  • How can I write to a single xml file from two programs at the same time?

    We recently started working with XML files, after many years of experience with the old INI files. My coworker found some CodeProject sample code that uses System.Xml.XmlDocument.Save. We are getting exceptions when two programs try to write to the same file at the same time. System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Test.xml' because it is being used by another process. This seems obvious in hindsight, but we had not anticipated it because accessing INI files via the Win32 API does not have this limitation. I assume there's some arbitration done by the Win32 calls that work at a higher level than the the XmlDocument.Save method. I'm hoping there are higher level XML routines somewhere in the .Net library that work similarily to the Win32 functions, but don't know where to start looking. Or maybe we can set up our file access permissions to allow multiple programs to write to the same file? Time is short (like almost all SW projects), and if we can't find a solution quickly, we'll have to hold our noses and go back to INI files.

  • Does my basic PHP Socket Server need optimization?

    Like many people, I can do a lot of things with PHP. One problem I do face constantly is that other people can do it much cleaner, much more organized and much more structured. This also results in much faster execution times and much less bugs. I just finished writing a basic PHP Socket Server (the real core), and am asking you if you can tell me what I should do different before I start expanding the core. I'm not asking about improvements such as encrypted data, authentication or multi-threading. I'm more wondering about questions like "should I maybe do it in a more object oriented way (using PHP5)?", or "is the general structure of the way the script works good, or should some things be done different?". Basically, "is this how the core of a socket server should work?" In fact, I think that if I just show you the code here many of you will immediately see room for improvements.   • Symfony 1.4: Deleting a sfGuardUser

    Hi, I'm having some trouble with the following... I have a sfGuardUser table set up normally, and it has a one-to-one relationship with a Profile table, which contains some additional user info. When a user wants to delete themselves from the site, I'd like to retain their info in the Profile table for various purposes BUT delete the sfGuardUser in order to keep that table cleaner/shorter (not just set it to inactive). I was under the impression that I could set the FK in the Profile table to NULL and then delete the sfGuardUser, but it seems the FK-constraint fails. Indeed, it seems I can't delete either and the queries fail: If I try to delete the sfGuardUser, the Profile table will have an invalid FK If I try to delete a Profile, the sfGuardUser will have an invalid FK Other than leaving outdated sfGuardUsers and Profiles in these tables, or having to use a cascaded delete to get rid of both, can anyone tell me if there's any other way around this?     Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

Like what you see, the container does not fit the content except if the squares are positioned in Relative, is there a solution for this?   • is it possible to use a python scrapper in a website?

    I want to scrap a website and use that content in a website of my own. I am just wondering if that can be done with python 2.7, and if so how? If not, do I have to use JavaScript to scrap it? And do you have a good place to learn how to do that or good libraries for it. For those of you wondering, the website I am scrapping is legal, and they allow for this to be done. I have searched all over but apparently nobody tries to implement these scrappers that they write. I can write a web scrapper in python just fine. Say my scrapper scraps a name from a wikipedia page (John Doe for example), how can I use that name that I get in my website? Another update, I have found pjsrape and PhantomJS. I have only found one stack overflow post and the github examples with aren't very intuitive. If anybody has any experience or better ways to do it I would very much appreciate it

  • Serialization java to c#

    Hi, I have manged to serialize an arraylist in java using xstream, send it to my c# application via http and then write that to file (just for now). The serialized data was an arraylist in java. I want to try and re form this arraylist in c# from the xml i have. I have been looking at http://code.google.com/p/xstream-dot-net/ to do this. Does anyone know if that is the right way to go or is there a better way of reforming the serialized data in c#?

    Hi im having a few problems rotating a string, i found that you need graphics.rotate() but when i change the rotation, i cannot even see the string. It appears the pivot point has completely thrown me. Also i saw an example with transform but i decided i did not need this? If my string was a graph label, reading top to bottom and i needed to rotate it 180 degrees so that it read bottom to top, how would i do this? Thanks in advance

  • JList with JScrollPane and prototype cell value wraps element names (replaces with dots instead of s

    I've got a Jlist inside a JScrollPane and I've set a prototype value so that it doesn't have to calculate the width for big lists, but just uses this default width. Now, the problem is that the Jlist is for some reason replacing the end of an element with dots (...) so that a horizontal scrollbar will never be shown. How do I disable with "wrapping"? So that long elements are not being replaced with dots if they are wider than the Jlist's width? I've reproduced the issue in a small example application.     I'm trying to essentially re-implement the UISplitViewController (because it has its limits), but when I create a UIViewController viewController, and then do an "[viewController.view addSubview contentViewController.view]" on it, to add a view that already has a view controller, that content view doesn't seem to get initialised by its view controller. I guess its view controller is getting detached or deallocated, is this the case?

The expand occurs, however the blinking cursor disapears, at least in Firefox! Edited: The textarea is still focused, and i can type on it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to show it again?     I have a MasterViewController displaying Items. Selecting an Item (ItemA), displays images of ItemA in a DetailViewController. The DeatilViewController contains a scrollView, displaying all the images. When tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath is called, the images is added to an UIImageView, that is tagged and added as a subview to a scrollview. But when I go back to the MasterViewController, and selects a ItemB, the ItemA is still displayed, like the iPhone simulator refuses to forget the previous scrollview,containing ItemA images. I have tried [subview removeFromSuperview]; which results in either no scrollview at all, or no effect. Depending on when this method is called. How can I "reset" the scrollview for the next Item?

    I have a Java application which is using a certain Java Runtime Environment. The application uses it's own launcher to startup the java virtual machine. No use of the java.exe, javaw.exe, javaws.exe binaries is being made -- as the application seems to have it's own launcher which is a different executable. This custom launcher is using the rest of the JRE files, such as bin/client/jvm.dll and rt.jar package etc. Now, the problem is that I want to set a boot class path for this custom launcher. The custom launcher does not support the -Xbootclasspath command line parameter, like the default java.exe does. Is there any way for me to set the boot class path now for this java runtime environment? Thanks in advance.   • Cannot open a .tif with color using .Net Image or Bitmap classes

    I am attempting to open .tif files that have color in them (300 dpi, PixelFormat.Format24bppRgb) using the .Net Image and Bitmap classes. I always get an "invalid parameter" error when the tiffs have color (works fine for black and white tiffs). If anyone has source code on how to open a .tif with color in it I'd deeply appreciate it. If I have only the onmousedown event handled, the background color will be changed to blue for sure.   • PHP: How to check for response code?

    Hi, I'm a relative PHP newbie implementing a PayPal IPN listener and all seems to be working fine, except I dont really know how to check for a response code. I've tried something ugly with cURL but it doesn't work at all (I'm not understanding cURL). I've tried this piece of code that I grabbed from somewhere on the net: $fp = fsockopen('ssl://www.sandbox.paypal.com', 443, $errno, $errstr, 30); $response_headers = get_headers($fp); $response_code = (int)substr($headers[0], 9, 3); ... but it's not working (returns $response_code = 0). So right now, I'm debugging my IPN code without checking for a Response 200. Can anyone more experienced advise me on what's the proper/simple way to check this? Thanks
