  • quick to setup version control that integrates well with VS2010

    I've got to a point where i want to start using version control for my project. Mainly for reverting to previous versions of files if things go belly up, doing diff comparisons. Nothing major. I want something that integrates well with visual studio, and something thats relatively simple to setup. - prefereably with a link to a tutorial for setting up would be nice. Im just using my pc for this so something like TFS is out of the question.

  • Different versions in manifest on different machines

    Hi guys, Have two machines, both with VS2005 SP1 installed and with the WinSXS showing the same things installed. When one machine builds a particular C++ .dll .vcproj it ends up with <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.MFC' version='8.0.50727.762' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> in its manifest file. But on the other machine it ends up with <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.MFC' version='8.0.50608.0 processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> even though this machine does not have '8.0.50608.0' libraries listed in its WinSXS. The .dll built on this machine with the older version referenced has some problems. I have ensured both machines have the same latest source code and references etc.. What could be causing it to build with the different reference? Thanks! Terry

    Given the potential performance improvements from LTCG (link time code generation, or whole program optimization), which requires the availability of .obj files, does Microsoft make available the .obj files for the various flavors of its MSVCRT releases? One would think this would be a good place for some potential gain. Not sure what they have to lose since the IL that is generated in the .obj files is not documented and processor specific.

I am trying to get input from you guys on which is better approach for the SOA application: Here is the requirement: We want to develop SOA application that helps other vendors to integrate with our system. I also understand for some clients we need to bring new fields to support the integration. Solution Needed: Looking for either one SOA application which can handle all the clients to do the integration with our system. Question Is it possible to do so? Because we might have different contracts possibly bringing new fields coming into the contracts. (or) Develop a another SOA service if the service contract changes and have a front gate SOA service to divert the call to the appropriate SOA services based on the version [Probably mentioned in the SOAP header].     I'm using RHEL 5.3, which is shipped with gcc 4.1.2 and boost 1.33. There're some features I want, that are missing in the boost 1.33. Therefore the thought was to upgrade to fresh boost release 1.43. Is it possible to use concurrently some header-only library(s) from boost 1.43 and the rest from 1.33? For example I want to use unorded_map, which is missing in boost 1.33. Is it possible to use concurrently binary boost libraries from different releases?

    Not really a programming related question but... I'd like very much to experiment with WebGL on my spare time. My current 'spare time' machine is a MacBook running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.xx) and I'm unable to find a new browser supporting this OS. Firefox dropped support, Chrome too, and Safari idem. I read somewhere that this is due to a Quicktime bug that Apple won't fix. Does anyone have more information on this issue ? Does anyone have a clue or track to find a running implementation of WebGL on Mac OS X 10.4 ? Cheers,

    I will make a PXE-server on Ubuntu for the installations of Windows XP and 7. When a computer starts from the network, then it should be display a menu with, for example "installation of XP" and the next item "installation of 7". When I select one of these items, the installation must start. I won't use an image, wds or FOG because the computers aren't the same and there a different departments in the company with a different configuration, programs etc. Neither Windows Server, only an Ubuntu PXE-server How I should start with making that?   • SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP Installer crashes instantly after starting it

    Hi, I'm trying to update my existing SQL server 2008 SP1 installation with SQL Server 2008 R2 (November CTP). I started the setup and chose the upgrade option and after some time the installer told me to reboot. As soon as I confirmed with OK, it crashed. After rebooting I can't even run the setup file anymore. it crashes instantly without an error message. What's the recommended way of troubleshooting this? Thanks, Adrian
