I imagine it in the form of two piece software. the first part, some kind of dashboard with list of active IPs, is on the server and awaits for information from remote hosts, the second part will be on clients and it will be reporting that client is working. Do you know something like this, I'm searching for free application that is lightweight and does not require installation.

• Installing softare on Linux

  I'm trying to install the GMP package on Redhat 4, x86_64. The package can only be installed using make, which is not available and should be installed with apt-get/yum, but I don't have either one of them. I tried installing them using rpm, but they each require lots of dependencies themselves, which although finite in amount seem like a VERY tedious job to do. Any help on how I should go about solving this?

• Sharing public key with ssh

  Hi Everyone, Is it possible to somehow setup an ssh server that doesn't require a username,password or cert to login? If that's not possible, if I were to give all customers the same public key, would each connection be encrypted individually? (i.e. user A coudn't decrypt the payload of user B's connection) I wish to provide access to a single program, which will prompt for a username and password. Encryption is essential though, and users must not be able to snoop in on each other Thanks

• Outlook is looking for a smart card

  Dell computer with Windows 7 and Outlook 2003. I recently added a smart card reader to my computer for the National Guard so that I can access some military sites that require a smart card to log in. Now, every time Outlook attempts to download any mail from my civilian AT&T account (a pop e-mail server), I get a message asking me to "Insert a smart card". I've traced it to the send/receive feature (specifically receiving e-mails) but can find no reason that Outlook should be looking for a smart card.

It seems as though they require local administrator privileges to do so, however Ive been instructed not to give them that. They can print normally from their desktop without issue. Is there some special permission to allow citrix to print through to local/network printers short of granting local admin to these users?

• Debug/step into a Linux boot

  Is there a way to watch Linux boot as though it was a program compiled with GCC on a Linux environment using the -g switch so, say, I can step through the entire boot sequence from GRUB onwards, choosing to step through at C source level or assembly when necessary/desirable, by using GDB or a GDB-like tool? I suspect it would require a virtual machine at least, to watch the boot on a host environment. Any elaboration on this topic of observing a boot would be appreciated!

  I've just started using selinux in the last 6 months and am getting to grips with it. However, using sealert on a new CENTOS 6 server, Im not getting the level of detail I was with CENTOS 5. To illustrate: Running sealert -a /var/log/audit/audit.log On CENTOS 5 I get: Summary: SELinux is preventing postdrop (postfix_postdrop_t) "getattr" to /var/log/httpd/error_log (httpd_log_t). Detailed Description: SELinux denied access requested by postdrop. It is not expected that this access is required by postdrop and this access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also possible that the specific version or configuration of the application is causing it to require additional access. Allowing Access: Sometimes labeling problems can cause SELinux denials. You could try to restore the default system file context for /var/log/httpd/error_log, restorecon -v '/var/log/httpd/error_log' If this does not work, there is currently no automatic way to allow this access.   Has anybody ever seen any (no-installs-necessary) solutions to listing any RSS feed on any page of a website? Ideally it would consist of HTML (javascript if necessary) and require no downloads or installs. I am thinking of twitter-style apps that you load up in an iframe or via Javascript and in turn they show your latest tweets on the page - same concept, different content. Just looking for a shiny gadget, not able to write my own solution for this particular project.

  I have two Windows VPS's that talk to each other. 1) I already firewall Remote Desktop to a few IPs. I want to require me to connect instead to the server via VPN (IPSec?) in order to then be able to RD. 2) I want to also only permit access to port 80 on the server if I am VPN'd in to the server (authenticated) 3) If possible, I want to secure communication between other VPS's I have using the same method? • How do you update an Excel file (Data Refresh and update formulas) WITHOUT opening the file?

  I have an Excel file that want to update and save automatically with out having to open it or manually interact with. Manually, I open the file up and hit data refresh which goes and does a SQL query and then hit F9 for the formulas to update and then I just close/save. (I then would mail the file out to people using a perl script or use SAS JMP to run some numbers/charts and also mail them out. Basically I need to script some things which require the XLS file to be updated.)

  I have just set up a VM for Windows Server 2008 R2 and want to install Microsoft CRM 2011 to play around with it. CRM 2011 seems to require Active Directory to be configured and running on the server. I've never gotten involved with Active Directory and I know that I need to install it and get it going for the CRM 2011 to continue. Does anyone have any quick pointers and/or resources for someone with no Active Directory experience, so that I can get CRM 2011 installed?

  I just edited the htaccess file to include: AuthType Basic AuthName "My Protected Area" AuthUserFile /home/path/to/public_html/ Require valid-user I then created a htpasswd file via the htpasswd command. I have enabled the module: LoadModule authn_file_module modules/mod_authn_file.so in the Apache configuration. Now, when I load the page I now get a 500 error and apache log says "configuration error: couldn't check user. No user file?: /"

• Switching to Linux and Keeping Windows With VirtualBox

  Hi guys, I'm currently running a Vista machine, but would like to switch over to Linux, Ubuntu in particular. My question is can I switch over to Ubuntu, keep my Windows partition and use VirtualBox to access the pre-existing Windows partition? Or does VirtualBox require me to create a new install for Guest operating systems? If not, are there any other free alternatives to accomplish this? Thanks

  How costly (CPU or memory wise) is it to have multiple instances of SQL server 2005 instead of only one instance with prefixed databases? A company have three application providers. They each will install one application and they each require two or three databases. Should they all use the same instance or should every provider use it's own named instance? The computers don't have an internet connection (only a small intranet) and have never been updated since first install. Do I need to install SP1a first, then SP2, then SP3, or can I install SP3 immediately? And where do I find the right files, that don't require an internet connection during installation?   How can I make a bootable backup of my Mac's internal hard drive to be restored using Disk Utility, without formatting my external destination drive as HFS+ (it's FAT32, of course)? Time Machine and SuperDuper both require that the volume where the backup is saved be HFS+ formatted. • Forward spam is dangerous for my domain repute?

  I have Postfix with spamassassin and forward the emails (including spam) to gmail.com, my problem is that when I send "legitimate" emails to gmail.com it is marked as spam, I've done everything that the guidelines said like signing with DKIM, setup a SPF for my domains, require authentication for outbound mails, etc. Now I wonder what I'm doing wrong?
