• Selenium RC test - IE gives 403 error on Tomcat app, Tomcat root OK

  I'm new to Selenium RC, having previously used Selenium IDE and only run tests in Firefox. I'm trying to get a basic test to run using Selenium RC through Eclipse; my test works OK in Firefox, and in Safari now that I've killed the pop-up blocker, but IE8 is causing a SeleniumException to be thrown, containing an "XHR ERROR" with a 403 response: com.thoughtworks.selenium.SeleniumException: XHR ERROR: URL = http://localhost:8080/pims Response_Code = 403 Error_Message = Forbidden at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.throwAssertionFailureExceptionOrError(HttpCommandProcessor.java:97) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.doCommand(HttpCommandProcessor.java:91) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.DefaultSelenium.open(DefaultSelenium.java:335) at org.pimslims.seleniumtest.FirstTest.testNew(FirstTest.java:32) ... I can do a similar test on http:/ /localhost:8080 (space between the slashes here because SO thinks I'm spamming) and it's fine - I can make IE open that Tomcat default page and click a link. It's only if I try to open my application at http:/ /localhost:8080/pims that I see this error - and only in IE. I can open that URL in IE by typing it into the address bar. I was convinced that there's some setting in IE that's causing this, but I've tried everything I can think of. http:/ /localhost:8080 is in my Trusted Sites, and I've turned the security for that zone down to the minimum, allowed anything that looks related to popups, etc. If I try adding http:/ /localhost:8080/pims/ to Trusted Sites, IE says it's already there. I've also messed around with proxy settings, to no avail, but may have missed something obvious. I've tried starting the test with *iexplore, *iehta, and *iexploreproxy - all behave the same. Is there something I've missed? So the questions are: What is the proper way of translating AnException into HTTP 404 response? How does customErrors section work when handling exceptions in Application_Error? • Turning off ASP.Net WebForms authentication for one sub-directory

  I have a large enterprise application containing both WebForms and MVC pages. It has existing authentication and authorisation settings that I don't want to change. The WebForms authentication is configured in the web.config: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms blah... blah... blah /> </authentication> <authorization> <deny users="?" /> </authorization> Fairly standard so far. I have a REST service that is part of this big application and I want to use HTTP authentication instead for this one service. So, when a user attempts to get JSON data from the REST service it returns an HTTP 401 status and a WWW-Authenticate header. If they respond with a correctly formed HTTP Authorization response it lets them in. The problem is that WebForms overrides this at a low level - if you return 401 (Unauthorised) it overrides that with a 302 (redirection to login page). That's fine in the browser but useless for a REST service. I want to turn off the authentication setting in the web.config: <location path="rest"> <system.web> <authentication mode="None" /> <authorization><allow users="?" /></authorization> </system.web> </location> The authorisation bit works fine, but when I try to change the authentication I get an exception: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. I'm configuring this at application level though - it's in the root web.config How do I override the authentication so that all of the rest of the site uses WebForms authentication and this one directory uses none? This is similar to another question: 401 response code for json requests with ASP.NET MVC, but I'm not looking for the same solution - I don't want to just remove the WebForms authentication and add new custom code globally, there's far to much risk and work involved. I want to change just the one directory in configuration.

• HTTP crawler in Erlang

  I'm coding on a simple HTTP crawler but I have an issue running the code at the bottom. I'm requesting 50 URLs and get the content of 20+ back. I've generated few files with 150kB size each to test the crawler. So I think the 20+ responses are limited by the bandwidth? BUT: how to tell the Erlang snippet not to quit until the last file is not fetched? • Animated background image in a hidden <div> doesn't load or loads not animated

  Hello, I have spent the whole day trying to make a script which on "submit" hides the form and shows hidden with animated progress bar. The problem is that Internet Explorer doesn't show animated gif images in hidden divs. The images are static. I visited many websites and found a script which uses: document.getElementById(id).style.backgroundImage = 'url(/images/load.gif)'; Finally, my script works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera but... Google Chrome doesn't display the image at all. I see only div text. After many tests I discovered the following: the only way to see the background image in Google Chrome is to include the same image somewhere in the page (outside of hidden div) with 1px dimensions: <img src="/images/load.gif" width="1" heigh="1" /> This did the trick but... after this dirty solution Microsoft Explorer for some reason shows the image as static again. So, my question is: is there any way how to force Gogle Chrome to show the image? Thanks. • Mac OS X Status Bar Application - Hiding it from Cmd/Alt menu?

