs 123 and 256. I had intended to use a query formatted like this: SELECT * FROM Group G, Contacts C WHERE G.Primary LIKE %C.ID% OR G.Secondary LIKE %C.ID% so that I could just skip the comma part, but I can't seem to find a working query for this. My question to you is, am I just overlooking something here? Is there a simple query that would let me do this? Or am I better off getting the groups and contacts separately, and combine the two later. I think the former is a little easier to understand when read, which is a plus as this is a shared project, but if that is not possible I will do the latter. This code is simplified, but it gets the point across.

    I'm writing a script that will allow a user to input a string that is a math statement, to then be evaluated. I however have hit a roadblock. I cannot figure out how, using preg_match, to dissallow statements that have variables in them. Using this, $calc = create_function("", "return (" . $string . ");" ); $calc();, allows users to input a string that will be evaluated, but it crashes whenever something like echo 'foo'; is put in place of the variable $string.

Why does it not advance to the next row? if I move the code: $this->listing = $result->fetch_array() or die('could not create object'); foreach ($this->listing as $key => $value) : $info[$key] = stripslashes(html_entity_decode($value)); endforeach; if I move this outside the class, it works exactly as expected outputting a row at a time while looping through the while statement. Is there a way to write this so that I can keep the fetch_array() call in the class and still loop through the records?

    I need help in trying to use curl to post data to a page and retrieve the results after the form has been submitted. I created a simple form: <form name="test" method="post" action="form.php"> <input type="text" name="name" size="40" />e <input type="text" name="comment" size="140" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" /> </form> In addition, I have php code to handle this form in the same page. All it does is echo back the form values. The curl that I have been using is this: $h = curl_init(); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_URL, "path/to/form.php"); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, array( 'name' = 'yes', 'comment' = 'no' )); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $result = curl_exec($h); When I launch the page with the curl code in it, I get the form.php page contents but it doesn't not show the variables that PHP should have echo'd when the form is submitted. would appreciate any help with this. P.S.: LawnGnome on ##php mentioned something about it being possible to do what I want using array('Foo','privateStaticMethod') but I didn't understand what he meant and I didn't press him further as he looked busy.

    Hi, I’m currently trying to develop a method to get a overview of all my different web templates I’ve created and (legally) downloaded over the years. I thought about a displaying them like Wordpress is previewing it’s templates view a small preview windows, displaying the concrete file with styles and everything. How to divide them into rows and columns and create AJAX modal window open on preview and pagination and so on I believe I can manage, but it is the concept itself about iterate over several folders then find all index.htm / index.html pages and displaying them. I’ve not worked very much with directories in PHP and the only references and code stumps I’ve found so far is just to list all the files in a certain directory like, what it contains. I would be really grateful if someone knew about a script, a function, snippet or just could get me a nudge in the right direction to create such a (probably simple) preview function. What would be an appropriate way to do this - for a specific file or part of code only? Surpressing errors with @'s seems like a bad idea since it apparently slows the code down... Thanks!