  I'm trying to whip up a simple little Status Bar Application in Obj-C/Cocoa. So I have done it pragmatically - declaring an NSStatusItem, adding it to the NSStatusBar and then giving it a NSMenu object. A bit like this... NSStatusBar *bar = [NSStatusBar systemStatusBar]; theItem = [bar statusItemWithLength:NSVariableStatusItemLength]; [theItem retain]; [theItem setTitle: NSLocalizedString(@"Tablet",@"")]; [theItem setHighlightMode:YES]; [theItem setMenu:theMenu]; (Example taken from "Status Bar Programming Topics", Apple Documentation) Now ideally, I'd like this application to run and not be accessible from the CMD/ALT window changing "menu" (for lack of a better word), I've seen applications do it before and would like that really. The idea is I just want it to be accessible from every window, whilst not having its own NSMenu on the status bar, and whilst not being able to have it as the active application ( - so its not able to take over the whole Status Bar, and its not able to be seen through CMD/ALT) Additionally, I was wondering if the StatusBarItem supports the ability to drag-n-drop an item onto it? I'm not sure if thats a limitation of the NSStatusBar though. I've read up on deamons and agents, but that seems far too low level/over kill for such a simplistic app! Cheers in advance!

  I have a running ubuntu server 10.04.1. When I tried to login to the server via ssh, I could not. Instead, I got connection refused error. I tried to ping the machine and I got reply! So, the clear reason is that SSH daemon is stopped. After reboot, I was able to login to my server via ssh. • .htaccess non-www to www rule seems to work but the URL isn't changing in the address bar

  On a joomla site, apache, shared hosting, I'm using next .htaccess rule: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] The problem is that the browser's address bar text does not change from example.com to www.example.com. It seems the redirect actually works because all the links on the pages are changed to www. And after clicking on any link from there it always continues to have www added. The problem is the first page (no matter which one) that is loaded using browser's address bar - like example.com or example.com/random-page. Solved. The redirect actually works.

  I have this line in my .emacs file: (tool-bar-mode 0) because I hate the toolbars in my GUI emacs (/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs). But when I start up my other, text-based emacs in the terminal (/opt/local/bin/emacs) it complains about that command: Symbol's function definition is void: tool-bar-mode How can I add an if condition so that it executes the tool-bar-mode command only when I'm in the GUI emacs? • How can I exclude content in my notifications bar from being indexed?

  Of course I want my content to be indexed pretty fast by search engines, however not my notifications bar. My notifications bar contains the last 30 changes to content on the site, and I don't want this to show in my SEO meta. As all the notifications are generic, it often doesn't provide any relevant information. As I said the notifications are generic. If an article named "123" was created, it would create a notification that says "Article "123" was created by xxx at 12:00AM". I'm now wondering if this is a content design problem. As only 1/3 of this information is actually relevant to users (the title, what happened). By SEO meta, and irrelevant notification data being shown, I mean this - Basically what I was wondering, is how I could optimise this, so search engines wouldn't show this generic nonsense.

  A while ago, my search bar went missing in dolphin. If the search toolbar is checked for view/unhide, nothing shows up. I noticed if i check and uncheck the button to hide/unhide it, a small, thin content-less bar slightly pushes the rest of the toolbar up. i tried reconfiguring with dpkg, purging and reinstalling, etc. i left it alone as i thought it would be fixed in an update, but today i upgraded daolphin and it's still gone. any thoughts?

  Working on stored procedure recently which loads records into a data warehouse I found that the existing record was being expired using an update statement followed by an insert to add the new active record. Playing around with the merge statement you can actually expire the current record and insert a new record within one clean statement. This is how the statement works, we do the normal merge statement to insert a record when there is no match, if we match the record we update the existing record by expiring it and deactivating. At the end of the merge statement we use the output statement to output the staging values for the update,  we wrap the whole merge statement within an insert statement and add new rows for the records which we inserted.   On 11.10: I know how to remove the email & u1 entries using blacklist/remove from /usr/share/blablabla_youknowwhere but I see no entries or solutions on how to remove only the status entries, as I dont use any IMs, only mail & u1. I suspect its hardcoded, please let me be wrong. but if it is so, maybe someone enlightened got a diff/patch, although I fear it will lead to dependency hell (compiling wise)

Checking the battery status with the notification is much faster than finding it from the power statistics. I know that the remaining battery time can be set to be shown on the panel but I'm used to Fn+F2.
